Worst restaurant experience I've had. I eat out about three times a week, and this visit was disappointing from start to finish. It took forever for anyone to come over and take our order. The waitress didn't explain the menu item clearly, so I ended up ordering chicken tenders and fries, which wasn't what I had in mind. As soon as she brought our food, she made us close out the bill before I'd even had a chance to taste it. When I did, the chicken tasted stale and like it had been fried in oil used for fish. The fries were greasy. We could see that our waitress was still working, so I didn't understand why we had been asked to close out so early. We had to call her back over to explain that the food tasted bad. She told me that if I'd said something before tasting it, she could have taken it back. How would I have known there was a problem without tasting it? She took the food back, but said nothing could be removed from the bill because we had already closed out. I also ordered guacamole, and that was awful too. We finished our drinks and left. When we reached my car, we saw four rats running alongside the restaurant. The slow service, food, confusing billing, and what we saw outside made this an experience I won't repeat. I will never go back. read more

I rarely write reviews like this, especially about a restaurant I previously enjoyed, but this experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I feel like it needs to be shared. I used to live in the neighborhood and come to Long Beach pretty frequently. I specifically asked my fiancé to come to Gaucho Beach because I LOVE the Gaucho salad and was excited to have it again. We arrived around 11:40 a.m. on a Saturday and sat at the bar because we knew it would probably be busy. My fiancé and I are Black. I actually hesitated to include that because I don't believe every bad service experience is about race. But after sitting there for roughly 40 minutes and watching the stark difference between how we were treated and how multiple white patrons were treated, it became impossible not to question it. We had to proactively ask for menus. It took about 15 minutes to even get our drink order taken, and that only happened after I insisted that someone take our order. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink and my fiancé ordered a smoked Old Fashioned. His drink then sat there for another 5-10 minutes before it was finally smoked and handed across the bar. Still, we remained patient. We were smiling, talking and waiting to order the food we specifically came there to eat. I asked BOTH bartenders if we could order food. Both acknowledged me and nodded. Neither ever came back. Meanwhile, during the time we sat there, multiple white patrons arrived AFTER us and were immediately acknowledged, proactively given menus, served drinks and given the opportunity to order food. At one point, we intentionally stopped asking and waited to see whether someone would eventually notice that we still hadn't ordered. They didn't. So we finally asked for the check. When the bartender brought it, I directly told him that we actually wanted to stay and eat but were leaving because we had been ignored every time we tried to order food. His response? Nothing. No "I'm sorry." No explanation. No attempt to make it right. He didn't even acknowledge what I said. He simply moved on as though I hadn't spoken--which unfortunately felt like the perfect ending to the entire experience. I cannot tell you what was in anyone's heart or what motivated the difference in service. What I CAN say is what happened: two Black customers repeatedly had to ask for basic service while white customers arriving after us were proactively welcomed, handed menus and served. There is a difference between a restaurant being busy and watching the people around you receive service while you are repeatedly overlooked. We felt invisible and unwelcome. For somewhere I previously liked enough to specifically suggest for our Saturday outing, this was incredibly disappointing. I won't be returning. read more

The vibe and view at Gaucho Beach were awesome. It's a really cool spot right by the beach, and the atmosphere was definitely the best part of our experience. We ordered the shrimp ceviche tostada, empanadas, and shrimp taquitos. Unfortunately, we weren't really fans of the food. The ceviche especially threw me off because some bites of the shrimp had a slimy texture that didn't seem right. The empanadas and shrimp taquitos were okay, but nothing we'd go out of our way to order again. I'd definitely come back for the view, atmosphere, and some drinks, but the food just wasn't for us. Gaucho Beach is such a nice spot if you're looking for good food, drinks, and a beautiful beachside view! Diana was very helpful when it came to deciding what to order and gave us great service. We started with the shrimp taquitos, which were delicious and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the Entrana with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were really good, but the steak was just okay for me. It came out a little more cooked than I would have preferred, so that took away from it a bit. Of course, we had to enjoy a bottle of rose while taking in the view. Overall, Gaucho Beach has a great atmosphere and is a nice place to relax, have some good food and drinks, and enjoy the beach scenery. 07.05.2026 My last review was a long time ago. I stated and vowed that I would never come back due to the homeless problem that this restaurant encounters in its surrounding perimeter. This restaurant ramped up security for this very reason, crowd control, and professionalism. Late June and early July of this year (2026), I have been here 3 times! Surprisingly the three times I have been here was great! The experience I had watching the FIFA world cup soccer matches was awesome and memorable. Great vibe and great energy! I was rooting for Team Mexico and Team USA. "From my previous post, I had it all wrong." You feel the nice ambiance of the ocean breeze hitting your face while you dine and drink. The ambiance was tranquil especially where I was seated, outside patio by the inside bar. They had a Large LCD Screen for the watch party and Smaller LCD displays upstairs. The only thing I disliked and disagreed with is the cycling of patrons after the game. For example, if you watched a game at 11am and it finished at 1pm you as a paying patron must exit the restaurant get back in line again just to stay for the next game. I have never heard of this type of restaurant logistic ever! In basic terms, they practically kick you out and make you get back in line regardless of the window you came in. I guess to accommodate everyone that wants to watch the FIFA Soccer games, this must be done. I just never seen it done before! I figure Once I am in I am in. Overall had a great experience. Great ambiance with clean restrooms. Big shout out and Big Kudos to the Manager wearing the Gimenez Mexican Jersey and Harisson the security guard. They were nice, friendly, and treated my wife and I with courtesy and respect. Also, excellent job to Kamille our waitress. She took good care of us by always being attentive and helping. Give her a raise! If you plan to come here, I warn you... Parking is absolutely a nightmare. I guarantee you that you will start road raging looking for a spot to park in. Good place for a World Cup gathering. It has a nice beach harbor view and plenty of screens for watching sports. The food is good, but we had to wait a long time because it was so crowded. The Lobster Sandwich was okay, but my expectations were a bit higher for the actual lobster. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10. The Filet Mignon Sliders were good too, but the portion size was a bit too small. I'd rate those a 7 out of 10 as well. Overall, they are just a bit too busy right now because of the World Cup games. Do NOT get the $27 soft shell crab sandwich. The crab was burnt and so tiny. Nobody really liked their food out of 13 people. Fish and chips was the best thing but the fish inside of the batter didn't taste seasoned in any way shape or form. Servers were very kind and helpful, although many accommodations people asked for were wrong. We also only got ahold of our waitress a a few times within an hour. Not her fault, just seemed understaffed. Overall, I see the vision of this place, the ambiance is nice, (excluding the bathroom which was dirty and missing toilet paper), but like most LA folks we are tired of spending $45 on a below average meal just because it's near a pretty location. They could definitely put more effort into your recipes, hire more staff, and keep the bathrooms more clean. read more

It came with three huge pieces of fish. The batter was really tasty and I enjoyed the accompanying aioli but the fish itself could have used a little seasoning. Hubby had the Cuban sandwich and no complaints. This was very good. Tasty margarita with tajin season on the rim, a nice touch. Why the plastic cups tho? I had high hopes for this place, it's on the beach. Seemed to have a decent menu and the photos looked cute. I showed up and there is very limited parking for the area and it is paid parking, of course. when I walked in from the parking lot no one greeted me, and there was no area to check in. I wandered around for a while and noticed there was a hostess stand close to the beach side of the restaurant. I waited there for a while and no one was there or came up to me. I walked to the bar and waited almost another 5 minutes before I could get anyone's attention. Finally got to order a drink but kissed happy hour by 5 minutes which of course the wouldn't honor even though I was there about 15 minutes by this time wandering around looking for help. I asked the bartender about a table and he basically said, Sit anywhere. Grabbed a seat and waited over 5 more minutes to get a menu. Once we ordered food it was slow to come out. We ordered ceviche which came with a measly amount of chips. When we asked for more they said it would be an extra charge for the price the food was subpar, you'd be better going anywhere else besides here. Unless you're on the beach already and want decent overpriced food and drinks, then walk over,but expect crappy service. Don't even get me started on how gross the bathroom was. which of course you need a code to get in, but you can't get anyones attention to actually get the code. read more

I've been back to Gaucho Beach a couple times since my first review and although I'm updating my review to 4 stars for the food, there is still room for improvement. My friends and I do enjoy the vibe here, being right on the beach, outdoor, dog friendly and with old school jams playing. While there's usually a short wait, it's nice that Gaucho Cafe is next door so people can grab a seat, drink and/or snack while waiting. Didn't seem like the lobster roll recipe changed much since my last visit so I opted to try the new Soft Shell Crab Sandwich. The brioche bun was soft, the creamy coleslaw consisted of purple cabbage and added a nice texture with the fried soft shell crab. The fries were done just right too. I would actually get this again since there aren't many places that serve it. Hubby got the Chilaquiles with chicken and we were impressed with the quantity and quality! There was a good amount of grilled chicken breast, eggs and the bowl was loaded with chips that remained crispy in the flavorful red sauce throughout the meal! My friends tried the calamari, which was good and the lobster omelette. My friend liked the omelette but the lobster meat was pretty minced, making it a little difficult to tell if it was really lobster in there. The service was a little hit or miss. We had to track down our server a few times. My hubby was still waiting for his beer when our food came out. Oh, they also don't have hot sauce?! They only have house made chimichurri, which isn't bad but it's not that spicy and doesn't give the heat that any hot sauce does. I'm sure I'm not the only person that asks for Cholula or Tapatío. We came in on a Tuesday night and it was not busy, but it took about 45 minutes for our food to be brought out. We got the new filet mignon sliders which were very tasty and good flavor, would recommend these! I swapped out the fries for mashed potatoes, but the mashed potatoes were a bit bland for me. Buttery but otherwise did not taste seasoned. The skirt steak sandwich had a nice charred taste and was also tasty and popular, but a bit dry. Wish it came with some chimichurri on the side! Fries were fine, unfortunately cold and not fresh. Salad on the side was served soggy. My fiancé enjoyed his mezcal margarita! Went to Gaucho Beach for their advertised oldies & funk brunch, and honestly the best thing they have going is the beachfront location and people watching. We were expecting a fun mix of oldies and funk music, but after maybe five oldies songs it basically turned into a Michael Jackson playlist for the rest of brunch. Food-wise: Steak & eggs: steak was good, but the eggs were rubbery and the potatoes lacked flavor. Chilaquiles: tried both the green and red salsa. The green was good, but the red tasted more like regular tomato sauce. Chicken & waffles: was surprised that it was chicken strips but was even more surprised that they tasted good, but the waffles were very dense, although they did have a nice sweetness to them. The drinks were good and the staff was great, which definitely helped the experience. Overall, more of a spot for the view and vibes than the food. read more

He gave the wrong beer the second time around and we let him know and he was rude about it and disagreed. We all got the same beer and his beer color was a lot different and tasted like another beer. So we showed him and he just grabbed the beer cup and came back a little while later with the correct beer and didn't say anything but just handed it to us. Overpriced, and unfortunately the service didn't make up for it. I understand you're paying for the ambiance and the space, but when cocktails are around $18-$22 each, I expect the overall experience to match. We ordered ceviche and cocktails and weren't even given napkins or side plates. Our server recommended another ceviche, so we figured okay, why not? We were originally going to get the shrimp but went with her recommendation instead, and unfortunately it wasn't good. It honestly tasted like beet juice. The tamarindo cocktail was also very meh and tasted surprisingly cheap for the price. I would've appreciated our server checking back in after bringing the drinks or asking how everything was, especially since we barely touched some of it. Instead, I had to ask for napkins and side plates myself. What made the service even more frustrating was that it wasn't busy. At one point, even the people around us seemed to be looking around trying to find a server, so it definitely wasn't just us. We ended up leaving shortly after because there really wasn't much keeping us there. The ambiance is beautiful, but when the quality of the food, drinks, and service doesn't match the price point, it kind of defeats the purpose of paying a premium for the experience. read more

Bianca was amazing and had such great energy. drinks were delicious, i got the strawberry basil margarita & my partner got pineapple with buchanas. for entree, i ordered the lomo saltado & he got the ribeye. delicious! i appreciated Bianca giving me the heads up that it wasnt a traditional lomo but ordered it anyways and it was good. the ribeye was nice and tender as well. the only thing is i wish the fries we ordered as apps came with garlic aioli, but thats just me being picky. overall we had a great time with our server & the food and drinks were good! will be back again soon. read more

We booked a 1 PM Sunday reservation through their Toast app, only to arrive and be told they don't take reservations on weekends. If that's the case, why leave the option available? Before all that waited about ten minutes for the hostess to show up, and when she finally did, she delivered the news with zero apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. No "sorry about that," no "I'll let my manager know so this doesn't happen again," not even an estimated wait time. We had to pull every next step out of her. Being from Long Beach but moving away and seeing all the changes that has taken place throughout the city is quite amazing. Long Beach was not what it's like today. Now it's a place where there's so many things are happening and restaurants and shops are scattered everywhere. Cluster of area are trendy, blocks are full of amazing restaurants, massive new apartments complex replacing empty lots all through downtown. And of course this place. I remember when it was just an empty spot where it's just the beach, the park and parking lot. Now it's a pretty cool beachfront restaurant and bar right on the sand and bike path. It's been so long since I left that I'm not quite sure how long this place has been here. I've seen it often when visiting walking the path or meeting friends for dinner down the street. Plus seeing post about this place and hearing from friends, it was finally something that needed to be done. Friday afternoon, just as happy hour was happening we popped in for drinks. Nothing major just something to have while checking it out. Checked in with the hostess which we mentioned that we wanted drinks and not brunch. She mentioned that the bar area was full but followed her anyways which they did have seat available. There were plenty of open tables but not sure if we were able to have one if we were just having drinks. She never offered it to us. Anyways, bar seating was fine. It wraps around. Menu for happy hour was decent, a good amount of drinks as well as food items. We had to get someone's attention so we could order. Normally you would get acknowledged when seated at the bar but it didn't seemed like they even noticed us. Finally someone, placed our order for some drinks and then some food. Drinks, beer on tap and one of the red sangria on happy hour. Beer, you can't go wrong with it. Sangria's, it was nice and refreshing. Had a few fruit chunks mixed in. Food, we shared an order of the mussels. They brought out the meal but no extra plates for the shells. Also, no utensils which we had to ask someone sitting across from us to pass some down that was sitting there. And shells were placed onto a napkin. Anyways, the mussels were quite nice. They were pretty small in sizes but the broth was very flavorful. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful. Downstairs has the bar with some nice table seating looking out to the bike path and beach. There's also an upstairs which we didn't get to check out. Overall, the place is quite beautiful. Service was a little slow until we got someone's attention. Drinks were good and the mussels were tasty. There's a small parking lot out back but just to the side , a couple minutes walk is a bigger lot. read more
