I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with the manager at Fuego was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share it. I have dined at countless restaurants, from casual establishments to fine dining venues, and I am known for treating staff with respect and generosity. During my visit, I spent approximately $400 on brunch, remained at the restaurant for about two hours, and tipped more than $200 to the staff who provided excellent service. Every server and employee I interacted with was professional, welcoming, and courteous. Unfortunately, the manager was the complete opposite. Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from the moment I interacted with her. While the rest of the team made me feel valued as a guest, the manager made it clear that my presence was not appreciated. What makes this even more surprising is that the restaurant had plenty of available seating during my visit. There was no apparent reason for the hostility or lack of hospitality. A restaurant's success depends heavily on leadership, and unfortunately, the manager's behavior undermines the hard work of an otherwise excellent staff. I specifically chose not to tip the manager because I do not reward disrespectful treatment. The servers and staff absolutely deserved recognition and were compensated accordingly. Fuego recently reopened after a remodel, and I genuinely hope ownership pays attention to customer feedback. The staff is outstanding, but poor management can drive away loyal customers. Based solely on my experience with the manager, I would not recommend this restaurant to friends, family, or business associates. Fuego vibes are absolutely beautiful, it's nestled on the LB harbor and the new remodel looks great overall. I'm going to give it some time to get it's legs underneath itself, but as of right now the overall experience at Fuego simply isn't there. The food and drinks are very "mid" at best.. The quality of meats, seafood, bacon, eggs, etc are fairly low quality and the Poke Nachos seem to be a bit haphazard in how they are delivered. The cocktails are not quite there yet either. Both cocktails my wife and I had were very average and seemed to be made in a rush as well. Service was a bit slow, but the server Enrique was super nice & knowledgeable. I think if they can improve food presentation, improve their cocktail + bar program and HIGHLY improve the quality of food in which they are serving along with a better presentation.... the food & drinks would match the beautiful "vibes" and the $$$ price... Second time come in here for dinner and the view is really nice. This place is on the upper side of pricey. And the menu is not that Big. But the food is OK. My only knock on this place is the seating. If you're planning out having dinner they will try to sit you on the fire pit, which is not a good place to have dinner. Just giving you a heads up. Loved the view here and haven't been back for awhile. It got upgraded in outside and the menu. The service could use abit more friendlier since he was not that friendly or attentive as I would hope for. Had to catch him couple of time for ordering (especially when it's not that busy from the beginning). Menu is smaller than I remembered but still varies choices. Foods are okey, nothing special and for the prices, you know you're paying for the views more...and is it worth it? You could bring foods and use the grass area in-front with same view and closer to the water or sideway for free. Drinks are goods, could be better, again with that price. Parking is not free, you can get validated and cost $5 but if there is a cashier at the parking lot. I had to paid $45 for 3.5hrs for it. And they automatically added the service fee 20% (which I would normally give or better) to the bill. Was abit disappointed but with views and weekend, I try not to think much of it. read more

I have been here several times, including staying at the hotel 2x during the pandemic. I have never eaten anything that wasn't delicious. The atmosphere is amazing - gorgeous water views. The property theme is well represented throughout, including at Fuego. The service is always friendly and professional but sometimes a little slow. I haven't ever had it be unacceptably slow, though, just laid back. I will continue to frequent even when not staying at the hotel. Totally recommend! read more

I'm going to start out with the positives. This restaurant is beautiful. It's right on the water with fire pits for added ambience. Now for the negatives, we were staying at the Maya Hotel and after a long drive we were ready for a couple drinks. We walked in, found two seats at the bar, sat down and the waiting begun. The bartender finally came over to provide menus and then went MIA for 5ish minutes before he took our drink order. I ordered the margarita and my husband ordered the tropical eclipse. The drinks came out fairly quickly but didn't taste as advertised. The menu listed the margarita as a top shelf with premium tequila, Cointreau, agave and lime but tasted like a premade margarita with not much alcohol. The eclipse was not much better. It just kept getting worse, no chips and salsa and after we got our drinks, we didn't see the bartender for 30 mins. This is not the quality of drinks or service I would expect for at an $18 price point with an auto 20% gratuity added on top. The bill for 2 mediocre drinks was $48, outrageous. I will not be coming back to Fuego and will also be picking a different hotel to stay at as this location is pretty isolated and we often want dinner and drinks when we're in town. Between passings and relocations, our family Christmases are looking different these days, and trying to cobble together a big family holiday like the days of yore is just an exercise in depression - all we see are the faces missing. So my son, his partner, and my BFF have started a new tradition of going to Fuego each Christmas (well, for the past two, anyway), and both times have been great. But really, I'm offering this review because of the nachos. I am not an "appetizers" person, and I am definitely not a nachos person. I mean, they're fine, but not something I often seek out (unless it's 1a, I'm hammered, and Taco Bell is the only thing open). But these nachos... I'm going to dream of them. Big fat spicy jalepenos, and the cheese, omg, the cheese. I mean, seriously, stop what you're doing and go to Fuego and order the nachos. I ordered the salmon as an entree (pictured; I'm also not a food-picture-taker, but this one merited being That Person in the restaurant), and it was similarly excellent - and the serving and its complements were so generous that I was grateful I didn't order a side. They also serve the best margarita I've had this side of Mexico, and their expresso martini (yeah, I'm a BB that way) was the best I've ever had, hands down. If it wasn't $21, I would've had three. Instead I opted for one, and two $18 margs. Ha. Service was fantastic, though I think our server got a little frustrated/confused when after three stops by the table and two rounds of drinks, we still hadn't stopped talking long enough to make our decisions. Finally, I rallied the troops to actually figure it out so that the fourth time he came by, we were ready. But, he was ever patient with us, and super friendly. I wish I'd gotten his name so I could call him out here. ANYWAY. It's a trick getting there - yes, I did end up going over the bridge, after not trusting my nav and remarking to my friend that I was scared of ending up going over the bridge. Then... on the bridge. I HATE driving over bridges, especially that one. It's still a little confusing, even if you aren't dumb like me; you have to wind your way around a little bit, but it's not so difficult that you should avoid going. Parking is validated - or at least, was today. I'd give them five stars, but for my lack of experience on any day that isn't a major US holiday, I feel like I have to err on the side of that lack of experience. Either way, Fuego is awesome. Big hearts to them for a fun afternoon. Came to fuego located at Hotel Maya. Sat outside by the heaters for dinner, nice view of the water and lights, food was good definitely the portion for ceviche was larger than I expected. I asked for a half order of the fuego guacamole so they got me a side and 3 Skirt steak tacos. I was beyond stuffed. Just came off a 5hr flight and I acted like I have never eaten. I cannot complain about the food the past pictures made me worried but it looks like they've stepped up their game since some of the previous pictures I saw in the yelp reviews. Ceviche was yummy ate it all with no Chips. Food service was quick, food was good, prices are not cheap but it's the convenience of getting to your hotel and knowing you don't have to drive, catch a cab or find a restaurant after a long day. Walked the back of the hotel to my room and took in more of the site. Next day ordered room service by Fuego. Generous sized burrito with lots of condiment choices, juicy cantaloupe was the perfect pairing and a nice size glass of orange juice for the price. read more

My wife and I were staying at Maya which is connected to Fuego. It is traditional Mexican food with lots of flavor. They do have other options to choose from but it is limited. The burger did look good from a table across from us. Nachos are loaded up. Service was excellent as we sat down and were eating within 10-15 minutes. Yum!! We stayed at Hotel Maya for a night & got this for dinner. I got the skirt steak tacos & a just peachy mocktail, both were very good! The mocktail didn't really have a peach flavor though. The tacos were great- the steak was tender & they were loaded! Service was great, we encountered a couple servers & all were very friendly & helpful. We went about 4pm so it wasn't the full menu but they had good options regardless. If we're ever back in Long Beach, we will definitely eat here again. read more

I get the location one star because the views of the harbor are beautiful. Everything went downhill from there. My spouse was celebrating his 50th birthday and was very excited to have mimosas. He ordered the picture. It was $75 but he figured it was worth the splurge. He asked the waiter what was the ratio of orange juice to champagne and the waiter said 90% champagne 10% orange juice. My spouse decided to order it. Almost the entire pitcher was orange juice. We tried to complain several times and we were ignored by the waiter. He did not offer to make it right, bring an actual pitcher of mimosas, or take off the charge from our bill. We will be disputing the charge with our credit card company. We saw other patrons being served mimosas which appeared to be actual champagne with orange juice. The food was bland and not great. The customer service was awful. Just a heads up they will charge you a 20% automatic gratuity for any table. Maybe this is why the customer service is so bad. They do not have to earn the tip. Outside has a large fire pit. Nicely decorated. Good for large groups. The menu is not vast but has a decent selection. The staff was welcoming and the service was excellent. They were told there were no heaters available while heaters were visibly sitting next to them. I sat at the bar that runs along the water at sunset and the view was stunning. I got a bit cold as the sun went down and a server immediately rolled up a heat lamp. I ordered the mixed green salad which had character with these thinly sliced and pickled carrots and added a grilled salmon which was juicy. The cocktail was the only thing that was disappointing. I ordered the coconut lime which had honeydew liqueur and it tasted artificial like some kind of fruity scented bathroom cleaner. In the future I would not order a drink and knock off $20 off the total tab. They do also automatically include a 20% tip which I didn't realize until after the fact. Fuego has absolutely stunning views and great drinks, but unfortunately it also has mediocre food. I had the poke nachos and honestly they were a let down. Especially for Long Beach which has so many good seafood options. There were way too many chips compared to the sparse toppings. Barely anything to the nachos at all. I couldn't even tell you what the poke tasted like because there was hardly any of it. The chips and guacamole that we had as an appetizer were very solid. The guacamole was great. Everyone enjoyed their drinks. And again, the views are spectacular, which is what you come here for. Our servers were really nice and attentive. The decorations are touristy, but we came Fourth of July weekend so it might have just been because of the holiday. If you want a good drink with great views, come here. Fuego is still the satisfying restaurant that I experienced years ago. Seems folks have been disappointed with the service, but the service for my party of 6 was on top of things yet again. I've enjoyed every item I ordered here. This time, I got the Crab Cakes ($22) which were two generous cakes of jumbo lump crab meat fried with panko crust. The Choriqueso ($16) was a nice sharing plate of melted Oaxaca and asadero cheese with spinach and chorizo mixed in it. The Side Fuego Salad ($16) was more of a main! It was definitely larger than your regular side salad and the medley of pecans, goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes, and sliced apples in a creamy chipotle dressing was the perfect complement to our other dishes. For drinks this time around, I loved the French 75 and Premium Fuego Margarita. They do a great pour on the drinks! Romantic view of the LB skyline and water, high ceilings and Mayan decor makes you feel like you're in a resort far away. Our waitress was friendly be hilarious and helped us with questions regarding the cocktails. We had a Paloma and their version of an Old Fashioned. Little water down drinks but tasty. I would like to express when entering, I was welcomed by the manager with a great big smile. Seated immediately. Just wanted to express during this time they are doing renovations. Service is completed in a timely manner, since there wasn't a lot of people during that time. Mind you, I arrived around 8:30 PM or so. Forgot to mention, I was seated outside right next to the water, which was absolutely amazing! I don't know if there is an extended menu prior to the renovations, but the selection that they have on hand will definitely have you satisfied. I will be definitely coming back after the renovations have completed (I wish I would have asked when that was). I would also like to express since this place is inside a hotel you are required to pay a parking fee, but most will be validated at the front desk if you are not staying as a guest at Hotel Maya. I had the chance to dine here for Sunday brunch today. The view on the outside patio was amazing, the food even better!! However the service was terrible, upon arrival the host seemed to be annoyed that we were there and didn't bother greeting us. We found the other person from our party and sat ourselves. My boyfriend and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary on 12/10 at Fuego . It was such a great experience the server was so kind and friendly. Being welcomed and being appreciated as guests is always a great feeling. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection although it was well done it was very easy to cut and chew. It can be difficult when you order a well done steak because at times it may be a little too well done, but thankfully, that was not the case here. We had a chance to take pictures out on the patio that overlooked the water and the Queen Mary. Both the server and another worker offered to take us pictures, which was very nice of them to do. The food was pretty good, and you have such a beautiful view of the ocean and the queen Mary when you sit out on the patio. The cocktails were delicious. We ordered the braised short ribs and the fillet of salmon. The downfall of this place was the service. It was extremely slow. We had to flag down anyone that was walking by just to get our order put in and get a water and to order more drinks, etc.. but I imagine this place would be a five out of five if the service was better because the food was tasty.
