I tried this restaurant for the first time today, and I absolutely loved the aesthetic. It felt so cozy and authentic, almost like I was eating at someone's home. The ambience really stood out to me as well as the service. All the little figurines, artwork, and details gave the space so much character and warmth. The food was good too. The beans and rice were definitely my favorite, and when I go back, I think I'll try something different just to explore more on the menu. For my first visit, it was such a good experience. This place is a gem. I really loved the atmosphere at Rivera's--the vibe, the photos on the walls, and just the overall feel of the spot. I didn't catch our server's name, but he was super cool and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. I came in pretty hungover and had heard they serve really good menudo... and I'm so glad I listened. As soon as I walked in, I heard a lot of Spanish being spoken and saw multiple tables ordering menudo, which felt like a great sign--and it absolutely delivered. This is some of the best menudo I've ever had, hands down. It seriously cured my hangover. I was also stoked to see they carry my favorite Mexican beer, Victoria, so I had a little hair of the dog to go with it. Perfect combo. My girlfriend ordered a margarita and it was delicious too--fresh and well made. I'm really happy I found this spot and I'll definitely keep coming back, especially for that menudo. I came here because I was craving pozole and Rivera's didn't disappoint. The pozole was very rich and hearty. And had great flavor. The meat was generous compared to a few places I've been to. I also ordered the mini flautas which were really good as well - crispy and meaty. I was surprised by the size which was bigger than I had anticipated. Yay for me. Not pictured but also tried a burrito based on other reviewers. Everything inside the burrito was tasty and well balanced. Since I ordered pick up I cannot comment on the restaurant side because there is a separate "to-go" room on the corner of the restaurant with its own entrance. This restaurant is in the neighborhood that I grew up in, but I had never eaten there! It looks small, and maybe focused on takeout from the street, but looks can be deceiving! Inside is actually a fairly large dining room, encompassing 3 rooms. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is apparent that many customers are regulars. If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! It's located on a busy street and parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time you come. We came as an office ( 5 of us)for lunch on Tuesday afternoon and found parking across the street. We were greeted at the door and sat down right away. We were offered chips and salsa. We looked through the menu a few minutes and our orders were taken. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us throughout our time there( and refilling our drinks as needed). Our food maybe took about 10-15 min to come out. For appetizers we shared shredded beef flautas which were delicious! They came with sour cream, salsa and guacamole. For my a drink I ordered an horchata was the perfect amount of sweet and rice flavor. For my entree I ordered the crispy chicken tacos combo that came with rice and beans. Walking in I didn't know what to expect but my wife told me that she has heard nothing but great things about this hidden gem. Parking is a little limited no parking lot at location just street parking. Walked in and was amazed by the art on the wall. Service was great server's were nice. Rivera's is a gorgeous Mexican place in Long Beach, it's decorated beautifully, the food is awesome and the service is great. It's been a few years since we've been here they do close early at 7:00 p.m. so it makes it a little hard for us to get off of work at 5:00 and come across town to be here although they will stay open if you're in already before 7:00 according to the waiter. So today is February 16th 2025 we came in around 1:00 and it was a steady pace of customers waiting to be seated we were seated in less than 10 minutes. The restaurant was themed for Valentine's Day which was perfect for me and my husband and it is a long holiday weekend so we had extra day on our hands to do something so we decided to stop in. I chose a cup of pozole and the day special of beef picado and my husband chose carnitas. Both plates are served with a great portion of beans with generous cheese and side of rice both served with guacamole and sour cream. The posole was so very good and it was a very generous portion with pork in it for the cup size. The steak picado is very well served in more of a sauce that has tomatoes onions and a little bell pepper and a generous amount of meat served in a side bowl, very mild in flavor and tasty although I would call this more of a guisado, because of the juice in the meat, I usually order this dish at Mexican restaurants and it is not served in a sauce but I'm okay with it as it was tasty and very well served and seasoned. The carnitas were very tasty and served with that little crisp on the meat that makes it what it is very well seasoned and juicy. The days special on the menu was the steak pecado for $14.95 the carnitas I think were $18.95 but we're not on special. The salsa that they put out is a standard not hot salsa for the chips, you have to ask for something spicy and oh yes it's spicy it is a green salsa verde that is delicious. Our waiter was very courteous and patient with us. The restaurant is decorated in the theme of mostly Diego Rivera and Frida, lots of nostalgic pictures and photos all over fun place to dine in although it is small they can accommodate you as long as I think you make a reservation it's convenient that way as they have also a room that can accommodate about 60 people and offer it with table linens and chairs that are covered with a choice of three meats rice beans I believe the waiter said like $1,500. I would see using this room as maybe a daytime party as they do close at 7:00 I'm not sure but I don't think they would accommodate much more time after that for this room either but I guess you could ask it is very nice I wouldn't expect to see such a room in a small dining area off to the side but yes it's there! So I hope to come back here sooner than later to make my rounds out here again this really is a nice little establishment run by this family and they know what they are doing. read more

Rivera's is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Long Beach. The food is fantastic, and they make great Menudo and Pasole daily. We start all of our meals with the homemade menudo. As you can see from the pictures below my husband's bowl was empty. This was the second time he tried menudo and Rivers's is his favorite. The staff is friendly and George, the owners son is wonderful. We love to sit at the heart table ( that's what they call it) where we sit side by side and enjoy our meal. Our favorite is the # 10 carnitas with beans and rice. The carnitas are absolutely delicious!The margaritas on the rocks are great! Every time we come to Long Beach we make it a point to have dinner at Riveras's. It's a hidden gem in Long Beach and well worth it. It's not fancy, it's homey and the food is delicious!
