Ive heard many good things about here so we finally came for breakfast. All to say, the food did not live up to the expectations. We ordered the porridge and fried donut combo, and while the porridge was good, the donut portion was small and obviously not freshly fried. We also got the steak and egg breakfast combo and the cut of the steak had a big fatty piece that was not really edible. Lastly, we got the pork blood, large intestine and chive noodle soup. While the intestine was nice and tender, the pork blood had zero flavor to it and I had to douse it in chili oil and soy sauce. Came here on a Sunday night around 8:30pm for dinner. So glad they don't close until 10pm! FOOD Ordered 3 dishes: 1) Yang Chow Fried Rice: exceeded my expectations. The cha siu used was moist and sweet; not the dry leftover kinds you'd find in other places. 2) beef chow mein crispy noodles: I requested it to be the crispy noodles. They give you plenty of sauce! Nothing wrong with the dish. 3) Chicken Wings & Calamari Combo: nicely deep fried with plenty of onions and jalapeños. I really liked this dish as it was my first time. They have good Cantonese style breakfast, we had congee, it hit the spot, then we ordered rice flour roll with special house sauce, it is basically sweet sauce and peanut butter, it has a smooth texture from the roll. The place is busy and the waiter is also very busy, we sitted outside and there is only one waiter for the area, so you may need to give extra effort to call the waiter for anything. It was a medium size dish which was a little disappointing but shrinkflation is real and it only gets worse from here. We heard many good reviews about this place so thought we'd give it a try. Unfortunately, many of the orders we wanted to try was not served at the Monterey Park location, only at the Temple City location. They had stopped serving those items some time in 2024 I believe. Despite this, we still made the best of it. The food we ended up ordering was still very delicious, but we were a bit let down as we didn't get to try the items we came here for. Even though it didn't have everything we wanted, I would still come back for the food they do serve as it is very close to our house. We had an extremely satisfying Hong Kong style breakfast at Alice's Kitchen. Everything tasted great, we didn't need to wait too long to be seated on a Saturday morning, food came out relatively quickly, and staff were attentive. Subtotal (without tax and tip yet) for four people was about $80. It was filling and provided us leftovers, too. They had indoor seating and covered patio seating. The interior had some cute decor with pops of color and different beverage items. Inside was small but luckily didn't feel cramped or stuffy. Stellar standouts include the Fried Squid with Spicy Salt, the two Special Steak Breakfasts (boneless Chicken Steak and bone-in Pork Chop), and the Pineapple Bun (served with a pat of butter). The fried foods were deliciously crispy and savory. And the hype regarding their pineapple bun is justified. It's ultra soft and delicate, with a mild sweetness that makes it almost addicting. I could have done without the butter, though. The Pork and Preserved Egg Congee was a comforting dish that didn't taste heavy or overly starchy. The Ovaltine French Toast was a fun sweet snack to try - chocolatey, malty, soft, eggy, and creamy. The Beef Satay soup with egg noodles was good but maybe my least favorite out of what we got (maybe the broth wasn't umami-y enough for me), but I still enjoyed it, especially with those egg noodles. A staple in the SGV area, if you're looking for good asian food as affordable prices this is your place! We came during dinner time and were able to get seating easily. The menu is pretty extensive and they offer rice and soup dishes. A majority of their dishes can be shared family style so keep that in mind when ordering. Went overboard with ordering and got their chicken congee, a noodle dish, their egg and shrimp, and their fried cod. Both the egg and fish dish came with rice, so we definitely had more than enough for two people! The service was wonderful. Delicious,fast, and good! Their breakfast menu has all the essentials of hong kong cafe. One unique noodle type they offer here is the rice tunnel noodle. Jam packets were provided but I put the scrambled egg from the soup on top of the toast instead. We also ordered a peanut butter french toast for the table. We are glad we stopped by and tried this place because they were all delicious! Among those orders, the ribeye sizzler was the winner! Super tender and packed with flavor. The smokey burnt flavor of the chow mein and fried rice are on point. That's the kind of chinese food we are looking for. The fish fillet is also excelllent, not too bland and not too salty, same with the shrimp. The soup has a well balanced taste. The price is very reasonable. Big portions. The place looks like you're in the streets of hongkong with all the decorations. Place is clean enough. Staff are ok. I must say they are not the friendliest. Could have used a little smile in their faces. I guess it's their culture, they look angry, even when they communicate, they sound angry but they're not. I really loved this place that my friend Morrison took me to because they have different flavors and textures of noodles! The thin beef noodle soup with veggies & Pork dumplings and the thicker beef & noodles were quite out of this world super tasty and yummy! Although I stayed loyal to this spot even after the new trendier location opened in Temple City, I actually stopped enjoying Alice's Kitchen after this location was remodeled and took off my favorite items off the menu. Felt like yesterday when this place opened. Whenever I'd pass by, I recall the long lines and the pandemic-era to-go options. Recently, we had a group of seven for dinner around 8pm, and there was plenty of seating inside and out under the tents. The interior had TVB dramas and HK comedies of decades past on the TV, as well as a mix of old and new movie posters lining the walls. As others have written, the menu has changed several times. Offerings such as stir-fried flat rice noodles are no longer available. I ordered two plates of chang fen, or rice noodle rolls, one beef and one pork. Typically breakfast items, I figured they'd be quick. Alas! it took roughly 40 minutes. To be fair, everyone else had to wait a little for their orders, though it seemed the quicker dishes were the chicken plates, steaks with rice, and noodle soups. I also ordered a glass of ribena which held me over. Fortunately, the chang fen here is really tasty, made in the style you'd likely find from street vendors back in Guangzhou with the ridges and a good amount of filling. I must have finished both plates in about three minutes. Someone also ordered a pineapple bun sandwich which looked amazing, and the wait time for that was also lengthy. However, there weren't many chickens, the pot was filled with other vegetables and preserved meat. The chickens seemed to be coated with flour which I didn't enjoy. Shrimp & Egg: A very simple and can't go wrong dish. I'm not sure if it's like this or if the restaurant was busy, the egg wasn't fully cooked (still had running egg liquid); thus the dish tastes bland and unpleasant. Baked Seafood in Cream Sauce: My friend ordered this and she thinks it's just alright. Still comes with a great amount of seafood. Sautéed Taishan Cauliflower: The cauliflower was fresh and nicely cooked. It comes with preserved meat, mushrooms, celery, and carrots. A great vegetable choice.
