Not sure if they had like their own breading or something?...but they were sooooo crunchy on the outside and incredible soft on the inside. And the cheese sauce on the old bay fries wasn't your cheap nacho cheese; it was thick and had a creamy flavor that KILLED it. Their wings were also very crunchy, as were the calamari fries. I especially loved how the calamari was not minced, as I thought it would be so that it could be formed into a fry shape. I think the theme here is crunch. The restaurant is located in a sketchy shopping center with drug-crazed lunatics constantly pacing back-and-forth and peering through the windows. The store was empty when I went, so I asked the cashier for recommendations. Asking her questions and recommendations was SO painful. She definitely did not want to be there talking to me. Lobster Guys is located in Long Beach and it's a casual spot for lobster rolls, lobster bisque, and grilled seafood. They've recently expanded to open locations in Fountain Valley and Buena Park. What's cool is that they're one of the only spots in the area to offer seafood served like this. For $30, you could get a lobster roll and fries. They have a generous rewards program, so I was able to get a drink with my meal without an additional cost. You could get your lobster rolls hot (Connecticut Style) or cold (Maine style). I opted to get it Maine style, which is basically a lobster salad dressed in old bay and lemon herb aioli over perfectly toasted bread. For $30, I think that this is a good deal and I think that they have really enticing options. I want to come back to try their fish and chips, grilled lobster and shrimp, lobster bisque and clam chowder. The thing is this: because lobster rolls are pretty straightforward, you taste all of the components and if one thing is slightly off, then you can tell. In my case, I loved the lemon aioli and that they provided a fresh lemon to amp up the acidity. I loved the cajun seasoning on the fries. I liked the fresh spring onions sprinkled on the top of the roll. I really enjoyed the perfect toast on the bread. The cook on the lobster was a tad over and it was a little chewy; however, I still enjoyed being able to have a lobster roll for a weekday work lunch for an affordable price. When I come back, I'd probably like to get it Connecticut Style (warm and buttered up). I'd also order it ahead as the food is made to order and it took 20 minutes for the sandwich to be prepared. You can order ahead through the Toast app. I also appreciate their generous rewards program. I think that, if I take advantage of it, then I could try new items with every other visit! The neighborhood and mini mall appeared questionable, but once we were inside it was awesome. The restaurant was clean and the service was so friendly. They helped us order and explained the dishes.
