I was in Seal Beach for an afternoon concert and was looking for a place to eat nearby afterward and found this place, a little, unassuming burger joint off a small golf course. The place looks like someone's house, and the owner and assistant cook run burgers and buns to the back porch patio grill from the small kitchen and counter. My table mate and I shared shrimp tacos and tuna salad sandwich on sour dough with a side of Mac and cheese. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, plump and juicy, with a crisp snap in each bite. The tuna salad had a nice blend of sauce and celery, with a hint of mustard. But the havarti and pimento Mac n cheese, quite the definition of gourmet comfort food. And chef Dave gave us samples of the white bean chili and pineapple cole slaw, which were amazing. I'll definitely come back for full servings of those and a burger. Chef Dave was very hospitable and the view of the quaint golfing green from the open patio was pleasant and calming. My husband was starving after his appointment at the VA hospital and decided to eat here which was right around the corner. The place is on a golf course so it wasn't very hard to find. Off first glance, it kinda looked like a regular sandwich shop. The owner (I think he was the owner)) came out and greeted us, we didn't know what to really get so he gave us some suggestions. I ended up getting the "Bacon Jam", my husband got "The Dirty" and my dad got "The Dirty" but he asked for no bread. We decided to eat outside as the weather was really nice. This was the 1st time trying a Smash Burger and I LOVED IT! That patty was so thin and crispy yet was so juicy and packed with flavor. And the bacon jam kicked it up a notch: sweet and savory perfection! Not pictured are the sides we ordered: I got their slaw and my husband got the apple baked beans. The coleslaw was really good, but the apple baked beans was something out of this world! The place is a little run down but the smash burgers are amazing. The meat is very well seasoned and the perfect thickness for a smash burger; not too thin and not too thick. Each burger was topped with a perfectly toasted brioche bun and melted cheese, then cut in half for easy eating. Only complaint is that the price point is a little high since you don't get any fries or sides. We paid $15 for the Dirty Burger, brioche bun, meat, cheddar cheese, bacon jam, chipotle mayo and $12 for the 3-Year-Old Burger which is just meat, cheddar cheese, and the brioche bun. Yelp reviews once again didn't disappoint! We had some time last Sunday after getting off the cruise ship and catching our flight, so I hoped onto Yelp to look for a good place to grab lunch. Up came this recommendation for a place called "Crack" - now who couldn't stop and read the reviews with a name like that? All these 5 star reviews on the food and the customer service, made it a must try! As mentioned, we had been on a cruise for 2 weeks and the famous smash burgers there were severely lacking - so the guys were really craving a great smash. Nestled in the middle of a golf course, the restaurant is in a cute building with ample free parking. Upon entering, we see a sign that states that they don't do to go orders due to being able to ensure their quality. Totally respect that. The owner was sitting inside and described their burgers to us and explained some specials not on the menu (donut dirty) and his creamed corn. We settled on a donut dirty, a couple regular dirtys, and the protein tacos with shrimp for mains. Potato salad, rice-a-roni salad, and white bean chili (had forgotten about the creamed corn). Grabbed our drinks and went and sat down outside next to a Blackstone. A few minutes later the cook comes out with our meat and cooks them right there! They smelt so great. Our sides get brought out and we begin to eat. O...M...G... the potato salad HAS to be the best potato salad that any of us had ever had. I mean - I would easily have paid $50 for that recipe (I'm currently searching for one that I think is similar). Made with red potatoes, the flavor is incredible! So much that we had to go order extra sides of it. The Rice-a-roni salad (cold) is made with curry and was a disappointment. I didn't feel it had any true flavor to it. I was hoping for some sweetness to counter the curry flavor but it was all just bland. My friend tried it and she agreed. After about 4 bites, we tossed it, especially when we had this amazing potato salad to eat! The white bean chili was tasty and the cup size was perfect. It had great flavor and hit the spot. No one else had some as they aren't legume fans but I finished it. As we're waiting for our burgers, the owner brings us the creamed corn to sample. Oh man! That was a total hit for the table so we went and ordered two more sides of that too! It wasn't super rich like a Rudy's creamed corn it was thinner in the liquid/sauce but once again, the flavors! Had some red and green peppers in it. If it's a special - make sure you get it! We haven't even gotten to the burgers yet! Our burgers came and they were just as good as the sides were - actually better! The burgers come with this bacon jam on it. Oy vey!! Hubs stated that the combination of the bacon jam and chipotle mayo with the Krispy Kreme donut took it up a bazillion notches! He inhaled the thing. My regular dirty was so good and rich (and filling) that I was only able to eat half of it - and then passed the other half to the hubs. Everyone was making all kinds of joyous noises eating our food. Now the big surprise of the show was the protein tacos. They came out and asked if she wanted sour cream and/or avocado on them. The options for protein that day were shrimp or ahi tuna and she opted for the shrimp. These tacos had to the very best tacos we've ever tried before! The flavor and juices of the shrimp and taco were to die for!!! We love good hole-in-the-wall places and Crack did not disappoint!! What a find! In this current trend of paper thin smash burgers this burger goes against the flat dry crunchy trend and keeps it real...real juicy! Located at the edge of bixby golf course I was a bit confused about where it was. I walked towards the green shack hoping that no can get some direction but the crack was inside. A few fellas were out there and I grew envious of the frosted tall glasses of beer delivered to them as sipped on my water. There was a hint sweetness from the jam, the well seasoned outer crust offered a nice finish to get perfect medium rare center , the texture of the burger was a nice contrast to the melted cheese, and to round it all off the hatch chili added the perfect depth. I did wish I had a cold beer to wash it down with, but that's for next time The sides were excellent turkey chili was amazing and the lightness of the coleslaw was like a reset button for every bite to be enjoyed. The hype is real! These burgers are amazing and definitely worth trying and crossing off your bucket list. However, the revolving sides menu is weird and can be frustrating. The place is basic on the interior and lowkey a hole in the wall which is surprising for a golf course eatery but that doesn't take away from the flavor. The burger is definitely crack. My friends and I all agreed that it was a great burger. However we are not sure we will be back because of the hours, the okay amount of parking in the lot, the limited and revolving menu and the lackluster interior. They still get a 4 star because this would be a uber eats type of restaurant because the food is great and if you don't have to step foot in there, then it would be a 5 start. Service was okay. I've had bacon jam on regular burgers but never on a smash burger so that was new to me. Let's get to the good stuff: burger had fresh ingredients, meat was seasoned well but I do wish the patties were smashed a bit thinner. I also could have gone with a bit less bacon jam as it almost overpowered the burger. I think for me, I like a traditional smash burger: patties smashed thinner than a piece of paper, grilled onions, american cheese and sauce. Oh yeah, gotta be on a martins potato to roll too. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all types of burgers but this one just wasn't in my wheelhouse. Shoutout to the service though. The burger has an interesting flavor, bacon jam was interesting! but it does take a while to cook, esp if there are a lot of orders and the burger and buns all become a disintegrating mess towards the end. The owner seems quite congenial if you fit a certain look or maybe if you're a regular. He was very brusque with us coming in for the first time - asked us how we heard about the place but almost sounded suspicious of why we would stop by, so we didn't feel very welcome, but I suppose it could've been a stressful day.
