My dog walked me into here, so I had to check it out. The daytime bartender was incredibly nice and welcoming. I ordered a Pink Starburst, which was only $8--it was super cute and delicious! My dog was also welcomed and loved by the staff and patrons. I even struck up a few fun conversations with others at the bar. Unfortunately, things took a turn during the second bartender's shift. She was inattentive and spent most of her time on her phone. Despite raising my hand a few times, I couldn't get her attention to order another drink. To make matters worse, she actively served others sitting at the bar while continuing to ignore me. While the first bartender made a great impression, the change in service left me disappointed. I did meet a new friend, which was a highlight, but now I know to enjoy my time there early and head out when the second shift starts. read more

So I've driven by this spot many times but never checked it out because I had friends who always wanted to go to other places and karaoke bars, etc. But when I moved into the neighborhood a couple months ago... I've been meaning to check these spots out nearby and within walking distance too! Finally got to come last night and... wow!!! I love it! 2 pool tables?! Pinball machine and a punching game?! I just missed the DJ but why have I not come here sooner?! My date was at another bar waiting for me to come meet him but I told him I was walking here and for him to come meet me! I got to play a game with someone and then the guy I've been seeing and I got to play a game! I didn't know how good he was! Wow! But what a set up! Great bar! I'm definitely coming back! Due to the corporate battle interruption in watching the U. S. Open, an alternative to Spectrum Cable* was needed. Bf was across the street purchasing tacos and popped into newly opened The Hideaway, the former space of The Bird Dive Bar, to see if screens were available for tennis. Yes, screens are tuned in in the very comfortable atmosphere. There are specials to be had and when we return for future matches we will partake. There are pool tables in the spacious area. Bar reviews make for interesting reading. I hope to see that the public will soon discover that The Hideout is open for business. *Spectrum is offering $15 refunds should anyone who calls finds this amount acceptable. In the meantime, we will enjoy the U.S. Open matches at The Hideout hangout. read more

The atmosphere and people were great but the bartender was terrible! It seemed like she was understaffed which I know is not her fault but I asked for drinks multiple times and it took 30 minutes to get them in an almost empty bar. The bartender would acknowledge me and say she was making them and then she would get sidetracked and do 10 other things. At the end of the night when I closed out, she overcharged me a couple of rounds that we had never received. I tried to ask her about it and she was in denial and didn't even try to talk it out with me. Throughout most of the night, she seemed very sidetracked and under the influence. I never saw her actually drinking, but she was definitely stumbling around. I think because I asked her for drinks and never got them she might've walked over to the POS system and input them and then forget to serve them. I never caught her name because it was a little loud in there, but she was super skinny, wearing a dress and tights and her hair up in braids. Trevor H is a goofball, wtf is "The Bird". it used to be called Fern's and it was/still is. infamous. a living part of Long Beach history, it was a Punk Bar and I worked the door. I also worked the door at the V Room which is also great and still owned by my friends Richie and Candice. Long Beach was different then. the gentrification process had started but it hadn't ruined the scene yet. when you do East fourth st. either alone or with friends you start at The Pike, for dinner and drinks, sometimes live music. then you take a long walk down to THE HIDEOUT not bird. after that it's Red Room then The V and if you aren't satisfied with the people you've met and wanna try for the Hail Mary of going home with a stranger you revisit one of the unholy trinity that are in close proximity maybe try The Stach.. that came a little later but why not. the HideOut hasn't changed since it was Ferns. it still smells the same and I hope it always does. And Trevor, if you wanna spend less on Pool try running the table once in awhile. read more
