My favorite things here, were the chips, salsa and guacamole. The food itself is a bit too technical! Meaning, they are adding way too many extras to try and make it different. Remember that old saying, Less is more! Try a more simple approach, so people aren't scraping ingredients off their food. I went to Nick's on 2nd for lunch with family that came up from San Diego for a day visit. I have been to Nick's a few times and the food always hits the mark! I have never had a bad meal here. Today I had Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni and asked for blackened chicken on the side (we love protein ). It was so fresh, creamy, and cheesy with some Parmesan on top. I usually have the chicken piccata but decided to try this dish today. We also decided on butter cake for a sweet treat after our meal. Our waiter mentioned a lemon cake so of course we had to try that as well. The lemon cake was HUGE! And incredibly delicious. I am not sure if it is a regular menu item but if they mention it while you're there, it is so worth the try! The restaurant can get a little noisy inside but it's manageable. It is always very clean and the staff is really great at taking care of their customers. I would definitely recommend this spot for lunch, dinner, or even just some drinks at the bar. read more

I thought the staff was a little robotic but they were helpful and attentive. Everyone's food was delicious and filling! I had the fried chicken sammich with fries that were cooked perfectly!! Truly exceptional! Nick's is somehow elegant, casual, and fresh all at once. The food never disappoints and the staff is always on the ball. The food is so good, that I always feel fomo about the items I didn't order! I make a point to eat at Nick's whenever I'm near one of their locations. Great Mixologist on staff, the martinis were consistent and "on point". Definitely recommend and encourage a reservation - place was at capacity. While it can obviously get a little loud, we opted for an outside table. In hindsight if conversation is center stage, perhaps inside despite the crowd may have been a better choice - as the roadside noise in Long Beach is not for the faint of heart. Ending with service. Nick's on 2nd is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Belmont Shore. Everything I've tried here has been a solid 10/10. The food is consistently delicious and you can tell a lot of attention goes into every dish. One thing that always stands out is the plating. the presentation is spectacular and makes the whole dining experience feel elevated. The service is also consistently great, which is a big reason I keep coming back. If you're dining alone, the bar seating is perfect and comfortable, and they also have a nice outdoor patio if you prefer sitting outside. Just keep in mind that parking in the area is street parking only, which is pretty typical for Belmont Shore. My only wish is that they had a brunch menu because this would absolutely be a go-to brunch spot for me. We came here last night for a date and unfortunately left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. When we walked in, the hosts didn't greet us and simply stared at us before attempting to seat us toward the back of the restaurant, despite other tables being available. When we asked to sit on the patio, they seemed awkward and reluctant about the request. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. Our waiter was rude and dismissive toward my partner, which made the experience particularly uncomfortable. We are also an interracial couple, so the way we were treated was difficult to process. I can't say with certainty what anyone's intentions were, but being made to feel singled out from the moment we walked in naturally left us wondering whether we were being treated differently. After reading the Google reviews afterward, it was disappointing to see that we weren't the only ones who have felt singled out or unwelcome at this location. I hope management takes these experiences seriously and reflects on how guests are being treated. read more

The parking is like any other metro city...street or parking garage. It's got lots of different shops and restaurants nearby. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. The server was very nice and friendly. She was helpful with selecting options from their menu. We landed on the fried chicken, prime rib dip and the shrimp taquitos. The chicken was crisp, juicy and flavorful. It came with mashed potatoes, biscuit and gravy. The prime rib dip was also good. The bread was notably fresh and soft. The shrimp taquitos were ok. I have been here one time before. And they have great food. However this time it went wrong. I know they were busy but we were seated outside and the waiters took our unused chairs even though they had other tables to take them from. So we ended up with not being able to put our stuff on the chairs but on the table. And we intentionally ordered food with no garlic and there was still garlic on it. We explained to the hostess and she said that it is a special recipe and they don't list all the ingredients....however yes you list if there is garlic in the food and it was a lot. Overall they have a nice ambiance but ending up sitting outside feeling down prioritized with left over food on the floor wasn't pleasant. First time ever! Went April 7th with a couple of gal pals. As you walk in you get a sense of warmth. Is a cozy lil spot with a calm atmosphere decorated nicely . The hosts and servers were professional and nice . They weren't overly friendly just doing their job . Recommendations are always great imo. Had an absolutely wonderful weekend brunch here with my husband to celebrate a special occasion. Because we booked a reservation in advance, we were seated right away. The staff member who showed us to our table was really friendly and welcoming. As a starter, we had the spinach & artichoke dip. I love that the tortilla chips were crunchy, fresh, and warm. The dip was baked with aged cheddar cheese - super delicious and appetizing. Also worth noting is the side of sour cream and salsa, which was great to have alongside everything else. When we finished the chips, we still had half of the dip left, so our server offered us more chips at no extra charge. This was very generous. For the main course, we ordered 2 of their house specialties. And wow, the portions of both these dishes were enormous. The chicken piccata had a thin, tasty panko crust. It was the perfect ratio of protein to panko coating, creating just the right texture contrast. A tangy, mouthwatering lemon caper sauce was poured over the chicken. On the side was whipped potatoes and a small peppery arugula & tomato salad. Every ingredient complemented each other very well. I was even more impressed with the baby back pork ribs. These beer braised ribs were super tender and easily slid right off the bone. It tasted so indulgent with their house bbq sauce. Due to the richness of the sauce, my husband and I were quickly fulfilled after eating just a couple of bites. Some crispy french fries and a yummy petite bistro salad were served on the side. The salad definitely helped balance out our meal so that it did not feel too heavy. To end things off, we received a warm, gooey chocolate cake with a candle. This was a magnificent way to acknowledge our special day. I would highly recommend this restaurant for an upscale lunch or dinner. The ambiance is lively, elegant, and modern. While we were eating they prematurely took our plates and asked us several times whether we were still working on our meals, which made it feel a little rushed. First off, I was excited to try this spot based on other reviews. However when we got there we were added to a waitlist and it took about an hour to get off of this waitlist. We got the cha cha's pasta rigatoni. Which was priced @ $25. We ordered a side of chicken when I asked what meats they had and the prices, the waitress pointed at the top of the menu which showed the chicken priced @ $8 (by the salads). We decided to get the chicken for our pasta plate. Our experience did not meet up to par with the hype of this place. They brought out the pasta and the chicken on the side. Pasta was good and generous portion we were able to share it between 2. The chicken was over seasoned and was not our fave. When we got there I immediately told the waitress we came to celebrate my friend's birthday and when we finished eating we were brought the chocolate cake. The cake was on the house but honestly it was a bit dry. When we were brought the tab we noticed we were charged $40 for the pasta and the chicken. When we inquired about the charges, we were told that the chicken is a special kind of cut and that's why it was $15. I'm sorry but $15 for two pieces of thin chicken is a bit ridiculous especially given this chicken was over seasoned. We asked our waitress if there was a way to refund it since she had pointed to the menu that said the chicken was $8 and she said that the chicken actually was not $8 and asked if she could get us something else. We responded that we really didn't want anything else. Then she mentioned that she had already charged the card and I asked if there was a way they could just refund it. She said she would have to ask the manager and I told her to please do so. Eventually the manager came and told us it was a misunderstanding but that he would refund us the money. We were refunded the $7 and we were told today that it would take a few days to refund. I think the lack of transparency is a bit frustrating if the chicken for a pasta dinner is $15 and not $8 it should be told to the customer. Quite frankly the most frustrating aspect was the fact that we were told that the card was already charged when we were asking for a refund. The overall spot is a bit upscale, there is a huge bar in the middle and prices are reasonable. However given our experience I wouldn't be back. read more

Cocktails, we started with a Cucumber Collins (my favorite) and Belevedere Vodka martinis for the boys! Martinis were very cold, as they should be! Cucumber Collins was light and delicious. I don't often get cocktails when we go out but certain places that do them right, I certainly do! Nick's is known for its cocktail program. Appetizers, we started with Deviled Eggs and Asparagus Fries! Both, as always, were excellent! I personally don't eat Deviled Eggs but I do at Nicks. Battered and fried, so good! Entrees, we all ordered our usuals! My husband gets the Bistro Plate, Petite Filet with salad and soup. He always raves about the filet, small but mighty! The soup was roasted red bell pepper and he stated best soup he has had! Both my son and I get the Prime Rib Beef Dip. Best Beef Dip around! Both he and I left with halves to enjoy for lunch another day! Generous portions of meat and their brioche buns are great! Dessert, Warm Butter Cake service with ice cream and a berry compote. Definitely our most favorite dessert anywhere. I have traveled all over the US, and this still remains my favorite dessert. Just amazing! In addition, they served a chocolate cake with a lighted candle for my birthday! We were here on a Monday night (with reservations) and it was packed. When we left, there was a long wait. We dined at nicks last night for birthday dinner. The dinner and service were both great. Our server was training and still did an amazing job. Training can be a little hectic some times when you're in the service industry and sometimes it can slow service down. Our server Ben was on it. We had the grilled artichoke, chicken piccata, and the cioppino. All very very delightful. During our dining experience I needed to use the restroom. The smell in their bathroom was amazing. Probably one of the best smelling restrooms I had ever. When I was leaving, I politely ask the hostess if she knew what the name of the smell was bc it was so awesome. She wasn't telling me the exact name. She essentially told me the essence. While in the middle of her talking, a female manager aggressively told us that they were not aloud to tell patrons the scent. Hey, I get it, but as a person who was a manager for one of the highest ranking upscale casual dining restaurants, who has worked in 5 star resorts, knowing how to provide kindness to both guests and staff, this manager did not present those skills. This manager was quite frankly disrespectful not only to her staff, but to me. There is a way to handle situations without embarrassing your staff member and making them feel small and showcasing your flex of power to a diner who was about to drop hundreds for a dinner in our volatile economy. This manager did NOT handle this appropriately. Like i said, she was rude, extremely aggressive to respond, and not once smiled and said, "I'm so glad you love it. It's our secret to get you to come back." She did try to say it was a secret, but seriously... with the way she treated her staff.... I think she better focus on hospitality rather than the scent in the bathroom. After this interaction, I actually watched and observed the manager during the remaining time of our dinner. I wanted to see how she interacted with her staff. I wanted to see if she knew how to manage without flexing on her staff bc obviously she doesn't know that words matter and what you say and how you say it can make or break your staff's entire night which can reflect on how they treat their guests. I get this is lengthy over a restroom scent, but as a person who thrives on seeing the beauty in how a management team can make a huge impact on the success of a company, if she's openly rude and aggressive to me and her hostess, how is she with the rest of the staff and guests? Just a little food for thought. I will say, that interaction totally changed my view for the remaining time of our dinner. I truly hope that the female manager who was working last night June 1 reads this and changes the way she handles situations. From what I saw and experienced, she needs to take a step back and regroup. She needs to be retrained on how to treat her staff, how to smile with kindness, and how to kindly make a joke about the scent kindly with laughter rather than an attack on her staff. To the hostess: I'm sorry you had to be treated that way. You were incredibly kind from upon greeting us even to the very end. You're awesome. I'll return back, but I do hope next time, the manager from last night is on a better wave length as the people who help create her position.
