Saw enough good things about the rotisserie chicken at El Pollo Dorado, to make a conscience effort to drive out here to pick up a family meal to go. The service was good and the rotisserie chicken was solid, but the sides were not. The PCH here is quite busy with cars, so good that there is a small dedicated parking lot. One orders and pay from the window, and there are 4 cafeteria style tables indoors. It took about 5 minutes for the order to be prepared, and was well wrapped for carry out. The mini-pak ($22.99) consists of one whole, chopped up chicken with sides of beans, potato salad, and chicken rice. It comes with tortillas and salsa. The one outstanding thing about the meal was the well crisped and flavorful chicken skin. As for the meat, the dark thigh meat was really good, the white meat OK, but the drumstick meat was dry/gummy/mealy. And the chicken size was about the one that comes from a regular grocery store (not Costco). I liked the potato salad, as the potato pieces were chopped pretty fine, and the chicken rice did have chicken pieces in it, but wasn't particularly flavorful. The beans were bland, and the tortillas even more so. There is a more famous grilled chicken chain, that is closer, cheaper, and somewhat better tasting for me. I ordered their half chicken with corn tortillas and the food came out no less than 2 minutes after I ordered it. The guy out the window offered me both types of salsa to try out since it was my first time and enjoyed both of them thoroughly. The chicken came out crispy and hot and I the tortillas were steaming hot. The salsas were typical but flavorful and paired well with the chicken. The restaurant itself looks pretty janky with a limited parking lot that could support up to maybe eight cars, max. There's a outside dining area where you can enjoy your meal at and a little hand wash station to wash your hands after handling your food. All in all, it was a great meal spending only $8.99 for half a chicken and tortillas. They were quick and courteous and super convenient, especially if you're running tight for lunch. I don't know what happened but the last two times I went, the chicken was really dry. Nothing like it was the first time. My only thought was the first time I went earlier and it likely hasn't been sitting long and was more fresh. The last two times, I went near closing so maybe got the "bottom barrel" chicken that they either messed up or simply been out drying in the heater too long. I mean costco pulls those chickens and debones it and sells the meat for sandwiches or soup where the dry chicken won't matter. That's what I would have preferred than be served dry chicken.
