We went into Dilly's for the first time, and ordered a pastrami sandwich. I asked if the pastrami was fresh, and let me fast-forward to the answer-YES. The server (owner?) asked if we wanted cheese and Cole slaw, and that's how we got it. The sandwich was big enough to share so if the sandwich seems pricey, consider sharing. Although on a hungry day, I could probably eat it all with no problem. Dilly's has a fairly decent amount of craft beers on draft. I wasn't in a beer-drinking mood so I didn't look too closely at the list. I love it when restaurants support local brewers, and this looks like the kind of place that would do just that. read more

Heard about Dilly's Sandwiches having the most unique rotating set of beers on tap in Long Beach, so had to come to try it. The taste portions were very reasonably priced, allowing to create your own flight (or two). Specifically scheduled an early afternoon to come to the Lakewood Village neighborhood of East Long Beach. My wife found an angled parking spot right in front. It wasn't too crowded inside and the four of us found easy, comfortable seating in the brightly decorated dining room. One places and pays for the order at the counter, with the proprietors being very friendly and engaged. They brought out our beers after the pour, and the sandwiches a bit after (since each is individually carefully made). Beers: - Northern Lager [Oxbow] - ($5 for 13oz pour) was clean, crisp and a hoppy aftertaste. - Infinite Hotel [The Wayfinder X Bierstadt] (marked as $3 but charged $4) is a rice lager and was the favorite of the group for its drinkability - Winteruption [JK's Farmhouse] ($3) is a cider with very strong maple syrup overtones: never tasted anything like it. - Hyper Paradise [Rare Barrel] ($4) - saison and ale with mango and passion fruit. I liked this beer very much. - A Place Like Home [Pure Project] ($3) - Nitro poured Extra Special Bitter. - Double Negative [Grimm] ($4) - Imperial Stout, which I really enjoyed. - Amongst Friends [Sante Adairius] ($4) - a cherry saison, unusual and was glad to sample. A lot of work was put into creating this flight, with the careful pours and markings to make sure I knew what was what. I really appreciated the opportunity to sample all of these on-tap. In terms of the food, the group as a whole really liked them, though I guess I wasn't as impressed with my two samples, mainly because it used non-descript deli meat in OK quantities, heating them up when necessary. Hot Beef ($18) was my wife's, and it had been griddled with cheese to form a crispy lattice. The Ham and Cheese ($16) was served cold and had potato chips inside which my mother-in-law liked (saving the other half for home). Our friend and I split the Hot Turkey ($16) and Pastrami No 19 style ($20). The pastrami meat was piled high and the cole slaw was crisp and good, but was served cold (should have read the description more closely) and mediocre rye bread broke apart quickly. The Hot Turkey ($16) was served on ciabatta that had been grill pressed for a long time, creating a wonderful crust as good as any sandwich I've had. But the filling was OK, using standard turkey breast slices from a loaf and an ok stuffing...using hand carved turkey would have made a big difference here, but understand it's hard to do. Strangely, even though it's a pickle adorned shop, each sandwich just came with an ordinary pickle spear, what one would expect from a diner, not a deli. And the prices are on the higher side, especially with no sides and most not being particularly ginormous. But I loved how each sandwich used different breads, and how some of them were toasted very well. And having the opportunity to try these unique beers made it a really good experience. read more

If I had to guess, Dilly is the passion project of someone who clearly loves sandwiches and beer. Just a guess. And I appreciate and respect them for this endeavor. We ordered two: -turkey ($16): shaved turkey, lettuce, avocado, pepperoncini and dilly spread on sweet brown bread -ham & cheese ($16): honey- cured ham, pimento cheese, and potato chips inside white bread All the veggies in the turkey sandwich made it taste v fresh. The combination of crunchy lettuce and creamy avocado was really nice play on textures. There is an absence of cheese on the sandwich though the dilly spread did its part. It's a solid turkey sandwich. In contrast with the turkey sandwich, we ordered the ham & cheese which is like a version of ham & cheese on steroids. They sub out the cheese for a pimento spread and add in potato chips for an added crunch. I liked that it's served on unpretentious white bread which gives it 90's school lunch. Such a fun sandwich. I love sandwiches and I was so excited to try this deli. We got two sandwiches. Pastrami and tuna. My husband loved his pastrami sandwich. Flavor was good. I had the tuna, and sadly I felt robbed. Flavor of the tuna was good however I had very little tuna. More lettuce than anything. Also bread was dry . Paying almost $50 for two sandwiches was a big disappointment! We're always on the hunt for a food sandwich and Yelp lead us here! When in Long Beach, one of the first things you thing about is parking. There was plenty of parking on the street and the parking lot. When you enter, there are long tables for larger parties on the left, and smaller tables for two on the right. They serve beer and wine. Another great visit to Dilly's. One of our favorites sandwich spots for a weekend lunch! We ordered the Hot Turkey Sandwich (limited Holiday Special). OMG so delicious. We decided to split the dandwich knowing Dilly's generous portions (we often leave with a whole sandwich when we order two and enjoy later!) and didn't think this sandwich would make a good leftover! FOOD: I have been eager to try Dilly's. I had the turkey sandwich, my friend had the pastrami sandwich and we also tried the chili. I liked my sandwich, but felt there were too many peppers on it. The turkey was fresh, smoky and delicious. I didn't try the pastrami sandwich, but it looked good and my friend kept commenting on how delicious the pickle was. I really liked the chili. There are no beans and it comes with a nice slice of toasted bread. I chose sourdough. I also had an IPA from ISM brewery. It was refreshing. I was really impressed by their beer wall. I came back and it was even better than before. This time I was in a rush and ordered in advance on their website. Easy process, nice and quick and love the extra benefit when in a rush. Today's order included ham and cheese as is, BLT no mustard and Pullman bread, Dilly Slaw and the Chili again. Ham and cheese was basic and not in a bad way, an iconic perfect way. By far my husband's fav! Pullman is soft, great meat to bread ratio and honey mustard was perfect compliment to the soft bread and fatty meat and cheese. Loved it and would get again, maybe as a melt next time, which was an option and I think the texture would be a solid addition. Next the BLT, my fav. As I predicted last time their bacon cooking method is solid and anything with bacon is a win here. It was supposed to have sourdough and mustard but not my fav so it switched to Pullman no mustard. I would try it next time with sourdough because I think it would be great contrast with the avocado. It was too much avocado for my husband which was perfect for me (sometimes opposites attract). He was wrong I was right and it was amazing! TONS of Bacon and Avocado and probably one of my fav BLTA ever! Slaw was amazing, sweet and creamy. Traditional no crazy seasoning, simple and exactly what you want with a sandwich. Looking forward to trying pasta and Mac salad next time. Chili was a 2nd chance and salt was on point this time. It is a perfect topping chili. On a hot dog or burger or over rice it would be great. For a standalone eat chili with a sandwich I typically like more texture however I would be lying to say I wouldn't buy it every time to use for other things. Popped in here on a Tuesday afternoon absolutely starving, and walked out seriously impressed. First off the space is huge tons of seating, good lighting, and a really fun, laid back atmosphere. Had lunch here yesterday with a few colleagues. First of many visits!! I ordered the hot roast beef. Sandwich was amazing. My buddies got the Pastrami and Turkey/Avo. Every sandwich was packed with quality meats and cheeses. Bread was amazing. Pickles awesome. The owner/manager was awesome and his staff were very friendly. I owned a Togo's Eatery for 14 years and I have say, these sandwiches blow away Togos and all the other franchises sandwich shops. I am shocked there aren't lines out the door. I'm seeing too many negative reviews on this place. Lets start off with the real showcase of the restaurant- the staff! They were happy to be there, happy to talk and give recommendations and were happy to be working there. It gave off a happy vibe that really made me happy to be there too. I see people talking about the price of the food - yes I paid $60 (including a well deserved tip) in this economy to go out on a date with my partner. This isn't different from anywhere else right now in my opinion. My partner and I ranked the pickle cartoons on the wall. Top favs: Cowboy pickle and dog walking pickle. FOOD: The Hot Pastrami sandwich with added pepperoncinis (recommended add on by the incredible staff) was our favorite. It needed the pepperoncinis - the flavor was incredible. The Beef Chili was very delicious with bread to dip in it. I would go back for that chili! The Hot Beef sandwich was filled with a lot of meat for the price - but I got it because I read tillamook with creamed horseradish. I wanted more of a horseradish flavor! But I'm glad this restaurant knows tillamook is the superior brand for cheese! Overall - a great experience - plenty of dining space to bring friends and hang out. I gotta say that every sandwich they made was absolutely delicious. You can tell that all the ingredients they use to make their sandwiches are as fresh as possible. The Ruben had great flavor. My favorite though was the BLT, as the fresh avocado, tomato's and lettuce were fantastic. My wife absolutely loved the Egg Salad, and it's now her favorite of any local place we have gone to. The pickled tomatoes were interesting, and the beef chili was amazing as well. The service was great, and super quick. Very friendly environment. I especially like their choice of beers on their vast menu, and love the simple sandwich shop decor. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for delicious fresh ingredients and vegan/vegetarian options. I took off one star as this place is very expensive for sandwiches. Met here with a couple of friends for a holiday get-together. It's a great spot, with lots of tables and fun pickle art on the wall. One friend had the turkey sandwich and loved the brown bread, the other had pastrami on rye and I had the Reuben. We also got the pickle party assortment and everyone had a beer. I liked that they had beer tasters for $3-5 and I really enjoyed the maple nitro ale that I got. The sandwiches are not inexpensive, but there is plenty of meat on them and we all ate half a sandwich and brought it home for the next day. Ok ok... After seeing Dilly's mentioned so many times as a recommendation for yummy sammiches, I finally understand why! Woah mama! I mean. What? How have I not been here before? I bragged on their flyer that mentioned Pennywise and they told me that the band named the sandwich. Haha I LOVE IT! We shot the shiz and talked about music and about my hubby's LB bands Dissension and All Day and how they played with them a handful of times through the years. I just know Matt will love coming here for a beer and another sandwich! We both enjoy spreading the love to our local food gems of Long Beach! I have a feeling he might even know them if they're in the punk scene. We shall see. I asked for their names and they are Brein and Rory! Love their new spot here and hope they're here to stay. The place is quite big, very clean. The customer service was very good. My friend had the turkey, and I had the BLT. She ate half and took the the half to go, she loved it. I liked mine, the bacon was pre cooked, would of like more avocado. I had the dilly michelada, it was interesting. For my personal preference it had too much pickle juice, I couldn't taste the beer at all. More Clamato would of been nice. I don't recommend it. And I have drink pickle juice from the jar before lol read more
