Often a friend and I go on a quest for a great burger, usually based on a tip or word of mouth. Crack does indeed have a great burger. For our first visit we just went with the Dirty Burger which was awesome. If you want a more traditional burger with lettuce and tomato be sure to ask which one that is, the guys running this place will go out of their way to please you, they are great. I really liked the laid back and relaxing vibe of the outside patio over looking the golf course. The burger is cooked outside on a grill right in front of you. You are free to talk to the cook while he does his thing. The whole setup is kind of like a home style grill party. The burger features a very tasty beef patty, possibly a lean chuck, but plenty juicy without being messy. The patty extends beyond the bun and is not a paper thin massacre like other smash style burgers. While I'm a fan of a perfectly cooked thick burger, this burger passed the test of taste, texture and size. The bun was decent, and held up well through the entire devouring process. Went to Long Beach on a nice Sunday afternoon. Was looking for a unique place to eat in the area. The one that stuck out is Crack! It's located at the Golf Course in a nice and secluded area with a balcony for dogs if you got one. They had full pictures of their entire menu, we ended up getting their Lovers special, split of the top two burgers in half: one with a bacon jam and one more of a classic bacon cheese lettuce style. They made it on a charbroiled grill right next to us. Got sides of pineapple cole slaw and chicken bean soup. Everything was quality and fresh, better than manybof the other options nearby that I've already eaten out at. For a good burger joint and a nice place to relax for a bit, try out Crack! They'll ask you if you want a side but they're actually $3 each so be mindful of that. They also come in a small plastic almost Costco size sample cup, wish the portions were a bit bigger since it's an additional add to the meal. They specialize in the bacon jam burgers, they make each burger on the outdoor grill so it takes longer for them to make. For the price point of $15-$16 per burger, I would've expected it to be much larger in size. I've been going around town looking for the best burgers. Crack is located right off the golf course and you make your order at the small restaurant at the pro shop. I ordered the Ortega and the Bacon Jam. I went to the patio to chill at the tables and look at the golf course while they go my burgers going on the flat top. I got my food in less than 10 minutes. My coworker turned heads at work today when he said he wanted a Crack Burger, so we decided to stop by for lunch on a weekday. This place serves really amazing smash burgers that were incredibly delicious. Location: This green-and-white burger stop is located right between the golf courses at Bixby Village. It does not have large signage and is independently owned. Parking: Free parking is available in the lot next to the restaurant. The lot is a bit uneven and bumpy in some areas. Service: The staff were very friendly to our group, especially when we walked in looking a bit confused because of the lack of signage outside. They explained the menu, gave recommendations, and made our food right away. We got to enjoy the nice patio view of the golf course, with the smell of patties searing on the grill wafting through the air. Food: Amazing! We tried three burgers as a combo: The Dirty, Bacon Jam, and Ortega. Each burger was cooked outside on their patio grill overlooking the golf course and came out super juicy and flavorful. The Bacon Jam was a fan favorite. The lettuce paired really well with the smash burger and sauces. We also tried the white bean chili and macaroni salad. While those were good, the burgers were definitely the main highlight. They also have excellent root beer on tap, poured into chilled glasses. It was a cool place right up, until the end. The person I'm assuming is the owner actually asked us to wait before placing our order because he was slammed. Understandable. So then, another guy took our order and also cooked the food. When we ordered, we didn't get any drinks, but he told us we could help ourselves to the fridge. I'm assuming because they were older, the soda can we had actually still had a Halloween ad on it and were in the month of December. We ended up not drinking anything but still had the can with us and when were ready to pay and leave. At checkout, the owner pointed out that we had a can. The guy ringing us up just stood there next to us without saying anything, so I tried to explain the situation. Unfortunately, the owner seemed to assume we were trying to steal and had already processed it, and he wasn't really listening as I was explaining what happened. The food itself was good, above average. I can see why they don't serve fries, since they'd probably take away from the burger experience. I recommend getting sliders so you can enjoy and separate the savory and sweet sauces. But it wasn't worth the price. Overall, not terrible, but that interaction left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't be going back. I've never felt that embarrassed, especially with him not hearing me out and just clicking away on the tablet. Felt super inferior and stupid. Crack Burger in Long Beach is the definition of a neighborhood gem, and after coming here 4 times now I can confidently say it's a consistent 5 star experience. A huge part of that is the owner Dave. Straight up stand up guy. He genuinely treats people with kindness and it shows every single visit. The first time I came with my girl he gave us root beer floats on the house. The second time he noticed my girl was cold and brought her a blanket plus hooked us up with some white bean chili also on the house. When I came with my dad Dave blessed us with a free brownies, and same thing when I came with my friend. That's not normal customer service anymore that's real hospitality. 10/10 on service every time and shoutout to Dave for always showing love to the people he's serving. The spot itself is super chill and laid back right on the golf course. You can eat inside but the patio is where it's at. Sitting outside watching the greens while you eat is such a vibe especially on a nice day. Now the food. You honestly can't go wrong with any burger here. I've had a few different ones and they've all been really good, it just depends on what you're in the mood for. Today I went with the Ortega and it hit the spot. I paired it with the potato salad and the white bean chili. Both were good, but that white bean chili is GREAT especially when it's cold out. Add a lager with it and it's the perfect afternoon meal. Hi All,' The Hubbie and I tried another burger place from our Long Beach Burger Passport. Today, we went to Crack in Long Beach. It's located at the Bixby Village Golf Course. Those darn golfers always seem to keep the best burgers a secret. But, no more. The Hubs and I both had the recommended Bacon Jam Burger. OOO La La! The bacon jam had a hint of sweet, caramelized onions and bacon, with cheese and a generous slab of beefsteak tomato to make this burger complete. They cook it up for you on an outdoor BBQ on the deck overlooking the fairways. They close at 6pm on Sundays, so we were just in time for a picturesque sunset as we finished our meal. The service was fast and friendly. This is a perfectly no frills dining experience which golfers typically like. The only downside I can mention is that they do not offer french fries. Too bad because as I ate the Bacon Jam Burger, I couldn't help but imagine, steak fries covered in bacon jam, cheese and pico de gallo for "golfer's nachos." But that's just me. Unfortunately I was charged a 23% service fee for using my credit card yesterday, which is totally illegal (3-4%) is standard & anything over that in California is illegal. There's neither a sign that I could see posted, nor even a heads up before the owner put my card in his so called "expensive" machine. He then told me to push one of the tip buttons & then Go (very loudly & in front of other customers) Of course my response was "No button" & I was very happy to Go. The bill was $26 if I paid cash, but when I decided to use my credit card, it became $32 (for a burger, a corn on the cob & a canned drink) which is a bit steep on its own, let alone being charged the $6 fee for the use of a credit card. I later brought this whole experience up to the owner via a private forum, & his responses were defensive, rude & crude ( no real surprise) Had he handled it professionally/correctly by simply apologizing & offering to return the exorbitant fee he charged me, I would have probably responded to this whole situation a bit differently. Besides sharing my experience here with the public, I will be taking further steps to make sure the necessary people know about this unacceptable business practice. *New addition to my first post as I just saw the angry obnoxious rant from the owner. In Long Beach for a festival and was a bit malnourished after day 1 so we were craving some hearty burgers. Did some quick research and found that Crack was one of the top burger choices. Arrived in the middle of the suburbs at a golf course to find a small burger shop inside. They have indoor and outdoors seating viewing the golf course and they grill on a flattop outside. Had to try their bacon jam since it was what they were known for and was not disappointed in the end. I also ordered a side of potato salad that was quite nice and refreshing to contrast the burger. This simple, little burger place is located in the clubhouse at Bixby Village golf course and the experience is like attending a secret, gourmet backyard barbecue. I also grabbed a bag of chips and sat out on the patio. The centerpiece of every table is a roll of paper towels which you'll likely need as the burgers can be messy. As I sat down, a young woman came out and grilled my burger and in a short time it was prepared and delivered to my table on a paper plate along with an enormous, frosty-cold glass of the most amazing root beer I've ever had. As you can imagine, the juicy burger, covered in melted cheese, had a smokey flavor and was dressed with lettuce, tomato, mustard & mayo, and a stunningly delicious bacon jam. The seasoning on the burger also added to the flavor. As I finished, the owner, a cool and funny fellow, offered a cookie on the house. The strawberry-chocolate chip cookie was a true taste treat. I really felt welcomed in that casual, "like family" sort of way. It's the sort of place you leave wanting to come back again as soon as possible. Parking is available in their lot or on the street. He handles taking orders, mingling with customers, and finishing the plating once his master cook (can't remember his name) finishes cooking on the grill. It's a simple menu of burgers with different toppings cooked to perfection. There's patio seating with a view of the golf course and some indoor seating. Order at the register and pay when you're done. My wife and I both had the "Dirty Girl Salad" which was a smash burger patty topped with cheddar, chipotle mayo, and housemade mind blowing bacon jam served over a seriously gourmet salad. I was expecting a burger plopped down on a pile of iceberg lettuce and was amazed what a great salad it was. Dan was chopping up everything to order. Blend of lettuces, tomatoes, bell peppers, sundried strawberries, and pickles. After taking a bite I was completely blown away how good this burger was. The bacon jam elevated this burger to a whole new level. Loved it! Besides a few burgers I noticed the instragram account has different daily creations. The day we went he said he was making jalapeno popper burgers. There's also a rotating daily selection of sides. He let us sample his "apple pie baked beans" which sounded odd yet were magical. I finally ventured out to Crack this week. Since the weather was nice, I opted to dine on the patio. It became chilly but the view of golfers playing was worthwhile. I ordered The Dirty and enjoyed it. The combination of bacon jam - cheddar- and patty were nice. The patty was properly seasoned and the chipotle mayo offered a slight heat. The food is made to order - the chef is passionate about the food. I tried the corn salad - appropriately portioned and different from the conventional idea of having fries. The corn salad is a combination of cilantro, bell peppers, dried cranberry, and red onion in champagne dressing. There's a light sweetness from the cranberries and dressing, which balanced the crunchiness and natural sugars from the veggies. I am always in search for who makes the best Smashburger, and although the burger was yummy, I was more compelled to try it because of the bacon jam, which was very tasty however, for me, it was the chicken chili that was the star of the show. The only disappointing thing about the chilli is that it wasn't enough. I can definitely eat a bowl of that chicken chili, and it would be amazing if they served cornbread to go with it, but I know it's not that type of establishment. Nevertheless, going back to the burger, my comparison is always the Smashburger from Win-Dow in Long Beach, if you know you know. So if you are looking for a slightly bigger and thicker Smashburger than this is your place, although they don't add pickles to it, I believe it could've helped to add more salt and acid to the burger. However they have a few different burger options. A lady sitting next to me, said the Ortega burger is her favorite. Unlike other places I have grown accustomed to a slightly thinner, Smashburger, but this one was thick and you definitely don't need a double double this will do the job, I couldn't even finish my burger because how big it was. I also like the touch of the grill print of the letter C on the brioche bun, which was very tasty, the bacon jam was definitely yummy. And the view was absolutely amazing. It felt like I was in another place, the sun was beginning to set, and the breeze was coming in, the trees were whistling, and it definitely made it the optimal environment to forget about my work week.
