It's summer, so one of my favorite things to do is eat outside at a good restaurant with good food and a great view! All three pertain here. Sit on the patio. The view is amazing and it's very comfortable with the umbrellas to provide shade & sun. Since I love CFS for breakfast and only order it when I go out, it's a sure treat especially when it's cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the fish & chips which were plentiful!! They were a little too battered for my taste, but the fish was amazing. The most beautiful square "biscuit" came with my order which was also delicious and complimented the gravy and CFS well. We came here around noon and they kept the guests seated, well fed and our server was exceptionally pleasant. After that, it was another 30 minutes before our waitress returned to take our food order. What made it more frustrating was seeing multiple servers standing around or walking past us without acknowledging that we were still holding menus and hadn't ordered yet. A simple check-in would've gone a long way. It was a beautiful day, and we opted for patio seating, which had a great vibe -- but the sun was beating down on us and the long wait made it less enjoyable. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. I ordered The Mess with a side of avocado. I actually enjoyed it -- chopped ham, crispy bacon, hash browns, and onions all came together nicely. My husband ordered the country chicken fried steak with extra gravy. Unfortunately, the gravy was overly salty with a strong rosemary aftertaste that overpowered the dish. Drinks were solid. Schooner or Later is a waterfront breakfast and lunch joint in Long Beach. It was an overcast afternoon, but the sun kept popping through so we decided to sit out on the patio. The view and fresh air were great. The patio is a good size and there are probably a dozen or so tables. There are only a few tables that are permanently covered and in the shade. They do have umbrellas for the tables, but they were not out when we visited. They also have heat lamps for when it is cold outside. There is plenty of parking only a few steps away from front of the restaurant. I decided to go outside of the box and ordered "The Mess". This is a blend of chopped ham, bell peppers, onion, hash browns, eggs, and cheddar cheese. It is $18.95 for a half size portion, and only $21.70 for the full size portion, so it's silly to not pay a few extra dollars and take any leftovers home. I ate about half of it, and it was pretty good as-is, but it was missing a little something. I had the rest at home and added sour cream which made it way better. I would definitely recommend adding sour cream, avocado, or chili which are optional add-ons at the restaurant. It also comes with two slices of sourdough toast, and there are several flavors of packaged jelly on the table. She had the Cinnamon Roll French Toast ($16.75), and added a side of scrambled eggs and sausage ($8.95). She said it was good, and the portion size is pretty generous. The biggest downside was the wait time, we were quoted a much longer wait than what it actually ended up being, and bar seating wasn't offered to us until we noticed other guests being seated there. That part was a little frustrating and could definitely be handled better. That said, once we were seated, everything turned around. The food was fantastic, flavorful, well prepared, and absolutely worth it. Our server was also amazing, attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well taken care of. Overall, this place has great food and service, but the host stand could use more training. Being more welcoming and giving more accurate wait times would make the experience much smoother. Everything- berries nuts, are extra $2 to $3.95 . I ordered a side of turkey sausage. $8.95 . It was literally 3 super thin & tiny slices of what tasted like Jimmy Dean sausage. It has been a long time since I've been here and finally my daughter and I got here on Mother's Day 2025 at 7:15 am and the place already had several tables filled and folks waiting. My Everything bagel was surprisingly light, the lox super fresh and with the perfect amount complimented with capers and cream cheese. My daughter got an omelet (forget which one) but had some avocado slices on top and she loved it. She was also duly impressed by the side of fresh fruit - stawberries! She detests the sides of grapes and watermelon! The huge biscuit was wonderful. She took most of that home, munching it throughout the day. The breakfast menu on one side; lunch on the other. This place is located on the marina between Seal Beach and Long Beach. Ample free parking (at least in the am) and the Seal Beach Yacht club is next door. Bathrooms are aplenty and clean. Service was good with the manager, possibly owner coming by to check a few times if all was well. They also have liquor! Enjoy. There's a reason the place has been here since 1985! We were there around noon on a Saturday so for a group of 6, we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. They had a very nice area of benches to sit while we waited, and it didn't feel long at all. We loved that both breakfast and lunch are served all day - our group was able to mix and match with what we were all feeling like, and everyone loved their food! In general the portion sizes were really big (unless you are activtely ordereing a small meal, which is to be expected), so it is quite decently priced considering how much food they give you. When multiple of us ordered mimosas, our waitress let us know we could get them cheaper by ordering a whole bottle of champaign and a cup of orange juice - which worked out great! If it's not for the big sign along Marina Drive, you would not know this place is even there. It looks like the original dining area inside is quite small, but with there outdoor it dog friendly adds quite a bit more of seating to accommodate the large crowds. Even with a large capacity, we still had a twenty minute wait which actually was not that bad because they take your phone number to text you when your table is ready, so while you're waiting, you can admire the beautiful yacht's asking the docks of the marina. As we got seated outside our table had no umbrella so it was actually hot under the sun, but when we notified then, they accommodated us with an umbrella in a speedy manner and made our breakfast very comfortable dining in the marina. For some reason, it made me think of Gilligan's Island. IYKYK. As for our food I went with the chicken fried steak breakfast and my wife went with the Pork chop country breakfast. The CFS was ok to me. They used a different style of batter which made it crispy but it was like eating a beer batteries Steak. It was just different. The sausage gravy was nice and thick but something in my meal was over salted, but I still finished it any way. My wife said the Pork chop was a bit tough and dry, but still had good flavor. I would probably come back because the service was good, the food decent, but their prices were on the high end. Average entree started at about eighteen dollars and up. Hadn't been here in years but great to see the Service has not dropped off. A lot busier than I remember but we'll worth the wait. My Crab Omelet had a good amount of Cran in every bite and very well flavored. The Avocado and Hollandaise Sauce made for a great bite. I sat at the bar where the cooks prepare the food right in front of you, and unfortunately what I saw was really concerning. None of the cooks were wearing gloves, and they were handling multiple ingredients with their bare hands--cheese, lettuce, and avocados--without washing their hands between items. I have an avocado allergy, so watching that level of cross-contamination made me very uncomfortable. Food allergies are serious, and restaurants should take better precautions. The food itself was mediocre, and after seeing the food handling practices I couldn't enjoy the meal. After driving such a long distance to try this place, it was a big disappointment.
