I came to Maya Fuego on a packed Friday night, and when I say packed, I mean packed to the brim. It was a beautiful hot summer evening, the view was amazing, and I came solo because apparently no one wanted to have a steak with me . I was honestly pretty disappointed when I was told I wouldn't be able to wait for an outside table. Then Michael came through. He noticed I was by myself and saw an opportunity to fit me into a spot outside next to the band that apparently nobody else wanted. Since I was solo, he made it happen -- and that small gesture completely made my experience. That's what great hospitality is about. When there's an opportunity to make a customer happy without negatively affecting anyone else, you make it happen. Michael could have easily just left things as they were, but instead he paid attention, found a solution, and turned what started as a disappointing situation into an amazing Friday night. Sitting outside next to the band with the summer weather and the view ended up being exactly the experience I was hoping for. Michael, thank you so much. I genuinely appreciate what you did for me. I made reservation for Fuego for my fiancés birthday. I was looking for a nice breakfast place with a beautiful view and while the view was amazing, the restaurant itself left us wanting more. I will say, I should have read these reviews before hand because I would have changed mine mind. Buuuuut here we are lol For starters, I made reservations that seemed pointless. We got there, and told them about the reservations and they didn't know about them. Luckily for us, the place wasn't packed. We sat on their outside patio and it was a beautiful view of the ocean and Queen Mary. That was 10/10! We were given their menu and to our surprise, it was VERY LIMITED! So that was a bummer. I think at that point, I was ready to go. My fiancé was such a great sport about it though and we decided to stay and make the best of the situation. I will say, service was incredible. Everyone was super nice and that made staying worth it. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, a caesar salad with chicken and one with salmon, and the steak with potatoes plate. My toddler wanted pancakes and our waitress was so accommodating and went to ask the cafe if they could make him some before closing. Thankfully they were able to and my toddler got his pancakes. The food was good, but nothing amazing. We were left underwhelmed and for such a perfect location, I wish they had more options. They did gift my fiancé a dessert for his bday. This place may have been good once, but it is absolutely terrible and severely overpriced now. First off, the menu is now extremely limited to their "bar menu" or "cafe menu" for breakfast. There are not many options or sides to choose from. Had the baby gem caeser salad--not actually a caeser salad, no anchovies, and the croutons were soft and soggy. Even the pickled onions were somehow soggy. Got the sun-kissed NA drink--tasted terrible and looked gross on top. Weird bubbly foam and gross chunks floating on top. The food all came out way too quickly and just seemed like pre-made food. The ambiance was nice, but they have a serious bug problem. All over the entire property there are small little gnat-like flies that bite you. I got bit probably 20 times during dinner alone. On top of it all, they charge a 20% service fee yet still ask for a tip. Mind you, the service was not anything special. Actually, someone brought us waters, and then another person brought us waters again. It was the strangest thing and seemed like he was drunk or something. We also ordered room service and got the churros. Tasted like cardboard, came with the ice cream melted on top so they were also soggy, and I'm pretty sure we're just some frozen food. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have the full experience since the restaurant was doing a photo shoot while I was there, which made the atmosphere feel a little off. The ocean views are definitely beautiful and probably the highlight of the visit. The drinks were good, but nothing that really stood out. Based on the photos online, I expected a more exciting menu, but I ended up feeling a bit underwhelmed. I skipped ordering an entrée because the menu wasn't what I expected. Instead, I ordered a few appetizers, and they were pretty simple and lacked much flavor. The service was good, and the staff was friendly. It looked like there were only a couple of servers working, so I don't think the slower pace was their fault. Overall, I'd recommend Fuego if you're looking to grab a few beers, enjoy some appetizers, and relax with a great ocean view. Fuego is Hotel Maya's restaurant. This review is for the cafe portion of the restaurant, which is the only part that is open early in the day. For the rest of the restaurant (which opens at 11am and offers a more extensive menu) I defer to other reviews. My family and I stayed in the hotel over the weekend and on an early Sunday morning (around 10am) I brought the kids here to give mom some much needed rest. I was immediately struck by the beautiful view - overlooking the Queensway Bay and the Long Beach waterfront. The restaurant is breezy, clean, and open, resembling a Mexican / Central American beach resort that the hotel themes itself around. I was quite surprised, however, to see a very abbreviated, expensive menu even at 10am, and the hardworking, amicable staff pulling small items from the refrigerator and heating them in a toaster oven. The overall picture was highly reminiscent of Starbucks, but with marginally higher quality and three times the price. I asked if anything was available that was made fresh, and the staff pointed out the main restaurant wouldn't open until 11am. We ordered the croissant sandwich ($18) and country toast ($13), and after 15 minutes for the sandwich and 25 minutes for the toast they arrived. While good, the croissant sandwich was definitely reheated, likely assembled from a number of components from a Sodexho catalog, the sausage patty definitely not homemade, and the egg a pre-made disc. No shells were cracked in the making of this one. The toast was attractive enough, but was not really toast at all - just bread with cheese and jam on top. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. While I'm deducting a point for the very long wait time for such simple, assembled food to reach us, the staff was excellent. They enjoyed greeting and playing with the children, helped with the stroller, and offered us a chocolate milk gratis after noting how long we were waiting for our simple order (with my children complaining about how famished they were). It's likely the lack of any competition in the area that keeps prices high and food quality low, but I can't help but think that some simple managerial decisions on hours and prices would make things much better. Despite fantastic staff I can't recommend Fuego's cafe. Perhaps the main restaurant would be better for a proper breakfast, but on a Sunday morning I'd expect it to open sooner. While the view is excellent, with middling food analogous to Starbucks and markedly elevated prices, if you're at the Maya I recommend you sleep in, or, better, hop across the Bay for superior options. Today was a fail in so many ways. Let me start by saying that I've been here several times and all other times were great. Today however was a true disappointment! First I'll start with decor, they have updated the decor and it looks amazing! I loved the decor. Service was great ! I won't complain about that at all. The drinks were also fantastic, but very expensive! Food was just horrible!! The menu has very limited options. You either got a taco plate or some poke nachos. We came here for my in laws birthday. He was the only one who was happy with his meal. I got poke nachos with tuna that was chopped so small you tasted more chips than anything. There were 7 of us. 1 out of 7 is not ok. We did speak to the manager and he was great help. He did comp some items which we obviously appreciated it. I personally won't be back. My only knock on this place is the seating. If you're planning out having dinner they will try to sit you on the fire pit, which is not a good place to have dinner. Just giving you a heads up. Long Beach is packed with incredible restaurants. Somehow, for my friend's birthday, we managed to find a dud. We made a reservation, mentioned on the phone that it was a birthday, and reminded them again when we arrived. They seated us, handed us... one menu for the table, and left us to contemplate our life choices. About 30 minutes later after we started wondering if our server had transferred to another restaurant, I had to track down a manager just to get someone to greet us. To his credit, he apologized and comped our first round of drinks and an appetizer, which was appreciated. Unfortunately that was the only redeemable detail of this whole experience. . The menu was surprisingly limited and they were already out of the ceviche. The ocean view? Gorgeous. The service? More elusive than Ted Cruz during state emergencies. Our cocktails were around $20 each and served in plastic cups. I kept waiting for someone to tell me the real glasses were coming. They weren't. The appetizers finally arrived, and then... silence. Another 30 minutes passed and no one had checked on us. Once again, I had to flag someone down just to order another round because apparently making eye contact was the restaurant's version of table service. The food itself wasn't worth the wait. The nachos genuinely reminded me of Taco Bell not as an insult to Taco Bell, which at least knows exactly what it is. The calamari was actually decent, but it couldn't carry the rest of the meal. We were on our way to the Lil Wayne concert at the amphitheater afterward, so abandoning ship wasn't really an option. By the time we finished even after they comped an appetizer and our first round, two more appetizers and three cocktails still came to $127. We asked them to validate our parking. They took the ticket, came back and told us it was validated. We pulled out of the parking lot.. and still got charged $45. The concert which unlike dinner was awesome. Long Beach has too many fantastic restaurants to spend your money here. I'd happily come back for the view. I'd just eat literally anywhere else first. I have been here several times, including staying at the hotel 2x during the pandemic. I have never eaten anything that wasn't delicious. The atmosphere is amazing - gorgeous water views. The property theme is well represented throughout, including at Fuego. The service is always friendly and professional but sometimes a little slow. I haven't ever had it be unacceptably slow, though, just laid back. I will continue to frequent even when not staying at the hotel. Totally recommend! read more

I'm going to start out with the positives. This restaurant is beautiful. It's right on the water with fire pits for added ambience. Now for the negatives, we were staying at the Maya Hotel and after a long drive we were ready for a couple drinks. We walked in, found two seats at the bar, sat down and the waiting begun. The bartender finally came over to provide menus and then went MIA for 5ish minutes before he took our drink order. I ordered the margarita and my husband ordered the tropical eclipse. The drinks came out fairly quickly but didn't taste as advertised. The menu listed the margarita as a top shelf with premium tequila, Cointreau, agave and lime but tasted like a premade margarita with not much alcohol. The eclipse was not much better. It just kept getting worse, no chips and salsa and after we got our drinks, we didn't see the bartender for 30 mins. This is not the quality of drinks or service I would expect for at an $18 price point with an auto 20% gratuity added on top. The bill for 2 mediocre drinks was $48, outrageous. I will not be coming back to Fuego and will also be picking a different hotel to stay at as this location is pretty isolated and we often want dinner and drinks when we're in town. Between passings and relocations, our family Christmases are looking different these days, and trying to cobble together a big family holiday like the days of yore is just an exercise in depression - all we see are the faces missing. So my son, his partner, and my BFF have started a new tradition of going to Fuego each Christmas (well, for the past two, anyway), and both times have been great. But really, I'm offering this review because of the nachos. I am not an "appetizers" person, and I am definitely not a nachos person. I mean, they're fine, but not something I often seek out (unless it's 1a, I'm hammered, and Taco Bell is the only thing open). But these nachos... I'm going to dream of them. Big fat spicy jalepenos, and the cheese, omg, the cheese. I mean, seriously, stop what you're doing and go to Fuego and order the nachos. I ordered the salmon as an entree (pictured; I'm also not a food-picture-taker, but this one merited being That Person in the restaurant), and it was similarly excellent - and the serving and its complements were so generous that I was grateful I didn't order a side. They also serve the best margarita I've had this side of Mexico, and their expresso martini (yeah, I'm a BB that way) was the best I've ever had, hands down. If it wasn't $21, I would've had three. Instead I opted for one, and two $18 margs. Ha. Service was fantastic, though I think our server got a little frustrated/confused when after three stops by the table and two rounds of drinks, we still hadn't stopped talking long enough to make our decisions. Finally, I rallied the troops to actually figure it out so that the fourth time he came by, we were ready. But, he was ever patient with us, and super friendly. I wish I'd gotten his name so I could call him out here. ANYWAY. It's a trick getting there - yes, I did end up going over the bridge, after not trusting my nav and remarking to my friend that I was scared of ending up going over the bridge. Then... on the bridge. I HATE driving over bridges, especially that one. It's still a little confusing, even if you aren't dumb like me; you have to wind your way around a little bit, but it's not so difficult that you should avoid going. Parking is validated - or at least, was today. I'd give them five stars, but for my lack of experience on any day that isn't a major US holiday, I feel like I have to err on the side of that lack of experience. Either way, Fuego is awesome. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with the manager at Fuego was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share it. I have dined at countless restaurants, from casual establishments to fine dining venues, and I am known for treating staff with respect and generosity. During my visit, I spent approximately $400 on brunch, remained at the restaurant for about two hours, and tipped more than $200 to the staff who provided excellent service. Every server and employee I interacted with was professional, welcoming, and courteous. Unfortunately, the manager was the complete opposite. Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from the moment I interacted with her. While the rest of the team made me feel valued as a guest, the manager made it clear that my presence was not appreciated. What makes this even more surprising is that the restaurant had plenty of available seating during my visit. There was no apparent reason for the hostility or lack of hospitality. A restaurant's success depends heavily on leadership, and unfortunately, the manager's behavior undermines the hard work of an otherwise excellent staff. I specifically chose not to tip the manager because I do not reward disrespectful treatment. The servers and staff absolutely deserved recognition and were compensated accordingly. Fuego recently reopened after a remodel, and I genuinely hope ownership pays attention to customer feedback. The staff is outstanding, but poor management can drive away loyal customers. Based solely on my experience with the manager, I would not recommend this restaurant to friends, family, or business associates. The service could use abit more friendlier since he was not that friendly or attentive as I would hope for. Had to catch him couple of time for ordering (especially when it's not that busy from the beginning). Menu is smaller than I remembered but still varies choices. Foods are okey, nothing special and for the prices, you know you're paying for the views more...and is it worth it? You could bring foods and use the grass area in-front with same view and closer to the water or sideway for free. Drinks are goods, could be better, again with that price. Parking is not free, you can get validated and cost $5 but if there is a cashier at the parking lot. I had to paid $45 for 3.5hrs for it. Came to fuego located at Hotel Maya. Sat outside by the heaters for dinner, nice view of the water and lights, food was good definitely the portion for ceviche was larger than I expected. I asked for a half order of the fuego guacamole so they got me a side and 3 Skirt steak tacos. I was beyond stuffed. Just came off a 5hr flight and I acted like I have never eaten. I cannot complain about the food the past pictures made me worried but it looks like they've stepped up their game since some of the previous pictures I saw in the yelp reviews. Ceviche was yummy ate it all with no Chips. Food service was quick, food was good, prices are not cheap but it's the convenience of getting to your hotel and knowing you don't have to drive, catch a cab or find a restaurant after a long day. Walked the back of the hotel to my room and took in more of the site. Next day ordered room service by Fuego. Generous sized burrito with lots of condiment choices, juicy cantaloupe was the perfect pairing and a nice size glass of orange juice for the price. read more

Incredible food, beautiful views, and even better service!!! My husband and I happened to come to this restaurant from a recommendation from our guide after jet skiing nearby. We are so glad we did. I was first very pleased to see they had NA drink selections. It was happy hour so we ordered some tacos. They were INCREDIBLE. (And if you're from LB you know that are some good tacos in LB so my husband and I are very picky, but these surpassed our expectations.) The meat was very tender and the salsas were delicious. We also got chips and guacamole which is made fresh daily. RICARDO was the absolute best and gave us the best experience!!! My wife and I were staying at Maya which is connected to Fuego. It is traditional Mexican food with lots of flavor. They do have other options to choose from but it is limited. The burger did look good from a table across from us. Nachos are loaded up. Service was excellent as we sat down and were eating within 10-15 minutes. Yum!! We stayed at Hotel Maya for a night & got this for dinner. I got the skirt steak tacos & a just peachy mocktail, both were very good! The mocktail didn't really have a peach flavor though. The tacos were great- the steak was tender & they were loaded! Service was great, we encountered a couple servers & all were very friendly & helpful. We went about 4pm so it wasn't the full menu but they had good options regardless. If we're ever back in Long Beach, we will definitely eat here again. read more

The first thing our server told us was that he had another reservation for our table at 6:30 PM (ours was at 5:00 PM), making us feel rushed from the start. Fuego vibes are absolutely beautiful, it's nestled on the LB harbor and the new remodel looks great overall. I'm going to give it some time to get it's legs underneath itself, but as of right now the overall experience at Fuego simply isn't there. The food and drinks are very "mid" at best.. The quality of meats, seafood, bacon, eggs, etc are fairly low quality and the Poke Nachos seem to be a bit haphazard in how they are delivered. The cocktails are not quite there yet either. Both cocktails my wife and I had were very average and seemed to be made in a rush as well. Service was a bit slow, but the server Enrique was super nice & knowledgeable. I think if they can improve food presentation, improve their cocktail + bar program and HIGHLY improve the quality of food in which they are serving along with a better presentation.... the food & drinks would match the beautiful "vibes" and the $$$ price... He ordered the picture. It was $75 but he figured it was worth the splurge. He asked the waiter what was the ratio of orange juice to champagne and the waiter said 90% champagne 10% orange juice. My spouse decided to order it. Almost the entire pitcher was orange juice. We tried to complain several times and we were ignored by the waiter. He did not offer to make it right, bring an actual pitcher of mimosas, or take off the charge from our bill. We will be disputing the charge with our credit card company. We saw other patrons being served mimosas which appeared to be actual champagne with orange juice. The food was bland and not great. The customer service was awful. Just a heads up they will charge you a 20% automatic gratuity for any table. Maybe this is why the customer service is so bad. They do not have to earn the tip. Wow... what a disappointment after waiting for it to be reopened. I don't know what they did with remodel, but it didn't look like much had changed. Everything was overpriced. No live music as promised on a Sunday... Brunch We just ended up saying for one drink which cost $60 for two of us. No thank you Went to Ruth's Chris... Saved a few $ Had way better drinks and food. Valentine's Day brunch at Fuego inside the Maya Hotel did not disappoint! The view of the Queen Mary was stunning, and the Mexican food hit the spot. The menu had plenty of options, including a kid-friendly menu, so everyone could find something they loved. Nothing was a game-changer, but the friendly staff and gorgeous views made up for it. Would be a great spot to bring the family or enjoy a casual celebration. read more

Food was nice, quick service and nice people. It was pretty empty but we went early and on a weekday so thats probably why. Views are amazing, if you love the coast. I loved the guacamole and roasted fuego sauce tho. 8.5/10 def recommend ! read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I think it's important to share an honest experience. Unfortunately, our server, Alfonso, provided disappointing service. After taking our order, he never came back to check on us, ask if we needed anything, or see if we were satisfied with our meals. The service felt inattentive from start to finish. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. While I have no problem tipping well for good service, I believe tips should reflect the quality of the service provided. In this case, I don't feel the service justified the automatic gratuity. I hope management will address this so future customers receive the level of service they expect. read more
