My new favorite place to get some chicken and rice. They are located in a small plaza on the corner of Spring St & Clark Ave. They are known for their poached chicken, however I prefer the krispy rice plate with garlic rice. Same with my husband. He prefers the krispy rice plate. The combos and plate come with different sauces, good for dipping your chicken. Our first time we tried it, my BIL got up the Mix 50/50 plate which came with half krispy chicken and half lemongrass chicken and we had it with the garlic rice. Ever since trying it then, I've just been craving it ever since. Another goodie ate the chicken skins. You can add spices and adjust your heat / spice level. I like the chicken skins with the garlic aioli (which is an additional charge). I also tried the Thai iced tea. Very delicious. Very Thai tea forward. The only thing is you couldn't adjust sweetness. The interior is very cute and colorful. There is a bar like seating and well as well as seats for disabled people. They also have an outdoor patio seating. Service was great. I usually go for a chicken plate or a protein bowl. But on this visit, I decided to try one of their burritos, for the first time. They ask if you want it whole or cut in half. I chose whole, which was a mistake (because it's huge). Do yourself a favor and have them slice it in half. The burrito is basically one of their protein bowls wrapped in a tortilla. Good; bad? Ordered online for pickup and it was ready in 15-20 min -- pretty quick! Ordered a lemongrass chicken burrito and a mixed platter to try. Been eyeing a hainan chicken burrito after seeing it on social media and it sounded very appealing. Ordered less rice extra cabbage for my burrito. Must eat with the sauces! Entrance was clean and very organized. Looked like you could order from a kiosk too. The chicken was OK. It's not like the hainan chicken you could find in San Gabriel though. It's missing some ginger/oil marinade so it's more of a clean tasting chicken. Without the sauce I think it's def missing some flavor. Interesting idea though I wish the chicken had better seasoning. Burd chicken rice is so good!! I found it out of nowhere and it was one of the best treasures I found in Long Beach! I got the lemongrass burrito, cracking skins, and 5050 cane juice drink. It was so good!! The cracking skin reminded me so much of home. The burrito was huge and tasted well!! And the 5050 cane juice drink was very much needed to wash it down. I hate to do this and had no plans to post this review but the experience was so appalling that I had to review. We came here for the first time for dinner. It was such a weird experience, when we walked in, we got greeted and that was it. So we started looking through the kiosk, and tried to place our order. Beware of the "combo", the price listed is for only the chicken plate, then you add in your drink order. I don't believe there's any discount if you order separately or as a combo. We were trying to pay and got "timed out". There was another party that walked in, and immediately got help at the cashier. At that point, why did we get sent to the kiosk instead of helped by the cashier to ring up our order. Luckily, they took our order then had us pay. Overall, food was not bad, but not the best. We ordered the two chicken plate - one with fried and original and the other fried and lemongrass with sugarcane juice. Like another helper said, the sugarcane juice was a little brown versus the green I'm used to, but it was tasty, The fried chicken was dry. Like over fried dry crispy, not in the good way. The lemongrass and original was a similar taste, once you dip in their sauces it tasted the same. The chicken skin was good, nice and crispy. Overall, this would have been a 3* but a few days later we found out that we were charged twice. We called immediately and was given the run around and they didn't believe us. We have been trying to work with you. It's not fraud. Of course we weren't given a receipt, one for the "time out" and the other at the counter. I'm not sure what kind of business you're trying to run, but this has been the worst experience ever. We called today trying to reach them, and had the rudest server answer. I've had Burd bookmarked a for a while now, and finally got to try it. I'm new to Hainanese chicken rice, but have been becoming a fan. There is something simple, yet rich about the dish. Burd's didn't disappoint. I really liked the flavor of the rice and the ginger scallion sauce. I think I liked my wife's crispy chicken a little better than my poached chicken, but maybe the mixed combo gives you the best of both worlds. I'm happy that Burd Chicken Rice exists in Long Beach on the corner of Spring and Clark. Burd is pretty special because it offers chicken in a variety of textures. Their "classic" chicken combo is a simple boiled chicken served with their rice that's cooked in chicken broth. What brings the flavors from simple to delicious is their sauces that adds sweetness and herbiness. If you feel that it's bland, maybe you need to be eating it with the flavor bomb sauces they provide. I wish they gave a little more sauce with the bowls; however, I digress. If Cambodian-style hainan chicken isn't your thing, then you should go with their lemongrass chicken or their deep fried chicken. If you're feeling under the weather, it looks like they also offer congee. Their hidden gems are their drink menus and their fried chicken skins, which adds the texture that some may feel like they're missing when they order the "classic bowl". If you aren't sure about the classic bowl, then consider coming on weekdays from 2-5pm as they're currently having a BOGO deal at this time for their classic bowls. Me and my husband ate here this week. We split the Classic Burrito. It had yellow rice, chicken, cabbage, cilantro cucumber and green onions. Chili ginger sauce came in a little ramekin on the side. The burrito was great! The sauce really made it. *yummy* I really liked the type of rice in it; I believe it's cooked in chicken broth. They do charge a 4% fee for using credit. Honestly, my visit to Burd Chicken was pretty underwhelming. I got the combo with the crispy chicken and the Hainan chicken. The crispy chicken tasted a bit old, like it had been sitting out for a while and got reheated, and it was definitely overcooked. The Hainan chicken was just alright--nothing impressive. The sauce was good, but again, not impressive. I'm Cambodian and my mom makes a much better version, though I guess if you've never had it before, you might think it's great. We also got the crispy chicken skins. They were good, but absolutely not worth the crazy $30+ price tag for a large order. The wings were a letdown too--zero flavor and kind of soggy. Picked up dinner toning to try. I got the original plate and a combo plate with 1/2 original and 1/2 lemon grass. The plate came with a bed of cabbage but with no salad dressing . I loved the variety on the mix burd plate, and the ginger scallion sauce and the chili ginger sauce they provide give the dish even more dimension and flavor. The rice was delicious-- I highly recommend letting it soak in some of that extra broth the give you on the side. The cabbage and cucumbers they add gives the dish extra freshness. My family and I love hainan chicken, but we usually have to drive far for a decent one. We came during the soft opening of this new restaurant and we're so happy to finally have a spot locally that serves it! The chicken was moist, tender, and cooked perfectly. The sauces were just right and really complemented the chicken well, adding great flavor without overpowering it. It definitely satisfied our craving for good chicken and rice. We tried their classic, krispy, and lemongrass (going forward I think we'll only pick the classic and krispy since the lemongrass isn't as lemongrassy as how I wanted it for a "lemongrass chicken"). The ordering process was really convenient with the easy touch-screen self-ordering system, and the food came out quickly, which made the experience even better. They also had ordering at the counter available, but I preferred the touch-screen. The only downside is that I wish there was a bit more seating inside. First time here at Burd Chicken Rice. Found out it was Cambodian owned so I had to show support. I got the mixed chicken plate so it came with yellow rice, a bed or shredded cabbage and 2 slices of cucumber with the original chicken and the lemongrass chicken. It came with a side of broth and 2 sauces a garlic chili sauce and a green onion garlic ginger oil sauce. The sauce itself was delicious especially the garlic chili sauce very Cambodian. The green onion one is also good very Hainan chickeny. The broth and rice were light but flavorful. I didnt care for the shredded cabbage tbh. It reminds me of L&L bbq which I dont care for the cabbage either at least it is used to absorb the grease/flavor of the meat but Burds original and lemongrass chicken has no grease. The flavor of the original is very plain what I expected it. And the lemongrass is somehow...lacking umph in flavor. Maybe I was expecting more of the lemongrass to pop or maybe they toned down the flavor because of the location...idk. anywho I also got the coco cane kumquat drink.
