    Chili cheese tots
    Teira R.

Glad I wandered into this spot! The bartender was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the patrons were very nice also. The drinks are strong, well-crafted, and there are also creative and interesting seasonal options. I enjoyed the happy hour, which offers both food and drink specials. I ordered the chili cheese tots, and they were very enjoyable for a bar meal. The tots had actual seasoning, melty cheese, and banana peppers that added a nice kick.

Every year we try to make an adventure out of trying Long beaches holiday bar menus. Our first adventure for this year was the Stache. I've always seen this place but was hesitant to try it because it's so hard to find parking. Luckily, I'm off on Mondays so we were able to come early enough to snag a front spot. We were met with a friendly hello as soon as we walked in. I felt so at ease. Ordered our drinks and some fried pickles from next-door. I really love that their partnered with the burger joint next-door so that you can actually get some real food while you're having a drink. The drinks were amazing. I love their Christmas menu. It had so many options and different variety of liquors for their drinks. Right now, they are very spruced out for the holidays, which is really fun. Again the bartender was amazing super friendly super nice very welcoming. My boyfriend who doesn't really care for bars love the place and love the vibe and definitely wants to come back when we haven't eaten so that we can enjoy a drink and a burger. Don't miss out worth the trouble of trying to find parking (the reason why I didn't give him five stars)

A dive bar vibe with amazing food and drinks! Bartenders were knowledgeable and super friendly. We happened to come the week they launched their new menu, so they were excited to explain all the drinks to us. Only complaint is the DJ was ridiculously loud starting at 9pm so we left to go somewhere less loud. BUT - we will absolutely be back!

Let me start by saying I'm giving this place 5 because as far as dive bars go, this one covers all the bases! Decent food menu and the Impossible. Smashburger I got was pretty good and a happy hour special. About 6 craft beers on tap, assorted bottled, cans and full bar. I happened upon this place after dropping someone off nearby and thought I'd hangout before I had to pick them up. Prices were very affordable and they had a good mix of music set in a dark bar setting with red lights here and there. Bartenders were all friendly and my drink was good. I will make it a point to come back the next time I am in area. Oh and move the bathroom! Haha

Went to another bar in the area that was closed for maintenance and my son's friend suggested we come here for a Smashburger. The Stache is attached to the Sideburns which makes some great burgers. This place looks like your typical bar and was very nice. The bar tender was the same girl that took our order next door and when asked, she allowed us to come over and have our food and beers here. Not a lot of people at 1 PM but that is probably a good thing :) They are very dark and the bathroom was clean. Definitely worth coming back.

Omg! So good! The fries, the curds, the sauce, the nuggets! Wow! Just wow!

I can't believe I haven't written a review here yet! (Thought I did!) Anyway, first came here last year for my sister's friend/band member's birthday party! (Jordan) And some of his art work was displayed for sale. It was pretty fun! The DJ booth looks cool! The giant screen allowed them to play their new music video for their band called Wamdingis! (Check them out!) That night was lit! Thank you to the bar tenders & chef! The fried cheese curds were unforgettable! Came back here another time with a girlfriend because she was sad about her guy. Anyway, we ordered the tater tots (yummy!) & some seltzer drinks. I sang a song for Karaoke night on Sunday. We also ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and added bacon! Omg! So glad we split it! That was too good! Then we bar hopped a little before going home. Tonight, I was supposed to help my sister's band with merch at the Santa Ana art walk but they finished before I got there so I turned around and went home and Lyfted here. Ordered the garlic lemon pepper wings & cheese curds! Mmmm! So good! Highly recommended! The kitchen is open until 1 or 2am! Woohoo! So this is def a 2-in-1 spot! Parking sucks on the streets so just Lyft here! Maybe I'll see you guys around!

You can get food from Sideburns, which is the restaurant Nextdoor. Same owner, the drinks are epic for this year's special holiday menu. " the Naughty Lodge" the bar staff have gone all out and if you need to visit to help get in the spirit(s) of the season, the decor ready for you.

Oh vegan chili cheese fries, how do I love thee, let me count the ways...

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Going strong and better than ever. The Stache has improved itself in my eyes over the past 10 years and many 4th Street Bar Crawls later. It's now become a reliable place for decent drinks, but more importantly, for their delicious vegan food, courtesy of Sideburns next door! Their vegan chili cheese fries is a must-order for me whenever I visit, and I think it's actually improved over the past few years, probably with the improvement in vegan cheese technology. I am bummed that their frosé machine seems permanently broken and I don't think they have the jukebox anymore, but it's still a fun place to hang and nosh with friends.

    Smash Burger w/ Jalapeños

I found this place after checking for a food place that opened late and had drinks! This bar is a good spot to relax and have a drink with friends. It has the local dive bar feeling and that was awesome. I ordered the Smash Burger and added jalapeños to the burger. The burger came out and the bread was soft and the burger was juicy and delicious. The burger had the fresh jalapeños which gave the burger a great spicy kick. The service was good, and we were always checked on. I believe our bartender's name was Joaquin. I would definitely come by when I am back in the area.

Went here in a whim.. it whimsical it was!! We all watched the wizard of Oz on a lot of monitors linked together as one giant daily. This was cool ! The food was so yummy and the DRINKS! Yasss!! Bring yourself and a friend to this fun ,prompt lively space! Service was fast and jolly. I'm grateful I gave it a try I will return! Follow their IG for a heads up on what's the event of the night ! Super fun time

Came for the food, but they had a great beer selection on draft. Got a freezing cold IPA that bit the spot. Ordered the Don Honcho burger because I was craving jalepenos. It was unique for sure. Added onion rings as well. Came out to $27 for everything. The onion rings were fire, but I literally only got 5 of them $7.50? They are a standalone item but came served with the burger, felt like I got the short end of the deal there. Also didn't come with any of the sauce it said they come with, had to ask for that. Cute little fun spot with good music too, I'll be back to give them another chance on the food :)

No frill, easy-going bar. Crowd ranges from first-stoppers to last-rounders. Holiday set up this year is cute! No wait to get in or order drinks. Friendly bartenders and great service. Food from Sideburns NEVER disappoints. Wins all around. Except maybe parking?

1 Star - Worst Experience I've Ever Had at a Bar…read more I've been to The Blind Donkey in downtown Long Beach before but what happened last night deserves to be shared. I came here with a friend last night and ordered a blonde beer that tasted completely off -- it genuinely tasted like blue cheese. My friend encouraged me to ask for a replacement since something was clearly wrong with it. When she brought it to the bar, the bartender told her he'd replace it and that it was on the house, but then made her pay for the second drink anyway. If I had known she'd still be charged, I would've just not asked for another drink. When I came up to the bar to clarify why she paid for something he said was comped, the bartender backtracked and said he "didn't mean" that. I asked if they could void the second charge, since this was supposed to be a simple replacement. He kept explaining that he is charging us for this second one because it was not a blonde, it was a white ale. I told him that's fine, but why did he say it was "on the house" and now charging us anyway? He ended up bringing over the manager. The manager was a short, Latino man with a hat on. He was incredibly rude from the moment he arrived explaining the beer was a blonde- which I know what I ordered, but tasted whack. He didn't look at us, didn't listen to anything we were saying, and without asking a single question he grabbed both drinks we paid for and dumped them down the drain. We were stunned -- we paid for both of them and now had nothing. When he came back, I calmly told him we paid for both drinks he just threw out. His response? "Don't expect to come here and get free drinks." Which is wild considering we never asked for anything free -- we were just trying to get the mistaken charge fixed. When I told him he needed to void the drink he dumped, he called security on us. We weren't loud, drunk, or confrontational. Security refused to give us the manager's name, and only one finally whispered "Ken," though at that point it felt like they were just saying anything to get us out the door. I've worked in customer-facing roles before. I understand dive bars aren't known for luxury service, but this wasn't about service -- it was about basic respect, integrity, and not charging customers for drinks you throw away yourself. I'm leaving this review as a Long Beach local, it's saddening to see how a popular bar like The Blind Donkey treats their customers. This was the worst experience I've ever had.

And this one time I was there alone with another, no other patrons just staff members walking around from time to time. We stole the moment to dance under the Long Beach sky, just the two of us as a famous Christina Perrio song gently wafted in the night breeze. At another separate time, I was at the Los Angeles County Fair with another. We rode the ferris wheel at such a time where our gondola stopped at the top just as the sun set. The moment was nothing but beautiful and life affirming because the sinking of the sun's light was like a real life video of nature happening in front of us, unburdened by static or data stall. We witnessed nature resting, and I feel, that it was a kin to a beauty falling into a gentle sleep. These two instances have a common factor: momentary bliss arrived to bless an experience because the environment supported discovery of unplanned joy. That is what I associate with the Wicked Wolf, and this time the joy arrived eventually because when my Mom and I arrived to their high tea on Mother's Day the experienced seem like it would land nowhere good. Truth be told, my mom and I arrived 15 minutes early and there was no host in the stand and the place was empty except for a foursome. The energy felt lacked luster. One or two minutes after, the bartender informed us that we were early and the host would come soon. We sat in an available sofa for two, a loveseat persay. This gave us an opportunity to admire the decor that transported us to a storybook forest where good fairies reside, not like swamp creatures and trolls with malevolent fangs and dragon green eyes. I especially loved the large roses in the ceiling. To set the stage, the black ceiling had vines hanging from it, and the few roses were pops of crimson red displayed above. These were wonderful accents to the central mural of the joint that invited the viewer within deeper into the fairy forest where a light shone on an unseen meadow. The place had the decorations and general environment to be a lavender fairy's lounge, but, it did not fully work as a team room. For instance, my mom and I were sat in another lover's couch. Initially, I did not want to sit here because we were given circular tray sets. So imagine being told to sit in a couch, and each of us would get a tv tray. So I was left to wonder if we were going to be served tea in Belle's living room or if were going to watch a flick as we ate pollo loco bowl? But then as I settled into the tranquility of the moment, saw more people come and find their seat or couch, and as the serviced picked-up I realized that this was high tea in a place that had taken disjointed beauty and tackied it together for a patched tea experience that worked well. It was like the experienced was blessed and allowed by the same spirit that brought forth Raggedy Ann. For instance, the pictures show these pretty violet petaled tea cups and matching plates. This pairing was dainty and perfect for a tea party happening under pink veils. But then the sugar cubes came in a hedgehog shaped holder which was just as precious as seeing a piglet in a carriage built for one. Then the cream carrier was in the shape of a milk carton. I wondered where the missing child portrait was? The pastry plate was in the shape of a tropical flower like the ones scattered all over Hawaii. It belonged in a beautiful lei. Each of these elements was cute in its own delicate and whimsical way but together they made an eclectic hodgepodge, not a coherent tea set. And in this asymmetry laid the glitter of their error. The host also brought these clip on dainty hats that were perfect touches for make believe tea party. He carried them around in their original packing, including the box they came in. Not exactly the tailor of the queen, offering hats to the villagers as a gift from her to them, but still the effort magnified the moment. The tea food was the worst stumble that Red took as she was being chased by the Wicked Wolf. To begin with the end analysis, the tea offerings in general were standard, and not bites fit for a princess and her wedding court. For instance, the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich was just that---- a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. I detected no effort to make it more than that. The blueberry scone was solid, nothing to skip through a meadow about. But once you added the jam of the table to the scone it was much easier to enjoy. I also had a madeline that was fluffy in the center but could have been purchased maybe at Costco. I had a Macaron and same thing, delicious but I have had something similar before and I suspected that it did not come from a place afloat with Parisian affairs. The best part of the tiers was this puff like thing that had like a Concha texture and design at the top. It was a sweet filled bite that was fit for a man made of muffin.

I was really excited to visit this bar--I've always been a huge fan of fairy tales and thought the…read moretheme was such a fun concept for a bar. When we got there, I felt that the decorations and drinks felt a bit gimmicky, with random fairy tale-esque elements like a throne and massive red roses. I thought it would have been very cool to see Easter eggs and more intentionality bringing the atmosphere together. Since it was an hour before closing, we didn't plan to stay very long. The two people working at the bar were both unwelcoming and seemed upset that we were there (there were other people at the bar, including people who arrived later in the night than us). We paid for our drinks, which cost over $40 for 2 drinks with tip. My cocktail was $17 and came in a glass barely bigger than a shot glass. We left around the time they were calling for last call. I can understand not wanting stragglers who prevent the bartenders from closing late, but I would have much preferred being turned away at the door rather than paying and tipping for an overall unpleasant experience.

The cocktails are well thought out and well made. There are typically DJs on Friday and Saturday. Note: Parking is tough. We once scored one of the 4 parking spaces in their private lot, but mostly you have to hunt. Uber and Lyft, the A Line train or buses down Anaheim are you friend.

I came here with my sister in law and one of our girlfriends on Friday night (April 10th). When we…read moregot there it was a bit crowded but hey that is the nature of the game sometimes when going out to bars. So that didn't bother me too much. Me and my girls were able to get 3 seats at the bar. Like much of the other reviews. Service was slow and it took a long time to get a drink. However, as the night went on the crowd grew bigger and there were only 2 servers so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. That alone is not why I gave this place 1 star. I have came to this bar a few times in the past. It has been a couple of years since I have been back but my past experiences had been pleasant. At first everything was cool. Even with service being slow me and my girls were just talking and vibing with each other and those around us. We met some pretty cool people there. They have a small dance floor and we had a few drinks in us so went dancing. It was a great time. We ended up getting warm from the dancing and wanted to get a breather outside. We saw the door to the patio was open and people were outside. So we walked out and were just talking. One of my crew was smoking a cigarette. Then 2 of the staff members came out furious completely bypassing the other tables of people sitting outside and came directly to us. They started screaming and cussing at us saying we weren't supposed to be outside. One of them said "isn't it obvious can't you read?!" One of my friends said "no wasn't obvious" and my sister in law was telling them to calm down and that we would go inside. She told them that they were being incredibly rude because they were people outside and we thought it was open. As we went inside they still berated us. Two grown men yelling and cussing at us now from inside the bar. So we had hand enough and talked back because we were not going to be verbally attacked at a place that we spent money and our time at. We ended up deciding to leave and as we decided to leave, they followed us out and slammed the door on us and said that we weren't allowed in. Still yelling and cussing at us through the gated door. I started filming shortly around this time because I felt unsafe. Then they started mocking us saying "now look they are going to leave us a bad review." and I said yes we are because this experience was horrifying. I asked was because of our race? (because we were a diverse group of women). It went from two grown men yelling at us to silence. I want to make this clear. Though there were other people sitting outside that night. Lighter skinned people. We were the only ones targeted. No other individual outside was treated this way and no other staff intervened. If you are a woman. If you are of color, do not come here. We are not welcome.
