The Win-Dow Burgers My coworker Kat told me I needed to try Win-Dow because, in her words, they have the best smash burgers. After an appointment a couple miles away, I made the drive over, and I am glad I listened to Kat. First of all, parking gets a star by itself. The lot is not that big, but with the amount of people coming in and out, it worked surprisingly well. I got a spot right away and it seemed like everybody else was able to do the same. No long wait, no circling around, no hassle. Then I got in line to order. The setup is cool. It is like they open up the garage doors and serve you from there, which I guess is why it is called Win-Dow. Whatever the reason, it works. The staff were courteous, efficient, and made the process easy. Now to the food. My burger was smashed the right way but still juicy, which is exactly what you want. The meat tasted high quality, the cheese was good, the bun held everything together, and the whole burger just came together really well. The fries were crispy exactly the way I like them. I also ordered the Brussels sprouts and asked for them crisp with the house dressing instead of ranch. That was a great call. They forgot them at first, but when I went back in they apologized and brought them out right away. No attitude, no problem, just fixed it and kept it moving. For dessert, I was originally going to get the dipped mint ice cream, but the guy in front of me ordered the salted caramel and said it was really good, so I followed his lead. Great decision. That salted caramel was top tier. From parking to burger to dessert, Win-Dow delivered across the board. One thing to know is that there is no indoor seating, so you will be sitting outside. But there are restrooms in the back, and it seemed very family friendly. I saw a lot of people there with kids and families, and everybody looked like they were having a good time. This is the kind of place that makes you want to come back. Even while I was there, I was already looking at the menu thinking about what I want to order next time later in the week. Kat was right. Another review from now several months ago that I wrote a draft for last fall, then never finished it... it's like in-an-out, but craftier. On one hand, $8 sounds like a good amount of money for a fast food (double) cheeseburger - on the other hand, Sideburns makes my favorite smash burger in the city, but their basic smashburger is $11, and that's not even a double burger. Anyway, one double cheese burger was quite satisfying, it was more filling than it looked at first. It's exactly what was advertised - In-N-Out, but craftier. Great buns, great meat, a classic cheeseburger... a bit salty though (it really needed ketchup to offset the saltiness... so I asked for ketchup and got some and added it, which improves it greatly :p. As with In-N-Out, I didn't buy the fries and thus couldn't comment on them. Mostly because the burger was quite enough food, though, in this case.) Being more of a quick stop place, obviously there isn't any alcohol, but in addition to $6 shakes (assuming they haven't gone up since a few months ago - I didn't get one, but assume they're also great), they had lemonade/arnold palmers for $2.50 - actual lemonade, not from a mix. I did get an arnold palmer, and it was, expectedly, great. A lot of the seating is outside around the side of the building on a bar-top-type setup - I though that was pretty neat, though, it's a nice area, as long as it's a reasonable temperature, which it is more often than not. Such a vibey spot! Highly recommend coming here on a nice day! We chose a perfect day to come. Everything is open and bright, it's quite relaxing. The burger is perfectly cooked with nice charring throughout and balanced perfectly with sweet/crunchy pickles layered underneath their special sauce. The kale salad is really good but if you don't like raisins then you won't like it. I went to the Win-Dow on a Monday night. The design is very cute with the rose logo and the open window seating. While there isn't much seating, it wasn't crowded at all at the time we went. There is a small free parking lot behind the restaurant and street parking around the area. We ordered 2 double cheeseburgers, fries and a strawberry shake. Order total was around $27. The shake came out first and it was pretty good. I think it will be better once strawberry season comes around again. Been here so many times I've truly lost count, there's one by Hollywood that I used to frequent until the Long Beach one became a thing. Located in the Belmont shores area with a decent sized parking lot and some other good local businesses surrounding it. I want to start by noting the strong point of confusion that this place gave me that still puzzles me and makes me ask--- Does my world view continue to be limited even though I consider myself to be broad of mind? I was given a milkshake with a spoon, I was not given a straw. I had to ask for a straw. I have known milkshakes so thick that one needs a spoon to enjoy the experience to its end, but I have never been given a milkshake so thick that it only needs a spoon. So was I given a milkshake or a sundae? I did not take a picture of the sun-shake (a mixture of the word milkshake and sundae) but I did take a picture of the menu. The menu explains that they sell hand-spun milkshake. As I reviewed the pictures for this Yelp, I realized that perhaps by definition all hand-spun milkshakes is eaten with a spoon. Is a hand-spun milkshake the thick cream sheep of the ice cream flock? I dare live to find the answer and deny myself immediate satisfaction by consulting Google. A woman in front of me, dressed like she just came with a fabulous garden party was sitting in front of me. She was wearing huge and distinct shades. She also ordered a milkshake. I looked at her, and asked directly and kind of loudly (I am not soft spoken at all), "Do they not give straws with their milkshakes?" She looked at my direction but did not speak. I could not gauge what she was thinking because her brows and eyes were cloaked by her glasses. Then I said, "Do you speak English?" She did not answer. But people around me smiled because my question that was for her was heard by others and apparently was comical. To be clear, my straw question was the one that gathered the smiles. I went with my friend Conrad, a hamburger lover, and I thought we can try this spot---- it is suppose to be good and at a favorable price point for the frugal (which I am evolving to be) so why not? The menu describes the design of the hamburger: flat-top grilled patty, onions, American cheese, pickles and a house sauce. All of these ingredients are pivotal for a classic burger and this burger was a classic burger that was better than others but not so good that it stands as a star. And to be fair what basically created hamburger can wow so big that it wins the best basic burger of the land? But I can say with much appreciation and confidence, that I will happily go again to this place, if I am in the area, or if I need a burger fix for a modest price. But honestly, the S'mores milkshake is the better draw. Conrad and I split one. When I had the first sip of my half, I needed one to myself. The richness of the shake was sweet, and the marshmallow taste was deep and snapped my neurons into detection mode---- I was sipping something that I usually chewed, this was wonderful confusion. Another point of confusing was the red rose theme of the place. Not sure how roses connect to good burgers. Also, in one of the pictures I catch the slogan of the place: "Fast and Easy eating." So the place aims to serve you fast and give you easy food to like, which captures their theme well. But they do such a good job that too many folks comes which makes the food take long and finding parking or a place to eat hard.
