We decided to grab lunch at 2nd and PCH after going to the Sunday Farmer's Market, and decided to finally check out Ola. Palapa next door offers the same food menu but has more drink options. Many opted for outdoor seating on the terrace due to the gorgeous views, but not wanting to wait we agreed to indoor seating. The interior of the restaurant is also very beautiful. The bathrooms were too dark for my tastes though. Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal, super friendly and anticipating all of our needs (water refills, leftover containers, etc.). Service overall by all staff was friendly. We were actually presently surprised with the taste of the food, thinking it might be more Americanized but they actually had very authentic and tasty totopos (tortilla chips). The tomato salsa that came with the chips was also very refreshing. We asked for hot sauce too and the house habanero salsa really packed a punch! We ordered carne asada nachos, pork belly chilaquiles (from the brunch menu), a breakfast burrito, poke, and steamed clams. The steamed clams came in a rich tomato broth and the breakfast burrito was massive. The poke was just okay and the chilaquiles a bit too soggy for me, and the carne asada nachos a bit dry. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. I've been to Ola many times and I'm just now getting around to writing a review. Honestly, I probably should've written one after my first visit because back then the food and drinks were off the chain! This most recent visit? The food was just... okay. I will say this: they have some of the best chips and salsa. The chips are crispy, warm, and taste super fresh. I'm a sucker for good chips and salsa. It's easily one of my favorite parts of going to a Mexican restaurant, and they definitely deliver there. Their cocktails continue to be consistently delicious. My absolute favorite is the cucumber jalapeño margarita, refreshing with just the right kick. They never miss on the drinks. As for the food, I've had their enchiladas and tacos before. This last time I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos. When I hear "blackened," I expect bold seasoning and flavor. That's not what I got. They were pretty basic and underwhelming for the price. Two tacos for $17, plus an additional $5 per shrimp taco? That felt excessive for what was served. Service was okay. Nothing special, nothing terrible. Now, the location? You can't beat it. Being upstairs at 2nd & PCH with the Alamitos Bay view is a whole vibe. It's a perfect setting for date night or drinks with friends. They don't validate parking, but the first 90 minutes are free, which helps. When I walked in I was impressed by how nice everything looked! From the dim lighting to architecture and decorations, it was all cool to walk into. This is the third time I am at this restaurant in the last three years. They have a very cool location where you can sit out and watch the boats at the marina. The other times I have been here the food has not been the greatest. However this time the food was very very good. Location is great, in the 2nd & PCH shopping center near the marina in Long Beach. The food is quite good - I always get the dos or tres tacos and have not had a bad one yet. Free chips and salsa and tap water immediately when you sit down. The service is excellent. Drinks are beautiful and tasty. There's a nice kids menu with a lot of good options. Only complaint is that the only veggie option on the kids menu is corn on the cob, which would be fine except that for some reason it tastes pretty bad. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant that is authentic but more of a high end place where you're paying for the views and its locations. If you want something authentic you have to drive down five miles on Anaheim street to get the most authentic Mexican food. We came here on a Sunday and not very busy- this is a huge place and when it's not busy service is a tad slow. We ordered the tacos and it was decent- not as spicy as I like my authentic Tacos. The server was nice and we were seated by the windows and before the sun comes down the view is spectacular- this is what you pay for. My family and I have come to Ola several times over the past few years. We usually come for happy house since they have a great happy hour menu. They recently raised their happy hour prices but they still have great deals. Our favorites are the 3 tacos and a margarita for $17 (used to be $15) and the nachos. The food and drinks are tasty! The service is usually pretty quick and the food comes out promptly. We have come on different days and we are always able to get a table. Ola could not miss! Ambiance - not a bad seat in the house from the nice bar and indoor/outdoor area looking at the boats and beautiful sunset. Service - the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items. Brought extra water and salsa and was super attentive. So how did it taste? 1. Ribeye Chimichurri Taco - medium well, moist and flavorful ribeye steak strips. Only issue was the chimichurri was lost as the heat lamps dried it out. 2. Lobster Taco - for an extra $8 the lobster taco was a mouthful. Definitely well spent $8. Though flavorful, slightly over done. 3. Pork Belly Tacos - definitely a miss even though recommended by the staff. Cali is known of the fusion scene and I've had plenty of pork belly tacos but this missed the mark and was very underwhelming. The marinade was great and full of flavor but by the time I received it the pork was "dry". Dry, cubed, marinated jerky is what it felt like. I enjoyed my weekday dinner at Ola Mexican Kitchen this past week. With the summer heat, I opted to dine on their beautifully lit patio and grabbed a cocktail for starters. The Punta Negra Margarita was everything I didn't know I needed! Muddled blackberries are paired with the kick of fresh jalapeño, finished off with pineapple juice and a savory tajin rim. I could have easily had 3, but moderation is key! The Enchiladas con Pollo was well seasoned and portioned well. I ordered a taco trio (chile rellano, pork belly, and fish taco). The tacos are a little bigger than a normal street taco. The 3 tacos were plenty for me. The flavors were solid. One down side is that the dishes don't come with rice and beans. If you want rice and beans you will need to order it separately. I found the prices here to be a little high, but considering the neighborhood/location I can understand the higher prices. Dined there Saturday evening (party of 8) in town for Grand Prix. Horrible service. We saw our server 3 times the whole night. Received one round of drinks, the second round she forgot to bring us, and we had to get from the bar. Food was ok, ribeye fajitas were cold. Asked for manager at the end of the night to remove gratuity off my personal check, and nobody ever came. Left after waiting over 20 minutes. Called the next day, and spoke with manager Abraham to explain the situation, and that I wanted my check adjusted as I did not sign the receipt. He told me that is how their fajitas come. He couldn't help me, and let me know the GM Brian would call me and help with the issue on Tuesday afternoon. It's Thursday evening, and still no help or call. Dined here during a sunny weekend. Blue skies with clouds and sun made for a glorious day at LBC. We sat on the patio next to the glass rail, which offers a stunning coastal view. It was breezy, so we asked if they could turn on the heat lamp to offset the chill. Unfortunately, even with the lamp on, it didn't help much as the wind carried the heat away from our table. Parking was free for the first hour, and we were fortunate that the parking machine was broken, so we left without paying. What we ordered: ACAPULCO CEVICHE (Fresh caught fish, tequila-citrus vinaigrette, jalapeño, pineapple, pico de gallo) - I loved the citrusy flavor of the ceviche. I wished the portions were bigger because it was gone after five scoops. STEAMED CLAMS (Chorizo, jalapeño, fennel, onions, cherry tomato, seafood broth, cilantro) - An interesting take with chorizo and seafood broth. It was steaming hot and delightful to have during the breeze. Funny story, I really wanted to drink the broth, so I asked for spoons for the group. The server returned with one, and we basically had to play roulette to see who got the spoon. THREE TACOS (Baja Fish and Carne Asada) - The battered fish tacos and the classic asada taco weren't bad. The tacos came seasoned with sauce, cilantro, and onions. I really appreciated that the tortillas were hand-pressed and not factory-made. LOBSTER AND SHRIMP ENCHILADAS (Cheese enchilada topped with a tomatillo cream sauce and sour cream) - Savory flavor of the shrimp and lobster rolled with cheese. Can't go wrong with this selection. I tried the 1905 BOHEMIA PILSNER, and I believe it is one of the most underrated Mexican lagers. I really enjoyed their spiced house chips and salsa so much that I asked for a second serving. Plus they only gave one chip haha. They do offer you salsa and a basket of chips gratis but it would have been nice to have a few more of the blue corn tortilla chips to go with the $13 guacamole. The pollo mole was good but slightly dry with a kick. It comes with tortillas but I just ate as is. The pork belly tacos were good in flavor but the pork belly itself was dry and overcooked. Ola is conveniently located inside the 2nd and PCH mall plaza in Long Beach. It was my first time at the restaurant and the mall strip, absolutely loved them both! Great views, great dining, great to hang out all day. Let's get to the restaurant. The place itself feels so modern and chic, with beautiful views (we requested for the patio). Vibes all around felt as if we were resort dining, and I could not complain. Their food was delicious! I may have eaten one too many tortilla chips (on the house), but still enjoyed my ribeye house salad. We shared their poke appetizer, and got a bite of my husband's burrito. Both SO good, with generous portions. One star knocked down because we noticed the service was pretty slow for a rather non busy evening. I think this place is fantastic. I had lobster tacos (very generous amount of lobster) & some ceviche. The food to me has always been excellent. The atmosphere is always a plus. Sunset here is incredible too. The pricing makes sense to me. I think the flavors are all there. Anyone complaining probably couldn't prepare the same dish half as good. Our service was good considering they were busier than expected. Have been here several times and will continue to come back when I visit again. Um... did I not order the right thing? Ok, so I ordered 2 shrimp tacos, with rice instead of slaw & a horchata. The shrimp in the shrimp tacos was overcooked and I couldn't even finish one taco because it was not good. The rice request added an uncharged of $2.. very nominal, yet the portion was super small, about 2 tablespoons of rice. The rice was really good which was disappointing because they served me an extremely small portion. As for the horchata lol - this is a me just being surprised that a Mexican restaurant doesn't serve horchata. This is very funny to me. The ambience was for sure on point. It was right next to the water and boats sitting in the harbor. I would probably give this place another chance because of how great the ambience is. My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch for something light. We shared a ceviche which came with two chips, so thank your lucky stars you get a basket of chips for the table. The salsa served with the chips is definitely from a jar and if it's not you have to do better please. Our ceviche was OK, it embodied a cóctel de camarón a little more in my opinion. It's served with a red sauce, shrimp and diced vegetables which is a very simple and easy to make ceviche so I was not impressed. Depending on the state in Mexico you get a different version of ceviche so this was underwhelming I wanted a little more character from this plate. They also don't have agua fresca but they will charge you for a virgin cocktail since the fresh watermelon juice is reserved for alcoholics. The views are incredible in here but it's like walking into a basement. When I think of my culture I don't get dark, moody, and goth....I feel joy because our art is incredibly vibrant. It's a dark vibe but at least you can see the marina after getting past that parking lot eye sore. read more

It was not busy at all and we were seated right away. We chose to be seated on the patio which has a gorgeous view of the marina. It's also covered, but open which is nice. I ordered a bowl of the Chicken Tortilla Soup. Others ordered either the two or three taco plate, and the poke. We also ordered Abuela's Rice and Beans to share. We were served complimentary chips and salsa. I did not try them so I cannot comment on whether they were good or not. The Chicken Tortilla Soup was solid. It was flavorful and had a good amount of chicken in it. The tortilla chips were mixed into the soup, so by the time it was served, they were all soggy. It also came with a taquito, but I did not eat it so I cannot comment on how it was. My partner got the three taco plate with a Chile Relleno taco, a Pork Belly taco, and Fish taco. He said all the tacos were solid. They were also filled pretty well. Our friend who ordered the poke enjoyed his food while our other friend ordered the two taco plate with a Grilled Fish taco and a Carne Asada taco. She enjoyed the Grilled Fish taco but mentioned that the Carne Asada was tough and was disappointed with it. Our order of Abuela's Rice and Beans never came, but luckily we were not charged for it. Overall, giving Ola Mexican Kitchen a 3.5/5. Food seems to be a mixed bag, though I did enjoy the Chicken Tortilla Soup. It is on the pricier side as well, and we were surprised that some of the plates do not come with any sides. Service was good, but slow at times for it not being too busy. I was so grossed out, thankfully the server was coming to check on our table as I found it and I handed her the plate of food. She offered me another one but I was so grossed out I said no. She did remove it from the check so I didn't pay for it. However the reason I'm writing a review is for two reasons...1, a manager never came to the table to address the situation and 2, the kitchen really needs to address hair hygiene. read more

Came around 1145am for an early lunch to celebrate our 3rd year anniversary of our company's company. We parked on the roof area parking near the whole foods area and we walked over. It was 4 of us and we shared the chips, salsa, flautas, and ceviche. The chips have a seasoning that's really good...it adds a pop of flavor to regular chips and salsa I've had before. The crispy flautas were really good! They reminded me of baby thick burrito lol. It had shredded beef inside and a couple of sauces and some cheese top that came together nicely. The ceviche tasted fresh! It had a little more lime than I would have preferred but still good. For my entree I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and it came with a chicken taquito. I liked the taquito but I really didn't like the tortilla soup . I guess I was expecting more of a broth and it was more creamy, more like a pea or lentil stew which I couldn't vibe with I'm sorry! If you like real Mexican food, look elsewhere. This is Mexican adjacent. $17 for 2 decently sized tacos. I got a Baja fish taco and an al pastor taco (taco of the month). The fish taco was nothing special. About on par with the crispy fish tacos from Rubio's but less crispy. The al pastor was better, but you know this isn't the real stuff. The meat, which came out in cubes rather than strips like you'd see in real al pastor, was a bit dry and had some smokey flavor. The avocado tomatillo sauce was a good touch. I found the tortillas to be tough to chew: seemingly made in house but thick, cold, and old-feeling. That's probably also why I found the chips tough to eat. I was left full but not incredibly satisfied. 2.5/5 stars The service was friendly and not terribly slow. It wasn't busy inside, though, and I felt that service got to us a little slow at the start. 4/5 stars The restaurant feels decent, but nothing terribly special beside the patio views.
