San Fran stuffed French toast with seasonal berries
    Danielle B.

Our boss treated us to lunch for a coworker's work anniversary and he had heard great things about this place and decided to try it out. It's tucked in a neighborhood and so parking was pretty sparse but we found a spot about a block away. We came around 11:45 am during the week and we were able to get a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us some good suggestions on what to try. I ordered the roast beef and scrambled eggs-16.50, and my coworkers ordered the chorizo and apple sausage which are both $14.95. Our boss ordered for the table the San Fran stuffed French toast with seasonal berries ($14.99) to share! I really enjoyed my roast beef hash and potatoes on the side. The side of baguette bread I could have done with out since it was a bit harder to eat. The French toast was different with the baguette bread but I really enjoyed it since it didn't make the bread all soggy like other French toast can do( sad we had to share it lol).

Was surprised to find that this little diner was located in the neighborhood would've never thought it would be here. There's plenty of street parking. We came just a little before they close got a symbol, scrambled eggs and corned, beef hash and honestly, I've had better hash didn't like how this one was prepared. It was like a burger, patty and a little too done on the outside for me in greasy. Also didn't like their breakfast potatoes, which were a huge chunks of Yukon gold potatoes felt more on the heavier side. The eggs were cooked nice and fluffy. It also came with a little piece of bread with some butter on the side. My friend ordered their basic breakfast, which is basically eggs, potatoes, and bread and at first both of our plates came out a little cold so they were nice to bring us new plates that were nice and fresh. The staff was very friendly. I probably come here again to try their other items.

You need to order the French toast here. It's the best French toast over ever had anywhere omg. It's stuffed with a custard that's not too sweet but perfectly blends with the bread and it comes out warm almost every time. Also the bananas are super ripe it's so good. Their service here is also excellent they are very welcoming right when you walk in. I've been here a few times never had a bad experience. The inside is cozy small cafe vibes the tables are a little small but that's my only gripe. Other than that's this place is amazing and has a must try French toast.

We were able to arrive just before the brunch rush. We were able to try a few different things on the menu. The breakfast bruschetta was very interesting. So used to savory style but this sweet item was a treat. You can't go wrong with classic bacon and eggs. The banana and Nutella stuffed French toast was good. Not too sweet like some places. The blue crab cake and eggs were delicious by far a fave on the menu.

Food is delectable! The diner is charming! Service is superb! The staff are hospitable and prices are affordable! EAT HERE! If you're on the fence between this place and another, pick this diner! If you're worried about parking, parking sucks everywhere! Eat here! I had their basic breakfast with a side order of smoked salmon. It was perfect. The potatoes were seasoned well, and the scrambled eggs had a nice chew. Butter on a soft baguette will always be a yes for me! I also had their stuffed french toast with caramelized apples. The best french toast I've had to date. The baguette held up so well against the tender apples and creamy mascarpone. I highly recommend it!

I had this place bookmarked for a very long time. Finally got the chance to try it. I heard that they are very popular for their French toast. So of course we gotta try it. The French toast here was very different from the ones I normally get. They used baguettes for their French toast. We got the Caramelized apples with Brandy butter. The apples were caramelized perfectly. It wasn't so sweet like other places that I have tried. Also, it was nice that there was still a crunch to it. The apples were not super soft and mush like most places. The mascarpone or cream cheese for filling was simple but yummy. Although, they executed this item well I still prefer the original French toast breads. I like my French toast on the softer end. Baguettes required more chewing since it was not as soft. Overall, I don't mind eating it again lol We also ordered the Egg Benjamin. This was a salmon Benedict without the biscuits. I do prefer it this way. They provided a bread on the side instead. It came with some potatoes. I like the potatoes they used, but I do prefer it to be steamed. The exterior was somewhat hard. I got tired of eating it. We tried the blue crab cake as well. It was yummy, but prob something to share. I usually prefer lumps of crabs in my crab cakes. The flavor was good, but we got sick of it quick. Not sure why. Maybe too creamy?? It was good tho. Coffee was good. Normal & fresh Service was ok Parking was not bad.

Fast, dependable, consistent. Staff here is really friendly. I finally got a mimosa here and loved it. Starling is a time capsule of the millennial brunch craze and I hope they never change a thing.

Cute little diner tucked away on 3rd Street. Find street parking in the area, be sure not to block people's driveways! They have outdoor and indoor seating. Been here a couple times. They have a variety of teas, coffees, sodas annnnnnd ADULT COCKTAILS. I've had their basic breakfast which is really good, their scones are house made so they're very soft in the inside. Their blue crab cakes are good BUT their French toast is AMAZING. Not too sweet, just the right amount of fruit, we got one for the table to share and I'm pretty sure I could have ate that all on my own. They're only open til 3 and it gets crowded on weekends so hurry over!

Delicious breakfast spot. It was super busy Sunday morning. Wait time was around 30 mins, however it's the spot to eat. They serve wine, beer, coffee and fresh drinks. I really enjoyed their water with the mint leaves it made my water really refreshing to drink. The food was delicious and the service was excellent!

absolutely phenomenal breakfast service was lovely and inside was super duper cute!!! can't wait to come back could not recommend the delicious honey steamer more WOW

Best breakfast in Long Beach hands down. Everyone I bring here says the same. Staff is amazing as well. You won't taste scrambles or stuffed French toast better than here I promise.

Dank drink. Da bomb diggty! I got the honey steamer. With almond milk! Love love it!

Food was amazing definitely coming back! Soup was fantastic can't wait to try another flavor. Looking forward to trying the French toast. I heard it's delicious. Going to try some of their scones seeing if they'll live up to the rest of the par.

Breakfast Bundle - Starling Diner Bundles. Didn't care for the gravy at all.

We got there early for a weekend breakfast a few weeks ago, just before they opened, we sat inside. Friendly service that was attentive. The place has a cozy, homey cafe vibe. The stuffed french toast is made with a baguette and was exceptional (5/5): fluffy, creamy, pillowy in all the right ways; the version with fresh berries was excellent and enjoyed by both adults & little kids. I had the slow-roasted pork scramble with caramelized onions (4.9/5): flavors were deep and rich, potatoes were flavorful, and almost perfect if the portion was a little larger. One item that missed the mark for us was the Breakfast Bundle (3.5/5) We asked our waiter for an explanation but he didn't really explain that it's basically a very small wrap. The wrap itself was reasonable, but nothing interesting; the simple mixed green salad that came with it was quite nice. The gravy had a slightly weird flavor (too much white pepper, or thyme, or something else?) that made us happy that we got it on the side. Neither adults nor kids really cared for it. Sorry, wouldn't order that one again. Overall we found enough to enjoy that I look forward to coming back to enjoy this nice neighborhood spot again soon.

As of a month ago, no dogs outside on patio due to an incident they had.

    Is there a Kids menu?

Hi, I really did not check but most places have s kids menu. Sorry

Is it first come first serve or do you take reservations for a party of 7?

    First come first serve

    Is it still dog friendly?

Unfortunately no. Despite what their Yelp page says, it has not been updated to reflect they no longer allow dogs on the patio.

Will you be open on New Year's Day?

Are you open for dine in?

    Yes

    Are u open today?

We are closed today for 4 th of July observation

    Is there public parking nearby?

Its on a residential street- tons of free parking

Are they currently for dine in with outside seating?

    Yes

    What vegan options are there?

They have a granola, or you can order a lot of the salads without cheese or meat on it. Not a ton of options, but there's still ways to work around it.

Do you really have vegan options? The last comment about vegan options was three months ago it stated there were no vegan options but the yelp pg says there are. I will be there in April with a group of friends so just want to know my options?

    Yes we do.

    Is this place dog friendly?

Yes, I've seen dogs outside since they have outside seating:)

He was kind, polite, and carried himself with such warmth -- and yes, those curls were beautiful. He set the tone for the entire experience. Demetrius seated us, and our server Joe took great care of us. For starters, we ordered the wedge salad and the meatballs. Both were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. For our entrées, we had the grilled salmon with bok choy and mashed potatoes, and the steak sandwich with French fries. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The ambience was wonderful. They have a full bar, and you can watch the chefs prepare dishes right from your table, which adds to the experience. I also appreciated seeing the general manager actively running food and engaging with guests -- leadership like that shows. Another thing that stood out was how clean and organized the restaurant stayed. The moment a table was vacated, it was cleared and reset within minutes. Everything looked spotless. There's so much on the menu that I want to come back and try. I highly recommend this place. And last but definitely not least -- thank you, Demetrius, for noticing my parking time had expired and getting me that extra 15 minutes. You saved me a ticket. You're a true gem. The Bake Mac & Cheese is a must-order--the crunchy topping is easily the best part and gives it such a great texture. We also tried the Grilled Provoleta. Tell me to meet you somewhere and I'll be there. Simple as that and less stress for me. Anyways, that's how we ended up at this place. Trying to find happy hour with food in the area was somewhat a challenge. Either they were finishing up or it wasn't that interesting on the menu. Of course some places offered amazing drink deals but no food. We ended up here actually across the street still looking up for places but the rooftop patio was what caught our attention. The restaurant itself looked bare as there was no one inside. Still on the early side but noticing people going in and then heading up stairs. After a few debates on here and there, we gave up and found our way here. Checked in with the host, letting him know that we just wanted happy hour upstairs. It was about two flights of stairs which the place looked quite industrial with all the metal beams and stairs. Downstairs was beautiful but completely emptied. Everyone wanted to utilize the rooftop patio as it was beautiful out. We were greeted by someone which mentioned to us that any bar seating was available. There was a section towards the back that was pretty lively. I think it was booked for a group. Instead of the bar area, we asked to sit along the rooftop counter that looks out to the street and building across the street. Way better view and perfect way to spend the afternoon hours. Staff were all pretty sweet and very friendly. Whatever we needed they were they to help. Both the regular menu and happy hour menu were quite impressive. As we just wanted HH, it was given. They had drink special for 10.00 and small bites for 10.00 as well. Didn't hesitate and started off with some drinks. The red sangria with mixed fruits was a nice clean and refreshing treat. Tasteful without that aftertaste. And the Le Pistolet Fumant, a delectable tasty drink with mezcal with a hint of pineapple. And other well drink that was perfect for a nice afternoon. HH drink special was quite tasty to start off. Food wise, started off with an order of the Caesar salad, simple but delicious. Fresh crisp Romaine lettuce and slices of Parmesan and crouton bits. Nice crunch with each bite. The dressing, wow pretty tasty. And an order of the Mac and Cheese . Most places it's either a hit or a miss and let me say it was a HIT. Quite cheesy and full of flavors that a second order was had. A dish I do recommend for HH. We also had an order of the Brussels sprouts which was excellent. A nice glaze and crunchy with chunks of house cured pancetta. Nice big chunks I must say. Lastly the beef sliders with Wagyu beef patties. Honestly, this was the least favorite of the dishes we got. You would think it sounded great but it was quite tasteless and nothing major to report on. Served with brioche bun and shredded lettuce and tomatoes and a lemon aioli. I had high hope for it when I saw the group next to us order it but it was a little disappointing. Overall, the Mac and cheese, Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts were all hits. The sliders, disappointing. Other items on HH didn't look too ingesting for us but it was for other people. The rooftop lounge and bar area was the place to be when we were there. It picked up real fast after we got seated. Picnic style tables being occupied by large groups before HH ended. Just the rooftop alone was great and beautiful. It a place that's good for a drink and meal with friends. Downstairs was beautiful but seemed more of an intimate experience. Overall, it was a great choice for a meal during HH.

The standout was definitely the fries, perfectly crispy from a double fry, topped with fresh herbs and absolutely delicious. Bristy, our server, thoroughly explained the details of certain dishes such as the Mac & Cheetos. She also checked in on our table throughout the meal and came around often to refill our water. As for the food itself, it was very delicious. My favorite dish was the artichokes. They had a somewhat smoky flavor and the outermost leaves were crunchy and a nice contrast to the soft inside of the artichokes. They were also served in a tangy sauce that complimented the vegetable well. My friend's favorite item was the macaroni and cheese. It was chewy and creamy, and the pasta, which Bristy informed us was made in-house, was what my friend thought elevated the dish because it was a nice texture. We additionally ordered the gumbo which was also tasty but not as yummy as the other two dishes that we ordered. It is not a spicy dish if one is concerned about spice level. As for the ambiance of the restaurant, we enjoyed how the atmosphere felt casual and almost like you were sitting in somebody's house (the wallpaper and interior design is pretty) while still maintaining an elegant aesthetic design. If I was in the area, I would return to The Attic for dinner. My friend and I had a very welcoming and positive experience in terms of the service and food respectively at this establishment.

We came on a weekday so getting a table quickly wasn't an issue. Points for the service. The…read morehostess and server were good. The restaurant has multiple parts. There is inside seating what looks like a converted house? There is outside seating at tables or at the bar. The menu was interesting which had a theme of shrimp; there was eggs Benedict with shrimp, but not an item to order a regular one without it? Sure maybe could have ordered and asked without shrimp but pay the same price? Pass. Ok when I called they mentioned they serve brunch until 3? 3:30 I can't remember. The server mentioned they serve the brunch all day? Either way when I got to ordering this month on the menu it highlighted the shrimp po boy. I tried to order and nope, out. How can you be out of the item highlighted as the special in the middle of the day? When the place is not packed? I tried to order the lobster roll and again, out. I was tempted to order their short rib poutine since in theory it sounded good, but at this point I tried something simple I would hope they have in the kitchen chicken and waffles. The plate came and it looks good. If you look at the picture at the bottom of the chicken you can see a dark something. As I lift my chicken I found a huge burnt piece of breading pictured next. On top of the chicken is green onion I think? Who eats that with chicken and waffles? If I am wrong, a garnish is totally unnecessary for this dish. The chicken was moist. There are spices in the flour breading I can see but hard to taste what it is. The waffle is a hard pass for me. The waffle was crispy which is good, but also thin and dry and I couldn't taste any sweetness until I put maple syrup on it. The syrup came out warm which was nice. It's clear watching the people at the bar this is a local hangout. The chicken and waffles were $19 which if I was in the bay I think it's about right, but I think a little high considering the level of food I got. Supposedly this place is packed specifically on Sundays. The server doesn't know why? I'm not interested to even try to come back for a second chance and just be told sold out of the menu.

My husband and I have visited 908 four times before, and unfortunately our past experiences were…read moredisappointing. One visit we waited over 40 minutes without being acknowledged, another time our order came out wrong, and another time the food arrived cold like it had been sitting for quite a while. Because of that, I honestly did not want to come back tonight. But I was craving a good steak, and after my husband suggested giving 908 another try, I reluctantly agreed. I noticed the filet mignon on the menu paired with broccolini and decided to go for it. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt completely different. The hostess was warm and welcoming and seated us immediately. A young man came over right away with waters and took our drink order, which already surprised us in the best way. Then Alex S came to our table, and he truly made the night exceptional. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful in making sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. I mentioned that I didn't want a large piece of butter melting over the steak, and he happily accommodated that request. He even checked on the exact ounce size of the filet for me, which I appreciated. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and honestly, they were the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Perfectly cooked, not drowning in sauce, and absolutely packed with flavor. My 8 oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The broccolini was crisp, fresh, and not overly oily. Everything tasted thoughtful, balanced, and worth every dollar. Most importantly, Alex S delivered spectacular service from start to finish. We were genuinely shocked to learn this was his first night shift because he handled the dining room with professionalism, warmth, and confidence far beyond what we expected. Thank you, Alex S, for completely changing our impression of 908. Tonight's experience was excellent, and for the first time, we are actually excited to come back. Thanks again, Jed Dornoff

The spicy tuna crispy rice dish was my favorite, I came in for the steak salad but then got more tuna with the poke bowl. It was all great and I got a side of spicy mayo and eel sauce. Our server Sergio was amazing very kind, personable and great service! Definitely recommend :) Ambiance was nice too and food came out quickly.
