The hype machine strikes again! Got my BOGO today and the verdict is in.... meh. Don't get me wrong, this is a much better sandwich than any you can get at a fast food chain and you can tell they use real hand breaded chicken and homemade sauces. The problem is that the sandwich is nothing special. It's the kind of sandwich that you won't regret having once in awhile but you won't go out of your way for one. I'm sure they're super busy right now since they just opened, so I'd give it another shot in a month or so. But for me, the flavor just wasn't anything to write home about. Thank god I was able to try this chicken sandwich!! I got lucky enough to eat it at a pop up in Long Beach. Honestly this was the juiciest, crispiest chicken I have ever eaten. The crunch of the chicken is very.. very addictive, the bun is soft af and neutralizes the crispy chicken, and the sauce is comparable to chick-fil-a's but tastes much more fresh (and not packaged). The restaurant saw my review and reached out to make it right by offering me a $10 coupon towards my next visit, so I decided to give them another try. I basically ordered the same thing (sandwich, tenders, and fries...although the second time i went with shoestring fries instead of waffle.) I also picked my food up this time, which made a world of difference! It's so much better when it's hot and fresh. Everything was wonderfully spicy and fried and was a delicious indulgence. I particularly enjoyed their signature sauce on the sandwich, and ranch dip pairs perfectly to take a bit of the spicy (yet flavorful) bite out of the tenders. Bird-N-Bun is one of many restaurants inside of (what I assume) is a large industrial kitchen...sort of like a coworking space for restaurants. When the BnB reached out to me, they explained that often drivers are picking up multiple orders and will wait, which makes a lot of sense and explains why my food was so cold when it arrived. So off we went to order and take-out. Upon reaching the address, we found no body. One could be grateful for that in one sense, since there was nothing untoward here but a deserted alley. A doorway was supposed to have devises on which to place an order. We looked around. Finally a passing employee said they're not working-(the devices) and disappeared into an unmarked door. There was no "there" there. We left after lingering a few moments, I think of the film "Soylent Green". If some message or information from this group exists, it might be helpful. A photograph that someone posted only indicate a nameless "food pickup" sign on the side of the black brick building. Since that time, I notice a number of new enterprises have opened at 1388 Daisy Avenue. Mostly to very good reviews. Taishi Hainan Chicken seems the most recent. The husband and I had a late night craving the other day and stumbled upon Bird-N-Bun on Ubereats. They stay open late which is a plus! We ordered a Deluxe Bird which is a fried chicken breast, coleslaw and pickles on a brioche bun, 3 XL jumbo tenders and waffle fries. The sandwich was humongous and so were the tenders! It was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. My husband and I could only finish half the burger and 1 1/2 of the chicken tenders and ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. The FOOD was 5 star - 11 star, if I could. I'll explain the removal of a star at the end. First, the best stuff... The Spicy Chicken Sandwich was OMG crispy, spicy - maybe the two best chicken sammys in memory. The 3 "strips" - I've seen chickens this big. They were perfect. To be honest, my wife and I could've split either the sandwich or the strips and been happy. Now for the blah... The coleslaw was just ok. My boyfriend orders the Jumbo Fried Chicken Tenders from here roughly once a week, and considers them to be the best fried chicken in LA. I am a long time vegetarian, so for months now, I have watched enviously as he devours the chicken. To our surprise, Bird-N-Bun began offering a vegetarian option this week. Enter the Plant-Based "Bird". I am not sure why they call it this, as only the patty itself is vegan (I believe they use Gardein)-their house made breading is not. That being said, the sandwich is vegetarian, and it is excellent. The crispy buttermilk fried "chicken" patty is served on a soft brioche bun, spread with their signature Bird Sauce (creamy, chipotle perfection) and pickles. I love how finely the cabbage in their Coleslaw is shredded, and that it is creamy without being overdressed. The Waffle Fries were also very good. There was this perfect crunch on both and the seasoning was good. I even enjoyed the spicy bird sauce, and I'm normally not into sauces that might have mayo in them. It's so good I don't even care if there's mayo in it. I ordered them via postmates and my delivery was seamless. The presentation of the items order was great, my food arrived hot and everything was intact! Oh Bird-N-Bun, what can I say about you. I've been on a fried chicken sandwich kick and I was so lucky to have a friend be in the area and grab me a sandwich. It was beyond awesome and totally hit the spot. I got the deluxe with the coleslaw on the side and added the coleslaw in it with some of the many delicious sauces. Even after picking it up and not getting to eat it for at least 30-40 mins after, it was still crispy and still warm and amazing. I don't know how they managed to do that. The kicker was that I didn't feel disgusting after. Some of the other fried chicken sandwiches out there tend to make me regret life after -- this one is the exception. Again, not sure how they managed that, but I'm sure glad they figured it out. The fries are also crispy and amazing. I'm drooling just thinking about the meal all over again. Bird-N-Bun -- oh how I wish you were closer to me and could deliver 10 miles away. I'd be lying if I didn't check everyday to see if somehow the delivery services extended their distance. Working in the harbor one gets excited when a new place opens up in the area. It can get a bit boring round here finding places to eat. Saw Bird-N-Bun in the "Hot & New" tab in Yelp and had to try. It's not a place you can go and eat, it's a pick-up/delivery only. You order online in the Yelp app. I ordered the Deluxe Bird and Fries without a hitch on the app. I drove down to the location a bit worried it may be hard to find. Not a problem, as soon as you turn onto Daisy about a block down you'll see signs saying "pick-up" pointing down an alley. You find yourself a place to park and run in. The food was ready, bagged, and sitting on a rack with my name on it. Easy-peasy! Got back to work and sat down to eat. First off the fries although were cold, they were tasty. I won't knock them a star for the cold fries due to possibly my fault for picking up later than I could have maybe? Anyways, they were flavorful. The chicken sandwich had some kind of yummy sauce and cole slaw on a nice brioche bun. The chicken was a nice size, and cooked to perfection! Excellent crispness yet still moist and very tender. Just recently heard of this place and won a free giftcard from there so we were excited to try out their food. We are always on the hunt for good chicken sandwiches & let me say, their sandwiches are really delicious! The sandwich was flavorful and didn't feel heavily oily as some fried sandwiches can leave you feeling really blah afterwards (if you know what i mean). The toffee blondie was also really good too. OH MY GOD. I laugh at myself for ever having craved Chik Fil A or Raising Canes because this is my new place. The chicken tenders were IMMACULATE. HUGE. 3 pieces but holy crunch. Holy juicy.
