My husband wanted a burger on the way home from the mall so I went to Yelp to search for a local spot. Lone and behold "Crack" is on the results. We had no idea the restaurant was on the actual golf course. But luckily my husband is an avid golfer so it was fine. As we went in to order it was diner style with inside and outside seating. Ordered the "dirty burger" they were out of macaroni salad so ordered old slaw. No fries. Oh and no Togo orders. My husband said the burger was better than the Window. He said 5/5 stars. Hence that was my choice of burger. They are all smash burgers with different toppings. The bacon jam burger was delicious and was very filling and perfect jam to bun to meat ratio. They have different sides dependent on the week or day so they state on the monitor when you come in to ask about the sides available. Very humble and simple service. Had the absolute worst experience here. Incredibly disorganized - waited 45 minutes for a burger while watching people who ordered after us get their food first. Then, after we finally left, someone chased us down in the parking lot claiming we hadn't paid... even though you literally pay when you order. They even came back again demanding proof of payment. The hubby and I were out on a Sunday cruise and I wanted to eat somewhere different than our usual spots. I yelped burgers and CRACK was the first place to pop up. I'm glad there were pictures of this place. I may have driven past it, if not. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by a friendly and helpful guy. It's a pretty laid back place. I don't know what you would call it...the golf clubhouse?? Once we found a place to sit, the same person who greeted us came and took our order. Turns out, he's the owner and a pretty chill guy. This is my second time here, and I brought a friend along. The burgers are just as juicy as before, and the special sauce is super unique and addictive. The handmade sides, made with the owner's special touch, are really creative and make the burger even better. The sides change often, so it's always fun to see what's new. My friend loved it too and said if it was a bit cheaper, they'd definitely want to grab another burger. The owner and staff are awesome, and I can't wait to come back. We happened to find this hidden gem thanks to Yelp! If you like smash burgers this is the place! The owner was so cool & made you feel like you were sitting in your back yard BBQ! We chose to sit on the patio because there was a lovely breeze and shaded area. We ordered the salad with Smashburger. He gave us a sample of his white bean chili, it was amazing. Topped off by a free mini root beer with vanilla bean ice cream float so delightful! Everything was spectacular, I can't believe there was not a line out the door. You know what? Crack makes good burgers. Situated inside Bixby Village Gold Course, my colleagues and I drove 15 minutes from work to eat some good artisan burgers. The restaurant has a big parking lot, and the place was empty when we arrived. The manager or the owner took our orders with a super friendly attitude. The food came out 10 minutes later, and it was actually really, really good. But with the price I paid for the burger and a can of soda, which came out to $21, I wish it came with fries. This is a great place for a bite to eat! They are known for their burgers but don't sleep on the white bean chicken chili or the corn salad! They don't have fries so these are are sides that you can get with your burger and they are soooo good! He also has a coleslaw that's wonderfully refreshing. After seeing many MANY rave reviews on social media I added this place to my "try" list a while back. My family decided to check it out last week to see what the hype was about. I have one word: underwhelmed. We went in with high hopes. The burger was ok, not bad by any means, but not spectacular or out of this world as people were making it seem. All 4 of us shared the same sentiment. They were steep too, costing $14 each with NO side included. Unfortunately, this burger just wasn't it for us. Yesterday, my husband, son, and I stopped by Crack for lunch. We ordered the Dirty Burger and the Bacon Jam Burger, along with sides of white bean chicken chili and red cabbage, and were sold after the first bite. Hands down, these are the best burgers we've had in Long Beach! The bacon jam was absolutely delicious. We chose to sit on the patio, which had plenty of space and offered a lovely view of the golf course--a perfect outdoor setting for a Saturday lunch. The service was friendly and welcoming, and even the other customers added to the positive vibe. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying the Ortega Burger next time. This place knows burgers. These are, without a doubt, the best burgers I've ever had. I've been there twice in two weeks now and consistently outstanding, juicy, flavorful burgers. My personal favorite is the bacon jam burger. My son loves the Ortega chili burger. I've only tried the potato salad side. Crazy delish, with crunchy veggies as well. My sister hates mayo and yet loved the potato salad. My boys ordered the apple pie baked beans - the apple pie is on the bottom. They and their friend loved it as well. Overall, as far as the food goes, the only complaint my sons and their friend had: no fries. I'm guessing the gentleman who was at the counter both times I went is the owner. Explained all and insists on sharing the cookies (did not charge for them). I'm not a dessert-at-lunch kind of person, but damn! Even the cookies are delish. While not overly friendly and talkative, he definitely takes care of his customers. It kind of feels like you're at someone's home, enjoying a nice barbecue. They are l it really grilling the burgers out on the deck!!! Atmosphere is quiet, with a lovely view of the golf course from the deck. You also have the option of eating inside at near the bar, where they have a television for those sports fans. I've not yet dined there, but we've seen quite a few guests enjoying a conversation with the bar tender. Parking is ample, both on the street and in the lot. I have no idea why this place is so highly rated - the food was low-mediocre at best, it was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, and the guy that runs the place is an ignorant loud mouth. The bread was a basic store-bought bun, probably from Target or Ralphs right up the street, the kind you would get at a family BBQ at a neighborhood birthday party when you were a kid. THE BEST BURGER I'VE EVER HAD! I tried to visit this highly rated hidden gem about a year ago, but sadly was unable to partake due to windy conditions (the owner shared that he could not operate the outdoor grill in super windy conditions). Well, my redemption day came yesterday! I was super excited to see that the restaurant was open and excitedly asked the owner to choose my adventure for me! He advised that for my first time, the Bacon Jam burger was the way to go. In terms of sides, he gave me mini portions of 3 sides to try: White Bean Chili, Crispy Potato Salad, and Cole Slaw. ALL SIDES WERE DIVINE! The crispy potato salad was hearty, with enjoyable crisped potato pieces creating a pleasing texture and flavor. The Coleslaw was light, not overly "mayo-y" with a vinegary dressing (the celery seasoning is pretty pronounced, which I love). The white bean chilli tasted like a warm hug. Simple and delicious. The Bacon Jam is AMAZING! It's a simple smashburger that packs a punch in flavor. Perfectly ripened tomato, shredded lettuce, and cheddar complement this perfectly seasoned patty. This was truly one of those meals where you start to feel sad when it's all over. No pics from my trip- first thing on my mind when the food arrived was digging in. But, the pics others have shared are accurate! LOL I dined by myself and opted to eat inside- there are about 4 small tables inside, but they also have outdoor patio seating available. Restaurant is clean, and a fine place to grab a quick bite with a friend or two. This would not be a good place for large groups.
