Visited Viaje on a Sunday afternoon for "social hour" (happy hour) and stayed for FIVE HOURS! It's difficult to find a restaurant with amazing ambiance, service, food AND cocktails, but Viaje cracked the code. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and received AMAZING service from the bartenders Bailey and Randy. Both gentlemen were extremely knowledgeable about tequila and took the time to understand our preferences, pick a cocktail off the menu for us and then explain each cocktail in great detail. Give these guys a visit and I promise you'll be in a good hands! Cocktails/food we tried and I highly recommend: "Hasta el cielo" - The cantalope in this drink is so insanely refreshing, especially right now in this summer heat! "Paloma Blanca" - You'll be disappointed with every single Paloma after experiencing the Paloma Blanca. They mastered their in house clarified grapefruit soda. "Moda Chicali" - My spirit of choice is gin and it's hard to find a cocktail that isn't cucumber and mint. Viaje nailed it with this one!! It's a perfect balance of light and sweet. It almost has a lychee taste to it, even though that's not an ingredient! "Pelon Divino" - If you enjoyed eating pulparindo as a kid, then you'll love this cocktail. I'm not usually a fan of mezcal, but the smokiness is so smooth and almost needed to balance out the tamarindo. Probably the first time I've truly enjoyed a mezcal in my cocktail! "Taco de Pork Belly" - INSANELY GOOD. Pork belly was so crispy and juicy. The pico de gallo was perfect. And the handmade in house blue corn tortillas were DELICIOUS. "Taco de Camaron" - Also delicious. Shrimp was juicy and seasoned well. "Carnitas" - This was recommended to us by the staff and it did not disappoint. The meat fell off the bone and was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The black beans were also soooo flavorful and the perfect texture. This dish was enough food for two people to share if you started your evening with appetizers. Viaje is the perfect place for a solo meal, date night or meeting up with some friends for dinner. I will 100% be back and will be telling everyone I know about this restaurant. Keep it up Viaje! read more

This place really fooled us. The food was a 2-star experience, but the service was absolutely 5-star. The staff was attentive, friendly, and on top of everything, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. We knew it wasn't a traditional Mexican restaurant, which was perfectly fine, but unfortunately the food just didn't deliver. The ceviche was served in what tasted like a cold tomato soup, garnished with microgreens, cilantro, and other greens. Great presentations but the flavors just didn't work for us. The carnitas were the biggest disappointment. They were served more like barbecue ribs and were very tough. They definitely weren't the tender, flavorful carnitas we were expecting to enjoy with tortillas. The chips were good, and management stopped by to check on us, which was appreciated. I really wish the food had matched the level of service and atmosphere. We didn't want to chance it with dessert so we skipped dessert and after dinner drinks. read more

I live locally and finally was able to try Viaje. We had a party of six, made reservations and was seated promptly at the appointed time Everything was great. We started with some guacamole and ceviche, along with a mezcal margarita. For the main it was the Pulpo, which is an octopus chorizo blend. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and reminiscent of Tulum. The space felt thoughtfully designed and created a great setting for the evening. The service was friendly and attentive, although it was a little slower than expected. We started with cocktails. I ordered the Pocho, made with Amaras Verde Mezcal, Bourbon, pina, guanábana, lime. The drink was enjoyable and unique, with tropical flavors that worked well together, although it was not quite as balanced as I expected. My fiancée ordered the Paloma Blanca, and it was excellent, awell-crafted cocktail. One of the highlights of the meal was the Tacos Dorados. With crema, and avocado emulsion was absolutely delicious. The flavors immediately reminded me of the potato tacos my mom used to make when I was growing up. The mushrooms added a rich depth of flavor. We also ordered the Arrachera, a 10-ounce Black Angus skirt steak served Anaheim pepper hand-pressed heirloom blue corn tortillas. The steak was flavorful and well seasoned, although it was slightly more underdone. Overall, the food was very good, and the atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. While the pricing felt a little high for some of the portions, the quality of the ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and memorable flavors made it a restaurant we would gladly return to. My husband and I are regulars here. They have a comfortable patio and chill vibes at the bar and main dining. It can be a romantic date spot or casual drinks and snacks. I'm always surprised when they're empty; the food is so good! Fresh, high quality and delicious. And the cocktails are some of the best in Long Beach. On top of that, they have a unique selection of tequilas and mezcals. Super underrated spot. Service is always pretty good to great! We usually get some excellent servers. Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations. Definitely must try the ribeye taco, sopes and octopus if you want something smaller. The ribeye steak, whole fish or leg of lamb are also outstanding. Some items come with their homemade, blue corn tortillas. So yummy. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend! We tried out this place for the first time. Found a parking pretty easy after 6pm it's free . We were a walk in no reservations needed on Thursday bar top was open and it's my favorite place to be. It's where all the action of the restaurant is in my opinion. Very well decorated nice and warm atmosphere cool ambiance and great and friendly staff. The chips and salsa is where it started and is very good chips taste homemade and salsa is very tasty. We tried the different tacos they have, they were all good but I think the Ribeye taco is hands down my favorite. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now and so glad I did last night. My bestie and I went here for dinner last night and we couldn't have made a better choice! The food was delicious, they give you complimentary freshly made chips and salsa. The salsa had a fiery kick to it! I loved it! We started off with an order of guacamole to share and the octopus tentacles. The octopus tentacles come with a potato puree garnished with some chorizo. It was amazing! The tentacles were cooked to perfection, tender, and delicious! Highly recommend this one! For my entree I ordered the chicken but decided to request no mole for my chicken dish. Randomly searched Yelp, found Viaje in Long Beach, and decided to give it a try. Honestly such a good call. The ambiance was great -- we chose to sit outside and it just felt easy and relaxed. Our server was super helpful and made some really solid recommendations. We started with the tacos dorados de papa and asked for a vegetarian version of the short rib aopes with mushrooms instead -- and they were delicious. So much flavor. For our main, we had the chile relleno. It was an interesting take on the classic, not traditional but really well done. Dessert was churros and tres leches. I stopped into Viaje in Long Beach on a business trip and had a fantastic visit. I sat at the spacious bar and ordered a margarita made with the bartender's recommended Añejo tequila. It was smooth, bold, and well balanced. For dinner I had the Chile Relleno (shrimp, octopus & portobello with white wine and clam-juice sauce). It was different, and outstanding. Generous seafood, a smart twist on the classic Chile Relleno, and rich in flavors. The ambiance is upscale Mexican -- stylish but comfortable, lively but approachable. Service was excellent. We had our anniversary dinner at Viaje this week and everything was wonderful. A clean and well designed eating area with comfortable seating, and attentive and thoughtful service. My wife had the salmon which she said was as good as she has had, and I had the carnitas which were cooked perfectly and came on a black bean purée. The hand made blue corn tortillas were fantastic. We ordered the side of veggies and they were wonderful as well. The flautas appetizer were good, especially because the sauce that came with them was dynamite. Our dessert cake was incredible. Came in for my fiancé's birthday dinner on a Monday night. The service was great, our server was really friendly and attentive. The ambience, for a Monday, was good. Nice music and a pretty indoor space. Now the food. The food actually blew us away. A lot of restaurants want to do upscale Mexican food and a lot of times the authenticity is lost, as well as some of the flavor that makes Mexican food special. Not here. It was my partners birthday so they had a custom printed menu set up for him. We ordered the sopes and shrimp Diablo for appetizers and they were amazing. Lots of flavor and a splash of spice, perfect appetizer. The sopes were soft, flavorful and taste authentic. It's something I'll definitely reorder. I ordered the steak and shrimp and my partner ordered the chicken mole. The presentation was beautiful. I really enjoyed how flavorful was, only downside was there was not too many a la carte sides to order, the sides were tortillas only. It would have been nice to order other options so it left it really hard to choose entrees based on what it came with, especially if you're really hungry. I asked for Mezcal in the Margarita de la Casa and it was made with Tequila and no rim, which wasn't a big deal. The Lemon Drop Martini didn't come with lemon or a sugared rim until it was requested from a different bartender. I think the experience was more of an opportunity for better employee training. Second time around I decided to have my bday dinner and actually try the food this time. I forgot what I ordered for drinks as it was a special from the night, but it was very good. It had tequila, guava and other ingredients, but it was very refreshing and crisp. My bf wanted something with whiskey and lemonade and the bartender aced it! They called it something of a New York whiskey sour or Continental. I myself, who does not like whiskey thought it was perfect. A little smoky, acidic and sweet. _Salmon Al Pastor ($34) axiote, chile guajillo, pineapple, onion, avocado emulsion. I saw this all over the menu so had to try it since I knew our other dish was going to be meat. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Very moist and well seasoned. I will say however, I personally found the dish to be too sweet from the pineapple. It overpowered the salmon and after a few bites it just gave a more sweet profile as to a savory salmon dish. The avocado emulsion is so refreshing and pairs so well with the salmon. Has a whipped and fluffy like texture. _Barbacoa De Cordero ($36) lamb shank, garbanzo puree, chile morita. We had to try the lamb shank as it looks amazing and do not eat it often. My bf and I both enjoyed this dish very much and I highly recommend it. The lamb shank was so tender and just fell of the bone. The seasoning was perfect and did not have a gamy taste but rather a rich umami flavor. It is served with blue corn tortilla which is also amazing, and you can tell it's homemade. They also brought out a sponge cake for my bday which was very good. The cake was moist and had a sponge like texture, topped with strawberries, blueberries, raspberry and whipped cream. Service is great and attentive. My first time there was for my birthday as well when they first opened a few years ago, went back for drinks once, and then this last time. Each time was super enjoyable. What I appreciated most about this place each visit, is the consistency... in thoughtfulness of the staff, amazing cocktails and the food was even better this time. The custom birthday menu is such a nice touch. Simple, but thoughtful. Our lovely waiter, Marlena, was such a treat. She was super kind, knowledgeable of menu items and gave great recommendations, and was just a great server with a pleasant and warm attitude. Serving is not easy, and she navigated our questions and was super attentive with ease - thank you Marlena!! All other staff that supported throughout the evening were also attentive and kind. As for food, I tried the Pescado Zarandeando this time and it was seasoned so well. Sooo bomb. My friend got a steak dish and was equally delighted. We also got the red snapper Ceviche, Pulpo, and Flautas de Barbacoa as starters. All bomb! The sauce with the flautas? ::chef's kiss:: We took most of our entrees home lol. Drinks were refreshing and on point as expected. As satisfied as we were with everything (and full lol) we could not decline the complementary thres leches Lol. We came on a weeknight and there were several folks dining, large and small parties. It wasn't jam packed like my weekend visits, but there were plenty of folks there. Had a great time here with a few friends. We were all driving so unfortunately we didn't try the cocktails. We were concerned that the plates were going to be very small, but that was not the case so we didn't have room for the dessert. The highlights were the ceviche and the chicken mole. I think the chicken mole would have been too big to eat alone; the plantains on the side were delicious. The quesadilla appetizer was amazing but i'm glad we shared it among 4 people-- too rich otherwise. Their bar sleet is very exclusive since they do not cary "famous" brand. To me is a plus since I love drinking different "unknown" or hardly heard of brands. Something that is not too "trendy", your usual brand. The service provided by the staff, our server Javier was very friendly, helpful, and professional. The manager Aletiha was also friendly and professional. Making sure everyone in the restaurant was happy and enjoying their meals. We started with drinks. A vodka martini 10/10 and their house special drink Gemelo Malvado 7.5/10 (it fell short as far as the amount of liquid as a drink. The food was a 10/10 all around. I even went as far as to sneak into the kitchen and thank the chefs for such great tasting dishes. For appetizers we ordered the Caesar salad 10/10 (per my GF) I'm not a fan of creamy dressings and the Chicharon de Ribeye carnitas with guacamole 11/10 (it came with a citrusy and flavorful salsa). Main course we ordered the Barbacoa de Cordero 10/10 (Lamb shank) and their Carnitas plate 20/10. Since we were celebrating our anniversary we were served a delicious 3 leches slice of cake it was just right. Not too sweet not bland or dried. Viaje is a great place to visit for elevated Mexican and Latin inspired food. I really like the way the food was presented - everything came out with vibrant colors and the plating was immaculate. My photos came out looking like something from a magazine. All the food tasted great as well. Stand out items for me were the octopus dish and the whole fish. We went around 4:00 pm, so the dining area was not busy. Zach was our waiter--he was very attentive and gave us great suggestions from the menu. They have a good selection of appetizers, so we ordered the Caesar salad, ceviche, ahi tuna tostada, and short rib sopes. We loved everything, especially the ceviche. Their complimentary chips and salsa were some of the best we've ever had. The cocktails were AMAZING. Ruben was the bartender, and hands down, we were very impressed. These are true craft cocktails--you can tell they use only fresh ingredients and fine spirits. For our entrée, we shared the pescado zarandeado, a grilled, butterflied branzino. It came with three handmade blue corn tortillas and a side of guacamole. We also ordered the black beans and white rice to go with it. Everything was excellent--great flavor and not too heavy, which we appreciated. They were playing a nice Spanish mix of songs at a comfortable volume. By the time we left, the dining area had filled up. We will definitely return to try more menu and drink options. read more
