I have already written a really nice review for Selva a few months ago, but I can't help but give more great reviews, as I'd been coming back for several times in the last 2-3 months. One thing I really appreciate from Selva is its continuous excitement that they offer us. The chef always collaborates with other popular food establishments and it just made me feel like, dang Selva, please come take my money once again! Over the last few months we went to their special nights. The collabs with Joplin Ojai, Waldo Pizza, and Sushi Nikkei. Everything was bomb! Luckily my most favorite dishes during the collabs were actually the ones that were Selva's dishes mainly, so I'm glad I can always come back whenever to repeat the same experience. Thanks Selva for feeding us great dishes!
Every dish we had here at Selva was delicious and the service was excellent. The pulpo es tender and fresh. The tallarín sauce was absolutely perfect. I loved the pine nuts. I asked for a vermouth spritzer and it was great. This is my second time here and I'm looking forward to the third.
First time here and it was a 10/10 experience! Customer service was great, our servers were attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. Drinks were tasty and not light on the alcohol. Food was absolutely amazing! The medium rare was cooked perfectly. Atmosphere was beautiful- low lighting, small dried flowers/vases, beautiful bar, beautiful and spacious booth seating. My Colombian partner absolutely loved the food that reminded him of home. Definitely will return!
Selva has a very cool vibe you can feel upon entering, with its checkered floor, teal bar chairs, dark wood, and alternative rock playing in the background. It also smells like amazing meat which is a huge plus for me. We didn't have reservations so had to sit in the bar area which did include high top booths thankfully. It was our first time and happened to dine during one of their collab nights. We were disappointed at first because we were craving Colombian food. But the limited menu looked promising so we gave it a go. It turned out that everything was delicious. The spare rib was fall off the bone tender and had great smoky flavor. The beans were surprisingly tasty too. (I always find beans an unnecessary and bland accompaniment). I absolutely loved the brisket stir fry. The flavors blended well and it had a nice kick. The meat was so tender and I appreciated the meat to noodle ratio. The chicken inside the empanada was deliciously smoky but not overly so and the crust was the right consistency and crisp. It came with 3 sauces which were good but would have like a more spicier option. I tried two cocktails that were in the collab menu. The black old fashioned was too strong for me. I definitely preferred the buffalo soldier which was tasty and refreshing. My favorite dessert was the Natilla. It was like a flan mousse and so good. The toasted coconut flakes added a nice texture. The oblea was fun to eat. That cream and jam were a great combo. Overall a worthwhile experience. I hope to come back to try their regular menu items.
Tonight was a collab between Selva and Got Your Back. The menu was a mix of Colombian and Filipino flavors. You can pick 3 or 6 of the items. Everything here is so delicious. This is a case of two heavyweights teaming up successfully. Hamachi Crudo: The zippy broth flirts with chimichurri through its vinegar, olive oil, flecks of herbs and chili flakes. The hamachi is firm, buttery, and rich, which pairs brilliantly with the citrusy mix of salsa verde, pastis, and fried shallot bits. The freshness and quality of the fish shines through. A separate plate contains pickled cucumbers, onions, and jalapeños. Coconut Black Cod Sinigang: You can't go wrong with black cod. Its natural state is a rich buttery flavor. In their capable hands, the fish is plump, flaky, and creamy. The sinigang broth is sour and savory that reveals an incredible flavor explosion. A rising tide of lip puckering tartness crests on a sweet smooth note that rewards you with the winning fish bite. The tiny grape tomatoes are ultra luscious, skinless, with the sweetest floral flavor. The long beans are a revelation with unbelievable fresh garden flavor. Lechona: The pork belly lechon is tender, crispy, and nicely marbled. For all that rich porky richness, the plate of house pickled vegetables is an ideal counterbalance of sharp tanginess. Actually the trio platter of sauces is inspiring. The aji amarillo is creamy, tangy, and bright yellow. The red pepper mash is sweet and sour. The chunky green herb sauce is also bright and vinegary. They are all variations of sweetness and zestiness, perfect for dunking the lechon or spoonfuls straight to your lips. The sofrito rice is dense and tasty and the super crispy rice clusters mash the texture dial to the edge. Parking: There's a small cramped lot to the side. Just park at one of the many spots out front.
Selva is a really really good restaurant with Colombian, Peruvian, and Latin American flavors. For a first visit, their scallop appetizer is small, but this signature dish is a flavor bomb that opens up the palate. If you get something on the menu that says its smoked, then you will definitely get some nice smokey flavor. Their arepas con chicharron are intensely flavored with smoked pork belly, chimichurri, and cheese, and served with a side of a trio of salsas. I wanted to order everything on the menu, but settled for their black opal wagyu churrasco, which was skirt steak, perfectly grilled, and served over buttery rice and topped with chimichurri with a side of pickled onions, a lime, and a plantain. The flavor of the chargrilled crust was insanely good and I'm so glad we ordered it. We had room for dessert, so we went with their Single Origin Colombian coffee from MoonGoat, which we paired with two desserts. Got their oblea, which was a wafer that was stuffed with dulce de leche and served with a side of blueberry jam and homemade whipped cream. I told my wife that it was like a huge communion wafer, but they made it gourmet. Went great with our coffee, which had chocolatey and fruity notes. We also went with their bunuelos, which were like corn fritters that were filled with guava jam and served with whipped cream and blueberry jam. These were denser than the other dessert, but they were fresh out of the fryer and a nice way to finish the meal. Selva playfully refers to itself as a "saloon" and we did get some drinks. My wife went with their old fashioned, which was presented nicely with some smoke. I went with a kiwi margarita, which had a nice balance between acidity from kiwi and strong tequila. Overall, Selva is one of the best restaurants I've had in Long Beach as it's full of food with assertive flavor. I have no doubt that I'll be back soon. They do have a happy hour in the bar area from 4-6p and I'm sure I'll be back to have their arepas, wings, and addictive pork belly chicharron.
Had great service late Friday night! Shared the Yukon fritas and they were so good! I could eat a whole plate myself tbh. My friends got the wagyu steak and they said it was lovely. I got the ceviche and it was so flavorful and delicious. Also came with plantain chips. The dipping sauces were scrumptious as well. For drinks I got a cocktail that I can't remember for the life of me- it had gin, champagne, elderflower- strong and delicious. My friends got the el pasion mocktail and it was so good. It was chill on a Friday but we did come in right before last call. Lots of seating, booths, tables and bar seats. I've been craving Selva again- can't wait to go back.
Came here for Date night with good friends. Selva is Colombian inspired food. You have your Meats, your sides and Bandejas that come with several items on a platter. Some of the sides sound a bit different if you aren't familiar with their take on food. It's def delicious but some things can be an acquired taste for sure. We got their Whole Smoked wood fire chicken and for me personally wasn't anything special and a bit dry. Their platanos Fritos were prolly my favorite. We had their Mama's Rice and Frijoles and the white rice wasn't anything out of this world just simple white rice. The beans were flavorful but wasn't a fan of the Niman Ranch flavor added. Their Arepas were very delicious as well as their Papas Bravas those were 10/10 I highly recommend their Morada Sour it was amazing in so many ways I would prolly order that again. The ambiance was great, loved their dining area and loved that it was separated from the bar area. They have Happy Hr but you have to sit on that bar area and they have some food options as well you can order. Our waiter was great and explained the menu a bit as it was our first time so he was helpful and attentive as well.
Amazing!!! This had to have been one of the absolute best dinners ever in LB.the staff was wonderful and the vibe was electrifying. We sat facing the kitchen and man o man, these guys deserve a Michelin star. Everything and I mean everything ordered was super delicious, fresh, flavorful and perfectly prepared. The drinks, appetizers and menu could easily represent LB culinary finest. Nothing but wonderful things to say here. Taste some of everything,the plantains were perfectly charred along with the smoked chicken and potatoes. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It looks small outside but is very intimate inside with seating for all group sizes, a bar area with a TV for all types of events. This is a LB gem, I plan to support to rhe fullest.
Great atmosphere. Food was delicious, bold flavors, good quality, and presented well. I enjoyed the ceviche, chicken wings, and pork belly. The trio of sauces are phenomenal, especially the green citursy sauce. I appreciate that Selva partners with other wonderful local bakeries for their dishes (bread from Gusto and pasta from Nonna Mercato). Service was excellent at the bar. There is limited dedicated parking in the parking lot connected to the resturant. There is street parking though.
Selva was a great dinner experience! I came in for date night with my boyfriend and we loved everything. My family is Colombian so I was happy to see that they had refrajo on the drink menu. ( it's Colombian beer mixed with Colombian soda - it's amazing!) We ordered the arepas with chicharron, steak, and ceviche. Everything was super flavorful and delicious. The butter that came with the steak has sooo much flavor, I put that on everything. Our server Jake ( I believe that was his name) was super friendly and informative. Overall great experience, and will be back.
This restaurant feels small but is serving big flavors. The absolute must try dish is the scallops, they're SPECTACULAR, order one per person, trust me! The whole fish and the stake is really excellent too!! I only tried the passion fruit and mango mocktail and it tasted like they just made me fresh passion fruit and mango juice, it was so fresh and delicious! The service is good, ambiance feels intimate, and there's free street parking.
We came here on a Friday night for our 7 pm reservation for a party of 8. Chris was our server and he was awesome and attentive. He worked really hard running around the restaurant helping his guests. Looked like he had a good team behind him too. The food was great. I enjoyed it so much I forgot to take photos. I loved the quality of food and the family and tapas style. Everything was very delicious. Parking kind of sucked but it is Long Beach. I want to come back on a Monday which features a residency by Got Your Back LB, serving a Filipino-inspired menu with natural wines.

We went last night with a friend and we like the vibes of the restaurant.they have great cocktails. They have rotating menus for summer. We enjoyed the Chicharron appetizer, chicken and Lechon. We got a very attentive and friendly server. This is we consider a neighborhood gem . The only negative is the parking, we went Friday night and can't imagine what is like on Saturday and Sunday nights read more
Selva has been voted one of the best restaurants in Long Beach. It specializes in South American cuisine with traditional and modern Columbian and Peruvian inspired dishes. They rotate their menu based on the season and we had their summer menu. Most dishes on the menu are meant to be shared among the diners. We didn't start out that way but we slowly gravitated in sharing many of the ordered dishes. We ordered the Bonita Farm Green Salad which was a large farm fresh and a nice mixed greens tossed in a cilantro ranch dressing. The mushroom croquettes are a popular menu item and uses Long Beach mushrooms. Another popular item on the menu that we tried was the Pollo Ahunado con Mazamorra or Half a Smoked Chicken wood-fired in oak, mesquite and almond wood. Its pervasive smoke beautifully complemented the spicing and touches of acidity that makes this chicken a clear standout. The Chirizo Tasting gave a great sampler of Argentinian, Columbian and Morcilla chirizos. (The Argentinian was my favorite.) And the Arroz Paisa is a vegetable wok-fried Columbian rice topped with a Blue Egg. Overall, a nice selection of South American dishes in a comfortable and modern ambiance. They also serve a wonderful selection of specialty cocktails and wines. Service was good and attentive. They have limited parking in their adjacent lot or there are lots of street parking near the restaurant. Selva certainly represents a wonderful addition to the growing Long Beach dining scene. read more

Been wanting to try this place and found the perfect time as it was my younger daughters birthday and she loves tapas style meals. We booked an early dinner as I read that this place is on the smaller side and gets really busy on the weekends. We made it early and were the only ones in the small dining room but the bar area was full. We found out why as it was happy hour and you could only get the happy hour dishes and drinks if you sat at the bar. Only problem is they only have tables for two or you can sit at the bar. Made notes of this as there were some dishes that we wanted to try that were only on the happy hour menu. Our waiter Christopher was really great and provided great recommendations that I would suggest you try. The pork chop was really good. I would say that the best pork chop in LA is from Chi Spacca, but this has to be a strong second. The fried rice and chicken wings were really good also. We loved all of the dishes and that's why I gave them a high score. Great food and service. Hint: parking is limited so you may have to park on the street. Their smoke chicken dish is normally not served to after 6:00 pm but we were lucky that they were ready early. read more
Stopped in for happy hour on a Saturday afternoon. Servers very quick and friendly. They were out of a type of drink I wanted but bartender modified mine to work. Had a spicy kiwi margarita. It was spicy but not much kiwi flavor just tasted like a reqular margarita with jalapeno. Also tried the eings. Dipping sauces were great. Chicken was good. Nice place for a date or special occassion. Elegant yet casual. Would stop in again if on the area. read more
Service & food were very good! The chicharron & arepas (didn't catch a picture) were my favorite dishes. The dishes are small, but easy to share & very tasty. This place is serves upscale Colombian food, and the restaurant is perfect for date night. Definitely want to try out their bar menu next time & some other items. read more
We went to Selva on a Saturday night. The food was outstanding. Sadly, service was very slow. Our server mentioned bar & kitchen were backed-up, but they never seemed to catch-up. At one point, our server lost track of our meal and asked what we were still waiting for. At the end of the meal, we thought we were still waiting on a dish, but apparently it had been included with a previous dish. Our bad, but obviously servers were not taking time to explain dishes as they were stopped off. We also had to flag server down when we had questions. He seemed too busy to stop by our table. As for food, my favorite was Bread & Cheese Board!!! So good with all the extras. My husband loved the mushroom Croquette's and the Pork Chop was fabulous. The Yucca fries are also great. Selva is a fun restaurant with a great vibe. As I said, food was great, but slow service and lack of attention made it a mediocre experience. read more
On the 5th of July we decided to venture out to Selva and try their happy hour offerings. At 430pm we didn't need a reservation, lots of tables open. A booth with a view of the bar and some nice Colombian decor on the dividing wall became our home base for the culinary tour. Husband ordered a boom town bad hombre ale, and I, disappointed to find sangria not on the happy hour menu, and settled for a glass of house red. All from the happy hour menu, we sampled the chicken wings, corn arepa, sweet plantains and patacon hogao (Colombian-Style Fried Plantains with Tomato-Onion Sauce). I really wanted to try their hamburger but we got full! The corn arepas were fluffier than I expected with a tender dough and some mild grill marks on the outside. Three sauces came out, a red, green and yellow. Not a fan of any! Give me a chipotle ranch anytime. The fried plantains with tomatoes were only ok, but very dense and filling. I actually prefer them crunchy fried and plain with salt or maybe a spicy creamy dip. The sweet plantains were excellent and we brought half of this huge portion home. The wings were meaty and spicy with a nice crispy skin. Winner! Thanks for a great happy hour experience Selva ! Until next time! read more

An outstanding dining experience from start to finish. The food was exceptional, the service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was beautiful. A special compliment to the chef--his creativity and talent shine through every dish. He has elevated Colombian cuisine in a truly remarkable way, honoring its roots while presenting it with elegance and innovation. Every plate was beautifully crafted and full of flavor. Selva is a gem in Long Beach, and I can't wait to return. read more
Was really excited to get the opportunity to check out Selva, it's rare to find good Colombian food, and right in my neighborhood of Long Beach no less. Parking was easy with tons of street space, and possibly an adjoining lot. Because it was a Sunday night, I made a reservation through Yelp, but there was enough dining space available including open bar seating. I loved the hanging plants and lush jungle theme throughout, true to Selva's name. We ordered the specials for the night. The yellowtail ceviche was very fresh, just wish the plantain chips it was served with was easier to scoop with. The plantain gnocchi had an amazing pesto base and the plantain filling worked better than I expected. We ended our meal with the smoked baby back ribs, also new on the menu, which was smoked for more than 30 hours and slid off the bones. We paired everything with house cocktails - I had the Ron Jamón, a whiskey based cocktail with pork belly washed pineapple rum that had just the lightest hint of both. Special thanks to our waiter Jack who was attentive, despite being the only one working that night. He told us that Monday and Tuesday nights at Selva host a Filipino guest chef, something I'll be sure to check out in the future. read more
Really great experience here! Everything was very tasty. Would give it 4.5/5. It has Michelin vibes but could improve in a few areas to really seal the deal. Enjoyed all of the drinks we ordered from the bar as well as a sampling of the small plates. Good ambiance. Would recommend family style to get the full experience. Food is sort of Brazilian/Peruvian inspired. Comes with many sauces which I loved to sample. There's a very small private parking lot behind the restaurant. May need to park on the street. I came with a reservation on Saturday night and it was half empty which was shocking because the food was so good. They could probably accommodate walk-ins even on weekends. I do think that the food is just slightly overpriced for the portion sizes in comparison to similar restaurants I have been to. For example, 2 small meat skewers was $22 with maybe 4 chunks of meat on it. The fried rice was super amazing but probably about 1 cup of cooked rice for $20. However other things were extremely affordable such as the main skirt steak for $30 and cocktails around $13 each. In addition, I found the service to be just average whereas at this price point I would have expected a bit more friendly service. Including 4 drinks, about 3-4 small plates, and 2 mains we ordered it was about $220 for 2 people. Would recommend if in town but be prepared to spend if you come with an empty stomach! read more

Finally got to try Selva and it did not disappoint. Favorites were the chicken wings & fried rice (too good and ate it all before taking a picture). Ordered a kiwi-Rita pitcher as well. The only reason why this was 4 stars was bc of the short ribs, it was decent and on the special menu, but it was $100 and we weren't aware. Service was great though and the restaurant was cozy, will be back! read more

i came here on a sunday - late afternoon! it was very sparsely patronized. i didn't feel like fighting my way through brunch crowd on a sunday and this was a perfect option. inside is cute and the sun was streaming in and making the place attractive. we noticed the unique light fixtures! the menu is pretty varied - you can even get a burger with the colombian twist. i ended up going with calentado and my friend got the soup of the day. the portions were pretty decent but i finished my dish! the salsas that came with our dishes were all sooo tasty everything was freshly prepared and delicious. it tasted clean and i could tell there was care that went into the dish - it just sort of warmed my insides - eating this! yucca fries were yummy but i could have eaten more of those.... the sauce that came with it was very tasty as well we shared the smaller order between us. i was just ravenous hahahha can't wait to try more things on their menu! if you are down for a more out of the box brunch fare, i would highly recommend this place. read more
Supporting a pop up collab Filipino food on a day they were usually closed. Limited menu options from the pop up and unfortunately they already were out of some items by the time we arrived for a 715 pm slot. For tonight's menu, got the tuna kinilaw (a traditional Filipino version of raw tuna ceviche made with red onions, coconut vinegar plus coconut milk) . Served with a crispy chip sprinkled with furikake powder. Delicious and refreshing. Mixed greens salad was also dressed with coconut vinegar , with thinly shave jicama, carrots. Just the right combination. Pancit canton - yakisoba noodles with vegetables was a bit too sweet for my liking. Chicken inasal skewers first came out undercooked and I sent it back to be refired, the end result was also tender and delicious. Garlic fried rice delicious and satisfying. Kamote or sweet potatoes on a bed of whipped tofu plus drizzled with honey was very tasty! The bibingka dessert ( Rice cake) was also very tasty, topped with a caramel sauce. Our servers seemed to be attentive but also overwhelmed. It might be a temporary staffing issue. The restaurant is usually closed on Monday and Tuesday. I liked the design of the restaurant. It was quiet and casual but still very chic. read more
Stumbled upon the place on Instagram and not only did they deliver on the food, the service and vibes were great! We ordered the scallop crudo which was served up in a shell (outstanding) and then a side of patacones which were so delish. We also had the chicken skewers and arepas (we ordered 3, should have ordered the 5!). For our main we shared the pork loin which was cooked to tenderness and so Delicious. The cocktails were also great and had unique flavors. For desert we got the bunelos and bread pudding. Both delicious. Will definitely be back again. read more

A hipster dive bar with delish food and friendly servers. I've been curious about this place after driving by a hundred times. The menu is enticing and their bar is legit. I ordered the pulpo and yucca fries and both were great. The food is well plated and gives you vibes of Michelin aspirations. Small portions but tasty. I'll definitely come back and try an adult beverage. I ordered a house white that made me wish I didn't. The parking lot exists but is tiny and only has one entrance/exit. You may need to park on the street so be prepared. read more
It was my first time here and I thought their food was delicious. We did get there at 6:30PM and they had ran out of the chicharron which we were all bummed out about because we ordered 5 orders of it but the chef did send out a plate of Peruvian Arroz Chaufa de Carne. I very much enjoyed the Arroz Chafa de Carne. They made it a little different because they added fried plantains to it but it definitely gave the dish an exquisite taste to it. We also ordered the Papas Bravas, Chuzos, Patacones, duck, skirt steak and more. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their dishes. This place gets full both inside and outside. I'd recommend making reservations. Parking is small as well but there is street parking. read more
Dined in on 11/15/24 WOW. Just wow. A little hole in the wall looking spot from the outside on a 'not the greatest main street in Long Beach' is an absolute MUST. Looks are completely deceiving from the outside because this restaurant brings everything top tier. Colombian cuisine in the Zaferia District. Picture this: We had dinner so it was obviously night time. When I walked up to and into the restaurant, it felt like going into a busy but cozy L.A. or N.Y. restaurant. As soon as you walk in, the bar is right in front of you. Make a right and you're greeted with a beautiful dining area. The restaurant is a little dark just in case that's not your vibe. But the decor mixed with the houseplants, wood and the capiz and rattan lamp shades makes the place so beautiful and inviting. Now... on to the food. First off, we ordered drinks: I ordered a malbec to go with my steak. It was a party of 4 and we shared a little of everything. The ceviche: aji amarillo leche de tigre with avocados and served with plantain chips. This was really good and too beautiful to eat. But of course we ate it. Pork belly chicharron: Niman ranch pork belly - This was so good and we finished it so fast that I couldn't get a picture of it. Chuzos: skewered grilled meat with yeast butter. Very flavorful. I think you can get this as skewered veggies too. Farm Green Salad: mixed greens, Colombian farmers cheese, mixed market radishes, seasonal garnishes with cilantro buttermilk dressing. I didn't eat any but everyone else said it was good. Two orders of 24 oz rib eyes cooked perfectly. Yucca Fries seasoned with cumin, garlic and cilantro Spicy mushroom arroz chaufa which is Peruvian style fried rice. This was so bomb. I wanted to eat the entire thing but we were sharing. Didn't want to be stingy. Lol Everything tasted delicious and the presentation was visually satisfying. Server was great in explaining the specials and the food off of the menu. Very attentive. She accidentally knocked over one of our water glasses but was so apologetic. No harm no foul. Overall, 10/10. We enjoyed our meal and the beautiful ambiance. Will be back for more of the Peruvian fried rice and will try their chicken wangs and pork chops. read more

I would definitely recommend a reservation. I went last night (Thursday) and it was slammed at 7:30, including the bar. We eventually got to sit down, but I wouldn't risk it.
