I've been wanting to try selva for a while now and finally got to try their happy hour (4-6 in the bar area) last week. Every dish was so good!! We tried the ceviche, wings, mushroom croquettes, pork belly chicharron, and the selva burger. The ceviche came with plantain chips which was a really good pairing. The croquettes were yummy and cheesy! The selva burger was honestly our favorite. It was valentines day so we also got the oysters with champagne + caviar. This was such a treat! They also had a Beachwood sour as one of their rotating beers, one of my favorites. Overall it was such a great night, the servers were nice and attentive as well. The restaurant was fully packed by the time we left so definitely recommend making a reservation. I can't wait to go back to try more dishes! read more

This is a small, cozy restaurant that we may have easily overlooked if it wasn't for the fact that we have friends in the area. I had a mocktail but judging from my friend's reactions the drinks were strong. The food was really good, everything we had was delicious. In particular, I liked the scallops, but my husband loved the fried rice with chorizo. We came here on a Sunday night around 6pm. It wasn't too busy. We ordered our appetizer and entrees. After 1/2 hour of waiting for the food, one of the entrees came out between the 4 of us. We shared that one. Then 20 minutes later another entree came out, not mine though. I was starving and hadn't planned on making the dinner an all evening event. Then after an hour the last two entrees and the appetizer came out. The server who was really nice said there was only one cook working. I can't imagine the wait times if the restaurant actually filled up that night. There were only about 4-6 tables sat while we were there. Food was good though. read more

Came here for happy hour on Wednesday and it was so packed we ended up in the dining room where we couldn't order off the happy hour menu. Prices on the menu are not cheap - lots of items are market price and appetizers average around $9-$12 each. That said everything is crazy delicious. Cocktail menu is fantastic. Don't miss the specials on the chalkboard near the back of the room like I did. Our servers may have been swamped by the happy hour crowd but they were all very friendly and helpful. Went here the other day for an ad hoc date nite with the wife. She got the recommendation from a friend who typically offers up nice spots. We got there and made me think of how much I missed Long Beach. The vibe was chill. We sat at the bar and ordered off the menu. The drinks were good and the food amazing. The rice pot we ordered late but was maybe the best dish as well as the pork belly and mushroom croquet. Definitely would come back again and recommend to others for an adult group night out. We had to wait about 30 min for a table but it was absolutely worth it. It was super busy night and service was great. Guy behind bar came out to get our order for drinks and food! All dishes came out in about good amount of time. We ordered: Patacon Con Hogao: Just get this dish! Delicious! Peruvian Scallops: Wow! Absolutely delicious. The flavors, sauce, presentation - beautifully done. Pork Belly: Ok, if you like pork belly in general, this is the dish to try. It was made to its perfection. Arroz Chaufa Mushroom: This rice dish was amazing. Flavors, aromas, spices, and mushroom - it a must dish to try. The service, food, and overall vibe was exceptional - we made a reservation (highly recommend doing so) and ordered the market ceviche, Peruvian scallops, arroz chaufa, pork belly chicharron, patacón con hogao, and oblea for dessert. It has potential but the owner Patrick and his staff were kind of rude? and the service was bizarre... went here with a friend and while the food was not bad, everything came out soooo slowly, like painfully, horribly slow... We waited over 30 minutes just for our first appetizer to come out. When we said something after repeated issues, the server just shrugged and said the kitchen was busy. But.. there were only maybe 3 other tables full when we sat down and placed our order during a normal dinner service on a week night. I'm not sure what the issue was... but I could tell they were annoyed at me for saying anything. Selva Never Disappoints! Selva never disappoints me! I tried the new chef special--the artichoke--and it was my first time ever having one. It turned into a fun little adventure, haha. The waiter joked, "You still need to eat the heart," and I was like, "Ohhh!" We laughed--it was a great moment! I also had my usuals: the mushroom croquettes (so good!), the chuzos (beef skewers), and the ceviche. To drink, I had the Amor mocktail--oh my gawd, everything was absolutely delicious, as always. Selva never fails me. Yes, it's on the pricey side, so come prepared with some cash or your credit card--but honestly, it's totally worth it. Food: Three-stars Service: Five-stars Atmosphere: Five-stars A restaurant in Long Beach that felt like a hidden gem. The dining area had a dark wooden tone that added to the overall ambiance. The entrance led to an amazing displayed bar with screened televisions on top. However, Selva has limited parking on the side, and during busy hours, it can be a challenge to find a spot. Additionally, getting in and out of the parking lot can be a bit tricky due to the rush of traffic on Anaheim St. I suggest finding street parking, even if it means to drive a block or two over. The service at the restaurant was fantastic, and while we ordered more than what is listed below, some of our orders never came out. It was unclear whether it was due to them being out of stock or if they just never made it to our table. Regardless, I appreciated that the kitchen didn't rush our order when we notified our server that we did not receive all of our meals. Instead, they took the items off our order, which was a thoughtful gesture. What I ordered: RAFAJO COLOMBIANO (cerveza and Colombian soda) - Ordered a pitcher. This is a mix of Pale Ale and Inka Cola. Cultural and delicious! PORK BELLY CHICHARRON (Niman Ranch pork belly) - I have mixed feelings about this order. The pictures online looked way tastier than what was presented. The texture of the pork was good, but I expected more. I think I overhyped myself for this. GRILLED SPANISH OCTOPUS (​charred octopus, grilled seasonal veggies, red chummi aioli, yucca strips) - I would SKIP this appetizer. The presentation was pretty. However, for the price and the size of the tentacle, it wasn't worth it. We sliced this baby octopus arm into six pieces, and it came to be the size of a dime, so sad for a sharing plate. SPICY SMOKED POLLO (full) - I'm glad that the chicken was not as a whole but rather chopped into multiple pieces, which made it easier to munch. This was my FAVORITE dish of all. Definitely, order it if it's available. Also, make sure to ask for their spicy green sauce, which pairs well with the chicken. The other three standard sauces are also good with the chicken. YUCCA FRIES (cumin, garlic, cilantro) - Crunchy and a good side order for a group. RIBEYE (24 oz Bone-In) - This item was their Daily Special. We do not regret ordering this. HOWEVER, the menu on the wall DID NOT state that it was Bone-In. There is an extra two or three ounces lost when you consider the weight of the bone. A Top 101 LA County restaurant. Went for my Moms Birthday to mixed reviews. The good: The sides/appetizers are by far the best items on the menu. Colombian street food taken to the next level! Highly recommend the bunelos that were the best I've ever eaten (And I travel to Colombia monthly. Over 150 trips in the past decade). Go during their Happy Hour with friends/family and order 1 of each to taste the variety. The bad: The kitchen refused to cook the steak Medium Well. Unfortunately, Colombians always burn their steaks and burgers. It's something that's accepted and done at 90% of their restaurants. I just assumed we wouldn't have an issue at a Colombian restaurant. My mom always orders Well done and I tried to explain to the server that since we were there for her birthday to ask the chef to overcook it. We ended up boxing it to go and cooking it to her liking the next day. I'm familiar with fine dining etiquette and Chef standards as I've worked at a 5 Diamond dining establishment previously. Just disappointed that the main courses weren't more varied. I'd go back but only for the Test Kitchen events or Happy Hour. But come on: this isn't even top 101 in Long Beach, let alone Los Angeles (as the LA Times considers it). Drinks menu was limited. Food was greasy. Pork belly was tough, as it didn't come out warm enough. Braised greens were over-vinegared. Corn arepa was just a slab of cheese circles, fried in an exxon tanker of oil. After my 5th visit to Selva, I can safely say that this restaurant is IN THE ROTATION! Delicious, consistent, has the vibes, love it. Heavy hitters: The sauces that come on the side - my fav being the chimichurri. I always ask for more. - Mushroom Croquettes - a perfect little bite of sweet, spicy, truffle-y, savory. Note: it really is a tiny little bite - Peruvian Scallop Crudo - Refreshing, tangy and a burst of flavor. - Pork Belly Chicharron - Perfectly cooked, crispy but also melts in your mouth? - Arroz Chaufa - I wasn't expecting too much from a fried rice, but this fried rice is IT. So much flavor packed into this dish. - Sweet Plantains - I get this every single time and could also be part dessert and you get so much of it. I just really love plantains. - Ceviche (specifically the daily special salmon ceviche) that comes with plantain chips - The best sharing appetizer. The plantain chips (which you can also order as a side) are the perfect vehicle for the ceviche. Everything else: ALL have been wonderful. There hasn't been a dish here that I haven't liked, especially since all the dishes have so much flavor. There is also a daily specials menu (protein or type of ceviche) that is great. Cocktails are all excellent here. My favorites being the la frambuesa and pisco mel. They pair well with all of the food and feel like a vacation. Service here is 10000/10. Everyone is wonderful and knowledgeable. It is a decently sized restaurant (for Long Beach), we have sat at the bar, in the bar area, and the main dining area. I do recommend a reservation 'cause it can get busy on the weekends, week days are easy for walk ins. There is a small parking lot on the side/back if not it's street parking and we have always been able to find some with a little bit of patience. We were only two but wanted to sample lots of dishes on the menu. It was difficult to choose so we ordered a lot more than we could eat with the plan to have lots of leftovers. Everything was so good, we finished every single plate. The waiter was helpful guiding us through the menu and helping us making choices. One thing I really liked was that the whole menu is gluten free except for a few dishes. We started with the Peruvian scallop crudo. It had a lot of flavor and was marinated well, with a bit of lemony flavor. Then we got the sea scallop arepas, those were also amazing. The arepas gave it a nice texture too. They had a seasonal special which was a smoked oxtail soup. It did not disappoint. The meat was very tender and just fell off the bone. There is some rice, onion and avocado in the soup as well. Great dish and not heavy at all. We also got chuzos which are meat skewers. The meat was cooked to a medium, and was very tender and good quality, well seasoned. The smoked pollo was juicy and the skin was very crispy which gave it a nice consistency. We finished with the lamb chaufa. The lamb had smokey flavor which was quite unique delicious. However, I thought there could have been more meat in the dish. I also thought the rice lacked flavor. This left me a bit disappointed. Overall, the food was excellent except for the chaufa, and the service was great. It's rare to be pleased with so many dishes, I will definitely be back. read more
