It had been a while since my last visit, and I was craving a bomb fried chicken sandwich. I recalled last time thinking the bird sauce needed a bit more "oomph" so I ordered a side of the spicy bird sauce as well. Alone, the kick from the spicy sauce might upset my stomach after a few bites. But in combination with the regular bird side? Perfection, baby! I like that they aren't stingy with the pickles. I opted out of their waffle fries this time since I had some yummy potato salad waiting for me in the fridge. But those fries... *drool* The chicken tenders are also bomb here. Nice big pieces of white meat chicken, nice and juicy on the inside and great with many dipping sauces. I like this shared kitchen location. So many options to choose from (still got many more I haven't tried). I've noticed a trend with already 5 of the places having that round sticker with their brand on it. I finally tried Bird-N-Bun via Ubereats and I had an okay experience. My boyfriend and I both had the same thing; an order of waffles fries and the spicy bird with pepper jack cheese and bacon. We also got a few different sauces such as ranch, bird sauce and the spicy bird sauce. I enjoyed both bird sauces but prefer the spicier version. Onto the food, the waffles fries are literally Carls Jr. waffle fries but on steroids. They tasted fluffy and yet still had that nice little crunch to them. The sandwich on the other hand was just decent to me. It wasn't bad but it just didn't leave much of a long lasting impression on me. Though the texture was good, I personally felt that the food was just a little too overly salty for my liking. Overall I don't hate Bird-N-Bun but I'm not sure if I'd be back. 3/5 read more

Food is good, but this establishment seriously needs quality control . Chicken tenders even a little burnt become bitter and dry, sometimes chicken is burnt sometimes the size of the strips are laughable and sometimes they are amazing. Food quality control and time management are very much needed, for such a small staple menu there should be systems in place to ensure each batch is the same quality. read more

Rarely am I compelled to write a review on Yelp unless the place exceeds expectations or falls short. This location is in the latter category. Ordered on DoorDash a deluxe chicken sandwich with waffle fries and a side of ranch. Besides screwing up the order (received a normal sandwich with no coleslaw) the amount of chicken in the sandwich is for lack of a better term, pathetic. The chicken was dry and virtually non existent. The sandwich comprised of entirely burnt batter with very little chicken inside. I'm not sure if they could legally call this a chicken sandwich. The side of ranch (which they charge $1.50 for; I know, DoorDash overcharges) was enough to consume with one waffle fry. I appreciate Bird-N-Bun looking out for my calorie intake but I would have appreciated a full container of ranch, especially when I'm paying for it. In hindsight the small portion was a blessing in disguise as the ranch was rather bland. The waffle fries were the only decent thing on this order. I have no complaints there. Meanwhile, walk-ups (us) order from a kiosk. Kiosk has about 20 restaurants and their menus within. 5 stars for innovation. After this, it goes downhill. Place has a few tables and chairs for eating, but area seems sketchy for evening dining. Service is engaging, so plus there. I saw operation...Commercial refrigerator; each restaurant seems to have a door. So...fresh frozen heated up, maybe? It's a step up from Chic Fil a. The chicken is thick whether you order it on the sandwich or tenders. I ordered the classic chicken sandwich, vegan chicken sandwich, biscuit sandwich, chicken and waffles and the crispy fries. The vegan sandwich wasn't bad but I would like the Pattie to be as thick as the chicken sandwich. Both come with a signature sauce that has a perfect kick. I couldn't leave without trying the chicken and waffles. The waffle is nice and fluffy and pairs well with the chicken. Also the biscuit sandwich was decent, small but the biscuit was not dry and I appreciate that. This place has a small indoor seating area if you choose to go there to eat. But it is mostly a pick up and go spot since there is other kitchens there as well. read more

Bird-N-Bun is a go-to and I absolutely love the sandwiches. The chicken is fried perfectly and juicy, whether you order original, spicy or deluxe. The loaded fries are very good, but the fries themselves are kind of whatever in terms of flavor but with everything else going on they kind of get away with it. Would be awesome if they loaded the original and spicy sandwiches with coleslaw like most other fried chicken sandwich places, so 4 stars for poor fry quality and having to pay extra for something that comes standard most other fried chicken places. Delivery is always fast, which is awesome when your hungry in a pinch. It's a ghost kitchen so there's not much in terms of ambiance, but the service is usually good if you go to pickup. read more

A TRUE happy accident. On our way back to Orange County I was looking up just any type of fast food type of spots. The very first place with great reviews were Bird - n - bun. When we pulled up I have to admit it was a little confusing. I didn't quite understand what they were going for. But I assume because of covid they changed up their whole set up. We were able to order on iPad for a handful of spots and wait for our order to be placed in a locker for pick up, for essentially contactless pickUp. I landed on Bird-n-Bun, I saw that they had amazing looking chicken sandwiches, fries and sides. My eyes immediately landed on the vegetarian bird. A vegetarian twist on their classic chicken sandwich. So I thought to my self, challenge accepted. When I tell you, the taste, the presentation, the consistency, the flavors down the very last crumb were amazing. Their spicy chicken sandwhich is like a fancier version of Nashville fried chicken. The quality of the chicken meat is good. The meat isn't dried and is tender enough. I am actually quite surprised that even with delivery, the chicken remains still crunchy even when it's cold. The sandwhich is large, but the chicken is larger than the bun. So funny enough, for reasons that aren't important to this review, right before discovering Bird-n-Bun, over the course of that week (a couple weeks ago), I'd just had a reason to taste-test several crispy chicken sandwiches from several national fast food chains, including the (in)famous Popeyes chicken sandwich, the one that was supposed to blow your socks off (it was... ok.) So when the next day, I discovered a new ghost kitchen place nearby specializing in fried chicken sandwiches, it was serendipity - obviously I had to try it immediately, so I got one of their classic spicy fried chicken sandwiches for lunch that day off Doordash. Doordash-wise, everything went perfectly - it arrived only 20 minutes after I ordered, they clearly know what they're doing. Granted, they're a little pricier than your average fast food, at $8, but don't let that fool you - in addition to being much higher quality in basically every respect, it was also way more filling - unless you were absolutely famished, you could just get a sandwich by itself and probably be happy. And yes, it was way better than Popeyes - super juicy flavorful chicken, super fluffy flavorful bun, and the perfect spice mix (some heat, but not overpowering, and just a great blend of flavors. Though if you're a crazy person who wants their mouth to be on fire after one bite, maybe go somewhere else). I also tried a bite of the side biscuit my wife got, and I agree with her, their biscuits are better than Popeyes, too (and Popeyes has great biscuits!) In the *abstract*, I'd say this is currently my third-favorite crispy chicken sandwich in Long Beach (after the equivalent sandwiches at Portuguese Bend and at Bamboo Club) - but in terms of *value*, there's really no competition. $8 is a fantastic price for a sandwich this good, and this filling. (Plus neither of those other places are on Doordash, which I didn't think I'd ever care about this much - all these reviews are gonna look *so* weird once coronavirus eventually, hopefully goes away...) read more

Before I rate the food, let's talk service, location and price. Service is zero contact. You order online and pay online. Pick up and that's it. Very convenient for covid. Location is obscured. Low key. But very well lit at night and always someone there. Price was well worth it. I spent almost $100 to feed my party of 5. We ordered 5 sandwiches, 5 waffle fries, two orders of tenders and 5 drinks. Now, food: chicken sandwiches proper. No complaints. No big impressions either. Almost basic. But good. If that makes sense. Waffle fries were well seasoned and good texture. Tenders were a nice size. A little bland for me, but good. Their house sauce or comeback sauce whatever, was probably the worst sauce I've ever had lol not a complaint. But seriously, not getting that again. Wow! Soo good and soo juicy. This was my first time ever trying it and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The deluxe bird chicken sandwich was on point. The chicken was tender, not dry at all, good flavor and perfectly crispy. The coleslaw, pretty refreshing and adds that needed color to the sandwich. I really liked the mustard pickles. The "secret dressing" was pretty good! The bread was well toasted and not hard or crunchy at all--I bet it would taste amazing if they used Hawaiian buns! Omg. If they had an upgrade charge for Hawaiian buns I would definitely pay extra! Still, good tastin' buns! Lastly, the waffle fries were okay, I don't think I would get them again since the flavor wasn't really there for me, also I didn't like the consistency of the fries once you bite them. Super easy to order, you go in, there are signs and a kiosk touch screen to other from, you then input your phone number and you get an alert when ready for pickup. Always looking for an adventure, we loaded up the fam and placed an online pick up order en route to a new place for chicken sandwiches. Online ordering was VERY easy. Not having an idea what type of location we were looking for, and a confused GPS, we drove down the alley past the pick up door twice before understanding the "PICK UP HERE" sign was our destination! We never saw one note that we'd arrived at Bird-n-Bun. Into a door, through another door to a pick up window. We knew it wasn't a restaurant, no seating, and they discourage pick up, strongly suggesting Postmates delivery. But looking past the friendly lady at the window, we could see what appeared to be a very clean test kitchen area. Our food was ready, as promised, and everything in our 3 big bags (for 7 people) was correct. Plated the food at home and dug in. Man, it's AMAZING! We had one holdout, a picky eater, so we just put him in a closet. The sandwiches are huge begging the question "where do they get those chickens?" The slaw was perfect, beware the sauce might be a little spicy for some. I had to pause and drink every couple of bites but I couldn't stop eating it. I ate about 1/2 before I had to call it, wrapping the other 1/2 up for dinner, but I think everyone else ate their entire sandwich. Soft bun; it was a perfect sandwich. And the fries are notable as well, crunchy outside, soft inside. There are so many chicken places now, Chick-Fil-A, Raising Cane's, all fast food chains, but Bird-N-Bun nailed it. It's appealingly different. Great sauce. And very reasonably priced. It's worth the trip, down a dark alley, through an unmarked door. I won't say how many times I've ordered since this place opened, but ordered again, and this time a few extras for my co-workers to try. Many of them are loyal chick fil a followers and I knew an endorsement from them would guarantee more business for this new spot so that they'll be around for a long time. They were blown away! Fried chicken tenders barely fix in the container, and was flowing outside the bun. The chicken was super crunchy and the meat was juicy and flavorful, as it always is. I think the owners recognized me after having ordered so many times, so I was surprised to see a few extra cookies in there even though I didn't order them. The hype machine strikes again! Got my BOGO today and the verdict is in.... meh. Don't get me wrong, this is a much better sandwich than any you can get at a fast food chain and you can tell they use real hand breaded chicken and homemade sauces. The problem is that the sandwich is nothing special. It's the kind of sandwich that you won't regret having once in awhile but you won't go out of your way for one. I'm sure they're super busy right now since they just opened, so I'd give it another shot in a month or so. But for me, the flavor just wasn't anything to write home about.
