The nicest thing was that the ladies taking orders also circulated around the restaurant to check in with people constantly and make sure they were cool as they waited for their orders. Now, the food: Those smothered ribs are fire! OMG, all the sides, delicious, crazy good Gouda mac & cheese, yummy mashed potatoes, and totally off the hook greens with cabbage and smoked turkey. I could eat this like every day! They do have oxtail, lots of fried chicken and fish, and a ton of other stuff, I'm just waiting to work my way down the menu. I tried a bit of everything: suadero (meat from the breast bone), al pastor (marinated pork) pollo, lengua, cabeza, buche, carne asada. Very tasty meats. Everything was very tender and each street taco was filled to overflowing. Quick takeout service plus convenience of paying by Venmo or Zelle! The condiments are laid out for you to pack. Included cucumbers, cilantro mixed with chopped white onions, sliced radishes and lime wedges. Loved the shredded red onions with shavings of more hot peppers on the food. Let me tell you as a friend: the salsas range from oh that's spicy to my mouth is on fire and my eyes and nose are watering! The creamy green sauce was the mildest but still had a kick, then the roasted tomatillo was a notch higher in heat, followed by an exponential increase in the red pepper sauce with sub-atomic heat; then what I thought was sriracha mayo turned quickly to be nuclear in my mouth!! I'm usually okay with spice but I found myself washing out my mouth at the sink then reaching for yogurt just to calm the fire down! Very courteous man took the orders while his companions made the food in the truck. Also had horchata available. Will be happy to try more of the food offerings like burritos and quesotacos next time. A small steady crowd came and went so not a long wait for my dozen tacos. I did a little checking on the program in my area and learned more about the vital support this organization provides. Kevin mentioned a food truck fundraiser for the group; I thought it sounded pretty cool - next thing you know I received an invite to his PYE! Food trucks, getting together with some great Yelpers, and helping a good cause - that's a five star combination - we were in for sure! Five trucks in were in attendance, a priority for my wife was having a healthy meal. In addition I had been a fan of Sam Choy during Chopped "Grill Masters" competition. Therefore, we gravitated toward his Pineapple Express truck. I was disappointed many of their menu items were unavailable. We ordered several items - some hits, some misses. There were tables set up with outside and inside seating available. A solo live musician entertained the inside seating area (some hits and some misses with him too!), volunteers greeted us and offered comment cards for feedback on the event. This was Kevin's First PYE! A fun group of Yelpers that included Rodney S, Laina and Rohlin A, Ruth T, Dave G with his family, and a few others were fortunate enough to join Kevin and his father. I noticed several of the volunteers came by to say hello to Kevin's dad, I could tell the volunteers truly cared about him, and valued him as a client of their service. It was nice to see. 10% of the proceeds from the trucks went to Meals on Wheels, plus we were able to donate directly to a collection container at our table. In addition to putting together a fun group, Kevin arranged for two indoor tables to be reserved for our group - felt like VIP's! Worked out very well - guaranteed seating, and a home base to come back to when going to try another truck. Our crew shared a bit of everything fried squash, queso, ceviche, enchiladas, and their verde chilaquiles with over easy eggs and chicken. Each of these items were delicious, but I'd return for the ceviche and chilaquiles. The ceviche was a delicious mix of sweet and salty. Their tortilla chips are made fresh in-house and paired perfectly with the fresh cut fish. I was also impressed by their cocktails. With family in town, we visited a number of fan-favorite restaurants across the coastline. Panxa stole the show for best mixed drink: the watermelon margarita. Excited to live so close and make this a consistent haunt.
