My spouse used to live in Long Beach, and this was his favorite Mexican place. He was excited to take me here on a Friday morning. We walked over and we were about 10 minutes early before they opened, but they let us in anyway. They started to soft with free chips and salsa. It was very good. We both had a spicy margarita, which was big and equally good. For his meal, he had the chicken tacos which he raved about. I had the cheese enchilada lunch special, which was delicious. Visited last Saturday for dinner before we left to our Carnival Cruise. Started my vacation with a margarita and a taco dinner! Husband recommended this restaurant as he had it on previous work trips. This restaurant is comfort Mexican food and just feels like a warm hug. The shredded beef taco and chicken taco tasted just like tacos I had made from my mom. The salsa on top of the tacos perfectly accented the tacos. Beans and rice were perfection! FYI: Lite Beans is a completely different type of beans. I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at SuperMax, and I have to give them just one star. As a regular customer at this location, I often enjoy the convenience and usually good food, but this time, the customer service was utterly unacceptable. The inside is cute gives a small restaurant vibe despite it being a chain restaurant. After placing my first order through UberEats using a gift card, I encountered significant confusion over my request for "lite beans." I assumed it meant a smaller portion of the regular refried beans, but instead, I received pinto beans--completely different from what I expected. On top of that, the rice was served in a smaller portion as well, which only added to my frustration. I acknowledge that this was my mistake, but it's not clear that asking for "lite beans" would result in receiving entirely different beans. This lack of clarity in their menu led to a frustrating experience, and I expected better communication from the restaurant. When I called to explain the situation, hoping for some understanding, I was met with a dismissive attitude. The staff member simply said, "Well, sorry, that's your fault." This kind of indifference is unacceptable. Instead of taking accountability or offering a resolution, they deflected blame. When I asked if I could get the correct beans, I was told I would have to pay for them because it was "my fault." To make matters worse, the to-go person tried to share their own personal story as if that would somehow make the situation better. Honestly, when I am trying to resolve my issues as a customer, I don't want to hear about someone else's problems. It's incredibly frustrating and completely misses the point of good customer service. Overall, the lack of accountability and poor customer service ruined my experience. For anyone using the app, be aware that choosing "lite beans" may result in receiving pinto beans instead of what you expect, and don't be surprised if the customer service leaves much to be desired. SuperMax really needs to step up their game in terms of communication and how they handle customer concerns. The one with cheese is normal beans and rice. Growing up going to Super Mex with my family, it's a nostalgic place! Had dinner here after many years of no Super Mex and it tastes just as delicious as it did two decades ago. Fresh ingredients (thinking of the salsa and guacamole), well-cooked meat (not dried out), HUGE food portions, and good service. Two people can easily split a plate if they're not starving. My fiancé and I each ordered a dish plus guac and chips to start. We were both so hungry, ate more than we should've, and still ended up with multiple servings of leftovers! Great value. Heck, it was worth the struggle with parking honestly. But, the last time I came by and got my usual a Carnitas Super Mex Burrito it just wasn't as good as I remember it to be. It was mildly wet with the red sauce and the carnitas had a lot of hard fatty pieces. Sighhh. I always order to go so idk about service in the restaurant so I can't speak on that. As soon as I bite first taco, I said, yumm...yummy....this is it. I give 5 stars. I know the qualities of tacos. My wife likes the soft shell tacos. We toasted to celebrate for our front yard project tonight. The parking is pretty tough. They have 2 hour limited street parking but no spot available. The inside restaurant is big and typically decorated like Mexican style. Our server was super friendly and served our foods so fast. Thanks for the great service. The prices are little higher than other tack areas. They have also Taco Tuesday for the discount. Once you check in Yelp, you get the $5 off for the total bill. I really enjoyed my beef tacos. This was another great visit to Super Mex. This location is on the far east side of downtown, and is very convenient for folks leaving the Grand Prix from the East exits. Even though there were a lot of people exiting from the event, there was no wait to get a nice elevated table. We were seated right away and Sandra was a great, attentive waitress. The best thing about all Super Mex's is their shredded beef. It's not birria, but is still flavorful, and all quality (no gristle). We shared a classic mango margarita for $9, and it was OK. The chimichangas combo ($16.95) came with two mini chimichangas and it was stuffed just with shredded beef, wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried, coming with rice and beans and a big dallop of guac. I ordered a tostada with shredded beef ($12.95), and it by itself was enough for me. It comes in a tortilla deep-fried bowl (more likely what other restaurants would use for their taco salad....here their taco salad is just that, a salad). which wasn't very crispy. But the same great shredded beef was plentiful, and made the tostada very tasty. Complementary chips and salsa is given, where the 'chips' are really tostadas that your break apart yourself. Next time, I would order the taco salad, and just use the complementary 'chips' as the 'crunch' that I love so much in a taco salad. It comes with complementary salsa, which is excellent...very good to put on your main entree for more flavor. read more
