Los Compadres is NOT you ordinary run of the mill Mexican restaurant, no sir, do not dare to place this restaurant with thoes, how dare you sir I've always said, Mexican food is poor food, it all the same meat, veggies, cheese and tortilla. If you can afford a steak, you eat the steak, if not cut that one steak and make burritos not much meat, make tacos, less meat, make flautas/taqueros, less than that quesadillas with some meat. You get what i mean. But this high end Mexican restaurant made me a liar! This high end Mexican restaurant doesn't make poor food, this place make food for kings! Every dish is savory every order id above and beyond, to even sit in this wonderful place you feel the like this is what the rich must eat in Mexico, no my friend this is elegance the service is as if your a celebrity and they are working had to keep your business. When you come, and I hope you do, come with respect because the food earned it. The ambiance: Walking in decore, the furniture make you feel like a wealthy rancher like Kevin Costner will walk in at any time. Packed almost always. The food: beyond description but I will try. When ever you see café dela hoja, order it! If you like cinnamon this is coffee made at its best, no sugar or creamer needed, wonderful magical brood to have you sit and see the world around you better, brighter, sweeter. We have been coming to this restaurant for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. We came to celebrate two birthdays with a party of 15, and unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. Our server Enrique barely came around, and even when we thanked him, we received no response or acknowledgment. Customer service has just gone down the drain! At the end of our dinner, after spending over $600 as a group, my husband mentioned that we were celebrating two birthdays. The server's response was, "Well, I will have to charge you for two cakes because you didn't tell me on time." My husband paid for the cakes, of course, but the way the situation was handled was very disappointing and left a bad impression. We chose this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, especially because we have been coming here for years, and unfortunately, the experience took away from what should have been a happy celebration. With a large party and a bill combined of over $600, we expected much better service and hospitality. Very disappointing experience, especially after coming here for years. 4.5 Stars. We have been here about 6 or 7 times in the last 6 years and I can honestly say this is the best sit down Mexican restaurant in Long Beach. Los Compadres is what El Torito, Rodrigo's, or LA Capilla wishes it could be. We had early dinner here two days ago. If you know, you know that if you get here after 4:30 pm, be prepared to wait about 30+ minutes to get seated. It's very popular and the parking lot is an odd shape and a parking spot can be a challenge. The complimentary chips and salsa are what you would expect. Very good. The Margaritas are good and they have great mixers. My wife ordered the cheese enchiladas with the green sauce. I ordered the mixed fajitas (Asada, pollo, and shrimp). It came with nice thick homemade corn tortillas. The side of rice is nice and fluffy and the refried beans are very good. In the past I have ordered their shredded beef enchiladas with the red sauce and their shredded beef hardshell tacos. Those are my go to. Their mixed Molcajete is very good here and best to share. Its a lot of food. This is a really well oiled machine here. The staff is always welcoming. Servers are on top of pushing for cocktails and the the kitchen pumps out very hot dishes quickly for as busy as they get. We've been coming here for quite a while, but after returning following a long break, we were disappointed by several changes. First, we asked for a spicier salsa, and we were told that it could only be served with our meal. What's the point of getting the salsa with the meal when we wanted to enjoy it with our chips beforehand? They also used to offer free horchata refills, but apparently that is no longer the case. Unfortunately, they also got our food order wrong. We specifically ordered beef enchiladas, and my husband repeated the order three times, yet we received shrimp enchiladas instead. Overall, the experience just isn't what it used to be. It feels like they are nickel-and-diming customers for everything, even something as simple as salsa or a horchata refill. I understand they are renovating the front of the building, and perhaps the cost of the renovations is contributing to these changes, but the customers shouldn't feel the impact of that. The staff at the front may look nice and presentable, but unfortunately, the overall service doesn't feel as customer-focused as it once did. At this point, I would recommend looking for another restaurant where the service and hospitality are more consistent and where you don't feel like you're being charged for every little thing. read more

We decided to eat lunch and celebrate our daughter's birthday. This place is as authentic as it gets! The best Mexican food restaurant in LBC in my opinion. Everything we've had through the years has nothing been amazing. I can't believe I have not reviewed this spot. It's always busy on the weekends and evenings. Everything comes out piping hot including the chips and fresh made salsa. We've had the burritos to chimichangas and pozole! Their taco dorados are amazing as well! Crunchy and never falls apart every-time we order it. It's a cute restaurant and now that has an outside patio. The drinks are delicious and strong! We ordered the fajitas with steak and shrimp. First time trying this restaurant and found that the best thing to do was to get there early cause there is await. The ceviche is delicious and if you are only two people is enough for a meal. I would definitely get this dish. Got the carnitas platter and for the price there were generous amounts of pork. The carnitas were tasty and I would recommend flour tortillas with the dish. As for drinks had the house margarita and it does pack a punch. Services was great with the waitress passing often. I would recommend sitting in the main dining room instead of the bar area to get the full experience since the bar plays sports and has the volume of the game loud. read more

Came to this place and it was a great experience. Our server was on top of the menu with suggestions left and right. The location was family friendly but parking was a little tough to navigate to. They do have parking in the back, but we didn't know so we parked a little further ways on the street. We shared the ceviche, i had a burrito (dry) with Al pastor, my partner had the same but wet with chili verde, the kids shared a quesabirria plate. The food was delicious and had so much flavor. Delicious and authentic Mexican food. Enjoyed a refreshing mixed cocktail on a hot summer day with some perfect fried Ensenada fish tacos. I'm pretty picky with my fish tacos because I need the batter to be thin and not moist on the inside. This restaurant's fish tacos definitely met my standard. Love the Spanish aesthetic and decor--gives an authentic atmosphere. Long Beach Gem!! Parking is in the back and you might have to wait for a table but Los Compadres is an experience worth waiting for! The servers are friendly and efficient and the cocktails at the bar while you wait are top notch. The ambience of the bar and large dining area are Old Mexico Mission with wooden booths and traditional decor. Our server recommended the fajitas and so I dove into her suggestion and they were amazing and such a large portion. The grilled chicken sat atop an impressive amount of grilled peppers and onions. The corn tortillas are homemade and stand up to the surplus of fillings. The salsa and guacamole complemented all the flavors and created that perfect taco bite. Hubby had the Chipotle Cream dish and he was in heaven!! I recommend Los Compadres for date night, celebrations and family group gatherings. It's our favorite Mexican Restaurant in OC! read more

It's been a while since our last visit, but my family decided to drop in for Sunday dinner. There was a 30-minute wait, which gave me time to admire the new front addition--it looks like they're building a patio to keep up with the high demand! Just to be clear: this isn't your standard "Gringo" Mexican food. It is 100% authentic and tastes just like a home-cooked meal. Everything from the handmade tortillas to the salsas is top-tier. Whether you get the mole, the molcajete, or the enchiladas, you really can't go wrong. My only disappointment was finding out they took the sopes off the menu; they used to be huge and "the bomb." We were a party of five adults and one toddler, and they applied an automatic 18% gratuity (which they do for parties of 6+). Our server, Claudia, was fantastic! My only real gripe is the price hike. Enchiladas used to be under $13, but now almost everything is $20+. It's getting into steakhouse price territory, but the food is still delicious and the staff works incredibly hard. I noticed the happy hour menu. Not what it use to be, $7.77 once upon a time. But still some relief for your wallet. I missed coming here, nice to be back. read more

They are still under construction to finish new patio area at the entrance. We had to park the car toward exit and found no more entrance from the Anaheim St. So slow during late lunch. The service was slower than usual. We ordered the same ones, 2 crispy taco combination and my 2 chimichanga combo. Same quality and same ambiance except new construction area. Little noisy.... Hopefully they finish the new patio area soon. I don't like too much noises when I eat. We loved the Spanish rice, beans, warm chips and salsa. Their house margarita was so good for $14. Came here for a nice dinner and drinks and were not disappointed. The outside of the restaurant is being remodeled to accommodate outdoor seating. We probably had the best waiter here, he was nice and attentive. We went straight for the meal as it was getting late. This was our go to spot for years , we would make the drive from Irvine because it was worth it, past 3/4 times it's gone downhill, should of known when we came in on a Saturday evening and it was empty , they always over charge us a drink (kids drinks are included didn't even bother to remind the waiter again this time it always happens) the server also spilled a soda all over our 2 kids (was apologetic but didn't give us a discount or move us to a non wet/sticky table) not to mention the price has increased by at least $4 each dish , unfortunately won't be making the drive down here anymore, mediocre quality my enchiladas were cold, so sad to see a great business go down the drain I used to recommend it as #1 but not the case anymore read more

He brought the food out for the kids first, which was great. The food was good, and the fresh seafood was delicious. Everything we ordered came out exactly as we ordered it. The vibe here was actually really nice, intimate, spacious, and with fun music that made it feel lively without being overwhelming. The service was fast and friendly, which I definitely appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the atmosphere. I ordered 3 tacos (pastor and carnitas) with rice and beans. The pastor was dry and really lacked flavor, and the carnitas were overly fatty and could've used more salt and seasoning overall. The beans were bland too, though the rice was the highlight of the plate; flavorful and well-cooked. I also ordered a margarita, which looked great and came in a generous size, but it was very weak and mostly tasted like juice. This is great Mexican food! No wonder it is always packed! We don't come very often because of that last statement, but it is certainly worth it for special occasions. We came for my mom's birthday a couple of years ago, and we were a group of 7-8 adults and 5 kids, and we were attended to nicely. The menu is also quite expansive and has almost any type of Mexican food one could crave from tacos and burritos to fish plates, from fajitas to cocteles, from chilaquiles and other breakfast options to caldos. More recently, we came for my brother's-in-law birthday. We were a group of 9 adults and 3 kids. They were very accommodating to the few of us that split plates or with minor substitutions with things on the menu. I almost always get the coctel de camaron because it is my favorite place to get them. The shrimp is always perfectly cooked and abundant, the broth nicely flavored and there is plenty of chopped veggies. The green habanero sauce on the table went very well in my coctel. It comes served with saltines by default, but we requested tostadas. To drink I ordered the Michelada Chabela with a Pacifico. It was a little too sweet and salty for me toward the end. I ordered it because of the addition of Worcestershire sauce, but did not really care for the tamarindo straw or that amount of chamoy and tajin inside the actual drink. In the future, I think I will stick with the regular michelada and request for a couple of dashes of W sauce to be added in. My parents and my sister each ordered the fajitas mixtas, and those looked delicious as well. I like that you can request frijoles de la olla (whole cooked beans) in place of the refried ones. A co-worker asked me to lunch and recommended Los Compadres. i have passed this restaurant countless times and never stopped. i will say before i get started that i have been missing out. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is a little dark. we both had to use our flashlights on our cells. Claudia was our waitress, we didn't have to wait long before our waters with lime and chips and salsa came. The chips and salsa was very good. the salsa was just right, not too mild and a little kick. i ordered the 1 Chicken Enchilada & Chicken Taco Dorado combo $20, she order 3 Chicken Sopes $16. our meals came reasonably quick considering it seemed like they were fairly busy. it was noon. The food was delicious. seasoned perfect! even the beans and rice were chef's kiss! the portions were big and embarrassingly, i ate all my food and it was not a lunch portion. Finally got to experience the magic of Los compadres! Parking can get tricky-but the lot in the back had a bunch of spots. We came early (5) so that had a lot to do with finding parking. They are open during construction as of 6/12/25. Walked right up and got seated by a really friendly hostess who went through the menu and the best sellers. Our server was super friendly and really attentive! The ambiance is festive (a bit loud) and good for families. Feels like an old school restaurant with big red booths and a cozy vibe. Happy hour is from 4-7!! Kinda amazing. I couldn't get enough of the chips and salsa. The beer was soooooo cold and delicious. Grilled fish tacos might have been my favorite. This was my second time at Los Compadres. The first visit wasn't great, but I decided to give it another chance. I will say, the food was wonderful. The chorizo fondue is a 10/10, the enchiladas were solid, and the pricing felt reasonable. Parking is a bit tight, but manageable. Unfortunately, the customer service completely ruined the experience. Our server, Enrique, was extremely rude and had a very nasty attitude. It made us feel uncomfortable the entire time. No matter how good the food is, customer service matters, and this fell very short. Because of the service alone, I won't be returning. Things that stood out was it's a family run place. Big servings, friendly & attentive waiter. Food was OK meaning I will try another place before coming back. In the mood for Mexican caldos we looked up "best caldo de res in Long Beach" and many people's lists included Los Compadres, so we decided to check out their non-downtown Long Beach location. Though the exterior is under construction at the moment, the parking lot and restaurant are still open. We walked in and it was nicer than I expected, with a bar area plus a larger main dining room. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu is extensive and I took photos. We chose caldo de res and also pozole. Both soups were large and very tasty, though when we make caldo de res at home we usually include cabbage, chayote, and sometimes ejotes (green beans). We also ordered tamarindo agua fresca and pink lemonade to drink. The pink lemonade was very concentrated and sweet, but the tamarindo agua fresca was nice and tart. I am admittedly a totopos (tortilla chip) snob and like them thick like in Mexico; the complimentary chips and salsa at Los Compadres were hot and made fresh but the chips still had the thin texture with specks that are not my personal fave. To finish, we had tres leches cake for dessert, which came drizzled with chocolate and was a decadent end to the meal. Prices were on the higher side but portions were generous. The parking lot is a little small but great service and food. I was promptly served and seated. They have a large menu to choose from with happy hour menu mon-fri. I had chilaquiles with carne asada and huevos mixed in the with chips. My friend had a wet burrito. Both were delicious and great portions. The chips are super crispy despite being soaked in salsa.
