    Garlic Shrimp
    Ceecee T.

The food was absolutely delicious and 100% worth the hype. Everything we tried was packed with flavor, but I'm still thinking about the garlic shrimp... seriously THAT good. Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and just one of those dishes you keep craving after you leave. The whole experience lived up to what everyone says--great food, great vibes, and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to when I'm in Long Beach again.

This place is a literal shack. No indoor seating but the food is cooked with so much flavor. You walk up to the window where you are greeted and they take your order. Menu is pretty straight forward. They have a decent sized patio you can eat at. I'll definitely be back

Last time I was here I had the fried rice which was phenomenal! I was tempted to get it again today but I wanted to try something different. I opted for stir fried noodles with no sausage and the salt and pepper wings. They were packaged nicely for transporting home but I had to take a quick bite before the ride home. The noodles were delicious and chicken was nice and tender. The wings were crispy and tasted great even without dipping it in the accompanying sauce on the side. The lady at the window was super friendly and answered my questions. Small outdoor patio is nice and casual on a beautiful day like today. Definitely a hidden gem of the city! Drive by too fast you'll miss it!

I ordered the Grilled Beef sticks, and honestly, it was very nostalgic for me as this is a Cambodian Cuisine Staple. The service was quick, we called to order about 15 mins before arriving and it was ready when we got there to order takeout. It is a tiny shack located in Long Beach with a small lot, very cute spot and not very big. I want to come and support their business more, they seem like a very sweet small business.

My friends and I came here after a day at Anime Los Angeles. There's only outdoor seating so you're going to have to eat in your car or sneak into the nearby McDonald's if it's super windy and cold outside. The food came out decently quickly enough and we hauled ass to run away from the cold afterwards. Unfortunately, a lot of the more unique things that we wanted to order off of the menu was sold out, so that was a bit disappointing. We got the: 1) Fried Whole Squid: -Always see these offered at night markets and you don't usually see it offered at restaurants so we ordered this. Comes with lime and their house sauces. -Tentacles were hard and chewy. Overall this was a bit too dry and chewy even with the sauces. Not like the quality fried squid that I've had elsewhere with the moister meat on the inside. 2) Beef sticks on rice: -Comes with 2 large skewers with lemon grass marinated grilled beef served with steamed rice, pickled papaya, and garnished with cilantro and green onion. -Probably the best of what we ordered. Moist and deliciously sauced beef. Went great with the rice. Pickled papaya was a unique addition to it too. 3) Stir Fried noodles: -Flat rice noodles tossed with chicken, shrimp, Chinese sausage, eggs, onions, Chinese broccoli and carrots. -It was more veggies than anything. Not that many noodles and the meat was all dry outside of the Chinese sausage. I took some bites of this and was done. Took the rest back to feed my dad who had to cook extra protein to go with this. 4) Spring Rolls: -Made with mint, lettuce, shrimp, pork belly, cucumber and bean sprout with all of the sauces. -The most disappointing of everything that we ordered. -All the meat inside was super dry, making the entire spring roll even drier than it already was, even with dousing it with sauce. Literally you can get better spring rolls at BMC. That's bad. 5) Thai Tea: -Decent fast food level Thai tea. Sweet pick me up if you need it. All we wanted was to try the Khmer sausage but completely sold out for the night. Food was mid and a bit disappointing to all of us to the point where we ordered extra McD's where we were camping in.

Whenever I'm in the mood for seriously good fast food one of my top go to restaurant spots always includes A & J Seafood Shack. Located on a busy street in downtown Long Beach with off street parking and very limited on site parking. A true mom and pop with owners who make consistently good food, food soo tasty and I come back again and again as a customer over 12 years. Today's order is very much the same as the last I want and have been craving garlic shrimp and salt and pepper fried chicken. It's a hot day in California I need this food and a visit to the beach after to walk off the calories. My order. Garlic Shrimp Seasoned to perfection sautéed with garlic herbs and spices with a nice spicy kick served with steamed rice pickled cabbage & papaya salad it's very good. 10/10 in my opinion. Salt & Pepper Wings Seasoned lightly and fried crispy with a crunch that makes me want more tossed with shallots and sliced jalapeños and sweet chili sauce. I order extra shallots and jalapeno peppers it's that good. 10/10 Be sure to ask them to fry your wings extra crispy golden brown. I highly recommend you visit they have much more seafood on the menu the stir fry crab and lobster is absolutely amazing. Just me Shawn C. What We Ordered: -Grilled Beef Sticks $16.00 -Garlic Shrimp $16.00 We ordered two of their most popular dishes. I tried the garlic shrimp, and while I enjoy garlic, I found the sauce a bit too sweet and garlicky for my taste. My wife, who doesn't like shrimp, actually loved the sauce and finished it with the rice. I also tried the grilled beef sticks, which were excellent, and I would definitely order them again, perhaps as a sandwich next time. Overall, I would be open to trying other dishes if we return, but I wouldn't order the garlic shrimp again.

This little take out spot has one of the best shrimp dishes in all of So Cal! I've heard that they had garlic shrimp just like from Hawaii. I've never been to Hawaii but we were going to Queen Mary Dark Harbor so we thought to try it. What a treat this was, one of the best meals we also had the beef stick sandwich and the salt and pepper wings. Everything was amazing with a generous portion of food! Definitely will come back for the shrimp and try their other great dishes!

I found this place on Yelp while I was in the area and based on the reviews I wanted to give it a try. I was the first person to order this day and the girl that helped me was super friendly and efficient. I ordered their garlic shrimp plate because others have mentioned it's like the ones in Hawaii. It is not. It's is 'ok' but the shrimp was rubbery and although it had a lot of garlic flavor it was missing something so it felt very flat, even the lemon couldn't help it. Glad I got to try it but not worth coming back for a second time. It's a cute shack with some tables outside. Very small and weird shaped shared parking lot.

A&J Seafood Shack is such a charming little spot. It's tucked in a small plaza, so parking can be a bit tight, but once you're there, you'll see why it's worth the stop. It's mostly a grab and go type of place, though they do have a few seats outside if you want to stay and enjoy. I tried the garlic shrimp and beef skewer, both were delicious, flavorful, and filling. I even had leftovers to enjoy the next day. The staff was fast, friendly, and professional, which made the experience even better. Overall, a great visit. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try the crispy salmon!

    Andrew S.

Ordered the garlic shrimp plate and the beef stick sandwich. Garlic shrimp 3/5 I ate it as soon as it came out and I wish the shrimp was crispier. The sauce was decent and had lots of garlic which I liked. I wish there was more sauce on the meal and rice. Overall, decent dish but not as memorable compared to other places that serve garlic shrimp. Beef stick sandwich 4/5 Lovely sandwich, it is pretty much a banh mi sandwich but with beef stick as the meat. The beef stick had a lot of amazing flavor and was the star of the sandwich. Taste was unique and tasty sandwich overall. I would definitely get the beef stick sandwich again!

The salmon was slimy and fishy. I do not recommend

The salmon nuggets are awful, what is everyone talking about??? The salmon was slimy and fishy it ruin my entire dinner. The salmon has no flavor other than fishy. This was a first time and never again. I have had their shrimp plate several times, it's amazing. I should have stuck with that. My mouth has such a seawater taste. The salmon was beyond disappointing and a waste of money. I do not recommend, if your a goody than you would know the salmon is . Stick with the garlic shrimp plate.

First time trying A&J Seafood Shack after seeing rave reviews about the beef stick sandwich. I was impressed! The place truly is a little shack in Long Beach. I picked up lunch on a weekday. I will say that despite nobody in front of me, my food took quite a while. Got the sandwich, a shrimp plate, and a thai iced tea. Beef stick sandwich is definitely unique and worth trying. Great flavors, great crunch from the slaw. I think it honestly needed some spice/sriracha. The shrimp plate was probably my favorite. They do this garlic sauce on the rice and shrimp and you just can't stop eating it. Hoping the wait isn't always bad but will definitely try it again!

I have a digestive intolerance to gluten (but rice & corn ok). Do any of these dishes have soy sauce, barley, rye, or wheat ingredients and/or can they be made without those ingredients? Khmer Sausage, Braised Pork Bowl, Seafood Chowder, Cajun Bag?

You’re good. We’re not using any of those ingredients you’re intolerant to.

    Can bring my own beer?

Good flavors that reminds me of Hawaii? Owner: Bring back the flag painting that was there before! 👍

Were in the process of creating a full wall murial that will include the flags and other cools sea creature arts. Hope to have complete soon.

Do you use any all purpose flour in your garlic shrimp? Wheat/Gluten allergy, so I want to double check. Thanks!

Our garlic shrimp are not battered with flour. So you’re good.

Hi Vannak, Is it possible to order the bag of shrimp without any added sugar or sweetness?…

Im sorry, our sauces are pre-made in large batches, so were not able to customize it to your liking except for heat level.

Can you buy just the papaya salad?

Yes, you can purchase a side of pickle papaya as part of an order with something else such as beef stick, wings...etc. We don’t however sell it by itself of sell large quantities of it due to limited supplies.

Are they already open for business?

Hi Jove! Our soft opening will be Friday, April 10th, 2020! We look forward to seeing you then for takeout of our fresh seafood!

There was plenty of parking when we arrived and we were seated immediately because there wasn't really anyone inside on a weekday afternoon. The beef sticks were probably one of the most flavorful beef sticks I have tried in my life. You're instantly hit with so many different flavors while it's hot. This is something we would get again. The beef larb was a little too tangy and sour for my boyfriend's taste, but he still enjoyed it. He also said the beef in the larb was a little chewy for him, but it wasn't a big issue for him. I enjoy eating sour foods, but it did have us sweating inside haha. I loved the combination of veggies mixed in with the larb and the cabbage definitely helped cut out some of the sourness. The angel chicken wings! Probably one of my favorites because of all the lemongrass and turmeric added inside. The chicken was crispy on the outside yet so juicy on the inside.
