I visited Yard House today and ordered the Stacked Turkey Club, while my friend had the Korean BBQ Cheesesteak. The service was good overall. The host Denise was especially friendly and welcoming, and our waitress was attentive. Nothing was over the top, but everyone was pleasant. The Stacked Turkey Club biggest flaw? Was not the flavors, but the sandwich wasn't built in a way that made it easy to eat. Every time I picked it up, it started falling apart. The avocado slices slid out with almost every bite, making it pretty messy. I think pressing or spreading the avocado onto the bread instead of layering thick slices would help hold everything together and make it much easier to enjoy. The Korean BBQ Cheesesteak had really good flavor (but no cheese as stated in the name) the bread didn't quite work for the sandwich. It was very soft and had a texture that was too similar to the meat, so there wasn't much contrast. A baguette-style roll with a little more crunch on the outside while still being soft inside would have complemented the cheesesteak much better by adding texture and making the sandwich hold together better. The fries were one of the highlights, crispy, hot, and well seasoned. We also shared a sour beer that was excellent, although I can't remember the name. Even the pickles were surprisingly good. Overall, we enjoyed the meal, and the service was good. I just think a few small improvements to the way the sandwiches are assembled and the choice of bread would make them even better. My friends and I had an okay experience here. The food was good, and the atmosphere was lively, but it was definitely crowded. The only reason I come to Yard House is for the classic cheeseburger and the spinach dip--they never disappoint. The biggest downside was the service. Our waiter was actually very nice and did his best, which is why I'm giving two stars, but the overall experience wasn't great. The hostess was pretty rude when I asked if they validated parking. Speaking of parking, the lot is very small and shared with several other restaurants, so finding a spot was frustrating. We ended up paying $2 for two hours of parking. Since working in DTLB for 17 years now, Yard House has been one of our go-to spots for company's luncheons or Christmas parties or any kind of occasions. I like their lunch options, lots of variety to choose from, sometimes too many. I like that you can order from the tablet on the table and how big and spacious the restaurant is. This is also where you can watch all your sport games and it is one of the more fun places to watch the World Cup also. Ten minutes, he stopped to bring us water and get out order. The ordering tablet did not work, he took our order manually at around 315p. We ordered Nachos, Pizza and Calamari. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order and I ordered only a beer. My friend, ordered a Margarita took another 10 minutes after that. Nachos arrived at 415p, pizza at 430p and still missing the calamari. At 445p, at that time we were pretty full and thought about canceling the calamari. Shortly after at 505p calamari arrived. I understand short staffing from server and kitchen staff so we did not make a fuss. My bff and I were there to enjoy the afternoon and not in a hurry. Our server, Miguel V. did a wonderful job updating us about our order and almost apologetic regarding the wait and phasing of the orders. But this experience left us a bad impression that we are probably going to think twice about coming back. No complaints about the food, they were prepared fresh and delicious. Miguel V. managed the short comings very professionally, despite the kitchen shortcomings. I believe he was not set up for success. I will rate our experience 2 STARS because of that. read more

Sometimes it don't want to overthink dinner and then old comfort spots are handy. We came in for NYE dinner to grab some nibbles early in the evening and our timing was perfect. The place was hopping, as it usually is, being in a touristy sort of place, but you know there's plenty of locals here, too. What I really appreciated was, even though I think of NYE as a holiday, as did a couple other restaurants in this area, YardHouse did not. They honored HH bites and pricing. Since we were just looking for nibbles, this was perfect. Hubs went with the pepperoni pizza and I chose the calamari and sliders w/small fries. I also can't say no to their delicious, cold ON TAP cider, but did manage to remember I'm not in my 20s anymore, so I opted for the pint and NOT the yard. It was a very big challenge! (Fond memories of that yard long cold cider....) All the food was served hot and tasty and we were well cared for from the hostess to our server, to the food runners and bussers. They now have a semi-automated system of ordering at the table, but for us Old School folk, the staff was attentive and checked on us and kept orders up to speed so we didn't have to bother with that. Honestly, I think of the 'puter on the table as a means to ending in-person service, staff cuts and budget savings for corporate. Aside from that, I'm not sure how often those screens are sanitized and, being a food situation, this gives me the icks when I see them on the table. People can be - and are - nasty, y'all! Took the family out for dinner on Friday evening to get out of the hot house and enjoy the beautiful Long Beach Shoreline scenery. After we valet-parked, we decided to walk a little bit and then go to Yard House. I walked into a gang of servers and hosts bustling around a podium. I wanted a few minutes to get someone's attention so I could put my name on the wait list. No one could be bothered to help or even to direct me to where I should go. I finally walked to a different podium and asked, "Is this where I check in?" There were three people there. A guy and a girl chatting and a second girl on the phone. Dude didn't even bother to make eye contact with me before he turned and walked away. The first girl did the same thing. The second girl finished her call, helped to people who arrived after me with validation, and then took another call. I'm standing there the whole time, and I am hard to miss. Finally, I say in my sternest voice, but trying not to sound frustrated, "Is this where I check in for a table?" Now-- all of a sudden--she sees me and takes my information. But she doesn't explain the process. Namely, once they text you, you have to return and tell them you are there in order to actually get your table. I returned, thinking they'd just call me and say, "Your table is ready." That didn't happen. My family came back after we texted, but we waited and waited to be called until I finally got a text saying I had been dropped from the waitlist. WTF. Not a good first impression, and no discernible effort by the staff to provide even average customer service. That said, the food was tasty, and the portions were large. And our two servers were solid, and I tipped them well. Then again, I always tip well. It's a really cool location -- the patio overlooks the marina and passing ships, which gives the place a great vibe and atmosphere. This was my second time eating here, and I actually like the food better than the Yard House locations I'm used to in Orange County. The quality and flavors really stood out. That said, we were seated outside this time and the service was lacking. We had to walk up to the server multiple times just to get assistance, which took away from the experience. Yard House offers an eclectic menu offering both seafood and beef, providing lots of options. I had the refreshing and high protein Poke Salad which was fresh and delightful. The others checked out the Tortilla Soup (creamier and perhaps a bit too creamy) and the Shrimp Salad. My Poke Salad was satisfying but I think my male companion eating the Shrimp Salad could have eaten more. However, the calories are right on the menu! This may sound fuddy duddy, but stick to a pint and skip the lure of the half yard. It seems cool until you want to drink it. It's very tall. Also watch out for the "glug glug" point - once you're there, the beer is coming back for a fight if you don't tip the glass right. Today, me and my friend decided to hit Yard House in Long Beach for happy hour, and let me tell you, they were FREAKING BUSY! But even with how packed it was, the service and food were A1! He took our order and made sure we were good while everything was CRAZY busy. He was WORKING, okay! Once we moved over to the other side, Austin took over, and he was AWESOME as well! He made sure our food came out, kept checking on us, and made sure my friend's water stayed topped off the entire time. But what really stood out to me was that even though we had left Justin's section, he still personally came over and dropped off my cocktail. That right there is GREAT customer service! He didn't have to do that, but he still made sure I was taken care of. I also have to give credit to the food runners AND the bus boys because they were on it! Everybody was moving, helping each other, clearing tables, bringing food out, and keeping things running even though the place was PACKED. And I wish I could remember the young lady's name--she was Hispanic, had her hair in a ponytail with highlights, and she was AWESOME! She went out of her way to move our table for us, which we really appreciated. Hopefully management knows exactly who I'm talking about because she deserves her recognition too! I completely understand that pest control can be a nightmare and more so now with the heat and humidity. We have been a couple times and ignored the gnats and flies. Last night was not acceptable.
