Chilaquiles, Huevos Rancheros
Sarah L.

I've been to Ancestros twice. The first time was a to-go order and the second time was this past weekend for dine in saturday brunch! The first time I came to pick up my order was a Sunday afternoon and the place was SO PACKED. There was a bit of a wait for my pickup order, but no complaints since I saw how busy they were. This saturday, it luckily wasn't as busy, so we were seated right away. I brought my parents since they've never tried Ancestros before and they both ordered the Huevos Rancheros. I got the chilaquiles and added avocado to mine. The food was absolutely delicious! My parents both couldn't stop talking about how good the food was. I told my dad how Ancestros has a 4.7 rating on Yelp, and he said he didn't doubt it. His plate was wiped clean. The chilaquiles were delicious and sooo filling, I could barely even finish half of my plate! On to the prices, which was my only complaint. The base price for the meals were great, especially in this economy, however, I did not realize I would get charged $4.50 FOR HALF AN AVODCADO!!! If I had known this, I would not have added it onto my chilaquiles. I think for the amount I was given, it should at least be a $2.50 charge for the avocado especially they're going for less at the grocery store. My dad added steak to his huevos rancheros for $7.50, which I can't tell if that's good or not, but he said the steak was cooked well and not overcooked. Overall, the food was delicious, service was great, and my only complaint was the up charge for side items. I would still recommend Ancestros to anyone looking for good Mexican spots in Long Beach.

As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with a smile. Angel attended us and he was gracious and helpful. He allowed us to take our time and answered all of my questions. He had quickly served us each a glass of ice water and chips and salsa. The salsa was superb; it tasted so fresh and had a wonderful flavor. Since we were there at about 2:30 in the afternoon Angel allowed us to order from the breakfast menu which is usually served till 3:00 on the weekends or the main menu. The huevos rancheros I ordered were probably the best I've ever had. My husband really loved the carne asada plate he ordered. Both dishes came with rice and beans and the carne asada came with handmade flour tortillas. We'll definitely be going back and will bring family with us in the near future.

This new location is a must try! I ordered the chilaquiles with asada and green sauce, and it did not disappoint. The portion was filling, the flavors were bold without being overwhelming, and everything tasted fresh and well balanced.. ps. add the steak!! It was tender and juicy. The green sauce had the right level of brightness without being too acidic, and the asada added great texture and depth. For the quality and portion size, the price felt fair. Customer service was great, our server attentive, welcoming, and quick to provide recommendations when asked. It made the experience feel easy and comfortable. I was honestly surprised it wasn't more packed. This place deserves more recognition. It's been hard to find truly authentic Mexican breakfast spots in Long Beach, but this one stands out. I'll definitely be back to try their lunch and dinner menu.

I was in the area and decided to try this place out again. I was greeted and seated. 2 menus and 2 waters were given to us. Our waitress came back a few minutes later and ordered a Menudo bowl , Beef tamale, Mexican Rice, Beans, and a Mimosa. I must say the food was outstanding! Also, our waitress kept coming back and asking how we were doing which was very professional on her part. Made my visit here all so wonderful. I am the first to admit that I was wrong about this establishment. At my last visit, I gave this place a bad review. I am honestly appalled about the comments I have previously stated. A 360-degree turnaround, night, and day experience! All the workers were all so sweet and kind this time around. They give you a lot of food for the price given. You don't feel cheated. If you are in the area, please stop by. Nice ambiance with clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Big Kudos! One of my favorite Mexican foods on LB Blvd now. Service is immaculate!

My husband and I stopped by on a Friday Night. Ancestros is delicious. We ordered a couple of thing to share, along with a couple of beers. We thought the pricing was very reasonable as we got quite a lot of food. The tortillas are made there too. The Fajitas were cooked perfectly and we also had the verde enchiladas. Service was great. We were greeted right away and our server was constantly on the floor and stopping by.

Returned to try their breakfast and the menudo was by far the best thing we had. It came with home made tortillas and all the fixings on the side, including chile. I also tried the chicken tamale plate that came with a side of rice and beans. The chicken was a bit dry, but the green sauce was tasty. The rice and beans were as expected. Overall 3/5 for that dish. Service is great! The staff is extremely attentive.

RAJAS POBLANAS and MOLE ROJO
Amy L.

This place is delicious!! I had the RAJAS POBLANAS and my friend had the MOLE ROJO. Both meals came with freshly made tortillas which were also delicious. We came mid week and it wasn't very busy. The service was quick and the waitress was friendly.

I recently discovered Ancestros restaurant and have already visited three times because the food is both authentic and delicious. I've tried the mole dishes twice: the first time, I had a bone-in chicken leg and thigh, and the next time, I requested mole enchiladas. Although the mole enchiladas aren't on the menu, they are happy to prepare them if you ask. It's rare to find a restaurant that serves mole prepared so well. They also offer Rajas con Queso on the menu, another unique and delicious dish! You can order Rajas with or without meat. Ancestros makes handmade tortillas, both flour and corn, which pair perfectly with the queso fundido appetizer. The staff is friendly, and there are plenty of tables, so you're seated quickly. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated, making it a great place for family dinners or special occasions. The prices are reasonable, and the quality of the food and the variety of options are excellent!

My second time here and I must the food is delicious and authentic tasting. The service is warm and welcoming. The Mole was a good level of sweetness to it but good flavor. Fried Fish is excellent, very moist inside. The Birria Quesadilla is tasty, full flavor. Looking forward to coming back soon. They Menudo on the menu on Sundays.

If you're looking for a place where they sell authentic Mexican food this is the place! The best part is that the place is family owned! My mom and I decided to try the food after hearing the rave about the restaurant! The food tastes like I'm eating at home, the agua frescas are delicious. The service was top notch from the moment we walked in and our server was super nice and attentive. Our server offered us some food Chile Rellenos (not on the menu) and my mom could not stop raving about them, she loved them! The place is very lively with nice decorations and good music.

This may be one of the tastiest, most flavorful salsas I have ever had !!!

I can't say enough about the food & service. My waitress was absolutely amazing. Sweet. Tentative. Very accommodating. This was one of the best Mexican food meals I have ever had. From the chips & salsa to the carne asada meal. The salsa was very unique. I think I could taste the smoked chili. It had such a different flavor. The carne asada was flavorful & tender. Cooked just the way I asked. The flour tortillas were homemade. Soft, thick & chewy. Just the way I like them. The beans were the bomb. Rice was decent. I will definitely be returning. Easy parking right in the front & very clean restrooms.

We have been blessed as of late to have great businesses and restaurants within reach of us. This family definitely earned five stars for the clean and welcoming environment they've created. You will not need to question the quality of the food or the taste. Go with confidence that you will be happy and full when you leave. We will be visiting as often as possible

I love the whole concept and atmosphere; it just felt like the perfect birthday brunch setting. I was especially pressed (in the best way) that they had a dog menu, so of course we had to bring our dog, Shadow, to enjoy it with us; which made the experience even more fun and unique. The food was okay, nothing mind-blowing but still enjoyable for a casual brunch. The drinks, though? Strong! just how I like them, especially for a birthday celebration. But the real highlight was the service. Our server, Emma, was amazing; super attentive, friendly, and really made the whole experience stand out. It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. I will say this: they have some of the best chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, warm, and taste super fresh. I'm a sucker for good chips and salsa. It's easily one of my favorite parts of going to a Mexican restaurant, and they definitely deliver there. Their cocktails continue to be consistently delicious. My absolute favorite is the cucumber jalapeño margarita, refreshing with just the right kick. They never miss on the drinks. As for the food, I've had their enchiladas and tacos before. This last time I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. When I hear "blackened," I expect bold seasoning and flavor. That's not what I got. They were pretty basic and underwhelming for the price. Two tacos for $17, plus an additional $5 per shrimp taco? That felt excessive for what was served. Service was okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Now, the location? You can't beat it. Being upstairs at 2nd & PCH with the Alamitos Bay view is a whole vibe. It's a perfect setting for date night or drinks with friends.
