I never leave reviews, but this place was a total gem. My boyfriend and I were starving on a Saturday night and wanted good food that was worth the price -- this exceeded our expectations. It has that "hole in the wall" vibe, but the dining area has nice ambience and it wasn't overwhelmingly busy. We ordered the beef and broccoli (with rice) and the chicken chow fun. Both were delicious, flavorful, and came in huge portions -- we even had leftovers. Our total was about $35 before tip, which is amazing for the quality. Highly recommend this spot. My last two visits have been positive. On my first visit, I placed a to go order for the beef chow fun and kung pao chicken. I asked for extra vegetables with the kung pao chicken, and they added them without charging extra. Both dishes were really good. On my most recent visit, we dined in and ordered the mixed vegetables, orange chicken, and wonton noodle soup with beef brisket. We've had the wontons before, and they're always good and taste authentic. The beef brisket was tender, the wontons were delicious, and they put plenty of fresh bok choy. It was our first time trying the mixed vegetables and orange chicken. The vegetables were fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The dish also included pieces of Chinese sausage and squid. The orange chicken was sliced very thin, and the batter was extra crispy. We enjoyed it, but it's different from the typical orange chicken you'd find at most Chinese fast food restaurants. The customer service is really good here. At the end of our meal, we were offered a complimentary dessert, which was a sweet soup made with sweet potato and egg. We live in this neighborhood so this is usually our Saturday morning breakfast spot for my family. My son is in love with the steam rice noodle roll (tsang-fun) because it's made fresh here. 2 orders of pork tsang-fun is his main breakfast and then he'll eat a bowl of porridge and then an egg and be done. They package these HK breakfast combos with a hot drink, tsang fun, and porridge for $14.95. I usually get the chicken steak/2 eggs/toast/drink for $13.95. My hubby gets the fish fillet/2 eggs/pineapple bun/drink for $13.95. There's usually leftovers for lunch. We know the waitresses Annie and Kelly that's how often we're here. Sometimes the food is so-so (new cook or regular cook is out) but the tsang fun always seems to be solid. read more

I ordered two breakfast combos at Longten Cafe last week. One was preserved egg and pork porridge with soy sauce fried noodles. The other order was HK-style Sampan porridge with soy sauce fried flat noodles. The breakfast also includes complimentary drinks. I got there before 9 a.m., and there were not many customers. However, I've been waiting almost half an hour to get my breakfast to-go there. I also saw a customer come in to dine in, but the servers did not notice him for a while. Saw a post recently about their salted egg yolk chicken wings so I had to check them out! Love salted egg yolk anything. They did not disappoint! So delish outside and the wings were so moist and tender! Loved it! Steamed rice noodles were excellent as was the beef chow fun! The wok hei was . So good I kept wanting to eat more. Loved the on choy (hollow stem veggies) cooked in a spicy fermented tofu sauce, had a little kick. The scrambled eggs with shrimp were cooked to perfection! Shrimp was not overcooked and eggs were moist and fluffy! Baked sole filet rice was huge and cheesy! So good. Everything we had was excellent! Definitely recommend this place for dinner. Haven't been here for a while. Ordered the seafood and bean curd clay pot, deep fried fish filet with spicy salt, salted egg & minced pork clay pot rice, and black pepper beef udon. The dishes were good, but the minced pork & salted egg clay pot rice wasn't as good. It lacked flavor and didn't tasted like a clay pot rice. The fish filet was very yummy and our favorite dish. There was only 1 server since there weren't that many people, but it was a nice, friendly, and quick service. Some of the items on the menu have changed, but they haven't updated it. The baked pork chop rice comes with a beautifully broiled cheese on top. Crispy and has a tasty sauce. Good ratio of sauce and rice. Standard pork chop pieces. Good service and quick with refills. I came to this restaurant looking for one thing and exactly one dish only, baked pork chop rice. I have been scouring all of san gabriel valley for the best pork chop rice comparable to what I grew up eating. The baked pork chop rice was more fried rice than sauce and pork chop. There wasn't much pork chop to begin with and wasn't the thicker kind. The fried rice at the bottom was pretty tasty but the lack of tomato sauce made it taste dry. There just wasn't a good balance of sauce to pork chop to fried rice. It felt like a 2:1:5 ratio. My must pair with a baked pork chop rice is a lemon iced tea. Their lemon iced tea was way too sweet for my liking. Even after adding more slices of lemon, the sugary-ness was too strong. It did not pair well with the baked pork chop rice. The second item fish fillet is extremely salty, but still the underlying not fresh fish taste exists. * the weather is about triple digits for the long summer well above 90 degrees approaching 100 degrees is a known fact while the unknown fact how long the fish fillet in the restaurant fridge. * the chef knows the spoiled fish needs more salt, which is a condition Longten cafe knowingly sell rotten fish fillet while the standard of restaurant is not to sell unwholesome food. * Restaurant business location is also a factor. Longten Cafe is not the only shop sell the Hong Kong style cafe. Within 20 feet, another Hong Kong cafe with same menu business and if across the street, there is a second one, and many more. The congee and fish fillet are the main dish, which need to individually prepare and both are terrible. The side, for example, vermicelli which is already cooked in bulk does not have any issue. Longten Cafe makes quantity right this time which is visible, while it dives the intangible quality to a terrible level while intentional low quality food set the restaurant poor grade. read more

This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. The lunch special is affordable, but unfortunately the food quality doesn't match the price. When we arrived, there were only two occupied tables, yet our food still took an unusually long time to come out. The food itself was very underwhelming. The beef chow fun had almost no flavor, and the beef was rubbery and overcooked. The sweet and sour fish was unpleasant--the sauce tasted overly sweet with no balance, and the fish itself wasn't enjoyable. The braised pork belly also had an odd smell, was excessively fatty, and the meat tasted off. The service made the experience even worse. Our drinks were never refilled, no one checked on our table, and we had to ask for to-go boxes ourselves. When the bill arrived, I noticed that a 20% gratuity had already been added to the total, and I was simply asked to sign without it being clearly pointed out. Afterward, it appeared I was also being prompted to leave an additional tip, which felt misleading. Always review your bill carefully before paying. To make matters worse, I asked for to-go cups so I could take the tea I had already purchased. I was charged $1 per cup, but this was never disclosed before the charge was added. Regardless of whether a restaurant has its own policy, customers should be informed of additional charges before they're applied. California's menu pricing law (often referred to as the "Honest Pricing Law," which generally requires restaurants to disclose mandatory charges up front) is intended to make pricing transparent to customers. If a gratuity or service charge is automatically added, it should be clearly disclosed so customers understand what they're being charged before paying. Overall, between the bland food, poor service, unexpected charges, and the lack of transparency, I won't be returning. The decor of the restaurant was a bit outdated, but there was plenty of seating and fairly open layout. Service was fast on a weekday. We went for the lunch special available 11am-5pm with entree selections between $11.99-12.99 and drinks $1.99 (hot or cold HK lemon tea, milk tea, coffee milk tea, coffee, and Chinese tea) with 1 refill. Price wise, it's a great deal as the portion was generous; however, the flavor didn't wow me. We tried beef chow fun, beef chow mein, grilled chicken steak, and fried pork chop with spicy salt; all were average or under seasoned. The mushroom sauce for the grilled chicken steak had more butter than mushroom flavor, wouldn't recommend. Longten has lunch specials so you know my dad and I are going to try this place out. And by try, I mean come by at least once every two weeks. It's pretty close by but also the quality of food is pretty good for how inexpensive the lunch specials are. You have to pay for the drinks, but so far I haven't seem a limit on the refill (I typically refill only once though but I've also been able to take the drink togo). I would recommend getting the salt and pepper pork chop - my dad says this is literally better than most places we've gone to. I think they season the batter, which is how its so flavorful. We also typically get the eggplant, which comes in a huge plate and comes with rice. My dad likes their curry but I'm not super excited about it. Its good, but not exciting, if you know what I mean. Service is typically pretty good. They move around pretty quickly and food typically comes out pretty quickly too. I would spend about 50-60 dollars and its enough food to last two people maybe an additional 2 or 3 meals, especially since most dishes come with a dish of white rice. The rice isn't great, like it's kind of dry, but its free so no complaints here. read more

I always get a little surprised when I see a restaurant not rated as A but then I remember that a lot of restaurants up here are B and that's pretty normal. Service was friendly, but one of our dishes never even came out after we finished all of our other dishes (we ate really slow too, since we had to feed kids as well). We ordered the chicken steak as well, but that one never arrived at our table, so we ended up canceling it. The baked dish was okay, but the claypot came in a stainless steel pan/pot with a plate of white rice. It definitely not a claypot, like I was expecting. The rice was just regular white rice too, not cooked in a claypot and transferred out. There was no crunch or anything to it. I was pretty disappointed with this spot today. Started off with a hot milk tea with less sugar and the waitress informed me that there is a $1 surcharge for to go cups?!? ...ok. Came here for dinner with a friend since it was walking distance from the park where we play pickleball although after arriving, we realized they have a free garage to park in so you can definitely drive and not worry about parking. I had this spot bookmarked for their cheung fun (rice noodle rolls), clay pot rice, and milk tea, and we finally got to try it out! (Spoiler: these were indeed what we liked). We came by around 11:30am on a Saturday, and we were able to park pretty easily in their underground parking. There were stairs and an elevator back up, and Longten was on the right when we exited via the stairs. We were seated pretty much right away. Service was pretty quick, and most of what we ordered was right off the lunch menu - our drink orders (HK milk tea and coffee milk tea) were taken right away, and we got our drinks pretty soon after. After we ordered our food, the bbq pork rice noodle came out pretty quickly. The house special pork with preserved vegetable came out a little under 15 min later, and the pork chop with eggplant clay pot came out 10 min after that. Now, for the food/drinks: -Coffee milk tea: this was like a not-too-sweet, not-too-strong milk coffee. It was solid and easy to drink. -HK milk tea: you can definitely taste the tea. It's slightly sweeter than the coffee milk tea, which is good, since the slightly bitter tea flavor comes through. It seems a little watery? -bbq pork rice noodle ($5.95): our favorite! These rice noodles are a bit thicker than what we get at dim sum spots, but it came out warm, soft, and with a nice chew. The bbq pork was nice, and while there's not a ton of pork in it, there were enough of the little bits for each bite. I'd definitely get it again, especially at $5.95. -lunch house special pork with preserved vegetable: not our favorite, but definitely just a personal preference issue. If you like the flavor of preserved vegetables, you'd probably like this. As for the texture of the meat, the skin layer was soft and gelatinous, the fatty layer was super tender but obviously fatty, and the meat was fall-apart-tender, but not necessarily in a juicy way? -lunch pork chop with eggplant clay pot: imagine fried pork chop covered and cooked with a tasty sauce with a mountain of eggplant. The flavor of the pork and sauce was good, and the texture of the meat (though it's mostly bone lol) was tender enough to make me question whether I was taking a bite of fat or meat. We went for the breakfast congee + rice noodle combos and they were great. The food came out hot and fresh. They had a nice variety of congees and rice noodles to choose from. Combos also came with large cups of tea, coffee, milk tea, and milk tea coffee. We went on a weekday morning and there was plenty of parking in the underground lot. Restaurant was clean and service was quick. The only thing stopping us from giving it a 5 star review was that there were no add-on topping options. First time coming to this restaurant. Place was clean and service was good. Food is typical Chinese food, portions are reasonable. Price is great - much better than other Asian restaurants. There was no additional charge for white rice or the dessert (red bean soup) that came with it. Ample parking in the basement. Almost perfect. The sauce is a tiny bit too sour for me. Pork Ribs Clay Pot Rice: 5/5. It takes about 30 min to prepare. Great taste. The sauce is awesome too.
