I only really leave reviews if a place really stands out, both in a fantastic way, but in some cases, like Ellies in not the best ways. I'm hoping this was an off night for them because man, what a let down. This was my friend and my first time here and it was all over pretty rocky. To start, zero ac inside, we asked to move outside and they very quickly accommodated us which was great. We came for the LB week 3 course after seeing the menu online. I was looking forward to the Tuna entree but they had changed the fish, that's ok changes happen but my second choice was the steak... this was unfortunate because online it just listed it as an individual entree upcharge where at the location it was actually required to share and a double upcharge. So I ordered what was never a preference and got the replacement fish. On top of that there were some misleading wording about the pastas but that's ok, wasn't even the worst part. We ordered, along with some oysters and were excited to get started. Things started great with the table apps and wine but it was about 15 minutes after we finished those we thought we should check on those oysters, glad I did because they clearly weren't going to come out. Besides a few missing condiments to go with the oysters, the food was great up to this point. But, it was now over 40 minutes since our apps and the 2nd course (pasta) was no where to be found, better ask again. Another flag down. Both pastas came out about 5 minutes later having clearly just been cooked and both were underwhelming. There was mention of Italian sausage as a listed ingredient but as a Sicilian I can tell you, please don't bother listing this ingredient, it was microscopic at best. Another suprise came when the check hit the table and we had to inform the server we hadn't even received our entrees. It made sense though because even though we ordered around 720, it was now almost 9pm and they were closing. By the time the entrees came out (3 minutes before 9) the pace had been so slow we were just so annoyed we wanted to go home. We actually had to cancel the plans we had after dinner because it was getting too late. Honestly, the worst part was that there was no way they didn't know how long service was taking and there wasn't a single person that even said, "we're so sorry about the wait". We honestly understand things happen, but to completely pretend it's normal and not acknowledge that we had to keep asking about our food.... We came here because I was craving oysters. The only downside is that parking around the area is really difficult, so be prepared to spend some time looking for a spot. The oysters were served with a sauce already on them, which wasn't my preference since I like adding my own. Thankfully, the manager was quick to help and had them changed. I really appreciated the excellent customer service. The steak was flavorful, and the pasta was absolutely delicious--my husband and I both loved it. Overall, I'm giving this place 4 stars. My colleagues were raving about this place for their fresh oysters on the HH menu so last month, a few of my other colleagues finally got a chance to stop by on a Friday during their HH. We made a reservation for outside for 6 and had such a wonderful time. Food was incredible and the scallop and oysters were so yummy! We ordered two dozens of each! I was surprised by how small the restaurant is, inside. I think the best seats in the house are outdoor! Service was a bit slow but we didn't mind because food was incredible! So glad that I finally stopped by Ellie's. This place is great! Loved their happy hour (oyster menu) headed by $1.50 oysters and $3.50 scallops. The oysters were good but the scallops were great! We went here to see if the service has improved. Unfortunately it's still the same. Food service took a long time! Food was okay, we felt that the food was too expensive for what you get. We got Tagliatelle $27 it came with a few pieces of cut shrimp and with some sort of sausage. Hard to tell cause it was just slivers of it. The Chicken Picatta $34 was a decent serving, but taste wise again just okay. The dessert was very disappointing! Wayyyyy too expensive, $14 for a small portion (as big as those package ones you get from 7/11) with whipped cream on top. When we went here a year ago it was the same issues. I do say I love every restaurant I review, but Ellie's is my favorite place. There are a few obstacles when getting to this restaurant such as, limited parking and it being located near Ocean Blvd.; it's still worth the obstacles I face when getting here !!!!!!! & this is coming from a person who is maxed out laziness. I do have to round the block a few times for parking but this place is worth the drive and terrible parking. I am also a person of habit so I will always get the same dish as a precaution. Ellie's is one of the few places where I like every item from their menu. I am lazy to look for other food pics from Ellie's so here are three pics from my most recent visit. My favorite that is not pictured is the gnocchi. I crave it so often, I try to replicate it until I return back to Ellie's For the price, this place is $$$. Especially because when you are having a rich pasta, you MUST get the wine to go with it. Everything from here does add up but it's worth every obstacle (centralizing theme within this review). Servers are amazing and beautiful people. They are always in a genuine great mood that makes the dining experience great. Though the inside of the restaurant is small, there is plenty of tables on its patio. The patio is on the sidewalk, which I normally hate because restaurants typically lack in service and ambience when seated outside. Not for Ellie's, service and ambience is even better outside. My friend and I decided to check out Ellie's for their LBFS Week menu and were very disappointed. First of all, the online menu is pretty deceiving because it doesn't say that you can only choose 1 pasta per table, and it also doesn't state that if you choose the steak option, 2 people have to choose it together and get charged an extra $56 total. Anyways, we paid an extra $12 to be able to get both pasta options, in addition to an a la carte order of half a dozen oysters as well. The dinner started great. It took about 30 minutes for the bread and sweet potato to come out, but we enjoyed both dishes and were excited for what was to come. This was when everything went downhill. We ordered at around 7:30pm, and the pasta didn't come out until 8:40pm... and we had to check with our server for them to bring the pastas out. Despite all the raving reviews, the pastas were underwhelming. The sweet corn risotto did not have a hint of corn flavor, even though it was good. The mafaldine was... okay, tasted like any other average Italian place that I can find anywhere.... We patiently waited another 15 minutes, and our entrees finally came out at 8:57pm, which was a generous 3 minutes before their closing time, also 1.5 hours after the time we ordered..... The busser literally dropped off the check before the entrees even came out, and I had to tell her that our entrees hadn't come out yet The entree portions were insanely small, but it made sense for a $38 menu, so not a big deal. For a 1.5 hour wait, the entrees were also underwhelming and def not worth the wait. The best thing of the $200 meal was actually their free dessert, very yummy lol To me, the most baffling thing was that the whole night, no one from Ellie's ever acknowledged the insane wait. They all acted very normal, like it's just a normal process for them. If only they had said something along the lines of, "I'm so sorry for the long wait, the kitchen is so busy today", we wouldve felt a lot better about the experience. Both of us work in hospitality, so we understand that sometimes things don't go as planned, but their nonchalance left us with a sour note.... I was so excited to try this place after hearing great things but it was just okay. I came for the lunch prix fixe. We got the Caesar salad which I was let down by; flavor was lacking and the croutons were so hard I thought my tooth would break. We also got the brussel sprouts which were amazing; cooked to perfection and the sauce was phenomenal. We got the mafaldine pasta which hardly tasted like a vodka pasta, I compared the flavor to a thin, unseasoned tomato soup. The pasta itself was great but the base was not. We also got the tagliatelle which made up for the disappointing mafaldine. The pasta was the perfect texture, flavor was amazing, and the fishy shrimp took it to the next level. The included dessert was a panna cotta which was good but nothing to write home about. The interior did not feel like an authentic Italian restaurant and was drab/dry. Typical white/gray interior that takes away the authenticity of a restaurant. Lastly, there were several large flies, which I understand may not the restaurants fault but one did land in my wine which they did quickly replace. The restaurant has a cute, no-fuss decor style that still feels cozy and elevated. We sat inside, which seemed like a much nicer vibe than the outdoor seating. Let me say this was a surprise , a good one. A small restaurant tucked along the neighborhood blocks from the beach. I've seen it a few times but never had the chance to try it out. It's a small restaurant with a nice cool clean beach vibe inside and a simple patio just outside with tables and heatlamps. We arrived just after happy hour which they're known as oyster hours. And let me say, the name explain itself. There were only three tables utilized when we arrived at the patio but by the time we ordered, it was completely full. People arriving minutes after each other and I'm sure it was for oyster hours. Self explanatory, oyster happy hours. For 1.50 a piece, that can't be beat. Pretty much every table had a dozen or so. Besides that, they also had a good happy hour menu on both drinks and meals. Also the regular dinner menu was quite impressive. A mixture of everything. But we were here for happy hours. House wines were 8.00 a glass and a dozen oysters were shared. They were quite tasty and served with horseradish and cocktails sauce. Simple eats but very delicious. We could have had more but we already had plans for dinner. Looking around, everyone had oysters on their table. The main attractions as it's known. Besides that, all the other dishes that were coming out all looked amazing. Fish and chips and their salads looked quite delicious. Service was excellent. I came here for Oyster Hour (Tue-Thur 4-6, Sat-Sun 3-5) which had an amazing deal for $1.50 oysters and there were other happy hour dishes as well. It was a hot sunny day so we were hoping to sit inside with the AC, but unfortunately there were no AC or fans in the restaurant and the outdoor seats didn't have shade. The food was decent, but the overall experience was marred by how uncomfortably stuffy it was in the restaurant. Here's what we got: Brussel Sprouts ($11 during Oyster Hour) Absolutely delicious! The brussel sprouts had a beautiful char and a mix of sweet and savory flavors from the brown butter saba and sausage. Oysters ($1.50 each during Oyster Hour) Fresh, plump, and refreshing. Came with horseradish, mignonette, and cocktail sauce. Tagliatelle ($26) Ragu had a rich depth of wine flavor. The pasta had a good texture and tasted homemade. The portion size was small though. Chitarra ($29) The pasta was cooked well and had nice texture, but the chili made the sauce too spicy and overpowered the basil pesto. The portion size was small as well. All the Things Fries ($12 during Oyster Hour) Decent loaded fries, but nothing special. 5/5 for Oyster hour which was amazing! $1.5 versus the normal $5.5 is definitely worth it. 5/5 for Service from the entire staff. 5/5 for ambiance. We sat outside and it was great. Once it started getting dark, they turned the heaters on and had enough light for seeing your food and being with good company. 5/5 for the side of whipped butter and side of bread. -5/5 for the loaded fries. Don't get these unless you have money to burn. They were $12 during the happy hour and they had what looked and tasted like melted cheddar sliced cheese on top of their fries sprinkled with their sauce and some sesame seeds. This was the most disappointing thing we ordered. 3-4/5 for the remainder of the food. Pasta isn't as fresh as it should be for the price and most of the sauces were completely over salted. The side of crab dip although real crab meat, was a very small portion for happy hour. Not sure if it's differently portioned for normal hours. Brussels sprouts were delicious with their sausage. They should use this sausage in their pasta... if it happens to be the same then they need to cook it separate as the sausage in the pasta is a soggy mushy texture instead. As someone in our family is hard of hearing, sitting outside is much better as inside is very loud. Service is always a question mark for me here. There is nearly always some misstep. Did the 6-course prix fixe at Ellie's and it was honestly such a solid experience. Every course felt intentional and well-paced -- nothing felt like filler, which is rare with prix fixe menus. The potato croquettes were crispy and creamy with a bright herb sauce, and the salmon tartare was fresh, clean, and really well balanced with pistachio and herbs. The pasta course was rich and comforting without being too heavy. For mains, both options delivered -- the New York strip was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the roasted vegetables, while the sea bass over hummus and chickpeas was lighter but still packed with flavor. Dessert was the perfect way to wrap things up. Huge shoutout to EJ -- his customer service was amazing. He explained how they do this prix fixe every Monday and also mentioned they offer brunch, which I didn't even know about. We also did the wine pairing he recommended, and it was a 10/10 -- every glass complemented the food perfectly. The music was great, the atmosphere was on point, and the only downfall is parking -- so come early or just Uber and save yourself the stress LOL. Other than that, everything was a win. The place is very cute and although it was a little windy that night, we opted to sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze (the heaters helped though lol). We ordered a few items to share including the crab dip, Wagyu tartare, potato croquettes, and since they're known for their handmade pastas, we also ordered the gnocchi. Everything was tasty and the gnocchi was very good. We paired it with some wine and it was perfect. Street parking may be a little challenging but it's worth circling around and taking a short walk. Tartare was a great start, being super flavorful with great texture. Tagliatelle was our favorite of the two pastas, with both pastas having nice chew, but the sauce of the tagliatelle was super flavorful, with a tad of spice and good. Short rib sauce was just real meaty, which is great for true carnivores like my boyfriend, just preferred the tagliatelle from a flavor dimension perspective. Visited for a weekend brunch. I had the option of either indoor or outdoor seating. I chose indoor because I didn't want to sit in the sun. Unfortunately even while sitting inside, there were a couple of flies flying around my food the entire time - a bit of an annoyance. The doors of the restaurant were left wide open. Regardless, the food was pretty good. Shrimp & Melon: This sharable dish surprised me. It consists of shrimp, Persian cucumber, serrano chile, mint, and creme fraiche vinaigrette. The combination of everything was delicious. The melon creates a sweet, refreshing base, while the shrimp creates a savory seafood element. Very light and aromatic. I highly recommend trying this. Breakfast Pasta: This dish was not super flavorful. My favorite part about it was the poached egg. The truffle and bacon weren't very notable. I did enjoy the aged parmesan bread crumbs sprinkled on top of the pasta for added crunchiness and textural contrast. The portion size felt a bit small, which may be due to how rich and creamy this pasta is. Bolognese Benedict: Probably the most unique benedict I've ever had. This dish had 2 poached eggs and pork bolognese on top of house rolls with hollandaise sauce. The egg yolks were perfectly runny and the bread rolls were toasted very nicely. A side salad was provided on the plate, which was great for balancing out all the flavors. Although there is no designated parking lot for this restaurant, plenty of nearby street parking was available when I was there. Reservations for dining can be made online, but keep in mind that they do require your credit card information to make a reservation. If you are visiting for brunch or lunch, you should be fine with just walking in, as there will likely be open tables. read more

I was perusing new places to think of trying and stumbled across this place. Took my friends here to end the day with some bomb food and here's my thoughts. I love the aesthetics of this place, it's got a good balance between simple/homey and classy/modern. It reminds me of the small restaurant/cafes in SF where it's cozy but not too loud that it would be overly stimulating. We arrived nearing dinner time and ended up having to wait about 40 mins for our table to be ready. Here's the food: Oysters & Scallops on the half shell: The Scallops were fresh and delicious, but my nitpick might be trying to emphasize the freshness of the scallops more as the accoutrements seem to be the main star. It comes with a little bit of heat in the accoutrements but I don't think it's too bad that someone who has some spice tolerance can't handle. Normally you'd have to get 6 minimum, but since they ran out of oysters, they waived it. Baked Parmesan Cavatelli: I was looking for a simple dish to end the night as I wasn't feeling too peckish. The dish was the right choice. garlic confit permeated and infused itself into the sauce giving it a rich and in depth flavor. It would go great with some extra bread to change up the texture though, I feel slightly conflicted on the bread crumbs myself. The cavatelli was cooked to al dente. Bone-In Short Rib Agnolotti: Easily the highlight of the dishes that night. The short rib was cooked bone in for a couple of hours, when it had gotten to our table, it was practically falling off the bone! For the price, I think that it was definitely worth it! Angel Hair: My other friend asked for a custom order as she couldn't handle spice well, but we didn't realize it would take 20 - 30 minutes because the spice was infused into the sauce and they needed to make a batch specifically for her. Other than that, the angel hair came out amazing to my friend. I would say that with it being a seafood pasta, there wasn't that much clams and lobster in it. No pictures to back it up unfortunately. Garlic bread: This was comp'd by the manager because of the long wait we had with our pasta earlier. I loved the garlic bread. I'm not normally a bread person, but the bread here was divine, the bread was freshly made as the inside was still moist and accentuated with the crispy exterior, freshly grated parmesan, and olive oil They ran out of gnocchi when we went unfortunately as that was the dish I was most excited to get. Next time if I'm in the area, i'll have to give them another try. There's no parking at Ellie's itself, we had to resort to looking for street parking. read more

Wow! Finally got a chance to try this place. Last couple times we could NOT find parking, so their warning about walking or ridesharing here is very real. However, it's not too difficult to uber over from the rest of downtown for a few bucks. Safe to say I think it was definitely worth the price to rideshare over here. It's certainly a lowkey spot--on a weekday night it seemed not busy at all, but you'll see it get packed during the weekends. The ambience inside is super cute and great for a date night. Menu is pretty simple, but everything sounds good! The food all tasted super fresh and ingredients were high quality. I really liked the Winter Squash and the Malfadine--the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and portion size was pretty decent for a restaurant of this type. The caesar was quite interesting, but don't expect your typical caesar salad dressing--it was on the more acidic side but almost refreshing in a way. Overall I thought prices were pretty reasonable for the quality of food and the great service. Their menu changes quite often so keep in mind the dishes in these reviews are often subject to change, but it does look like many things are menu staples. Getting here can be a little more effort, but definitely give it a try at least once to see if you'll be back! read more

We were in town one night prior to leaving on a cruise. My wife picked out Ellie's based on reviews and we were really looking forward to a fine Italian dining experience. We had reservations, but still had to wait 30 minutes, which was a little surprising. But to their credit, it's a small restaurant and they can't help if people sit for a long time after their meal. We started with a Caesar salad salad and a baby beet salad. The baby beet salad was our favorite dish of the entire night. Great flavor and textures. I'm a big fan of Caesar salad salads and this was not one of the best. They put some type of spice on it that really detracted from it. It made it entirely too spicy to eat. I chose the Angel hair pasta, and my wife had the tagliatelle. The Angel hair was supposed to come with muscles clams and lobster. There was a total of five pieces of seafood in the entire pasta and they were all very small. Quite disappointing for a fine dining experience. The angel hair was also lacking enough seasoning. My wife liked her tagliatelle but also said she's had a lot better. We ended with the tiramisu which was good. Overall we were disappointed in what is touted as fine dining and comes with a higher end cost, but delivered a lot less. read more

I wish I had a better review to leave but this just isn't the case.... my girlfriend and I came here to try there prefixed menu during lunch and we legit were the only people there around 3pm. The service was good and our waiter tried his best so there's no complaints on that end. Our apps took about 30 minutes to hit our table and another 30 minutes to get our mains, both of which had hairs in them, amounting to 4 hairs in total....we didn't complain and just moved on trying to enjoy the meal. Given how long everything took, once the mains hit the table we asked for the desserts to be brought out. The desserts came out immediately, the chef decided strawberries and whip cream was the effort he'd put out after the beyond long wait for our food. The food itself wasn't bad, but given the hair in every dish it was hard to enjoy and look past. The lowest effort possible of strawberries and whip cream after such a long wait just felt like a slap in the face. I would say I'd be back to give this place another try but I'd be lying, I wish the experience was better but it was just such a let down. Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the food wasn't bad and the service was solid so while I wish I could review things individually, the reality was overall a big let down apart from the server and food itself. read more

Possibly the best italian food I've had in a very long time. Every. Single. Dish. Was. Delicious. We ordered 2 tagliatelle dish to share between 3 people- but I practically had one whole dish to myself the brussel sprouts was perfectly crispy and cooked in bacon oil - NOT salty at all and the shrimp & melon salad. My goodness- SUCH A GREAT STARTER. It doesn't sound so great but when you take a bite, it's like eating a refreshing Mediterranean salad with an Italian twist to it. This restaurant will definitely be on my rotation from now on. They have really kind employees and the service is quite fast for a small restaurant. It gives that feeling of a "friendly neighborhood restaurant" with amazing food. You won't regret trying this spot. read more

I met my friends at Ellie's for lunch on a Sunday . We were seated upon arrival. Our server was great and very funny. We ordered 4 dishes to share. They brought the chilaquiles first which were very tasty, then we had the shrimp and melon salad which was refreshing. Then we continue with the Ellie's omelette which was so far my favorite. It was so creamy and soft. My friends liked the fries. I normally don't eat fries therefore I have not much to say. We came here during The marathon weekend, however it was easy to find parking. read more

Ellie's has yet to disappoint! We came for brunch this time around and the food was just as memorable as the dinner service. Everything was delicious as per usual...the staff is friendly and helpful, the location is small and intimate but clean and airy. I honestly can't believe I haven't left a review for Ellie's yet as I've been a few times and have always had an excellent experience. For brunch: The shrimp and melon is sooo refreshing and delicious. It's giving "fresh with a little kick." Their crispy potatoes are also so good and a fairly big portion so it's definitely shareable. Their crab toast was so appetizing and fresh -- you can tell the quality is high all around. For my main dish I ordered the chilaquiles and was happy to see chicken already came included as I feel a lot of places often charge extra to add protein to chilaquiles. For lunch/dinner stand outs include: bone marrow board, bread and butter and mafaldine pasta. I'm not sure if it's limited time or not but I recently went to their oyster hour with a friend (Tues-Fri 4:00-6:00pm, Sat & Sun 3:00-5:00pm) and was so glad I did. Their oysters are $1.50 during this time which is an absolute steal! A dozen oysters for ~$18? YES PLS. We also got the parker house rolls which were so flipping good and had the texture of Raising Cane's toast but like 100x better. Lastly, we got their fish and chips which came out piping hot and were the perfect comfort food vibe. They also have $8 glasses of red, white, rosé or sparkling during this time frame too.
