(Tookout 02/14/26 SA @ 5:30pm): This bistro brought you the taste of Macau to the San Gabriel Valley! It was a long day touring potential investment properties throughout the San Gabriel Valley when I drove by HK Macau Bistro on my way home. Traffic stuck out from the parking lot onto the street, and I noticed a long line of people waiting outside, so I figured this had to be a good place to grab some takeout grub. I enjoyed Chinese food although it wasn't among my top choices when it came to Asian cuisine. But, after nearly an entire day in mostly Chinese communities with Chinese realtors, Chinese food for dinner seemed appropriate. Would it be a gamble to try this Macau bistro during this particular night!? PURCHASE(S) 10pc Curry Fish Balls ($10.99): The idea of fish balls always cracked me up, and yet I loved ordering them! Honestly, I couldn't tell you whether or not there was any actual fish or seafood (maybe imitation?) in these chewy squishy orbs, but the curry had a nice spiciness to it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=QxpHjyagnt8LH5u96j4oUA Steamed Rice (INCLUDED): Fluffy, light and a decent portion size, it did the job as all rice should be included with any ordered dish or entree in my honest opinion. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=PuBbM_UfHhVrT6JbagsEIA Chinese Broccoli w/Chicken ($16.99): A good portion size and mix of fresh Chinese broccoli and bite-size succulent chicken pieces all glazed in a sesame seed soy sauce, this was hot and steaming, but slightly on the oily side, and I wished there were more leafy broccoli bits than stalks. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=bw9BMRdjQ4TdowyLyrrt4g Malacca Seafood Fried Vermicelli ($16.99): A seemingly bottomless large portion size with a bountiful amount of seafood of all kinds as if they completely emptied the ocean, from eel, haddock, octopus, scallops, shrimp, and certainly more! The vermicelli wasn't as fried as I expected (which was a good thing), and the general flavoring was a bit weak, but the amount of supple seafood more than made up for these deficiencies. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=dsH23wMlwABttIma_JkOuA SERVICE After I made my way through the crowd, I was greeted by a young host who handed me a menu, and after about fifteen minutes, I tracked him down to place my order. In all of the hustle and bustle, I ultimately waited for about 15 minutes before everything came out all securely packaged. Everything went well - thank you! PARKING (FREE): Located in an outdoor strip mall, I luckily found a spot on the street. Otherwise, they shared a sizable lot with a few other businesses, and there appeared to be ample spaces along the main drag of Las Tunas Dr. and all surrounding side streets - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A boxy main dining area https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=V2xnz1CsWPkmkIaYxUythw (there may have been more rooms in the back) packed with chairs/tables, some kitschy neon lights artwork on the walls that added some character, and an interesting bus motif and street alley feel. A decent amount of natural lighting came in through the front doors and surrounding windows while electric recessed ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs nor any background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=1ycdvR_i8vCZ1ZzpZtp2yw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Based on the crowds I saw when I first arrived, I safely made it out of HK Macau Bistro with a hefty bag of good food (it just needed more flavoring) that lasted me for a few days at reasonable prices, straightforward service, and possibly an interesting time if I decided to dine-in at least once. The menu had tons of options so you were able to find something for everyone. And, whenever possible I liked to support small local mom-&-pop-like businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, although they accepted credit cards, not mine of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

    Pineapple bun chicken sandwich

I came here for breakfast and got their breakfast combo which came with a pineapple bun chicken steak sandwich and dried scallop congee and oh my gosh it was oh so heavenly. The pineapple bun sandwich was an absolute behemoth of a sandwich. All the fixings of a regular sandwich, thousand island sauce, lettuce, tomato, chicken steak, and instead of regular buns they used a pineapple bun. The pineapple bun was such a good binder for the sandwich ingredients. The crust was nice and flaky and not too sweet. The chicken steak had ample amounts of flavor. The dried scallop congee looked extremely simple but it packed flavor that was insanely deep in depth. The savory-ness of the congee made me want to shovel in more and more in my mouth. For the price of 13$, it was very hard to beat!

Service is good. I was asking my tables if they wanted extra bowls to share and the server overheard, brought it over without me asking. However note that this is still a Chinese establishment. They are used to fast paced so good is for Chinese standards not the 5 star michelin standard. Food came out fast. It's good pricing and huge portions. It is on the greasier side but still very tasty. I started digging in already before I remember to take a picture so it doesn't show full size of food but it still looked full size in pictures

Came for lunch on a Saturday and waited less than 5 mins to get seated. It's a big restaurant but can feel quite tight when it's busy and packed with people. Service is average. The decor is cool with signs and pictures reminding us of HK. The menu is extensive and the portions are huge. Definitely had leftovers. The toast was crispy and tasty. My beef chow fun that I requested with gravy sauce was decent. Note: All credit card transactions require a $25 minimum purchase.

Open super late (2am) and perfect for a midnight or late dinner. Super cozy Hong Kong decor inside that reminds me of when I visited over the summer. A huge variety of traditional food with pictures. Chicken steak with noodles: (8/10) Generous portion with a delicious garlic dipping sauce and neutral spaghetti. two large chicken thighs perfectly seared with a side of veggies. The corn isn't the freshest. It taste like a poor quality canned corn but I can't complain since it was great value. Service was quick and I would definitely come again.

Was looking for some late night food in the area and this came up. Parking was difficult at around 930/10PM on a Wednesday. I ended up finding street parking. I did call ahead, so I just picked up the food. There was a line waiting to be seated and the inside dining area was absolutely packed. The salt and pepper combination with wings and calamari is really good. This is one of those things you should eat right away to get the crisp. The beef chow fun had a lot of flavor with the beef and the noodles it self. The hainan chicken was not my thing. The rice was dry. Had to dump some of the ginger sauce to add a little flavor. I'm guessing this is a good late night spot with most food establishments in the area closing at 9PM.

Breakfast special is a bit weaker than the other Hong Kong cafes in the area. Bolo bao has good crust but the actual bread past lacks fluffiness and flavor. Chicken steak is average but could be more thicker. Milk tea is strong and good. Decor is very cute but the service is slow and takes a long time for food to come out. As a HK girl I think there are better other HK cafes in the area but this one is a good pick if you're also looking for the Macau flare.

Came here on a Saturday night around 9pm. We got a black peppercorn with beef, chicken jipai, eggplant and salted fish, and curry fish balls. We also tried the rice noodle with special mixed sauce. Everything was very delicious. The interior is also very cute with the kitchen area looking like a HK double decker bus! It also had the different HK and Macau subway stations on the wall.

Tasty and quick HK style cafe with some great specialties, HK Macau Bistro doesn't have as large a menu as other places but is still worth a stop. The tomato egg and beef macaroni was popular here and it is a lot tastier with more flavor than the name would describe. The pineapple bun sandwich with chicken was also good but a 50/50 must have on account of how messy it is. The plate comes with plastic gloves and it is very messy. There is a lot of sauce and the grilled chicken piece is slippery but also tasty.

Good place for Hong Kong style food. The place is always packed and food looks good. The udon black pepper was good and the tofu was okay. Service is quick I would like to come back and try the Kaya toast!

This review is more about baked pork chop/chicken steak over rice with red sauce. That was disappointed. No need to get it again. Having said that, I tried the curry beef stew and the curry flavor was very good. However, in general, the food is not very hot. Just lukewarm Other items seem to look good but didn't try. Service also not the best.

Went to HK Macau Bistro for afternoon tea today. It is served daily from 3-5pm with a selected number of items on the menu for $13.99. You can order from their main menu as well for regular price. Drinks will be an additional $1.50 if you order the teas or coffee. Today I ordered the tomato beef and egg macaroni, baked pork chop rice and ovaltine french toast. All of them came out steaming hot. The macaroni was al dente and flavorful from the tomato sauce. The tomatoes were soft but did not disintegrate. The beef was tender and plentiful. The baked pork chop rice had a good amount of sauce and cheese. The pork was super soft as well but wish it had more meat than bones. The french toast had a lot of ovaltine on top and wasn't too sweet. It soaked up the condense milk and was super yummy. They have a lot of Hong Kong decor around the store. The tables had mahjong tiles displayed which added to the vibes. This place does get pretty packed but tea time is an odd hour so it's usually pretty bearable.

*** $25 minimum to use credit cards *** HK Macau Bistro is a Hong Kong style cafe with a part of menu that actually specializes in Macau cuisine. The cafe currently has 2 locations (San Gabriel and Rowland Heights) and a sister restaurant (Tam's Noodle House located just a block away). [Parking]: There's a small parking lot, but the lot was somewhat packed on Sunday at 6 PM. I got lucky as a car was about to leave. [Atmosphere]: Nostalgic interior decors with Hong Kong bus route signs and neon signs. Some tables even have mahjong design using actual tiles. [Menu]: Some of popular dishes per Yelp highlights are Pineapple Bun (C1 - C4 = different variations), French Toast (C11 - C16 = different variations), Hainan Chicken (D1), and Chicken Steak (D9). They also have baked rice & pasta, curry, various house special stir fry dishes, vegetable & tofu, congee, clay pot dishes, dry noodles / noodle soups, fried rice dishes, and drinks like Hong Kong Milk Tea. Free refills on lemon tea (iced or hot). The server actually came and asked whether our table would like a refill. *** T11 Minced Beef with Egg over Rice ($16.99): Apparently this is a Macau style fried rice. It was an interesting dish as it contained diced potato pieces. Flavor was good. S1 Beef Chow Fun ($16.99): Beef was tender and the flavor was on the spot. *** Overall I like food at HK Macau Bistro better than Hong Kong Cafe in Atlantic Times Square. A solid 4-star on food, but bump up on surprisingly good service.

Cinnamon French toast - crunch like it sounds, delicious and really resembles the cereal as well as a churro texture Cowboy burger - what can I say, a burger from the west, big juicy patty, bacon and egg topped with their delicious sauce, perfectly paired. Boiled pork omelette - you'll need a big appetite for this one. Don't be fooled by its size, it's more food than one can probably eat alone. Big flavor, pork was seasoned well and bbq sauce was a nice touch in the eggs. Potatoes were also on point! House French toast - almost as good as the cinnamon French toast, it has the crunch, flavor and doesn't require any syrup, already sweet as it is! Chicken sandwich - juicy, tangy, not spicy for me (got a level 2 of 4, I think) but if you like flavor, it has it all. Knowing what I know now as I write this review, we would return & bring friends here. It's about 78 to 80°F on a Friday a few minutes before 1 pm, surprisingly, it was low key--only a couple tables taken indoors by patrons and a set of guys on the patio. At the door, it said to seat ourselves & I immediately shot to the patio. The set up: once seated, the server comes with menus, you order & it's a sit down meal. Giselle was our friendly & attentive server, young & attentive. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito ($11.50) & I opted for build your own omelette $11.50 for a 3 egg omelette & choice of two items- mushroom and bell peppers accompanied with breakfast potatoes, and chilaquiles ($13.99) to share. The patio seating is fresh, airy, there are tables, outdoor furnitures (sofas) and bright orange umbrellas for shade. My photos captured these elements. The food arrived shortly, although not all at once. I didn't mind it all because the ambiance was so soothing with the sound of birds chirping away and the background of other patrons talking. The only complaint from Hubby was too many pototo chunks in his burrito. My omelette was hot, fresh ingredients, delectable & the potatoes were mixed with 3 colors of bellpeppers. Oh and the chilaquiles? Pretty darn good! The tortilla chips were crispy, perfect amount of green salsa, freshly diced onions & a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Was I famished or was it that good that I devoured everything? What's left was Hubby's potato chunk discards. Giselle returned a few times to ensure our experience is to our satisfaction & another staff also stopped by to check on us. Such a perfect meal & day-- I'm so happy with this visit. But this one deserves a bit more detail for the 3 stars. We came here at my husband's cravings for eggs Benedict for his birthday brunch. It was a Saturday around 1PM. There were crowds, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly busy. I will say they seemed well staffed, which made service feel prompt and welcomed. Everyone in the team appeared friendly. The person who made our lattes also made an effort to clarify our order (lattes with Oatmilk with cream foam - which u know can be confusing. I'm giving up whole milk for the fats and lactose, but a little bit of cream won't hurt). We chose Mari Vees over other nearby spots mainly because of the style and ambiance, which truly delivered... beautiful, modern, and inviting on Yelp. We ordered the iced Spanish latte, iced matcha latte, classic eggs Benedict, and chilaquiles with beef. As soon as the plates landed on our table, before we even had a chance to taste anything, a well-dressed gentleman (who seemed more senior than the rest of the staff) came over and asked how everything was. We felt compelled to give the automatic "everything is good." To be fair, the flavors did hit the spot. The lattes were yummy (and shoutout to the cute aesthetics), the chilaquiles were perfectly savory, and the sauce on the eggs Benedict was rich and creamy. However, the reason this lands at 3 stars is the eggs Benedict itself. The poached eggs were overcooked. Poached eggs should be runny and creamy, not firm. We brought this up to our server, Jeremiah, but he responded that it was "poached hard." I was confused... was that intentional? I checked the menu again (good thing I take pictures), and it simply says "poached eggs." Later, when we were paying, the same gentleman returned, who I inquired and learned goes by the name, Victor. This time, he didn't ask about our experience, but I knew I had to say something. I shared praise along with a lighthearted and humorous question about the overcooked eggs. He admitted they should be runny and said "we should have told them"... BUT WE DID! I debated addressing it in person versus sharing here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it felt like the team wasn't equipped to properly handle feedback. Instead of acknowledging the issue, we felt dismissed and gaslighted. I still gave a 18% tip (our total was $60+) , slight lower than our usual 20%... but I know everyone works hard in there. Overall, it had the potential to be a great experience, but the mishap left a sour note and pretty much ruined our afternoon. Not sure we'll be back.
