Tonight, I ordered the halibut and enjoyed a martini at the bar, and everything was exceptional. My bartender, Ben, was attentive, personable, and made an excellent recommendation. He struck the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality, which made the experience even better. I also want to recognize Ethan, who brought out my food. Ethan was incredibly hospitable and thoughtful from start to finish. He complimented my order choice, made sure I had everything I needed, and even circled back after I had taken a few bites to make sure I was enjoying my meal. Nick's on 2nd is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Belmont Shore. Everything I've tried here has been a solid 10/10. The food is consistently delicious and you can tell a lot of attention goes into every dish. One thing that always stands out is the plating. the presentation is spectacular and makes the whole dining experience feel elevated. The service is also consistently great, which is a big reason I keep coming back. If you're dining alone, the bar seating is perfect and comfortable, and they also have a nice outdoor patio if you prefer sitting outside. Just keep in mind that parking in the area is street parking only, which is pretty typical for Belmont Shore. My only wish is that they had a brunch menu because this would absolutely be a go-to brunch spot for me. I have been here one time before. And they have great food. However this time it went wrong. I know they were busy but we were seated outside and the waiters took our unused chairs even though they had other tables to take them from. So we ended up with not being able to put our stuff on the chairs but on the table. And we intentionally ordered food with no garlic and there was still garlic on it. We explained to the hostess and she said that it is a special recipe and they don't list all the ingredients....however yes you list if there is garlic in the food and it was a lot. Overall they have a nice ambiance but ending up sitting outside feeling down prioritized with left over food on the floor wasn't pleasant. First time ever! Went April 7th with a couple of gal pals. As you walk in you get a sense of warmth. Is a cozy lil spot with a calm atmosphere decorated nicely . The hosts and servers were professional and nice . They weren't overly friendly just doing their job . Recommendations are always great imo. None given for a first timer however , everything we did order was delish including drinks . I got the coconut margarita which I wanted a ton more of . I love Nick's so when a friend invited me to go out to Long Beach, I recommended this location. This one is in the heart of Belmont Shores. The parking is like any other metro city...street or parking garage. It's got lots of different shops and restaurants nearby. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. The server was very nice and friendly. She was helpful with selecting options from their menu. We landed on the fried chicken, prime rib dip and the shrimp taquitos. The chicken was crisp, juicy and flavorful. It came with mashed potatoes, biscuit and gravy. The prime rib dip was also good. The bread was notably fresh and soft. The shrimp taquitos were ok. Our table also ordered the top sirloin with a loaded baked potato and asparagus, as well as the Buttermilk Fried Chicken. All three were extremely well done dishes. Had an absolutely wonderful weekend brunch here with my husband to celebrate a special occasion. Because we booked a reservation in advance, we were seated right away. The staff member who showed us to our table was really friendly and welcoming. As a starter, we had the spinach & artichoke dip. I love that the tortilla chips were crunchy, fresh, and warm. The dip was baked with aged cheddar cheese - super delicious and appetizing. Also worth noting is the side of sour cream and salsa, which was great to have alongside everything else. When we finished the chips, we still had half of the dip left, so our server offered us more chips at no extra charge. This was very generous. For the main course, we ordered 2 of their house specialties. And wow, the portions of both these dishes were enormous. The chicken piccata had a thin, tasty panko crust. It was the perfect ratio of protein to panko coating, creating just the right texture contrast. A tangy, mouthwatering lemon caper sauce was poured over the chicken. On the side was whipped potatoes and a small peppery arugula & tomato salad. Every ingredient complemented each other very well. I was even more impressed with the baby back pork ribs. These beer braised ribs were super tender and easily slid right off the bone. It tasted so indulgent with their house bbq sauce. Due to the richness of the sauce, my husband and I were quickly fulfilled after eating just a couple of bites. Some crispy french fries and a yummy petite bistro salad were served on the side. The salad definitely helped balance out our meal so that it did not feel too heavy. To end things off, we received a warm, gooey chocolate cake with a candle. This was a magnificent way to acknowledge our special day. I would highly recommend this restaurant for an upscale lunch or dinner. The ambiance is lively, elegant, and modern. We ordered: Bacon deviled eggs Tuna Tartare Spinach and Artichoke Dip (guilty pleasure!) Kale and Quinoa Salad Chilean Sea Bass Aged Sirloin Spicy Rigatoni Dessert: Butter cake - this was so good and indulgent. I loved the little crispy edges I went for a birthday dinner and I called ahead of time to confirm the reservation and also request towel service to surprise the bday boy with a little special touch, but this was never provided. While we were eating they prematurely took our plates and asked us several times whether we were still working on our meals, which made it feel a little rushed. It was also a little off-putting when they gave us dessert and got our check shortly after, and while we were still finishing dessert, I got asked if I provided my signature yet. I understand if folks are closing out their shifts (which Im guessing is what was happening) but appreciate when they explain this or acknowledge it when they need to ask for the signed check sooner. read more

First off, I was excited to try this spot based on other reviews. However when we got there we were added to a waitlist and it took about an hour to get off of this waitlist. We got the cha cha's pasta rigatoni. Which was priced @ $25. We ordered a side of chicken when I asked what meats they had and the prices, the waitress pointed at the top of the menu which showed the chicken priced @ $8 (by the salads). We decided to get the chicken for our pasta plate. Our experience did not meet up to par with the hype of this place. They brought out the pasta and the chicken on the side. Pasta was good and generous portion we were able to share it between 2. The chicken was over seasoned and was not our fave. When we got there I immediately told the waitress we came to celebrate my friend's birthday and when we finished eating we were brought the chocolate cake. The cake was on the house but honestly it was a bit dry. When we were brought the tab we noticed we were charged $40 for the pasta and the chicken. When we inquired about the charges, we were told that the chicken is a special kind of cut and that's why it was $15. I'm sorry but $15 for two pieces of thin chicken is a bit ridiculous especially given this chicken was over seasoned. We asked our waitress if there was a way to refund it since she had pointed to the menu that said the chicken was $8 and she said that the chicken actually was not $8 and asked if she could get us something else. We responded that we really didn't want anything else. Then she mentioned that she had already charged the card and I asked if there was a way they could just refund it. She said she would have to ask the manager and I told her to please do so. Eventually the manager came and told us it was a misunderstanding but that he would refund us the money. We were refunded the $7 and we were told today that it would take a few days to refund. I think the lack of transparency is a bit frustrating if the chicken for a pasta dinner is $15 and not $8 it should be told to the customer. Quite frankly the most frustrating aspect was the fact that we were told that the card was already charged when we were asking for a refund. The overall spot is a bit upscale, there is a huge bar in the middle and prices are reasonable. However given our experience I wouldn't be back. read more

I took a friend to Nick's on 2nd for her birthday. She picked Nick's because of their espresso martini reputation-great call! We sat outside on a beautiful day. We got the bistro salad and shared it. It was so good, I thought if you put a few grilled or blackened shrimp on it, it could be a meal for me. So so good. We shared a mahi sandwich and fries. Sandwich, fries, salad, espresso martini-that sounds like an excellent Girl Lunch, and it was. I forgot the name of our server, but she was great! The manager stopped by to say hi and she was so personable and nice. She suggested the butter cake for dessert and most of it had to come home with me because 1) we were nearly full, and 2) it was so buttery and rich I needed to have some later in the day. We went at 11 on a holiday Monday and when we looked up, the place was packed and there was a line waiting out front. Yes, it's pricey, but yes it's amazing and wonderful for a special lunch. I know why everyone raves about Nick's! Our daughter mentioned how good it is and she moved from Long Beach about 8 years ago. Nick's has been amazing for a long, long time. read more

As much as I appreciate the mixed bag of Belmont shore, I did not know fine dining was an option. Nick's definitely met the mark, with a special commendation to the service staff, who were impeccably professional, including Cristina, who took excellent care of us. In fact, I followed her suggestion to have the veggie burger with Gruyère cheese and grilled onions. The burger was delicious and the veggie patty is made with real veggies. The side of spicy broccoli was interesting although was a bit too Al dente for me. My friend enjoyed the aged top sirloin. We were perhaps too disciplined and did not partake in dessert, although the choices were very tempting. Respectable classic cocktail and wine list. Food 10/10 The service from our specific server is the reason we will not return. When we first arrived we ordered drinks right away. Both my sisters ordered the Oaxacan old fashioned and I ordered a glass of wine. When the drinks came out, they were all great. I decided to hold my wine until my steak came out. (We hadn't ordered any food yet.) I decided to also enjoy a Oaxacan old fashioned before my meal. It was delicious. I asked Ben our server & he said No. We all thought he was joking tbh. He said, he couldn't serve me two drinks. I had to finish my wine. I let him know I was going to hold it and have it with my steak dinner. He still said no, & didn't offer any other options or suggestions. I felt very uncomfortable & didn't understand why? I just accepted that he denied me from getting the cocktail. Then later when we ordered our entree's I requested for a substitution & I was also told no. Even though I didn't mind the price change. Nor was I given that option. I ended up going with double salad which worked out. I was really surprised & disappointed that I was not able to order more drinks & make substitutions. I'd understand if I was intoxicated but that wasn't the case. This experience left me & my family with a bad taste of disappointment & will not be returning to Nicks on 2nd unfortunately. Cocktails, we started with a Cucumber Collins (my favorite) and Belevedere Vodka martinis for the boys! Martinis were very cold, as they should be! Cucumber Collins was light and delicious. I don't often get cocktails when we go out but certain places that do them right, I certainly do! Nick's is known for its cocktail program. Appetizers, we started with Deviled Eggs and Asparagus Fries! Both, as always, were excellent! I personally don't eat Deviled Eggs but I do at Nicks. Battered and fried, so good! Entrees, we all ordered our usuals! My husband gets the Bistro Plate, Petite Filet with salad and soup. He always raves about the filet, small but mighty! The soup was roasted red bell pepper and he stated best soup he has had! Both my son and I get the Prime Rib Beef Dip. Best Beef Dip around! Both he and I left with halves to enjoy for lunch another day! Generous portions of meat and their brioche buns are great! Dessert, Warm Butter Cake service with ice cream and a berry compote. Definitely our most favorite dessert anywhere. I have traveled all over the US, and this still remains my favorite dessert. Just amazing! In addition, they served a chocolate cake with a lighted candle for my birthday! We were here on a Monday night (with reservations) and it was packed. When we left, there was a long wait. None of the other places close by appeared busy. I will say Nick's has a great business model. They keep their menus limited, but great offerings. They have expanded to other areas as well. Came here with a friend this past Friday. Lots of people in the area recommended Nick's for lunch as we toured the 2nd street shops. We got there right at 11 am when they opened. Very cool looking restaurant with mostly outdoor dinning. They have a large bar area and indoor seating as well on high chairs. Our waiter was Sebastian and was a very nice young man. He helped us go over some of the menu items and also gave us some directions on how to get to the downtown area, and aquarium etc. We ordered the Prime Rib sandwich and the chicken sandwich. We both got fries and iced teas. The chicken was a buttermilk sandwich sliced into thirds, and came with lots of condiments and I believe havarti cheese. It was very good and a huge portion. We had a free night in Long Beach on a Friday night with nowhere to dine, and Nick's was recommended to us. So we arrived here, and proceeded to be enchanted with a fine repast. I opened with bright red chunks of Tuna Tartare with crisp wontons. More wontons were presented on request; they went nicely with the tasty Deviled Eggs I also ordered. And, a bowl of Clam Chowder that was thick rather than runny, and crammed with potatoes and clams, was another welcome starter. Then for my main I was pleased to receive a large portion of rich orange-hued Scottish Salmon alongside flavorful Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Spinach. Diane was just as delighted with her large hunk of golden Chilean Seabass with a double order of Mashed Potatoes. This restaurant's reputation for outstanding seafood is clearly deserved. Parking can be a bit tricky as you can do some street parking with pay meters, park on residential street (free), or park in lots that are mostly paid parking. Spinach & Artichoke Dip - Our starter dish, very plentiful in dips and chips, this was the perfect dish to start but we felt like we were very fulfilled just with the starter dish. Our server offered extra chips/nachos to refill which was a kind gesture, very well made, great balance of flavors between the salsa, artichoke, and cheese dip. Highly recommend to get as a shareable dish. 2. Baby Back Pork Ribs - Holy moly, the portion for this dish is massive, the pork ribs came off the bone very easily, super juicy, and it came with a side of fries and salad which was a plus to the dish. 3. Chicken Piccata - Similar to the pork ribs, this dish is massive, a large amount of portions. Came with mash potatoes which I'm not really a fan of usually, but this set of mash potatoes was very savory and melts in mouth very easily, super delicious. Chicken is very well made, juicy, and easily cut. Highly recommend. Overall, this is a amazing restaurant, we were gifted a complimentary/celebratory dessert as well for our special occasion which was very generous.
