Steak picado with beans. Pretty good and spicy!
Hazel G.

Takeout at Rivera's! There is a takeout section at this restaurant on the corner of 7th and Gladys...right next door (7th St) is the sit down section. Friendly gentleman greeted us and was able to answer a few questions for me. He directed us to a lady who was dry as ice...go figure! Direct answers with zero interaction. Ordered steak picado plate which was quite delicious if you enjoy spice! Fried beans and flour tortillas were exceptionally delicious. Chips and salsa on the side were included...loved the chips. My friend enjoyed a carnitas torta which looked quite perfect. Would I return? Maybe. Why? The sit down section looked inviting and friendly. And food was quite tasteful.

6 Mini Flautas
Crystal D.

I came here because I was craving pozole and Rivera's didn't disappoint. The pozole was very rich and hearty. And had great flavor. The meat was generous compared to a few places I've been to. I also ordered the mini flautas which were really good as well - crispy and meaty. I was surprised by the size which was bigger than I had anticipated. Yay for me. Not pictured but also tried a burrito based on other reviewers. Everything inside the burrito was tasty and well balanced. Since I ordered pick up I cannot comment on the restaurant side because there is a separate "to-go" room on the corner of the restaurant with its own entrance. But the service was friendly and welcoming. And even the small area had cute decor.

#1 Combination

We had a really good lunch and the service was great and the ambiance was quirky. I had the #1 combination and the enchilada was especially good.

Absolutely my favorite Mexican restaurant!!! Two Enchiladas beans and rice. And Regular Tostada salad.

Rivera's is a great family own business. The food is very authentic and just the right amount of spicy flavor. The service is amazing and fast. Jorge and Ana are the best people. The restaurant decor is also so very beautiful. This is my weekend place to go. I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

Guacamole to go.

Just got the tiniest cup of guacamole to go at Rivera's. $11! Yes, it comes with some chips, but I feel ripped off. Next time I'll just have to make it myself.

Excellent experience! Came here for Mother's Day with family and friends and the food was amazing. The staff were very fast and attentive, totally locked in. The live music by Andres and Tita (T-Ta Project) were super electric and a lot of fun. Thank you Rivera's, we will definitely be back!

Jamica juice

Came here on a Tuesday around 11am did a reservation over the phone. Street parking, two bathrooms, attentive service. Menu kinda small but everything we ordered was good. Got the wet burritos they were warm and big. The chips and salsa were good. The Jamica juice was good amount of sweet. The menudo was a bit spicy but good texture. All in all would come again.

This place is a gem. I really loved the atmosphere at Rivera's--the vibe, the photos on the walls, and just the overall feel of the spot. I didn't catch our server's name, but he was super cool and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. I came in pretty hungover and had heard they serve really good menudo... and I'm so glad I listened. As soon as I walked in, I heard a lot of Spanish being spoken and saw multiple tables ordering menudo, which felt like a great sign--and it absolutely delivered. This is some of the best menudo I've ever had, hands down. It seriously cured my hangover. I was also stoked to see they carry my favorite Mexican beer, Victoria, so I had a little hair of the dog to go with it. Perfect combo. My girlfriend ordered a margarita and it was delicious too--fresh and well made. I'm really happy I found this spot and I'll definitely keep coming back, especially for that menudo. The fact that they even offer patas with the menudo just takes it to another level. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is in the neighborhood that I grew up in, but I had never eaten there! It looks small, and maybe focused on takeout from the street, but looks can be deceiving! Inside is actually a fairly large dining room, encompassing 3 rooms. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is apparent that many customers are regulars. The food is excellent and authentic Mexican fare. Prices are fair. The decor is vibrant and interesting! All I all, it was a very enjoyable experience with my family. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to stop in!! I'll be back.

If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! It's located on a busy street and parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time you come. We came as an office ( 5 of us)for lunch on Tuesday afternoon and found parking across the street. We were greeted at the door and sat down right away. We were offered chips and salsa. We looked through the menu a few minutes and our orders were taken. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us throughout our time there( and refilling our drinks as needed). Our food maybe took about 10-15 min to come out. For appetizers we shared shredded beef flautas which were delicious! They came with sour cream, salsa and guacamole. For my a drink I ordered an horchata was the perfect amount of sweet and rice flavor. For my entree I ordered the crispy chicken tacos combo that came with rice and beans. Very flavorful and authentic taste like I mentioned above. I will definitely be back here for a date night with the hubby!

Amazing pork tamale with fresh green chili , with the perfect amount of masa. I brought it home to try, and as always, it was excellent.

The food is phenomenal, it gets better every time I go because I try something new all the time, today I had the pozole, it was perfect, with warm tortillas and a ice cold beer. I brought home a pork tamale and it was over the top cooked to perfection. I love this friendly family owned restraunt, their hospitality is so warm and inviting, no matter how busy they are. Thank you so much for the delicious food and thank you for always making me feel welcomed.

Bean & Cheese Burrito
Kyle N.

Bean & cheese burrito from the to-go counter clocks a decent $7.25, generous size, plenty of flavor. Soft and just all around perfect. Legendary spot.

Loved the decor. The food was delicious! I see why they were named Best Nachos in LA. The place has such a home feel

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / June 8, 2023

We went there for Mothers Day Brunch, there was no outdoor seating. Maybe during Covid they had it.

What time do you close on Friday nights? Yelp says 7, and your website says 8. That's very early for dinner on a weekend.

We do close at 7pm, we are a family own business with only one shift. We come very early to prep for the day. If you are in by 7pm we would gladly serve you, sense we leave everyday until 8:30pm. Hope to see you.

Do they ever have pozole verde?

When are tamales offered? I didn't see them on the menu. I saw another unanswered question about…

We have tamales available. Chicken, Beef, Pork and cheese. We have them in our daily menu a la carte for $4.98 or by the dozen at $29.98. If you would like to place a large order we suggest to call days in advance.

How big is the outdoor dining area in regards to social distancing?

It is a few tables spread out along the sidewalk next to the restaurant. The tables seemed spaced out pretty decently with plenty of room between. I haven't sat there, just saw the outdoor dining when picking up food or passing by.

Do they use tequila or wine based?

I assume you are asking about their margaritas.. Tequila based..

Are their potato tacos any good?

Yes they are amazing. You can not go wrong with anything on the menu

First of all one of their workers with the mastche and tattoos is so cute which is always a plus for the ambiance. It didn't take long to get our food. About 5 minutes and they brought it out to where we sat since we dined in. First of all! You need to get an aguas fresca. We got the medium for the orange mango and the Jamaica. They are so natural. I'm a huge fan of artificial flavor so this was a huge shock, but it pairs so well with their food. My only regret isn't getting the large. For the food we got the burrito 2.0 asada and the chivichanga chicken. The burrito was great but very heavy on the beans. Make sure you get extra green salsa. It's their best and a perfect balance of salty with a hint of sweet. The red salsa gets spicy. If you can't handle hot Cheetos don't eat it. Now the chivichanga thing was perfect. It's so tiny but the fact it's about $5 was perfect. I have never had something so well priced and portioned before. The way I can describe it if you ever wanted to taste high class Taco Bell that will make you want four more then you need to try it. And I mean this in the best way possible. It's so cheesy and savory and yummy!!! Truly just from these two dishes we will be coming back to try the rest of the menu. Our next dishes is to try the tacos!

We ordered caramelos with the poblanos inside, as well as their horchata. Tortillas are some of the best I've had. Super soft and flavorful from the grill. The fillings and salsa were good too, but it was really wet, and the bean ratio especially compared to the meat, was a little off. Always am going to want more meat. Horchata was unique since it was coconut based. Overall solid spot with patient staff. Tacos La Rueda is still better, but will be back when in Long Beach.

It's normally taco Tuesday or dinner. It wasn't busy when we arrived. Mainly everyone was seated outside which we wanted a table as well. There was one that we were interested in and asked if we could have it which the waitress working was ok with. But it needed clearing up. It took a while for someone to come out and clear and clean the table up. It was fine waiting but it was like did someone forget about us. Anyways. We got seated and then the waiting continued. It could be that they were short staff but it seemed like there was only one person working. It took a while for someone to finally come back and acknowledge us and take our order. After that the chips and salsa were brought out. Once we ordered the drinks it was easier to place everything together. Menu for happy hour is pretty limited. A few drinks and beer on drafts and for food, maybe 6 items on the menu. Went with an order of the street corn which was quite tasty. An order of the mole chicken nachos and the queso dip with barria. Out of the three, the queso dips and the street corn were great. Nachos were good but nothing really major. The flavors of everything were quite tasty. Dishes were 12.00 an item. For happy hour, it was decent and what we had was good. The service was pretty slow at the beginning. Only the front patio and inside seating was available as the back patio wasn't open. We did start to see other staff walking in so maybe there was only one staff during the time.

The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal.

First interaction: They advertise a Happy Hour on M-F from 5-6 PM We had this interaction with a server in the bar. "Can we get an order in before Happy Hour is up?" Server "Of course. Me "What so you mean, we ordered these drinks on Happy Hour and now you are telling us there is no Happy Hour as advertised." Server: "Well, we don't do Happy Hour when there is an event in the area, so they are full price." Second interaction (after waiting 45 minutes for a table in the restaurant). We ordered the "made to order table side guac" for 15.50 for an appetizer. About 10 minutes later, a guac is delivered to the table that was either run through a blender or was taken from a tub with a spoonful of pico mixed in. So much for the advertised table side experience or fresh avocado. The guac we buy at Trader Joe's and from Costco are way better. Third Interaction when ordering an entree. I order enchiladas and they have red or green sauce. I ask, Can I get both red sauce on one and green sauce on the other? Response, "well there's an extra charge for that". Besides being lied to about "Happy Hour" and about the "Table-side" Guac and them being told a basic request is going to cost extra, it's is c extremely clear that this place has no respect for their customers and no expectation that anyone will return. I know the 6 local people in our group will never return.
