Hadn't been to this place in a while. So today, as I drove past I decided I would stop in after my errand. Too hot to cook , seemed like a good choice for Taco Tuesday. I ordered on the user friendly website. At first I thought $6 for a carne asada taco? I hadn't remembering them being $6 and I do recall they were only average size.Figured it's just a sign of the times. Price of everything is up. The young lady that gave me my order had a friendly smile and the food was ready as soon as i arrived. Now-- for the food. OMG! I'm a Taco Lover, having enjoyed them in many, many different places. The asada taco was worth every cent. It was enough for two--but I ate it all. Lol. The torts were fresh. The meat was tender and seasoned well. Next was the hard shell shredded beef taco. The term "hard shell" varies from place to place. But I always ask, hoping someone will get it just right. Just like the asada taco, the second taco was just as flavorful and tender. The shell had the PERFECT crunch and the cheese & lettuce were fresh. The guac on the top was the icing on the cake. Everything was delish! Baja Sonora great job. I'll be back. read more

There is something seriously wrong in the world when 2 shrimp tacos (no combo) come to over $15! And that's on a Tuesday (before 3:00, my mistake that Tuesday is actually all day). If these were special/amazing tacos that's one thing. But they are just everyday tacos. No thank you. read more

I visited Baja Sonora recently for the first time. Although the customer service was great and they have an awesome salsa bar, the food tasted mediocre to me. I had a chicken enchilada and shredded beef taco. The chicken in the enchilada wasn't seasoned very well and the enchilada was also a bit dry. The hard shell taco wasn't that crispy and the meat also wasn't seasoned very well. My boyfriend got a bean and cheese burrito. I had a bite of it and thought it was good. He also got an order of beef flautas. They were huge, but the taste was just okay. The salsa bar has all you can eat chips, but they were shaped like tostadas. This is the second time my husband and I come to this restaurant. The staff has been so friendly and welcoming both times. Today I ordered the taco and enchilada meal, and my husband got the 2 taquitos and one enchilada combo. Both were great, my taco was a bit on the dry side today. However, the food was delicious the first time and that's why I came back! The restaurant does get pretty busy, but there's indoor and outdoor seating. They also have a salsa bar and tostadas. Highly recommend goimg to Baja Sonora! I've been here twice now and it never disappoints. You can get a huge plate of tacos, enchiladas, etc with rice and beans, the food is freshly hot, the workers are genuinely so kind, AND you get fresh and ready to eat chips and salsa! Prices are not too bad either and you can easily have leftovers the next day. The workers make sure you are taken care of. Stopped by for some pick up for dinner. I got the chicken fajitas. My wife got the grilled Vege burrito. Portion size was great. Service good. Beans were good. Rice was good. Chicken was over cooked. Dry and crunchy. Corn tortillas were not able to be used because they were ripped. Very disappointing. I appreciate the fresh peppers but can we get some smaller slices. Grilled Vege burrito was not grilled. Not sure why. Salsa bar was outstanding. I want to continue to come here but it just seems that the effort in quality is being lost. I've been coming to Baja Sonora since 2013. Long before the remodel. Back when they still had the spot on Atlantic. Loyal customer. Consistent. Spent money here for over a decade. Supported this place when it was nothing special. And this is how they treat people now. The older bald Hispanic owner yeah, that guy -- has apparently decided to die on the hill of being a complete asshole to paying customers. Here's what happened. He walks through the restaurant like usual, greeting tables, "Hi, how are you, how's the food?" He hits the white family sitting across from us with the full friendly act. Then he gets to our table. Me (Hispanic) and my Caucasian wife. I say, perfectly polite: "Hi sir, how are you? I haven't seen you in a while." His response? Loud. Performative. Aggressive. "Seeing me? I've never seen you in my life." Said it out loud on purpose so everyone around could hear. Instant hostility. Zero reason. Just pure attitude. Stack this: * He had JUST been at the table a few spots over minutes earlier. * At that table he was all smiles, sweet, nice, shaking hands with me and my friends. * Warm. Friendly. Completely different person. * Then he walks over to us and flips the switch like a light. That's not a bad day. That's bipolar restaurant owner energy. One minute charming the room, next minute publicly denying he knows a longtime customer and trying to embarrass him in front of other tables. For what? Because I said "I haven't seen you in a while"? That's the crime? He didn't need to lower himself like that. He chose to. He chose to play it up for the audience. He chose aggression over basic professionalism. And the fact that the switch flipped so hard after he'd just been nice to us minutes earlier makes it even more ridiculous. I've been here since 2013. Through the old Atlantic location. Through the remodel. Through the years of giving this place my money. And this is the treatment? Publicly acting like you've never seen a loyal customer's face while you were just shaking his hand a few tables ago? Unprofessional. Erratic. Completely unnecessary. It's been a hot minute since I've been to Baja Sonora, and it did not disappoint. We came in around 6 on a Friday. It was busy but we were able to order quickly and there were still tables available. I was craving a fish taco and ordered the one taco combo. The toppings on the taco were perfect and the piece of fish was generous. I ended up separating it into two tacos! Hubby got the torta and teenager got the California burrito. Both had plenty of meat. We love the chip and salsa bar, which also has lime slices for the Diet Coke. Baja Senora is just the kind of place I want when I'm in the mood for rice and beans and maybe an entree. Luckily for me, the rice and beans at Baja Senora slap. We shared a lil crunchy taco to start. For $4.75, you get something called a deep fried hard taco filled with your choice of protein (chicken for us) and topped with shredded lettuce and a mound of shredded cheese. It was good (?) though I don't think I'll be venturing down that court again. For my entree, I ordered the two enchilada combo ($14.95). Here, you can mix and match your enchiladas so I ordered one chicken and one cheese. They're smothered in enchilada sauce and topped with melted cheese. Of the two, I preferred the cheese. The chicken enchilada was nothing more than shredded chicken, which is fine, but a little dry for my preference. They also offer unlimited chips and salsa. The chips are giant tortilla disks which I find fun. Salsa selection is excellent. Overall, Baja Senora is giving what it needs to give. read more

Solid 3.5 stars. My husband raved about this place when he used to live in the area and I am here trying it for the first time. I really love the chip and salsa bar. A nice touch! They also keep this place nice and clean. My husband ordered an enchilada plate which looked decent. I ordered 3 tacos. Shrimp, fish and shredded beef. Both my fish and shrimp tacos were served lukewarm warm/cold. It was also soaked in their sauce which made the tacos messy, and unappetizing to me eat. The shredded beef however was excellent. I have eaten at Baja Sonora for many years when they were located in Bixby Knolls I was sad to see them close, the food was consistently good and in walking distance from my condo. The restaurant is clean and fairly packed on Veterans Day. I chose my lunch and place my order. My order Bean and cheese burrito. $7.99 With extra cheese wet with spicy green sauce. They covered my burrito in red sauce I didn't bother to say anything because I was annoyed that I didn't double check my receipt but I am positive that I asked for spicy green sauce. To be fair my burrito was delicious the beans were yummy and the red sauce was very good next time I'll check my receipt. 8/10 Potato tacos. $9.50 Two hard tacos with soft potato filling lettuce cheese and mild salsa I loved them. 10/10 A side of Spicy Pork Chili Verde $9.95 Not sure it was worth the price especially not having any sides with it but overall it was good the pork was tender and the sauce was very spicy and perfectly seasoned. 8/10 I would order this again but I will keep it original chili verde and not spicy because after a few bites I was over the heat. Free Salsa bar Was just like I remembered I love the variety and the fried tostada to break up and eat with the salsa. Mild red salsa 8/10 Tangy and mild I love this with potato tacos. Spicy xx Salsa 10/10 It has a nice kick and it's my favorite to drown over my food. Mild Salsa 8/10 Mild flavorful perfect on everything. Green Salsa 10/10 Tangy and flavorful. My total was $34.53 Overall I had an uneventful visit inside the restaurant but there were families with small kids sneezing all over the place making me Covid nervous ( I had a mask on) and I am a bit gun shy around lil crumb snatchers that sneeze and touch ish. lol I finished my potato taco, it was bomb I added xx spicy salsa and mild red sauce I packed up ate my second taco in the car and headed home. Baja Sanora is one of my go to places for quality Mexican food. They have a large menu and lots of veggie items. The have a chips and salsa bar and a drunk station in the dining room. I'm a Carne Asada fajitas man. That's what I get at any Mexican restaurant if they make them. There is a lot of seating indoor and a few tables for outdoor dining. This place shares a parking lot with other restaurants so it could get crowded as the parking lot is small, but there's street parking so don't worry. When you go to the restaurant there's two entrances. It doesn't matter which one you go into, but the door on the left is the dining area which is pretty big and the door on the right is where you order your food. Once you order your food you go to the salsa bar. There's plenty of salsa from spicy to mild. Jalapeños, lime and hard tortillas. And the space is clean. After I got my salsa my order was ready. Took like 5 minutes I ordered the 2 hard tacos combo which came with a generous portion of rice and beans. I got one taco with shredded beef and the other taco with chicken. The chicken was kind of dry so I wasn't a fan of it. The shredded beef is really good and flavorful and not dry. And the tacos were big. I'm coming here the next time I want a big taco filled with beef. read more

This is my first time coming here. I was craving some enchiladas and my family was craving some tacos. The owner is very friendly and greets all the customers. Service was quick. The food came out hot. They have a self serve chip and salsa station which was very nice and well stocked. The portion of the food was also decent, and the price was good. The taste however, was just very mid. Nothing stood out, but it did its job of satisfying my craving. I wasn't feeling well today but had a hankering for some Mexican food so I stopped by Baja Sonora for one of their combos #1 - which includes 2 hard shell tacos shredded beef rice and beans included with that and I needed some soup so I went with Albondigas soup- meatball soup. I haven't been here before but this place is busy and authentic. I had my order to go tonight! Tacos were delicious, rice and beans were Luke warm when I got home it was ok. We came here regularly when we lived in Long Beach and often come back when we're in the area. There's no better bargain around for food quantity for the price. Combo meals are around $14-15 and include generous meat, large portions of rice and beans, and a refillable drink. Plus free chip and salsa bar. I had shrimp soft tacos this time, and there were about ten shrimp in each. I had the same thing at a much pricier restaurant a few weeks ago that had only three small shrimp per taco and a lot of veggie filler. You may run into one of the owners bustling around, and the checker had been there for years when we moved away seven years ago and is still there. She's always extremely efficient and knowledgeable. The only negative IMO is that parking can be a challenge. Don't overlook that additional parking is available at each end of the strip mall via a route around and behind the buildings. Just be careful - it's narrow with sharp turns and might be too much for larger vehicles. This is not authentic Mexican food, so if that's what you're looking for, you may not be pleased. But if you like the Americanized version, as I do, go for it! read more

I ordered my usual go to: a bean and cheese burrito with sour cream, plus 3 hard shell tacos with ground beef. Starting with the tacos -- the only real positive was the crunchy shell. The ground beef was poorly seasoned and had a bitter aftertaste that made them hard to enjoy. The bean and cheese burrito was also disappointing. It arrived cold, and the cheese was only half melted. It honestly felt like there was very little care put into the food quality. Only redeeming part of the meal was the tortilla, which was surprisingly good. They have greatly forgotten how to put out a quality product. It was our go to spot for years... The quality has definitely slipped. We ordered 4 hard shell tacos on 2 plates, they must have cooked them at 9am because they were soft, oily, mushy and the little bit of meat (they should call them "shred"meat tacos) because the was barely any. And itwas cold. The lettuce was the only thing warm due to it sitting under a heat lamp or on the counter prior to being brought to our table. It was very poor dining experience. Rice needs Jesus to be saved, it's very unflavored and I'm assuming used as a plate filler. Beans are palatable if you add salt. The 2 crunchy tacos I got were not good. The ground beef one was "ok" but the potato one was just plain bad. My husband ordered a Chile verde pork spicy. That was honestly good, tender and good flavor. He also ordered a chicken crunchy taco. Chicken tasted refrigerated and not fresh. Think a rotisserie chicken when it gets freezer burn.. you know the taste. We are regular customers here, unfortunately my grandson found a hair in the carnitas burrito then at the same time my daughter found plastic inside the carnitas burrito, we are so grossed out that we decided to stop eating altogether. I want to start by saying that my family are regulars here, at least once a week. This was our second visit this week. So.. normally we like the food. I was the 4th person to order food this morning when Baja Sonora opened at 10:55 am. Among other things, I ordered 6 crunchy tacos Togo. I will say that their crunchy tacos are normally hot, juicy, crunchy and delicious. Something I would regularly order at Baja Sonora. I took my to go order to share with my 90 year old uncle and was embarrassed with what I received. These tacos seemed to have been put together with leftover shells (they were cold and dry) and the chicken was extremely dry and tasteless, I think they were also yesterday's leftovers. I had a hard time chewing the "jerky like" chicken meat. I can only imagine how my 90 yr old uncle was faring. I apologized profusely as he was smiling trying to choke down the tacos. I understand that we were there first thing upon opening, but if you can't drop fresh tacos in the fryer that early, or the wait will be a little longer... why don't you just say so? Very disappointed, Baja Sonora, you can do better. I spent over $5 for each taco, totally not worth it. Not sure if I will be back. read more

This is a great choice if you're looking for quick service and good quality food. I enjoyed my surf & turf burrito. The portion size was pretty big, as it was too big for me to finish all in one sitting. However, I took the rest togo and enjoyed it later! I also appreciate how there is an area in the restaurant that provides unlimited chips and salsa! It's a great appetizer to enjoy before receiving the food. I ordered a #7 combo they brought our food I went to move my plate and burned my finger extremely bad. The girl that brought our food didn't even tell me the plate was hot. Not a normal heat. Scorching hot. Im not sure where the plate was but there was no need for that plate to be that hot. Grabbing it with napkins to move it and still feeling the heat through it. My finger is extremely red and looks like it may bubble. I'm mad because #1 that was not safe #2 the girl didn't warn me and #3 I couldn't even enjoy my food after getting hurt. It's a casual place where you order at the front, then self service for everything else - chips and salsa, utensils, drinks, napkins and find your own table. What I do like is they have to go containers and bags ready to go, too! Love that they had a chips and salsa bar with 5 different salsas, limes and peppers. I like trying lots of flavors. My fave was the medium red salsa. Asada Taco - this was huge! I had to eat some of the meat before trying to pick it up because it was so big. Flavor was a okay. Prices were very reasonable. I was able to get a taco, a drink and comp chips and salsa for about $10 for lunch. What a steal! Service was quick and friendly. Plenty of meat and just the right amount of beans and rice inside. The second time I had the nachos and was very happy with how they're prepared. The salsa bar also had some very good selections to choose from. The parking lot is small & tight but once inside area have a lot of tables to choose from. We love their dog-friendly patio for dine-in, but this time we took advantage of the free chips and salsa bar to-go. The Food: Baja (Wet) Burrito: Massive (2 lbs!) and easily fed two. The other day I had my first experience here at Baja Sonora. I've always wanted to try it since it's so close to home. When we arrived we noticed the place was cozy, clean and decorated. The menu has plenty of options to choose from including vegetarian options! I usually stick to traditional plates when I do mexican but I went the seafood route and ordered a salmon bowl which was just incredible. They also have a salad bar with delicious freshly made tostadas and salsa! We just had to get seconds for that salsa. The whole time we were there, people kept coming and coming to pick up orders and dine in. Very busy. This says alot about how good the food is. The staff was great and courteous but what sealed the deal for me was the warm and friendly welcome by the owner mike. While at our table, Mike came and asked how we were doing with a smile on his face. He then walked around and did the same for other guests. He was very cheerful and had great chemistry with his staff. Places like this are few and far between.
