I absolutely love this place! I have never had bacon melt in my mouth before. I truly can't stop raving and enjoy every time I visit. Although I get annoyed at ordering at the front, I will say they try and speed the process up as much as possible. I've tried quite a few dishes on the menu and still have a few left to experience, but my go to is always something with bacon. The potatoes are cooked perfectly, along with the eggs, and steak (I believe they are cooking sous vide so they turns out perfectly every time) They have outside patio section that is shaded, along with little fans to help in case flies get in the way. It was my first time coming to Zuzu's Petals and I definitely have a lot of thoughts! First, the ambiance and aesthetics are very cute. Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold. I really wanted to support this local business since I live in the neighborhood, but unfortunately my experience hasn't been a positive one. First, the prices are extremely high. I stopped in for a coffee and a side of bacon, and my total was almost $20. For such a simple order, that's hard to justify. I understand food costs have increased, but the pricing feels excessive compared to other local restaurants that serve quality food at much more reasonable prices. My biggest concern, however, is the impact the business has had on our neighborhood. Since Zuzu's Petals opened, we've noticed a significant increase in litter, much of it appearing to be food and drink packaging from the restaurant. Weekend traffic on the sidewalks has become overwhelming, customers often park in alleyways or in unsafe locations, and it has made our neighborhood much more difficult to navigate. We brought these concerns to an employee, but were told there wasn't much they could do. If this business truly wants to be part of the community, I hope they take more responsibility for the impact they're having on the surrounding neighborhood. Encouraging customers to park responsibly, helping keep the area clean, and offering more reasonably priced menu options would go a long way toward building goodwill with the people who actually live here. I always want local businesses to succeed, but right now I can't recommend Zuzu's Petals based on both my experience and the ongoing issues it's created for nearby residents. Also beach cleaning isn't cleaning our neighborhood. That's no support to our neighborhood. Maybe have a neighborhood clean up day instead. read more

This is one of the best brunch places I've ever tried! There was only street parking from what I could tell, but we didn't have to walk too far. My friend and I ordered up front and got to pick our own table. Most of it is self-serve aside from the food, so there was a water station and area to grab extra napkins and utensils as needed. There was outdoor seating so we decided to sit closest to the street for a different vibe! For the food, I got the steak and eggs. I was so blown away! Both the steak and eggs were cooked to perfection. The steak melted in my mouth and tasted so good with the butter sauce! I also loved how crispy the potatoes were and how well everything was seasoned. I'd definitely come back. First time visiting and will not be the last! Whenever I am back in the Long Beach area I will come here for breakfast again. It's located on a corner with tons of parking on the streets near by. There was a line out the door, it moved quick though wait wasn't long. You line up and are handed menus, order & pay at counter. First, a heads-up: parking in the area can be a bit of a challenge, so plan ahead and expect to look for street parking. That said, once you arrive, everything runs impressively smoothly. You'll stand in line to place your order at the register, and then they'll seat you. There are two seating options, an indoor patio and an outdoor patio; both with a really cute, inviting vibe. What really stood out was the thoughtful Mother's Day touch. While we were in line, they offered champagne and gave out roses, white for mothers who are no longer with us and red for those who are. Such a beautiful and meaningful gesture. Once seated, drinks came out quickly, and the food followed shortly after. I had heard about this place from a TikTok video, and my husband had also told me about it, so I knew we had to check it out. We decided to go last minute on a Sunday, so the line was around the building by the time we got there at around 12:30pm. We waited around 30 minutes, but it wasn't bad. We got the steak, eggs scrambled with cheese and potatoes and although sounding quite simple and straight forward every component of this dish was a MASTERCLASS in culinary EXCELLENCE. Even down to the course possibly Maldon salt they sprinkled on the potatoes was CHEFS KISS! The pancakes and bacon that I sampled were spectacular as well. One other drawback was the $9 side of bacon which came in 3 mini pieces or thirds of maybe one long strip. OVERALL we were so impressed by this breakfast that we came back the next day to sample some more but this is where things kinda went SOUTH! The misses ordered Chicken and Waffles and I wanted to steer clear of that because that a dish you can get anywhere. What intrigued me was the BREAKFAST BURRITO because LA folks are ALWAYS ranting and raving about breakfast burrito so I wanted to give it a try. I read the description and saw they used tater tots inside. Now if they were HOUSEMADE tots then sure put it in my burrito but if they were from Krogers, Ralphs, Save A Lot or Aldis then it would be a HARD PASS. I decided to try to reinvent the wheel and asked if I could have the potatoes we adored from their steak and eggs dish from our fist visit into the burrito and they said yes and this is where things went awry. Upon first observation the burrito looked great but upon biting into it there was BARELY, any eggs, meat, or cheese, all I could taste was POTATOES and TORTILLA. This was the most potato forward carb loaded burrito I ever had in my life to the point it was overwhelming and I decided to pick through it and leave all those potatoes and tortilla behind. I believe, but could be wrong but the potatoes from the awesome steak and eggs dish may have been PAR BOILED, smashed, fried, then sprinkled with salt which makes them awesome. In my burrito tho, it tasted like they just boiled them and threw them in the burrito without taking the further steps to make em more tastier before wrapping the burrito. My wife suggested I should've just ordered the burrito AS IS with the tots and it probably would've been awesome. My request for the steak and eggs version of potatoes in my burrito probably did make the burrito worse and I don't blame the cooks, chef, or the restaurant but it was more of MY BAD. Came across this place randomly driving around Long Beach and it was worth the stop. It was after noon so I ordered the smashed burger with tots. They offer patio seating or outside parklet seating. The vibe is a relaxed setting to hang out with family or friends. The decor is retro with the theme from the classic movie 'Its a Wonderful Life' throughout the restaurant. The friendly staff made sure our order was delivered quickly. The burger was cooked to perfection. The tots were nice and crispy on the outside with delicious flavor. Fun neighborhood restaurant. You order at the counter and then THEY find you a table. No worries about saving a table. You did not have to worry about finding a table. They have unique entrees. We ordered the single pancake that 3 inches high and probably 10 inches in diameter. When we cut into it, it was still raw. No worries, they took it back, figured out that the batter was too viscous and did not have enough milk and corrected it and we obviously got a new pancake. Their customer service is the best. While waiting for the new pancake, they gave us a warmed morning muffin on the house. Totally not necessary, but a nice touch by management. The pancake was well worth the wait, crispy outside and fluffy inside.It is made to be shared. Even when we shared it, we had to take the remainder home. Once we got there, we immediately were seated. You just have to come back to order your food. I got the skillet with strawberry pistachio matcha. I got scared before it arrived because someone else had matcha and said they weren't impressed. Once I got mine though, I was impressed. I loved it. My skillet was really good. It got me fulll and I was able to have leftovers. My boyfriend order the burrito and for the price, there was no sides which was a little disappointing but he enjoyed it. Zuzu's Petals has been on my list for quite some time after seeing rave reviews about it on Instagram, and it totally lives up to the hype! I'm not really a breakfast person, but this place definitely converted me because the food and flavor combos were so well done! We got the pear jam matcha latte which was tasty and the perfect amount of sweetness. The pear jam went really well with the matcha! I got the flat iron steak and eggs and they were able to upgrade the side of house potatoes to the crispy smashed potatoes which I was very excited about. I got my eggs sunny side up, and you can see how deeply orange and creamy the yolk is - so good and also had a nice jammy texture! The crispy smashed potatoes were crispy on the outside, perfectly fluffy and tender on the inside, and came with a delicious side of chipotle aioli. Truly every component of this dish was spot on! My partner got the chicken and waffles which came with a blueberry compote, cinnamon pecan butter, and maple syrup. The chicken was super fresh and crispy, and the pairing with the blueberry compote and cinnamon butter on the waffle was the perfect sweet and savory bite! They definitely nailed their take on this popular brunch dish as well. We got there around 11AM and there was a small line but it moved fast. You order at the counter first, and I thought it was a very nice touch that the servers assist with finding tables after you order. Most places you just struggle to look for a table after ordering - so the service is very thoughtful! The owner is also out and about making sure things are running smoothly - refilling the water station and to go boxes and interacting with customers as well! The ambiance is lovely. I enjoyed the two red roses in a vase at each table. The menu options are varied and all look delicious. I got the breakfast skillet with the turkey sausage, delightful. My partner got the fried chicken and waffles with the amazing berry compote and cinnamon crème fraîche was *chef's kiss.* The servers were all great (and hot) we had a perfect lunch. This place has been voted a top place to eat by fellow Yelpers. The word is out-- this place is a trusted and delectable brunch eatery. With that being said, the question becomes why write a review for a place that not only has street clout but also is a darling for foodies? First, any place or person cannot rely on their august reputation to coast to their golden years, especially in a glut like LA's dining scene. An eatery must always maintain itself with current times and update its eats and design/vibe to remain competitive lest their sheen and luster fade. And thus, I add to the rose petals thrown at this place's feet but also challenge their aesthetic because I found it a bit disjointed--- like a ruby red rose whose stem is made out bark and twig. I had only heard good things about this place and decided to try it with my friend Alexa. She and I had agreed to meet there at 11:00 but I know enough about brunch experiences at celebrated places to go there early or else we might endure a wait that kills a good time. Yes, I would wait for the both us to avoid this possible pitfall. I waited 45 minutes in the line to order. By the time I got close to the register, Alexa arrived. We decided to split the chicken and waffles and also the skillet. She wanted to find a table, but I explained to her that there was a sign I saw as I waited that explained that patrons should not to find their own tables, staff will help them find one. We also got the smashed potatoes and each of us got a coffee. When I was there, waiting, I enjoyed seeing the emblems in red. For instance, I clipped the red door that I passed to get into the joint. It was the threshold that moved me from a line waiter to near customer. And thus this shade of red becomes that much more precious. The rose red was more pronounced and literal in some of the exterior walls of the joint. I clipped a rose silhouette that was precious, and kind of defining of the motif of the place. But it also had mentions of the movie of its a wonderful life. For example, before I got to the cashier I saw the phrase, "every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings." In back of me there were several photos from the film. Now, I have never seen the flick so perhaps roses are predominant in the movie. One of the staff members said that Zuzu was the dog in the film. To make it abundantly clear, I am not sure how red roses connect to a Yuletide favorite. Perhaps the answer lies in the film. But for me on this day, the two primary anchors of design were in competition and not not in cohesion. Perhaps, if the red roses were winter blue the connecting tissue would be easier to understand. The food was strong and easy to enjoy. What surprised me is that I expected to enjoy the waffle and chicken plate more than than skillet but I enjoyed the latter more. The skillet had those fluffy eggs that are made with milk or cream or bliss from a bovine. Now true, there is not much complexity in the dish, but the dish was something basic done extremely well, which is a prize to the patrons. I guess atop of all I could write would be that the skillet had familiar flavors- like cheese, and sausage, and garnish- but elevated to delicious comfort. The waffle and chicken plate was made scrumptious by the maple butter. By the time I got to the chicken and waffle the chicken had lost its fried crisp. The flavor of the batter was there 1000% but without the fried taste the chicken suffered. It was my fault. I did not wait for my food, my food waited for me and in that span of time it had lost its umph! like many do when they wait too long for someone they anticipate. The mashed potatoes were also an excellent bite. Again, familiar, not innovative, but a strong showing of a classic. I particularly loved the well balanced execution of fluff inside and the crisp of the potatoe outside. The smash in this plate was a solid yum. Alexa and I sat outside, right next to the patio, and enjoyed all of the dishes to a good extent. This place definetely offers great classics, with some modern touches. It is an easy answer to where should we go to brunch on a lazy Sunday when you have time to spare. read more

I enjoyed the best hot ceremonial matcha tea ever! Zuzu's has a wonderful variety of hot and cold seasonal and traditional drinks. The Dutch baby pancake is considered a small plate, but it was the right amount of food for me! The fresh pieces of fruit and light syrup on top of the lightly crisp Dutch baby pancake was delicious! The Bailey's comes with a choice of bacon and sausage or two bacons/two sausages, two eggs, two pieces of bread from Nonna's, and lightly seasoned and crispy potatoes. If I ordered this again, I would order two pieces of bacon. Ample outdoor covered seating, friendly and helpful service, and so many food options! Everyone seemed happy to work here, and we felt welcomed as soon as we got here. Street parking can be a challenge, but don't let that stop you; it is worth it! Such a cute little place with amazing food! We got the lobster omelette, breakfast burrito, Dutch baby pancake and kids cheeseburger. Everything was delicious but I want to especially say that the lobster omelette was divine--so buttery and rich, it was the best omelette I ever had. There is a wait, which might make your little ones frustrated like it did mine, but I'm so happy we stayed and got to try this gem of a place. Definitely coming back! read more

I had my eye on this place for lil bit and decided to try it because of the word around town Says it's the best brunch in Lbc. We'll let me tell you. Service is fast and friendly, you order your food choices then you'll be seated. Get here early because the line gets long and will continue to have lil rushes throughout the morning. The patio area is very nice to sit the ambiance is pretty cool with writing on the wall. And plants and shaded area to sit up front as well. Back to the food, omg the breakfast burrito with everything is bomb .Probably one of the best I've had. So it's true about the food here. Also had the Chicken and waffles. I've been wanting to try this spot for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally did! I came by yesterday around 10:30am and placed my order around 10:50. The way it works is you order first, then wait for them to seat you once a table opens up. It was super busy, so there was a bit of standing around while waiting for a table. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of that setup, but honestly...the food made it completely worth it. What we ordered: * Almond croissant * Ube cruffin * Lemon ricotta pancakes * Breakfast burrito with bacon * Side of potatoes * Strawberry pistachio matcha * Cinnagave shaken espresso Everything was absolutely incredible. I'm seriously craving it again while writing this The food was amazing, and the drinks were next-level good. The café itself is adorable, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Also, shoutout to the sweet woman with the star clips in her hair! She was so friendly, and my niece loved that she complimented the Jigglypuff on her water bottle. I'll definitely be coming back.
