Ordered a club and a turkey n cheese. Only knock - too much mayo. They mayo both sides of sub but only put mustard in one half which I thought was strange but might just be me. Delicious bread which is the keystone of any great sandwich. Meat, cheese, and filling ratio to bread was on point! Excellent customer service and quick. Quaint inside- nice and clean. Since I was out and about in the Lakewood area, I wanted to try someplace new. OJ's was on my list and 3 minutes from my medical appointment so I hit the Yellow Brick Road looking for a sandwich. OJ's is located in a small strip mall but parking is adequate so no worries there. Having checked out the menu on Yelp, I already knew I wanted the Italian. I had called twice before I drove there but no one picked up so I was relieved they were open. The Italian contains ham, cotto salami, mortadella, and best of all capocollo with provolone. The large is enough for 2 people to split or make 2 meals out of if you're not ravenous. All the lettuce, tomatoes, pepperoncini, and onions were very fresh and the roll was nice and soft. The Works sub must be a real monster. Service was great. My sub was done in a snap and I was ready to go. Very friendly staff working the shop. The only let down was being charged for using a credit card. I didn't see any sign but maybe I just missed it. It was only 75 cents so no biggie but it would be nice if they could tell you there's a charge if you'd rather pay cash. Oh well. Decided to finally give this place a try. I called to make a phone order , I Waited on hold for 4 minutes - Maybe I should have taken my first instinct and hung up after about a minute or two and went somewhere else. I ordered two sandwiches. Tomatoes were missing on both. Based on the hang time on the phone and missing basic ingredients - I'd probably recommend eating at another sandwich spot - Like Jersey mikes or even subway. I hate saying that, but they are at least consistent. Will I be back? Probably not. Decent place but for suuuuuure not on my highly recommended list. Let me start by saying that I had tried coming a few times due to my schedule I would always be too late. Today I risked running out of gas to make it lol. My first impression was the service, the owner was present and she was super kind and engaging in conversation and I loved that! Second, my sandwich met my expectations!!! NOT DRY, bunch of crunchy bits, nice pickles and peppers in my sandwich. I loved every bit and will be back later with my husband! Thank you for making your shop so welcoming and being so helpful. Delicious!!! I went in here on my lunch looking for an authentic, good Italian sandwich and got exactly that! The food is FRESH and delicious, the service is great, (not sure if it's family owned but it sure feels that way) and it's CLEAN! This was my test drive to see if I would come back again for office lunches and it absolutely passes, I bought my staff some subs and they all loved it. the meats and bread taste so fresh, I can eat a foot long and not feel stuffed, the bread is so light and tastes like it was just made. Finally tried this place in Lakewood. Patty who made my sandwiches has been there 22+ years, she worked for previous owner. Prev owner retired and sold to her just before pandemic. Very warm friendly and welcoming. This place has been there 40 years or more, glad to see the legacy continue. Sandwiches were not cheap: $45 for 2 foot longs, 2 large fountain sodas and 1 large 4oz macaroni salad to share. Expensive for what it is but high quality. Macaroni salad: excellent, elbows with slightly sweet mayo dressing,with yellow mustard and sweet relish forward, and minced red bell pepper. Very fresh and tasty, I could eat my own tub of this. 5/5 The Works sub: chock full of goodness: tons of layers of meat, shredded lettuce, onion and pepperoncini. A very hefty sandwich. 5/5 Meatball: got it topped with onions and pepperoncinis. Tomato sauce was pretty sweet; we inhaled that sandwich. Not as hefty as The Works but a nice warm sandwich. 4/5 Sandwich rolls are excellent, tender crumb with a little chew. It's not a big place but they certainly have some tables to grab lunch if you want to eat in. Very good for sandwiches. Will be back again. read more

Had to go to Long Beach for work and was in the mood for a good sandwich. Thanks to Yelp, I found OJs Subs. Another great small business with quality food. As I've said before, I judge sandwich shops by their Italian sandwich and OJs did not disappoint. Initially, I thought the bread was a bit on the soft side but it was good and the thinly sliced lettuce and onions are the way to go as they add so much texture to the sandwich. I opted for light dressing in case it made the bread soggy or overpowers the taste. I got the large (12") and it's quite a bit of food. Can probably share with someone but it's easy to keep eating when the food tastes good. Will come back here if I am back in Long Beach. Plus, the owner is very nice and I had a chance to chat with her to compliment her on the food but I also had to ask about the business name... Rest assured, this place is not named after OJ Simpson . The original owner (40 years ago) named it after one of his grand kids initials. The hours posted say Thursday 9-6. I drive all the over here excited to try what looks like a tasty sub. I arrive at 5:24 pm and the place is already closed. It's not even 6 pm yet. I strongly believe in supporting small businesses and do as much as possible. It's really frustrating to show up to a place that is supposed to be open and they are closed with no explanation. Revisit? Yes, my family and I have been enjoying sandwiches here for over 20 years now! OJ Subs has the best sandwich bread. On top of that, the cold cuts, cheese, and veg always taste fresh and are in perfect ratios to one another. I usually get an Italian or OJ's Regular, just the way they come, with everything. The prices here are fair for the sandwich length and amount of ingredients you're getting. Especially compared to a place like Jersey Mike's where the "giant" size is $20 and the sandwich is packed with more lettuce than meat. At OJ's, ordering a large for $15 will easily give you enough food for two people. The shop is a quiet place with tables inside. It's clean, and the employees are always nice and get the food out quickly. Parking here is easy. Unfortunately, you can't come late at night for a snack as they close around dinner time. Just happened into OJ's Subs after the proprietor of Barton's Liquor Store a few doors down recommended it. Owner and proprietor Patty worked here and bought out the store from the previous owner/employer and it's been under her and his previous control for 24 years! Why do I tell you all this? Because you spend that much time open, surviving as a restaurant, making sandwiches exclusively? You master the craft. And boy have they... Patty recommends I try The Italian and I request a large at $14.50 with half for here and half to go for later. Let me tell you, what arrives in a red plastic tray is just beautiful and fresh looking vegetables, seasoning and dressing and peppers all atop the thinly sliced and perfectly assembled cold cuts... ham, cotto salami, mortadella, capocollo, cheese in just the right amount. One bite through the soft bread and I'm thrilled: this is a great sub sando spot and if you find yourself in the 'hood, definitely stop through. This is my first time coming here and I expect to try it again. I love the fact that it's an independent business owned by a single mother, from what I've read. That, and its proximity to where I was, had a great effect on my choice. The opinions of yelpers definitely contributed as well. I was here on a weekday, about 20 minutes before noon. I knew I was going back to my office to eat , which was a good 20 minutes away, because of that, I ordered the Italian dressing on the side, which they were fine in accommodating. They have two sides: potato and macaroni salad, neither of which they had this day. I don't hold that against them. Everyone was very nice and the service was lovely. I ordered the Italian sandwich. When I got back to work, the sandwich was a little soggy and mushy, but not terribly so. But there was juice dripping all over the place. So next time Id order it without Mayo or mustard and add them later. The sandwich was really good, albeit mushy on the edges. It had good ingredients and was well balanced. I look forward to trying the sides and giving this worthy place another try. I'd say this place is pretty good and I'm sure will be really good the next time I swing by. read more

Although the ingredients are fresh, and the environs clean, there is no reason to go out of your way to try this joint because the quality was similar to something you could order at Togo's. The turkey and avocado was delicious with the avocado being at the perfect point of ripeness, and my partner's Italian sub came with all the usual trimmings. The macaroni salad didn't taste handmade, but rather it had the flavor of a tub bought from Smart & Final: nothing special.
