Steak picado with beans. Pretty good and spicy!
Hazel G.

Takeout at Rivera's! There is a takeout section at this restaurant on the corner of 7th and Gladys...right next door (7th St) is the sit down section. Friendly gentleman greeted us and was able to answer a few questions for me. He directed us to a lady who was dry as ice...go figure! Direct answers with zero interaction. Ordered steak picado plate which was quite delicious if you enjoy spice! Fried beans and flour tortillas were exceptionally delicious. Chips and salsa on the side were included...loved the chips. My friend enjoyed a carnitas torta which looked quite perfect. Would I return? Maybe. Why? The sit down section looked inviting and friendly. And food was quite tasteful.

If I can give this place 10 stars I would. Family owned and you can feel the love in this place. Everything here is delicious. We come here for the posole and micheladas. Love chatting with the servers always so professional and kind even when restaurant is busy. Love this place.

6 Mini Flautas
Crystal D.

I came here because I was craving pozole and Rivera's didn't disappoint. The pozole was very rich and hearty. And had great flavor. The meat was generous compared to a few places I've been to. I also ordered the mini flautas which were really good as well - crispy and meaty. I was surprised by the size which was bigger than I had anticipated. Yay for me. Not pictured but also tried a burrito based on other reviewers. Everything inside the burrito was tasty and well balanced. Since I ordered pick up I cannot comment on the restaurant side because there is a separate "to-go" room on the corner of the restaurant with its own entrance. But the service was friendly and welcoming. And even the small area had cute decor.

Came here on a Tuesday around 11am did a reservation over the phone. Street parking, two bathrooms, attentive service. Menu kinda small but everything we ordered was good. Got the wet burritos they were warm and big. The chips and salsa were good. The Jamica juice was good amount of sweet. The menudo was a bit spicy but good texture. All in all would come again.

This restaurant is in the neighborhood that I grew up in, but I had never eaten there! It looks small, and maybe focused on takeout from the street, but looks can be deceiving! Inside is actually a fairly large dining room, encompassing 3 rooms. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is apparent that many customers are regulars. The food is excellent and authentic Mexican fare. Prices are fair. The decor is vibrant and interesting! All I all, it was a very enjoyable experience with my family. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to stop in!! I'll be back.

Amazing pork tamale with fresh green chili , with the perfect amount of masa. I brought it home to try, and as always, it was excellent.

The food is phenomenal, it gets better every time I go because I try something new all the time, today I had the pozole, it was perfect, with warm tortillas and a ice cold beer. I brought home a pork tamale and it was over the top cooked to perfection. I love this friendly family owned restraunt, their hospitality is so warm and inviting, no matter how busy they are. Thank you so much for the delicious food and thank you for always making me feel welcomed.

If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! It's located on a busy street and parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time you come. We came as an office ( 5 of us)for lunch on Tuesday afternoon and found parking across the street. We were greeted at the door and sat down right away. We were offered chips and salsa. We looked through the menu a few minutes and our orders were taken. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us throughout our time there( and refilling our drinks as needed). Our food maybe took about 10-15 min to come out. For appetizers we shared shredded beef flautas which were delicious! They came with sour cream, salsa and guacamole. For my a drink I ordered an horchata was the perfect amount of sweet and rice flavor. For my entree I ordered the crispy chicken tacos combo that came with rice and beans. Very flavorful and authentic taste like I mentioned above. I will definitely be back here for a date night with the hubby!

Bean & Cheese Burrito

Bean & cheese burrito from the to-go counter clocks a decent $7.25, generous size, plenty of flavor. Soft and just all around perfect. Legendary spot.

Loved the decor. The food was delicious! I see why they were named Best Nachos in LA. The place has such a home feel

I had heard good things and been wanting to try the place for a while. Other than the parking(but of course that's Long Beach) we had a most excellent experience! Careful cause I didn't realize they close kind of early on Sundays, but we got in just in time. The food was really good, but the price was what will keep me coming back!!! It's rare you can get a meal for under $20 but here u can plus good size portions! There's a lot of decor inside, but let me tell u, they have a really incredible banquet room! And very reasonably priced from what we were told. Almost trying to come up with a reason to have an event to use the banquet room! Hah, definitely give the place a try if you're in the area.

Delicious cheese enchilada plate
Larraine J.

This food was bomb and what I was craving The only thing I didn't like too much were the bell peppers and onions in my wet burrito. Enchiladas and beans were so good. Pozole super on point. Spicy and fulfilling. I'm sad I'm only just now trying this place as I'm moving but will be eating from here before I go including todays dinner

Chips and salsa w/ Diego and Frieda

We've been coming here every week for about a year now. It's our end of the week treat! The Rivera family is so kind to us and the food is always delicious. We are very grateful for their hospitality. Love the decor and ambiance as well. We recommend Rivera's to everyone! Beef flautas are seriously the best I've ever had. Tamales are fantastic as they put an enchilada sauce on them that is ::chef's kiss::. The margaritas are divine. Really can't say enough good things about this place.

Rivera's is a gorgeous Mexican place in Long Beach, it's decorated beautifully, the food is awesome and the service is great. We went there close to noon and had some delicious breakfast: Huevos rancheros and Huevos con machaca with nopal. Both were great. I also had a great michelada. This was a memorable brunch surrounded by Frida , Diego and their paintings and tons of cool memorabilia. Lovely place, I'll be back

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / June 8, 2023

We went there for Mothers Day Brunch, there was no outdoor seating. Maybe during Covid they had it.

What time do you close on Friday nights? Yelp says 7, and your website says 8. That's very early for dinner on a weekend.

We do close at 7pm, we are a family own business with only one shift. We come very early to prep for the day. If you are in by 7pm we would gladly serve you, sense we leave everyday until 8:30pm. Hope to see you.

When are tamales offered? I didn't see them on the menu. I saw another unanswered question about…

We have tamales available. Chicken, Beef, Pork and cheese. We have them in our daily menu a la carte for $4.98 or by the dozen at $29.98. If you would like to place a large order we suggest to call days in advance.

How big is the outdoor dining area in regards to social distancing?

It is a few tables spread out along the sidewalk next to the restaurant. The tables seemed spaced out pretty decently with plenty of room between. I haven't sat there, just saw the outdoor dining when picking up food or passing by.

Do they use tequila or wine based?

I assume you are asking about their margaritas.. Tequila based..

Are their potato tacos any good?

Yes they are amazing. You can not go wrong with anything on the menu

The food was okay, nothing mind-blowing but still enjoyable for a casual brunch. The drinks, though? Strong! just how I like them, especially for a birthday celebration. But the real highlight was the service. Our server, Emma, was amazing; super attentive, friendly, and really made the whole experience stand out. It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. It's easily one of my favorite parts of going to a Mexican restaurant, and they definitely deliver there. Their cocktails continue to be consistently delicious. My absolute favorite is the cucumber jalapeño margarita, refreshing with just the right kick. They never miss on the drinks. As for the food, I've had their enchiladas and tacos before. This last time I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. When I hear "blackened," I expect bold seasoning and flavor. That's not what I got. They were pretty basic and underwhelming for the price. Two tacos for $17, plus an additional $5 per shrimp taco? That felt excessive for what was served. Service was okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Now, the location? You can't beat it.
