Ugh! I wish that I was writing an incredible review for this place cuz I has such high hopes! I was nearby at another restaurant and searching for a late night dessert spot. We waited quite some time for our order but thought that it was likely due to it being later in the night. I took my items to go. I was really looking forward to the custard filled crepe. The custard and the brulee was good but the crepe itself was so thick and did not taste anything like what I anticipated. It tasted more like masa for tamales than it did a thin, delicate crepe. At this point I'm basically a regular here. There's is so many refreshing drinks to choose from but my all-time favorite is the mango latte with agar boba and coconut milk, it's seriously perfection. Smooth, refreshing, not too sweet, and they use real mango pieces which makes such a difference. I treat myself to this almost every other week and it never disappoints. Secondly, you can order from a tablet without having to talk to anyone - great feature for introverts. That said, the staff is friendly and professional when they bring you your food. Thirdly, the food and beverages actually seem to be quite good, and there is a pretty huge menu to choose from. The seating areas appear clean. Lastly, they have a few decks of cards that you can borrow during your stay, should you wish to play some card games with your companions as you wait for (and/or consume) your food/beverages (or conversely, play solitaire by yourself). P.S. There is a parking lot in front. My luck with finding a spot there has not been 100%, but I've been averaging a 2/3 chance of getting one thus far. The perk of this place is that it is open late hours and has some cards to play with. There are some tables but minimal & plain. You order through a kiosk & I ordered a Creme Brulee Crepe w/ fruits & the top (creme brulee part) was good. Fruit added nice tart but lack some more juice/ripeness? So like I'm totally a night owl and places that open late always win my patronage. First it was Sun Nong Dan and now Cha Express... These two locations have drawn me away from fast food at night. First just the owner alone makes me really love this place. Steven has a great personality, cares whether you love his drinks and food.. this is already my 2nd visit in a week and because of its popularity it's almost impossible to get the crepe late a night. Personally I come here now for the Champion Milk Tea which has red bean, boba, pudding, and grass jelly along with Yunnan tea makes a nice strong milk tea that I now crave for. Also tried the Portuguese egg tarts which are made pippin' hot made to order with a crispy crust and great filling. The location is super chill with a few outlets should you feel to make camp here with your laptop and live here for a night. Yes it's got a few of those outlet hogs that think they live here lol. Just tried this place for the first time recently. The menu of drinks, desserts, and food is just ridiculously extensive. Pair that with being open until 2am every day except Monday and Tuesday and we have a late night wonderland. The owner Steven was running the place both times we came. He's very friendly, helpful, and super busy! DRINKS: Milk teas, fruit teas, fresh milks, slushes and more with a plethora of toppings options and the ability to customize everything. I love the mango pomelo sago slush and the strawberry milk so far. The milk was perfection with so much chunky strawberry sauce. I've found that at 50% sweetness, the drinks are still rather sweet. My husband loves the champion milk tea that comes packed with grass jelly, boba, and egg pudding. FOOD: From baked mussels to croissant sandwiches to Taiwanese popcorn chicken to egg waffles and crepes. It's going to take me quite some time to eat through this menu. So far had the egg tart egg waffles (every bubble has a piece of egg custard inside!) and the Portuguese egg tarts that take 20 minutes baked fresh piping hot and flakey. Highly recommended! Quite possibly the worst boba spot and experience Ive been to and I feel so guilty for writing this review but it needs to be written. We strictly came here because it opens til 1am and so we got here at 11pm and it was packed, but not to the point where we would have expected to wait an entire 2 whole hours for 2 drinks. There needs to be a wait time displayed because if we knew that information ahead of time we would have left asap. What we should have done was cancel our order after suspiciously waiting 30-40 minutes in the first place, but we waited to the point where there was no backing out for how long we were already just sitting there for. We ordered the Taro Milk tea and plain green milk tea with one crepe all off their top 10 menu. After an hour of waiting we noticed a ton of the groups ahead of us still did not get their drinks. This entire shop setup is poor. There is one person making drinks and one person in the back making food. They have a tiny ass front fridge at the counter that looks like it holds nothing and they need to hire more staff or pre-make more tea canisters, creams, etc so they're not running out of everything so fast because drinks are not being made since they have to make tea, refill, wash dishes, etc. There is absolutely no sense of urgency or sympathy for customers. It appears as if they run the shop like this every night which is insane and ridiculous that people still come here because the drinks are not that good. When we finally got our two drinks after 2 hours, the mom and dad left the shop and there was still a hefty group of people waiting while the two males just continues to try to service. Overall the drinks are just confusing and do not taste good. The tea is tasteless, watery, and they just pour a whole can of half and half in the cup. It was to the point where the drinks are not made with care, they start just putting the sugar straight in the cup the tea and ice and then serving it. The crepe which also took 2 hours for them to make, not only came out cold but was ok. It wasn't too sweet but at 1am we were so so so over it. Nothing was worth this experience, like I do feel bad to an extent but it does not look like they want to improve. This place is AMAZING! The food is really, really good and the prices are just as great. I got the baked mussels with cheese perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and so satisfying. Then I tried the matcha creme brulee crepe, and it was on another level They even let you add as many fruits as you like for free! The worker here is incredibly nice and really tries his best to satisfy every customer, even though he's working alone. My boyfriend and I needed a pick-me-up after working late, and we are so glad to find Cha Express open late at night - till 1 am on most nights for workholics like us. My tired brain must have forgotten that I live in the 626 area because my Aloe Lemon Tea 满杯香柠 totally surprised me on how great it was and served me a fresh dose of energy. I also got a Hong Kong Egg Waffle because late night calories don't count (right), and it was great! The waffle is made fresh to order and you can even smell the sweetness in the air which makes the cafe soooo cozy. Ny boyfriend got their Jasmine Green Tea 茉莉绿茶 and said it was made very well, too. Found this place randomly on Yelp and took a shot on bringing a first date here as I know the parking was easy to find and the pictures looked tasty. Relatively empty restaurant on a Tuesday evening. The amount of items available was a bit overwhelming as there were too many variations and it was hard to navigate the system due to the poorly designed UI. I found what I was looking for - the Crème Brûlée Crepe and found the toppings I wanted (all of them essentially) which was Mango, Strawberry, Banana, Custard, and Nutella, no extra cost! It was VERY difficult for me to find a non-caffeinated drink that wasn't just milk but I ended up going with the Pomelo Mango Sago. The Crème Brûlée was tasty but hard to share, also messy to eat if you plan on talking a lot. However, the taste is everything you would imagine mixed together in a well balanced manner. The downside is that this thing is PACKED with calories. I didn't have dinner before this crepe and I ended up skipping dinner afterwards. Pomelo Mango Sago was interesting to say the least. Once you're there a few times, you'll see how it's arranged. The staff is typical only 1 person, so please be don't expect to be in and out very quickly. Drinks come out in the typically expected time frame, but any food orders do take a bit longer. The HK Lemon Tea and HK Milk Tea are the staples as they're priced absurdly cheap at $3 and taste fantastic. The popcorn chicken is fried fresh and crispy. Tons of flavor and a decent portion size. The black sesame egg waffle is good, flavor wise, but not as crisp as I would like it. I may ask for it to be cook a bit longer next time and hope is crisps up a bit more. The shop is usually not too busy, so finding seating for a quiet place to work is easy. Its self-order but the man was VERY nice and made everything very quickly. Came here over the weekend with some friends. We came on a Saturday night. The space wasn't too crowded when we arrived, but got busy quickly after we placed our drink order. We ordered the Fresh Orange Green Tea and Yakult Pineapple. Drinks came out a little slow, which was to be expected since only one person was working the register, making drinks & food orders, and providing customer service. We didn't mind the wait since we were hanging out in the shop to catch up with each other. Our drinks were good. I ordered the Orange Green Tea (regular sweet, light ice) and it was delicious. This is a review of their Milk Tea - I wasn't interested in their desserts at the time of visit. Here's a tip: If you see a milk tea shop with Yunnan (云南) written anywhere on their menu, order that drink. Tea leaves from Yunnan province never disappoints. Being the case, I had to order their Yunnan Black Milk Tea. I ordered it at 75% sweetness, which was perfect. They also honor the less ice request. The tea taste is strong and distinct - but not to a point where it overpowers the sweetness. I definitely recommend anyone coming here to order this drink. The basic black milk tea at any other shop can't compare to this Yunnan black milk tea. Their boba pearls are soft and chewy, but aren't 100% flavorful. There is definitely more flavor to be sought after, but they were pretty decent otherwise. One thing I wished they did better on was to include more boba pearls. I ran out of boba pearls a little over half my drink, which left the latter portion just drinking a milk tea. This place came out to almost $15 for 2 drinks, which is on the expensive side. If their drinks were cheaper with the same quality and a little more boba pearls, it would make this place worth coming back to. For the time being though, the price is a little hard to justify in a market so saturated. Service was okay - it took a few minutes to make our drink when we were the only ones, but then again, I saw the employee boiling boba pearls in front of my eyes. She also wasn't the most attentive, but you get used to it after dining in Chinese food and drink places in SGV. read more
