I'm exploring my neighborhood on my daily walks with my dog. This hidden gem is located in my hood on a busy street, a few blocks from the Beach. This restaurant is local and in walking distance literally 5 minutes from my house. I decided to try it after I completed my walk. Located on the corner of Broadway and Orange. It's a true mom and pop 20 years owned and in the neighborhood. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon walking in your greeted immediately. The restaurant is clean old school in decor and very welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I spent a few minutes talking to the owner about the restaurant she's a doll and very kind. I decided on a combination plate potato taco cheese enchilada rice and beans. I added pico de gallo to my order it costs extra. Salsa is free. Potato Taco Potato, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and cilantro. It's a very small taco I need this to be bigger in a combination meal. It's tasty too. 8/10 Rice Again small portions but it tastes very flavorful. 8/10 Beans Small portion very good flavor and seasoned well. 10/10 Habanero salsa Spicy deliciousness I loved it. 10/10 Avocado sauce? Spicy and soo good. 10/10 Pico De Gallo Too many onions for my taste it definitely needs more balance with tomatoes and jalapeno peppers but the flavor was good. 6/10 Salsa Very mild flavor and in heat it paired well with the complimentary chips. 7/10 Complimentary homemade and fresh fried. Tortilla Chips that were crunchy very fresh and taste soo good. 10/10 I'm glad I stopped by I'll definitely return I want try their Pozole Tamales and more of the salsas and chips. Until next time. This is my local spot. My favorite thing to get here is the machaca breakfast burrito. The shredded beef is incredible and its so big. I normally split it and eat half for lunch. Their norma red salsa isnt very hot but is very pepper heavy so heads up. read more

Disappointing after reading a review of increased price and greed. I agree! I was about to delete my previous review but decided for an update. I stopped going here since my usual plate had increased by $5. I remember the increase since the start of covid of $1 and then $2 which was ok, but for no reason at all the same entre kept increasing. I used to love this place. They have gotten so ridiculous. I went in to order a BRC burrito chimichanga style and she said "18.98" I said "18 dollars for beans, cheese and rice?" She said "it comes with sour cream and guacamole" I said "you mean the 1/4 of an ounce size "scoop" you put next to it?" The sour cream and guacamole is a teaspoon of each at best. OK, this place is pretty amazing... Their Mole is bomb! So spicy and sweet. I absolutely enjoyed my plate when I came here on an early Friday night. It's pretty hard to find a well-made mole, but they definitely know what they're doing. I would say that my plate was rather pricey. During the shutdowns due to the pandemic we've been trying to support local, non-chain restaurants. Hacienda Ruan is a family Mexican restaurant run by nice people. We were walking by and a woman popped out to give us a takeout menu, and we called in our order later that day. It was ready within 15 minutes and nicely packaged with a couple of salsas. I really enjoyed the smooth guacamole salsa that had a hint of spice. I haven't eaten inside but it looks homey and has a classic Hispanic feel to it. We ordered the Mar y Tierra Burrito with Carne Asada, grilled shrimp, rice, pinto beans, pico and cheese. It was pretty good, and I highly recommend that you order it wet. The slightly less good dish was the Enchiladas served with rice and beans, which was lacking a bit in flavor. I went with one beef and one chicken, and the beef enchilada was more flavorful than the chicken. The food was similar to Super Mex in my opinion. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I don't know how this place is in business. The enchilada looked like it was made in 5 min. It was just chicken rolled in a tortilla with cheese and sauce poured on top. It still looked good, just lazy, but when I cut into the "enchilada" the chicken was the pinkest I've ever seen! When I told the waiter, she said that's normal and it stays pink like chicken tuna. I said "what is chicken tuna?" And the waiter shows me a picture of Chicken of the Sea brand TUNA!! She didn't believe me when I told her that's not chicken! I can't make this up. At that point I really didn't trust her about the chicken. She was still sweet and offered to take it back if I wasn't comfortable eating it. I was so hungry by then that instead of leaving I asked for a beans rice and cheese burrito with red wet sauce. I thought you can't mess that up and there's no meat so it felt safe. But the wet sauce on the burrito was brown and tasted like thanksgiving gravy. For all of that, even though she didn't charge me for the enchilada and taco plate, I payed almost $20 for chicken that could have given me food positing and a burrito that was aweful. Everything on this menu is so good. From their burritos, to their tacos & their plates, everything I've had is amazing. My go to is the California burrito or the El Salvador burrito - you need to get extra green salsa because it is just to die for!!! Their chips are addictive, I finish them every time I say I'm not going to. Their crispy tacos are so good I get them in addition to anything else I order. One time I forgot I ordered and I was 30 min late to pick it up and they had kept my burritos warm for me that whole time! I remember this place when it was called Mi Lupita's. Several years ago they didn't speak English very well, and my Spanish is limited, but they always treated me like family, and their food was consistently delicious! Although I moved out of the area long ago, I think it's still run by the same people. I notice they still have the George Deluxe burrito on their menu. I used to get it with carne asada and mojado style "to go" for my friend who lived several cities away, but said their George Deluxe burrito was the bomb! Really nice place & great food. We usually get a taco for our dog too ... if we had given this taco to our dog it could have killed her!!! We decided to look for an authentic Mexican place in the morning after a night of partying for a nice hot bowl of pozole and lo and behold, Google Maps directed us to Hacienda Ruan. It had a very unpretentious setting with excellent ambiance and staff- lots of booths and a friendly owner named Olga. She kindly went over the menu telling us what was great here and we decided to stick with the pozole as that was what we wanted- but not only was there red pozole, there was also green pozole! The dishes were just as good as what we had in Mexico! The flavor was full and we could tell the ingredients were fresh. We will definitely come back to try the rest of their delicious menu- there are a lot of authentic-looking dishes here! This will definitely be a regular place for us! read more

I came here due to the taco Tuesday deal advertised in their pictures (which is no longer a thing) and was let down knowing I wouldn't be enjoying my initial planned meal of street tacos and a margarita. I tried the number 7 combo with tamale, enchilada, and a taco plate. Now I don't think I've ever given a Mexican restaurant this low a star but it was truly terrible. None of my meal was appealing look or taste wise and I actually left the taco unfinished since I rather not put this "stuff" in my body since it's far from food. I also like many reviewers have a slightly rumbling tummy following this meal.
