Came here for a family dinner a few months ago; had great attentive service (it wasn't too busy in the restaurant at the time) and enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered to share: Crispy Duck Confit Salad, Charred Spanish Octopus, and the Crispy Tempura Fried Shrimp. Everything was delicious! A table favorite was the Bacchus Bread because they came with different kinds of bread and dips/spreads to eat them with. For the entrees, we ordered a chicken, pasta, and braised short rib also to share. We got the Harvest Apples Flambé for dessert just because we knew they come to the table to make the apples flambe in front of you :) Overall really enjoyed the dinner and restaurant interior! I personally felt the service was a little too performative - nothing inappropriate or bad, but you know the difference between genuine service hospitality and when someone might be laying on the smiles and happy tones a little too strong. There was also one mistake with our bill that double charged us (two bottles of wine instead of one), but we went back and they corrected their mistake immediately. Lovely spot in Long Beach for a nice fancy dinner. Parking was a bit tricky to find but were able to find a spot on the street a couple blocks away. I believe there is also valet parking but we didn't see the sign for it when driving by. I had the best martini here. It was called their special martini but I think it was basically a vesper since it had a mix of vodka and gin. Bread was $10 which was on the pricey side but it tasted so fresh and came with a variety of flavors. My favorite was the spiced sourdough. We also got garlic on the side to top the bread which was quite tasty. For our other appetizer, we got octopus which was cooked well and a good sized portion. For my entree, I got lamb. Usually steakhouses serve lamb chops or lamb shank but this felt more like a beef filet mignon so a bit heartier. The lamb was cooked perfectly and loved the sides as well. We chose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary dinner/date night. We were impressed by its quaint atmosphere (twinkle lights and vintage cinema projected on silent in the background). Apparently they're known for their afternoon tea services, but their seasonally rotating dinner menu is top notch! I had the duck and my husband had the lamb. Both were exceptionally delicious. Their fresh breads are so yummy too. We had a few cocktails and wine with dinner. No complaints there. The server was probably the best I've ever had. He was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The service here is phenomenal. All the staff made sure that our experience here was the best it could be. We enjoyed some hot tea on a raining evening with some dinner. The tea and cheese plate with that amazing bread and was really all we needed but we ordered an appetizer and entrée to split. The first bolognese came out pretty peppery and spicy but we told the staff and they made us a fresh one that was delish and tasted like a completely different dish than the first one. Chef came out to ask about allergies and how we liked our meat cooked, then he went to do his magic! We had dinner with wine, and the pairings were made in heaven! From the first course to dessert, the food and presentation were perfect! The Host, and owner, John and his wife, were very gracious! John is the sommelier - that's fancy talk for he really studied his wine! Service was on point! I felt like I was in the dining scene of Beauty and the Beast, the food and wine kept coming! With each course, Chef would come out and explain each dish! He made the simplest ingredients shine like jewels! Now, it's called Chef's Table, not Your Table! Each course was a surprise! We did not know what he was concocting back there! I do not want to tell you exactly what we had, because you will have a different menu. I did add a couple of photos, I lost count after 2 courses, I think there were 6. Chef's Table is what his heart feels like making. And, my family, and I, felt his love. I had tears in my eyes! You can really feel that the folks there like being there! The restaurant is immaculate! The bathrooms are super clean! The music throughout the place was just right - enjoyable! From the moment I walked in the restaurant to the time I left I received the most amazing service, other diners did as well per my observation. I had been wanting to try the afternoon tea so I made a reservation and had the opportunity to do so. Melissa who was the waiting staff server was so kind and explained the tea selection. She also asked me and other diners as we were seated did we have any food allergies? I truly appreciate this because I do suffer from food allergies, luckily nothing listed on the tea menu yay ! The tea sandwiches, scones , pastries etc are made in house by the chef (not store bought ). I had the Egyptian rose tea which was divine . Of course I ordered a white sangria also . We came here for my cousin's 40th birthday, excited as longtime afternoon tea lovers. The ambiance was beautiful, servers elegant, and drinks enjoyable -- but the food and service did not live up to expectations. First impressions: The atmosphere is beautiful, elegant, and welcoming. The servers looked polished in their fascinators, which added to the classy vibe. We were seated right away and offered flat or sparkling water, which was a nice touch. Drinks were also promising -- I especially enjoyed my peach bellini. The food: We ordered two individual towers ($65 each) plus a bread basket. Unfortunately, the food presentation did not match the quality. The scones were dry, the chocolate chips overbaked, and the sandwiches were skimpy -- we literally received half a sandwich. The quiche was okay, the crostini chewy and cold, and the fruit tart was served in a wafer shell instead of pastry, which gave it a store-bought feel. I had asked for a boiled egg sandwich (since the menu said eggs any style were available), but what came out was a tiny round piece of bread with some scrambled egg on top -- For the price point, we were expecting high-quality, memorable finger foods, but instead it felt more like style over substance -- beautiful from afar but disappointing up close. The service & billing: Service was just okay. We had to request basics like milk and sugar, which should be standard at a tea service. What really soured the experience, though, was the billing issue. My cousin had paid a $100 deposit, which we were told would be applied to the bill. Instead, the system charged us the full amount without deducting it, leaving us with an extra $100 charge. Staff explained it was due to a new point-of-sale system and promised a refund within 3-5 business days. Regardless, it felt careless and unprofessional -- especially on a milestone birthday. Overall: Ambiance and drinks were the highlights. But the food was underwhelming, service lacked attentiveness, and the billing mishap left a bad impression. For $65 per person, we expected a polished high tea experience. I had an amazing tea date with my friends this last Saturday! They host tea time only on the weekends from 12-3pm. Recommend to make reservation. They had limited openings due its popularity. The decor was elegant, the waiters had amazing outfits to match the theme of tea time, the introduction to their tea menu was definitely done differently compared to other places I have attended. We were invited to an event promoting their new cocktail menu and it was really great. The atmosphere here is always nice, formal, white tablecloth setting. A great place for a nice date night that you get to dress up for. They recently got their liquor license, so in addition to a great wine selection, they have unique and delicious cocktails. We had the Sir Davis Old Fashioned and the Queen Bee. Both were excellent, though the old fashioned was definitely a front runner for my taste. Decided to try this because our original plans were cancelled. We were very disappointed to see that the service was very slow. The table that came after us about 15 minutes was served before us and the waiters didn't give us napkins or milk and sugar (we had to request it) while other tables didn't need to ask. The staff was kind, but they were not as accommodating as we had hoped. The food was also very very sweet. We ordered Bacchus tower and everything was overwhelmingly sweet. The butternut squash soup was so sweet it felt like our throats were coated in honey, little to no flavor of the actual squash, the quiche was cold and flavorless, but the ham sandwich with arugula wasn't half bad. The middle tier with scones and muffins were cold in the middle and seemed almost underbaked. The final top tier was the sweetest out of all of them. The cake pops were so dry, but was incredibly sweet as if they dumped a bucket of frosting into it. The cake pops disintegrated off the stick as soon as we bit into it. The meringues which are usually supposed to be light, airy, and crispy, were extremely sticky which again appeared undercooked. Finally, the milk pudding with the persimmon wasn't half bad and had good milky flavor without being too overly sweet with the persimmon. The tea selection was good. We tried 3 different teas. The duck was cooked perfectly--crispy skin, tender meat, and full of flavor. We finished with the banana cream pie for dessert, which was the ideal sweet ending. The wine list is excellent, the service impeccable, and every staff member--right down to the valet--was friendly and welcoming. I attended a work related event at Chez Bacchus (see photo of menu). I wanted to love everything but the food fell short for me. The duck confit salad was fine and the flavors worked well together but the duck strips were very roasted and texture was almost like dried duck jerky strips. The roasted filet mignon was tender and delicious but the portion size was half of my fist - maybe 2 oz. Mine was cooked medium rare, which was perfect, but my neighbor requested medium and hers was very rare. I enjoyed my filet very much, however - just wish there was more of it. The butter cake was a full portion but I did not taste much butter in it. It was also on the drier side. A few people and I left still hungry and I picked up takeout to munch on. It's rare to find a restaurant where you feel like every detail has been thought through and executed with care, but that's exactly what Bacchus delivers. We started with the Bacchus Bread and the Crispy Tempura Shrimp--both incredible. The bread came out warm and fresh, and the shrimp was incredible - taste, texture, freshness, presentation: perfect. For our main, we had the Creekstone Flat Iron Steak Frites, which was cooked beautifully and packed with flavor. And then came dessert: the fried-to-order beignets. No exaggeration--this might be the best dessert we've ever had. Light, airy, slightly crisp on the outside, and somehow still warm and soft in the center. Then dipped in a delightful dulce de leche. Unreal. The service was gracious and attentive without being overbearing. Everyone we interacted with was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. Charming restaurant that's perfect for a date or meeting up with friends. We went with a group of 4 for brunch at around 11am. The owners (husband and wife) were so friendly and took great care of us! We ordered the Sadie's seasonal pastries, chilaquiles, chile verde, and fried chicken + buttermilk biscuits, and 2 sides of bacon. The pastries we delicious! Super flavorful and tasted really fresh. The chile verde was not very hot when it came out, but still had excellent flavor. The chilaquiles were very tasty and the chipotle sauce had great depth! I ordered the chilaquiles with fried eggs instead of scrambled, and they accidentally brought out scrambled, but it was an easy fix. The fried chicken resembled chicken strips/fingers vs a traditional chicken breast/thigh. For our drinks we originally ordered 4 bloody Mary's, but we were later told they only had enough mix to make 3. The mix was super flavorful though and is made by one of their cooks! We ordered a fiero spritz in lieu of the 4th Bloody Mary, but they ended up bringing us something completely different with no real explanation... Overall, it's a charming spot with fresh bites. I am predicting that Chez Bacchus is going to be the next restaurant in Long Beach to earn a Michelin Star! Their service is outstanding and consistent. Knowledgeable sommeliers are on deck to suggest the best pairings and match your preference. If the owner is there and the chef is available, they will greet or serve you and check to see how your experience is. They have a very extensive wine list from all over the world. Prices vary and are reasonable. They also serve cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks as well. When I went a while back, I loved the exotic dishes they had like wild boar meatballs and ostrich! Now, with a new chef, the menu seems more refined, but with a few items for the adventurous eater. To start, my husband and I shared the Autumn Salad ($16) and Wagyu Beef Cheek Pot Pie ($30). The salad was a decent size, with a zesty pomegranate vinaigrette. The pot pie, on the other hand, was pretty small. However, the crust was light and flakey and the Wagyu cheek melted in our mouths. For our entrees, we shared the Barramundi ($41) and Long Beach Mushroom Risotto ($36). Skin on with a crispy char, the fish was tender inside and cooked to perfection. Chez Bacchus gets their mushroom (and other produce) right here in our backyard farms! I loved all the veggies that were in the creamy risotto. Unfortunately, we didn't leave room for dessert, but I would like to try the Bananas Foster next time! It's quite entertaining to watch them make it too! Came here for a final date night before our first baby arrives! My husband and I wanted to go out with a bang and this was the place to do it. The ambiance is very romantic and beautiful inside. The service is top notch, we talked to our server, the owner, the chef, the bartender, everyone! Holy cow! 10 stars if we could. I booked this place is an anniversary dinner after recommendation for one of my clients. Little did I know, my SO proposed to me the week prior, so it became a celebratory dinner as well. First off, our reservations were for chefs table at 6:30 PM on Saturday night. We left Huntington Beach at 5:50 roughly, but got stuck in so much traffic off PCH. I called in right before 630 to let them know. Reina was so kind and told us there was no issues. She just stress that we should drive safely and get there OK. John introduced himself first. I didn't know he was one of the owners. I just knew he was our sommelier. We ended up with a six course meal plus wine pairing. Chef Danny, John, and all the servers were so kind to us. When chef, Danny asked S what her favorite dish was we honestly could not tell him. I felt so terrible because I loved everything. We ate so much! I cannot stress enough that you should definitely go for the bread bowl! When I first read the reviews on it, I thought it was a joke. It came with our food as part of the chef's table. My fiancé and I both agree that it is the best bread we've ever had. It is made with a starter that chef Danny got in 2020. I'll start by saying that this is the first restaurant I've ever gone to with my in-laws, at either their suggestion or mine, after which my mother-in-law, age 73, told me to "be sure you go to yelp or google or wherever and say the things about them." I laughed, "you mean, write a review? Already on it." It's also the first time that they've a) said "we're definitely coming back, with you or not, haha" and b) started potentially planning to rent out the chef's room for future dinners. They were even hoping to shift our Thanksgiving plans to Chez Bacchus. Please note, they live a two-hour LA commute away, with many fine eating establishments within 30 minutes of their front door. Food-wise, we can only speak for a few items, as she and I both had the swordfish and my father-in-law and son both had the duck. Both dishes were superlative. I'm not a fan of duck, but my father-in-law is, and says it was the best he's had. I AM a fan of swordfish, but my mother-in-law saying it was "perfection" means more to me than my own equivalent opinion. We also had the bread and fromage plates. My in-laws are extreme foodies and also profound fans of bread and fromage, and both indicated it was the best of both they've ever encountered - given that they've dined from here to europe and everywhere in between, that was high praise. It's also worth noting that my son and I both tend to avoid bread and fromage plates, and even we couldn't resist. And the champagne! I wish I could recall what we ordered, but I do recall it was South African and the best champagne any of us have ever had. Again: that's more meaningful when my in-laws say it. My father-in-law had his first glass only because it was my birthday; normally he stops at one drink, and it's usually a chardonnay. Instead, he had three glasses of said champagne. But all that aside, where they really shone was in ambiance and service. It's a perfect location; corner lot, twinkle lights all around, music playing just loud enough to enjoy but not so loud as to be intrusive. My son is deaf in one ear and usually has a terrible time at restaurants due to all the noise; I think this is the first time since the surgery that left him deaf in said ear, back in 2016, that he was actually able to participate in the conversation at dinner and didn't leave with a headache after missing most of the conversation. The sports at the bar and old movies in the main restaurant added a great touch. My son and I were also delighted to see the signs in the mens/womens restrooms; a great touch of cheek that I won't spoil for new patrons, but it brought a smile to both our faces. This is "fine dining" (quotes because we learned they don't consider themselves fine-dining, though that is indeed the experience) with some cheek and with absolutely no airs or stuffiness. Service-wise, I'll leave it at: I was stunned to at one point turn around and see that the restaurant was nearly filled. From my vantage point, it was as though we had rented the entire place out, so attentive was the service. It was never intrusive or out of place, but this is the first time I've ever not known who my actual server was - it seemed like everyone from the host(ess) to the chef to the sommelier (and perhaps the owner as well?) made it to our table several times. The evening ended with a little tour of the Chef's room as well as some personal history given about how the restaurant came into being. This was the first time I've ever dragged my in-laws down to LB amidst brutal traffic and not ended up feeling guilty that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. It was definitely worth the squeeze, for all of us, at Chez Bacchus. This restaurant is relatively new, and I hope my review causes at least a few people to check it out, because I'd love it to become a staple of the city. My husband and I came here for the first time last weekend. This restaurant turned out to be the setting for a perfect date night! The menu changes fairly often as it is based on seasonal local ingredients. I chose to have the Opah meal and it was everything and more that I was expecting!! The fish was cooked to perfection with a nice crusty outside and a thick divine flaky but meaty center. It was served on a bed of farro, I think, which was deliciously prepared to compliment the fish. There were lovely pieces of broccoli and cauliflower on the sides. My husband chose the duck breast which came cooked rare with a little cooked apple on top. It also had a side of cooked chard to go with it. We each had a specialty cocktail to start our evening. I had the Pomegranate Sour while my husband chose the Autumn Sunset. We each loved our individual drink and would have them again. For dessert we splurged on Sticky Toffee Pudding topped with a small scoop of vanilla gelato. We also had the Orange Soufflé complete with a Chantilly sauce. We had French pressed coffee and all three items were very satisfying and scrumptious! We did have to take leftovers of both desserts home to our son as they were a nice size. Chez Bacchus is the ultimate restaurant. Service was amazing. This place is a must. Farm-to-table food was amazing. I went there for Tea what an experience. Everything was amazing, very tasty. My daughters and I normally do Tea once a year at the Waldorf Astoria in Las Vegas. But let me tell you, Chez Bacchus was 10 times better. From the food to the tea. The knowledge they had about the different teas was phenomenal. I was so full when we left, I never felt that way when eating at the Waldorf. I can guarantee you we will be back more than once a year. This place is a must! You will not regret it. read more
