Another great night at the ordinarie!! We went here for a whiskey tasting (check out women who whiskey Long Beach- there's also a club in LA!). The restaurant provided some great snacks including a really delicious popovers, which are warm and savory cheese puff pastries. I had the beet salad which had a nice assortment of mesclun greens with the beets and some crunch added by smoked almonds. And- one of the best old fashioneds I've ever sipped. They had a really creative spin on this classic cocktail by adding vermouth, banana liqueur and cocoa bitters!! Service at the bar was superb.

There's nothing "Ordinarie" about this place, the food was absolutely delicious and flavors were spot on, the inside of the restaurant was neat and clean as well inviting with a really chill vibe and our server Isabella was attentive, kind and she made the entire experience that much better. That's someone you fight hard to keep. I'll definitely be going back. 5/5 from me.

Cool spot and nice place for lunch & a drank. Alessandro was a good waiter and they have live music. I had the the grilled chicken sammich and fries. The sandwich was decent, but lacked flavor.

Such a beautiful ambiance! The workers were very nice and very attentive. We got the grilled chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad on the side and it was delicious! The cocktails were also very good, would definitely come here again!

Glad i got to try the ordinarie during the holidays! They had the miracle christmas menu drinks. My friends and I really enjoyed the food that was served here! We shared the mac and cheese topped with short rib, buffalo wings, fried cauliflower, and sweet potato fries. The mac and cheese with short rib was so delicious, one of the best mac and cheeses I have tried. We went on a Monday night after Christmas so there was no wait.

We visited The Ordinarie the day after Christmas to check out The Miracle Christmas themed pop-up. There is a $10 per person fee to make reservations online for times before 4pm. That $10 per person is credited to your bill. After 4pm, they only accept walk-ins. I parked in a lot right around the corner on Broadway, and it was only $8 for two and a half hours. They double park and want you to leave your keys, so I would park somewhere else next time. It was cold, rainy, and windy so I parked as close as possible. Our reservation was at 3:45pm, and even though we arrived 15 minutes early, we were seated immediately. I asked for a booth so we could sit next to each other and they accommodated my request even with only two people. It started to get very busy after 4pm. It is very festive inside with wall to wall and floor to ceiling Christmas decorations, with Christmas music playing in the background. There are many Christmas trees, stockings, santas, lights, snowflakes, movie characters, and the TVs have Christmasy content on them. We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie Bites ($18) to start. I wasn't expecting anything special, but they were surprisingly very good. The dough on the outside was soft and pillowy. The filling was tasty, and they are served in a bowl of gravy with a spoon. Pouring a little gravy over each bite made them even better. I started out with the Candy Cane Lane (Whtie Rum, Vanilla Liqueur, Dark Crème de Cacao, Minty Amaro, Candy Cane, Soy Milk, $18.95). It is served in a Christmas unicorn mug and tastes very much like a grasshopper cocktail. It is mint forward with chocolate and vanilla in the background, and is a good Christmas themed starter drink. She started out with the Christmapolitan (Vodka, Elderflower, Dry Vermouth, Spiced Cranberry Sauce, Lime, Rosemary, Absinthe Mist, $18). It was a good light drink with light sweetness. I could definitely smell the absinthe mist. For my main entrée, I had the Ordinarie Burger with fries ($20.00). This was a very good and very filling burger. The bun was super soft and it comes with caramelized onions and jalapenos in addition to tomato, lettuce, pickles, and cheese. The fries were fresh and the portion was ok. She had the Vegan Patty Melt with a salad ($22.00). This was also a very good sized patty melt with the sourdough bread toasted just right. The salad had good ingredients, including watermelon radish, but it was a little light on the dressing. Next, I had the Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus (Brandy, Italian Sweet Vermouth, Dark Crème de Cacao, Blackberry Liqueur, Tart Cherry & Chocolate, Lemon, Chocolate Bitters, Brandied Cherries, $18.95). It is served in a dinosaur mug. It is definitely on the sweeter side which masks the spirits. Having said that, it was actually pretty good, with a chocolaty berry flavor. Next, she had Rudolph's Replacement (Vodka, Coffee Liqueur, White Crème de Cocao, Orange Curacao, Chai, Almond Milk, Aromatic Bitters, $18.95). It is served in a Christmas dinosaur mug. It had a light sweetness and I got a little bitterness, perhaps from the coffee liquor. We tried out both shots, and you get to take the vintage looking santa shot glasses home. They were out of the black naughty glasses, so we got two red nice glasses. Nice Shot (Brandy, Strawberry, Grapefruit, $15.95). This has a light sweetness, and I also got a little bitterness, perhaps from the grapefruit. Naughty shot (Tequila, Habanero, Ginger, Hibiscus, $15.95). This is definitely pretty naughty and may make you grimace a bit. All flavors are boldly present and it may make your nose hairs curl a bit. We finished off with the Coconut Hot Chocolate (Aged Jamaican Rum, Amaretto, Chocolate Hazelnut & Coconut, Coconut Whipped Cream, Cacao Dust, $15.95). It is served in a larger version of the vintage looking Santa glass. It was hot and definitely a little boozy with rum and amaretto. A good coconut flavor was also present. I saw several reviews about poor service, but service was great for us. Taty started us out, and when her shift ended, Kaya took over. They were both so friendly, and our food and drinks were paced perfectly. Kaya went the extra mile and did a special favor for us at the end of the night which we really appreciated. There is a two hour time limit. However, we were there for almost two hours and twenty minutes, and were never asked to finish up. There is an automatic 20% tip included on the bill, and we left a little extra. The food was great and was a decent value. The drinks were not craft cocktails and were a little on the smaller side, but were festively themed and enjoyed which is what we came for. The ambiance and was décor was great, and it seemed like everybody we observed was having a good time. Rating: 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. There are a few more days left for the Christmas pop-up, so hurry in if you want to check it out.

I gave The Ordinarie five stars purely for their Christmas pop-up because it's truly top tier and hands down my favorite holiday bar. The space is decorated to perfection. I loved the over-the-top, gaudy holiday décor, and the cheeky Santa was my favorite touch. The vibes alone are immaculate and worth recommending for that reason. The food, however, was just okay. My boyfriend and I ordered the deviled eggs, mac and cheese, wings, and cauliflower, and we both agreed it was mid and a bit overpriced for what it was. The drinks were a different story...we loved them! I got the alcohol-free hot chocolate, which was incredibly rich and flavorful. My boyfriend ordered the eggnog cocktail and later the alcoholic hot chocolate, and he really enjoyed both. Despite how busy it was, our waitress was attentive and lovely, which we really appreciated. We had a reservation and were seated right away, which was a huge plus given the long line and how packed the place was. When you arrive, they give you a card letting you know you have the table for 90 minutes, and they kindly wrapped things up right on time.

Happen to find this location through Instagram. It portrays a Christmas experience while dining. Went here on a Thursday at 3pm with no reservations. Did a walk up through the front counter host. No problem, he sat us down for a party of 5! I read the reviews and most of the reviews stated it will be a long wait without reservations. We definitely got lucky. As we were seated, we were all in awe of all the beautiful Christmas decorations inside the restaurant. This is exactly what we wanted! "A Christmas experience!" Waited a few minutes for our waiter to take our order. Pretty much just ordered everything all at once. Devil Eggs and Christmas Drink Cheers. We received our food within 10 to 15 minutes. The drinks were fantastic and the food was delicous. Our waitress did an outstanding job. She always attended to us. Kudos to her!! If you want good food and want to get into the holiday spirit, this is the place to go to!! You only have a few days to experience it before Christmas comes! Overall, I would come back. I loved the energy and Decor. Not sure how this place is when the holidays are over. But still would like to experience this place at is normality. Great food, good service. A+ There is a dine in time of 2hrs, which is fair due to popular demand.

My husband and I had zero plans to visit a Christmas pop-up bar that night. We'd just come from drinks at Halo rooftop nearby and figured we'd "quickly check out" this location before heading home. Best kind of accident ever. Walking in felt like stepping inside the most over-the-top, joyful Christmas movie set. Every inch of the ceiling is dripping with lights, tinsel, stockings, ornaments, and paper lanterns, we were instantly obsessed. The vibe is pure holiday magic, never felt overwhelming. After years of saying "we should do one of those Christmas pop-up bars," we finally stumbled into the perfect one without even trying. The cocktails are delicious and lean sweet (exactly what you want this time of year), but they're perfectly balanced, not cloying. Every drink is served in the cutest holiday themed mugs. If you want to feel like a kid on Christmas morning while sipping a ridiculously cute cocktail, recommend checking this place out!

We had about a 30-minute wait, but honestly it flew by. Shoutout to our servers, Viri and Andres, who kept the vibes great from start to finish. The menu itself is super fun, which made ordering half the experience. I went with the "Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r!"--nutty, strong, but perfectly balanced with a touch of sweetness. Also tried the Naughty Shot, which was spicy but surprisingly good, and the Snow Day Sipper, which might actually be the best hot chocolate I've ever had. And can we talk about the decor? Whoever decorated this place deserves a raise. I clocked a few Dollar Tree finds, so I know they did this on a budget--and absolutely made it WORK. Cozy, creative, and full of personality. Definitely worth the wait. That said, I'm giving 3 stars because the drinks felt a bit pricey for the amount we got. My friend and I ordered the same drink, and hers looked like it had way more ice than actual drink. We pointed it out, and they were nice enough to take both drinks back to remake them, but when they came back, they were still heavily iced. Overall, great vibes and flavors, but the portion-to-price ratio could definitely be better. The cups they came in were super cute tho. And we got to keep the naughty and nice shots so that was a plus as well.

Beet Salad with chicken

Visited the day after Christmas for the Miracle Christmas pop up cocktail bar. We did the walk in option as there are no reservations after 4pm. We waited about twenty minutes for a party of 4. Upon being seated, they handed us a card that provided us a time frame for our table. I wish we had known this ahead of time as two of the four of us were seated while the rest of the party was parking. I would have liked the few extra minutes. The experience felt a bit rushed because of that. As for the food and drinks, I was so impressed. I ordered the beet salad and I absolutely loved it! I also tried the hatch Mac and cheese- that was delicious. The ambience was calm and merry. The playlist consisted mostly of Christmas music- so that's nice if you're into that. I will definitely be back next year.

Akisha E.

Came for their Christmas pop-up and to celebrate my birthday. This was my first time at The Ordinarie, so I wasn't sure what the space looked like without the holiday setup--but it definitely felt like Christmas inside. The décor was cute, festive, and a bit overstimulating, but still fun for the season. My husband and I were there just for drinks. I ordered the Rudolph's Replacement (vodka, coffee liqueur, white crème de cacao, orange curaçao, chai, almond milk, aromatic bitters), and it was so good! We came on a Monday around 6pm, so there was no wait and it wasn't packed. Just a heads-up: there's a 2-hour time limit, and they stick to it. They even place a card on your table with your start and end time. Also worth noting--they don't allow walk-up orders at the bar. You must be seated at a table or at the bar itself to order.

The Wicked Wolf is a kind of place that offers the opportunity for whimsical mischief. For…read moreinstance, they have a rooftop area. And this one time I was there alone with another, no other patrons just staff members walking around from time to time. We stole the moment to dance under the Long Beach sky, just the two of us as a famous Christina Perrio song gently wafted in the night breeze. At another separate time, I was at the Los Angeles County Fair with another. We rode the ferris wheel at such a time where our gondola stopped at the top just as the sun set. The moment was nothing but beautiful and life affirming because the sinking of the sun's light was like a real life video of nature happening in front of us, unburdened by static or data stall. We witnessed nature resting, and I feel, that it was a kin to a beauty falling into a gentle sleep. These two instances have a common factor: momentary bliss arrived to bless an experience because the environment supported discovery of unplanned joy. That is what I associate with the Wicked Wolf, and this time the joy arrived eventually because when my Mom and I arrived to their high tea on Mother's Day the experienced seem like it would land nowhere good. Truth be told, my mom and I arrived 15 minutes early and there was no host in the stand and the place was empty except for a foursome. The energy felt lacked luster. One or two minutes after, the bartender informed us that we were early and the host would come soon. We sat in an available sofa for two, a loveseat persay. This gave us an opportunity to admire the decor that transported us to a storybook forest where good fairies reside, not like swamp creatures and trolls with malevolent fangs and dragon green eyes. I especially loved the large roses in the ceiling. To set the stage, the black ceiling had vines hanging from it, and the few roses were pops of crimson red displayed above. These were wonderful accents to the central mural of the joint that invited the viewer within deeper into the fairy forest where a light shone on an unseen meadow. The place had the decorations and general environment to be a lavender fairy's lounge, but, it did not fully work as a team room. For instance, my mom and I were sat in another lover's couch. Initially, I did not want to sit here because we were given circular tray sets. So imagine being told to sit in a couch, and each of us would get a tv tray. So I was left to wonder if we were going to be served tea in Belle's living room or if were going to watch a flick as we ate pollo loco bowl? But then as I settled into the tranquility of the moment, saw more people come and find their seat or couch, and as the serviced picked-up I realized that this was high tea in a place that had taken disjointed beauty and tackied it together for a patched tea experience that worked well. It was like the experienced was blessed and allowed by the same spirit that brought forth Raggedy Ann. For instance, the pictures show these pretty violet petaled tea cups and matching plates. This pairing was dainty and perfect for a tea party happening under pink veils. But then the sugar cubes came in a hedgehog shaped holder which was just as precious as seeing a piglet in a carriage built for one. Then the cream carrier was in the shape of a milk carton. I wondered where the missing child portrait was? The pastry plate was in the shape of a tropical flower like the ones scattered all over Hawaii. It belonged in a beautiful lei. Each of these elements was cute in its own delicate and whimsical way but together they made an eclectic hodgepodge, not a coherent tea set. And in this asymmetry laid the glitter of their error. The host also brought these clip on dainty hats that were perfect touches for make believe tea party. He carried them around in their original packing, including the box they came in. Not exactly the tailor of the queen, offering hats to the villagers as a gift from her to them, but still the effort magnified the moment. The tea food was the worst stumble that Red took as she was being chased by the Wicked Wolf. To begin with the end analysis, the tea offerings in general were standard, and not bites fit for a princess and her wedding court. For instance, the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich was just that---- a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. I detected no effort to make it more than that. The blueberry scone was solid, nothing to skip through a meadow about. But once you added the jam of the table to the scone it was much easier to enjoy. I also had a madeline that was fluffy in the center but could have been purchased maybe at Costco. I had a Macaron and same thing, delicious but I have had something similar before and I suspected that it did not come from a place afloat with Parisian affairs. The best part of the tiers was this puff like thing that had like a Concha texture and design at the top. It was a sweet filled bite that was fit for a man made of muffin.

My sister and I took my mom to Sunday tea for her birthday…read more Cute place and the food and tea were delicious. They didn't looked like anything major. Honestly they looked like a glass of water. Some had the trimming with the salt, while others was basically a massive ball of ice that took over the glass. They're known for their drinks which I must say people love it here. They were strong which you get your moneys worth. The fun details and illustration of the cocktail menu was great. Edamame was tasty which I do recommend. But when it comes to the drinks, some was good while some was just whatever. It's strong so that's a plus. They're pretty tight with staff. I think there was just the hostess and the two bartenders. It's a fun little spot for cocktails. I can say I've been now.

ALTER EGO wasn't even on my radar until tonight, and now I'm wondering how on earth did I miss this…read morelittle slice of date‑night gold? HELLOW! This hidden gem lives inside the newly renovated Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach, and for all my Fairmont regulars: relax, you're in good hands, their world-renowned elegance remains intact. PARKING Valet is only $10, which in Southern California basically qualifies as a love language. (Note to Fairmont Breakers Management: Listen up, my friends! Please keep it that way, gas is $5.97/gallon and my wallet is already in therapy.) I handed the valet a $5 tip before I even stepped out of my car, just so I could glide into the lobby feeling like a full‑blown princess making her grand entrance. Before you leave, you simply pay the valet in cash or card and they'll have your car right there before you can even blink. AMBIANCE Walk in and boom! A towering, beautifully decorated Christmas tree greets you like it's auditioning for a holiday movie. Check out my photos; the whole lobby whispers one word: sophisticated. Oooh, I love that tree! Hang a right, stroll to the end of the hall, and you'll find ALTER EGO, a dark, cozy lounge that feels like the perfect hideaway for a date where you actually want to hear each other talk. Live music starts at 7 PM, the bar closes at 10, and honestly... that's ideal for those of us over 50 who consider 10 PM the witching hour for pajamas. Rob Fontana was performing tonight, and his music was so good I found myself time‑traveling back to the good old days. Every song hit, Rob. Good job! SERVICE Our server, Nia, was a star. Attentive, sharp memory, and smooth service all the way through. Zero notes. FOOD The menu is small, so if you show up ravenous, pace yourself or plan to Uber home after a cocktail‑heavy evening. I'm allergic to cheese, so I had to double‑check ingredients, but the Mushroom Flatbread was outstanding, flavor was superb and the best part was they did not skimp on the mushrooms! A+ for that. I also tried the Prosciutto di Parma with melon, which is a strange combo for a California girl... but hey, I never said I wasn't a weirdo. Drinks are not my thing since I enjoy company without alcohol's help, so I can't help you with that. DATE‑WORTHY OR NOT? Absolutely. Alter Ego gets a double thumbs‑up from me and a strong recommendation for your next Silver Singles date. It's easy to find, the seating is comfortable (even for those of us with backs that like to complain), and they even offer tube pillows for extra support. Tell me that's not romance.

On a Wednesday night we were able to walk in and had no trouble getting a table for 4. The aesthetic is the standout feature of the place. The main bar is beautifully decorated and there are spacious booths to eat at as well. My favorite part was the two additional "secret" bar areas! While sitting in the main bar area you would have no idea there are additional rooms. Exploring the other rooms was a fun, unique part of the visit. The drinks were photo worthy as well as tasted great. The bar tender was attentive and adjusted my drink based on how much sweetness I like. The lychee margarita was my favorite because they light it up table side for a fun presentation! The food tasted great and was very affordable priced! Our group ordered multiple items and shared them family style, which seems to be a common approach here. The shrimp fried rice was delicious and my favorite food item. One order was plenty to share between 4 people. Per our server's request, we also tried the cucumber salad which was really refreshing and a great side. I tried the popcorn chicken but honestly they packed a kick and were too spicy for me, so be warned. In sum, the service, food, drinks, and ambiance were great and I will definitely be back!

Absolutely delicious food at reasonable prices. Probably the best fried rice and edamame I've ever…read morehad. Service was decent, didn't get quite as much attention as I would have ordered more food had someone stopped by faster. It's a really small location so it's a little bizarre that service is a bit on the slow side. That said, everything else was fantastic so it's a small sin as such things go. Overwhelmingly recommend this place, just maybe order a lot up-front so you don't end up waiting around for more. It also has 2 speakeasys attached to the "main" restaraunt, but book early as those spots are even harder to get into.

False Advertising and Total Failure of a "Speakeasy"…read more This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn't know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: "I don't know, they were supposed to be here. I don't have their phone number." That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the end of the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: "Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn't the best, but we tried." Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn't "tried."That statement perfectly summarizes the problem -- trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It's a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.

I give it a 1 because 0 was not an option. Absolute disaster. Avoid this place at all costs. What…read morewas supposed to be a classy night celebrating a 50th birthday turned into a complete nightmare. This is not a speakeasy, it's a tiny, rundown bar pretending to be something it's not. The staff was inexperienced, dismissive, and unprofessional. Drinks were outrageously overpriced and took forever to arrive. The food was a joke, a $60 charcuterie board made up of cheap grocery store cheese, ham, and crackers that didn't come close to justifying the price. We were served warm water that tasted like chlorine, and the response from staff was literally "I don't know, I just work here." At one point both waitresses vanished, leaving the bartender overwhelmed and everything grinding to a halt. The live jazz band they advertise never showed up, and staff had no explanation or contact info. The so-called dress code was completely ignored, with groups in jeans and sneakers flooding in, turning the place loud, chaotic, and classless. This place delivers nothing it promises. It's not a speakeasy, it's a poorly run bar that shouldn't be in business. Strongly do not recommend, and honestly, I want my money back.
