I didn't eat anything here because there was only one vegetarian dish. But my husband loved the food here , we visited this place twice on the same day. For lunch, he got the tri colored fish ceviche which he loved and for dinner he got Arroz a la chiclayana con Pollo. Both the dishes looked amazing. I even tasted the coriander rice and it delicious. Delicious! Decor is super cute. Restaurant looks great. We were approached right away by a server. She asked if we spoke Spanish, then proceeded to explain that they were short-staffed and food would take 30 minutes. We were fine with it and appreciated the communication. BTW her English was great. She didn't need to worry about explaining to us. She brought us our beers and some yummy roasted Peruvian corn. Dinner came out and it was delicious. The beef in the Lomo Saltado was incredibly savory and the Pollo Costa Verde was a little spicy and delicious. We were very happy with dinner. Avoid. They are closed even though their hours say differently. We drove 2 hrs to try this place because it has 4.0 stars. It was closed. Online in several sites it says they should be open. Read the bad reviews first. Know what you are getting into. Then if for some reason you are still curious, look at the good reviews, see their profiles, so many are fake accounts and staff taking photos from their kitchen acting like they are regular customers. I saw online they say yuca is $6 but charged $7.20 THEN charge you tax AGAIN. PLUS 4% surcharge. Yikes. Please fix these issues. Some ppl say y'all's food is decent, why mess that up with random hours, crazy charges, and blaming the neighbors for cockroaches you have in your restaurant. Just say we will do better and actually do better and then y'all will have tons of ppl traveling to eat at your restaurant. Please be aware that this restaurant appears to have changed owners and menu. Also...below. Came in based on the amazing Yelp pictures and website as I love Peruvian and was looking to try their causa and pulpo. When we arrived, we received menus (see pics) that did not reflect the menu items shown in Yelp pictures and reviews. The server knew very little English to the point where basic ordering was challenging to do. The pisco sours appeared to be made with margarita mix. It was slightly green, cloyingly sweet and for almost $13, something you might find in a sports bar. Not resembling a craft sour at all. We ordered mixed ceviche. That was actually fairly good, though it had a ton of calamari rings and the white fish was stringy. That said, we had two cockroach sightings in a 30 minute period, one to left and right of me on the booth seat. I let out a blood curdling scream. We let the server know "cucaracha!!" The server was earnest in her search for the first one and caught the second one. She is the best part of this review because she escalated the issue to her manager who apologized and kind of blamed it on a neighbors roach problem. He offered to discount, then comp the ceviche. We were too bugged out (pun intended) to stay for dinner. In fairness, the food that we did try wasn't bad but the restaurant felt like a bait and switch between the Yelp profile and true menu and roaches were a dealbreaker. Will not return. read more

My friend is Peruvian and he always tells me to try their food with him. We went to a place in la which had a lot of reviews, but no it was not worth the hype for the lomo saltado. This place though was delicious when we ordered that and his favorite is the fried corn chips. I do recommend here, but it is a little pricey and the waiter wasn't very attentive with getting us drinks. Still not bad to try if you're new to Peruvian food. What an incredible surprise this place was. We usually go to Aji to get our Peruvian, but this place was every bit as good if not better than aji. The presentations were well done if not a bit too contrived. On the tallarine beef I would have preferred the fries mixed into the sauté pan with the filet. But it tasted very good just the same. The corn in the ceviche was great. I highly recommend this place. You gotta go if you like Peruvian cooking, they do it right at azucar, which means "sugar" and this place is sweet. read more

Small spot in Long Beach. Has a little parking lot right ahead of it. Ambiance is very nice and clean with nice aesthetics. They did not have the full menu available when we went in but still has a good selection. We got the Lomo Saltado, the Nikkeia rice and also the shrimp ceviche. We came in on a Thursday night and a soccer game between Brazil and Colombia was going on. There was a little crowd. The drinks came out quick and the food followed shortly after. Had the bandeja paisa and the saltado and a couple of arepas de queso. The food came out fairly quickly and the portions were sizable. The food was delicious and the service that much better. Definitely want to come back as the service and food were great. My only regret was that Colombia lost 2-1 in extra time. Next time guys!!! read more

This place was fantastic! I went here with my date and both of us agreed we would want to come back. The ambiance was fantastic and aesthetically pleasing, our server was extremely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and the food was really delicious. I had the Lomo Costa & Sierra and my date had the Pulpo brasero. For my dish, the steak and shrimp were cooked just right and the fries were fresh and crispy. Finding Peruvian corn in the accompanying rice was a nice touch as well. However, my date's dish was the real star of the evening. We were hesitant to order octopus since it's usually hit or miss with how it's cooked, but this was cooked perfectly. It had a nice char and the octopus was not tough or chewy but extremely flavorful with the spices and chimichurri sauce. the accompanying vegetables were cooked wonderfully as well. After yoga with my friends, we decided to grab some brunch here. This spot is owned by a young Cuban couple, and Azucar is actually their second establishment. Their first spot is in Whittier by the name of Sage Social Eatery. The owner, Jorge, offered us some sangria or mimosas to start, but we decided to opt out for water instead. FOOD: We decided to share a couple of dishes between the 4 of us. EMPANADAS - If you cannot decide on an appetizer, definitely order the empanadas. You can't go wrong! It comes with this delicious sauce. YUCA CON CHICHARRON - We had originally wanted Papas Rellenas, but htye didn't have any at the time. This appetizer was very interesting. It reminded me of a chunky potato salad, but with just yuca and crispy bits of chicharron. RABO ENCENDIDO - The braised oxtail was super tender and fall off the bone. This was probably my favorite entree out of the 2 choices we made. ROPA VIEJA - This dish was super flavorful, but Ropa Vieja isn't my usual go-to when it comes to Cuban food because most of the time the prime beef is too stringy for me. GUAVA & CREAM CHEESE DUTCHBABY PANCAKES - This was a shareble treat. My friend, who's super into desserts, really liked the texture and everything in it altogether. AMBIANCE: I love how the place is made up of furniture and decor found by Jorge in thrift shops. He had mentioned he'd buy some things then modernize them. Went here after seeing an IG post (that clearly was paid for). Slow service when it wasn't busy, not attentive server the manager stepped in. Served my husband cold food (lomo saltado). Flavor was there but unfortunately poor kitchen standards. Menu was much smaller than I was anticipating, pictures on the window not even available. All apps were seafood not great for someone with shellfish allergies. We did not wait for my food to come. We paid for our drinks and left. We were really looking forward to trying more Peruvian food in the area and this place came up short. It was a Saturday date night with my Man's...We thought we'd give this place a shot... it is right around the corner from our casa. This place was delicious. The vibe... the service. Just over all!!!! The mojito flights were so good. But the star of the show was definitely the Oxtail!!! So so delish! Chefs kiss! I would have totally gave them 5 stars but there was a bit of a language barrier.....when we ordered our drinks we also ordered two plates of the oxtail dinner. We waited almost an hour for our food. My husband and I went here for a date night last night. No kids, thinking we'd save money not having to buy 4 meals. Wrong. First, the food we had was very good. I would rate it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Few issues: 1. We were the first ones in the restaurant at about 5:00pm. Took quite a while to get two beers and when we did order our food it took awhile to get to the table. 2. If we would have known a 11.2oz beer was $9.36 a piece, we probably wouldn't have order them and they were Luke warm. 3. Menu was very limited. Maybe about 12 options including appetizers. There was no pricing next to the food choices and drinks. 4. Our bill was $95 for two entrees and three beers. The food portions were not that big. Again, it was delicious, but there is no way a bottled beer should be $9 and my husbands entree of a few steak slices and a small pile of pasta is $31. As a family of four, on average we spend about $100-115 going out to dinner (including drinks). Way too expensive and deceiving on the pricing. Granted, we should have asked and that falls on us. Food good. Everything else... not good. Maybe if they skipped the gold foiled napkins that look like they cost about $2 each, they can reduce their food prices and make it affordable for the average Joe to eat. read more

So I wanted to check this place out because it looked good from the videos I've seen and it's in my city. I have to say.... I won't be coming back and here's why. I looked at the menu and saw the prices and I was like DAMN that's pretty high but I'm here and I'm going to give it a try. I ordered the fettuccine with lomo saltado. The meat was cooked pretty good but the sauce was not cooked with the meat so it felt like a gravy sauce was just put over the meat. The sauce was not the best. The fettuccine was missing some thing and I'm not quite sure what it was but it had potential. If I'm paying around $30 for a plate.... I expect it to be good and worth the money. I'm sorry to say it, but they're not gonna last if they don't fix their food and or fix their prices. I'm just keeping it real as a cook myself. It's a cute place and they're friendly. Azúcar Caribbean Cuisine is an awesome new addition to Long Beach. They've been open for about a month now and are located in the Hellman neighborhood near the corner of 10th & Orange. They've brought some super delicious Cuban & Caribbean food to Long Beach and you gotta check it out. I was recently invited down for an intro to their offerings. Here's what I had amongst a few other things. I'll admit I'm not a big fan of paella. But this one is legit good. I'd definitely order it again and would recommend it. It consisted of sautéed Cuban-style saffron rice with fresh clams, mussels, fish, calamari, shrimp, and a whole crab. It's definitely a seafood lover's delight. It was slightly herbaceous while maintaining a seafood savory that didn't dominate the dish. This is just one of the specialties offered.
