Zankou is a chain that started years ago. The first one I went to was in. West Hollywood. Then I lived in Pasadena and went to that one many times. This one opened near my home a couple of years ago. Zankous are fast food mediterranean, with roasted chicken, beef shawarma, chicken tarna, falafel, chicken kabob, shish kabob, and lula kabob. These meats are paired with all kinds of mediterranean sides. I've loved this place for years. The service is always professional so ava quick. Never a complaint. This is a fast food place. I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Zankou Chicken. I ordered lunch directly from the restaurant, but because they require customers to use DoorDash for delivery, my meal was never delivered. When I contacted the restaurant to explain what happened, I expected them to show some concern or offer a solution. Instead, the manager told me there was nothing Zankou could do to make the situation right. That response was incredibly frustrating. I understand that DoorDash is a third-party delivery service, but when a restaurant requires customers to use that service, it should also take some responsibility for helping resolve delivery issues. Simply telling a paying customer that nothing can be done is not acceptable customer service. Good customer service isn't just about preparing good food--it's about standing behind the entire customer experience. Unfortunately, Zankou Chicken failed to do that in my case. I have been a fan of Zankou chicken for decades. Literally at least 2 decades. I was excited that one opened in LB since i head that way for work at times. Its been awhile since I had it as it's usually not any around me. I realized the flavor is a bit different from the Pasadena location where I had my first zankou visit decades ago. I also know there's inflation but man, did it inflate! Generally, not bad for a quick craving fix but not my favorite location in terms on flavor. Not as consistent to other locations I have tried. Will still come back if craving it though. However probably not as much if they don't clean the veggies. As I found the "made in mexico sticker" still left on a piece of tomato in my very costly cucumber salad. A bit disappointed by that and wondering how well they clean the raw veggies. Really friendly staff I had questions about the menu and was answered without making me feel dumb. Originally ordered the kabob and he informed me it would take up to 15 minutes and I realized I didn't have that much time so switched up the order with no issues. I was very disappointed at how the service was when we came here. Zankou is renowned for their quality chicken and sides, but this branch ended up eating up a lot of our time on a Sunday night. The line to order was slow and long, while we waited and there was a huge line behind us inside of the cramped space, Pamela took a phone call order. No one else helped at the registers. We waited for Pamela to take a long phone call order (to which she walked back and forth from the kitchen to ask about the food) and then finally finishes, before asking us if we are ready. Yes, we were.. Then we stood up front for a long time. We were told 25 minutes, we ended up standing and waiting for 45-55 minutes. The only lady packing the food was very slow in just bagging and lidding the food items. She took at least 3 minutes to bag 1 order because she kept looking back and forth at the monitor and when she announces the order number, it's very fast and unclear so no one can tell whose order it was. It was very appalling at how slow it was and the amount of people waiting in front of her didn't seem to make her want to hurry. There appeared to be a wait/issue with rotisserie chicken. Plans for dinner was very delayed. At the 50 minute mark? Someone asks her how much long for the chicken. She asks the chef, and the chef says they have a few chickens ready. You can be honest. Very odd experience. Super friendly staff, but friendly doesn't necessarily mean hospitable if you don't really care. I sense that after I preventively asked, do you have mom's lentil?Super available as the cashier , checked and said yes. I'm very familiar with Zankou Chicken as I used to eat it all the time when I lived in the Pasadena area. I'm happy that they brought this location to Long Beach near Long Beach Airport on Willow and Lakewood Blvd. Zankou serves mediterranean food and their shish kabobs are great, but I crave their delicious chicken dishes with their addictive garlic sauce. I typically like to get any of their chicken thigh dishes. It's also hard to pass up their family meal for $30 for a rotisserie chicken and all the sides. If I want a lighter meal, then I'll get a tarna wrap in pita (chicken thigh), which comes loaded with their addictive garlic sauce (toum) and hummus. Today, in lieu of getting the wrap, I went with their "combo kebab" plate, which had two kebabs, salad, hummus, and pita for $20. For my kebabs, I went with chicken and steak. The kebabs are made to order and I feel that it's a great value compared to the wrap because you get more meat and you get a bunch of delicious extras (rice, salad, sauces, etc). The food here is delicious. I might consider going elsewhere for kebabs if I want lamb (which they don't serve) or steak (which they do serve); however you really can't go wrong with their chicken and addictive sauces. read more

The young lady that took my order seemed nice when she took my order. I walked over to the counter and the menu had so many different things to choose from here's what I ordered. Half chicken dinner it incudes two sides I chose cucumber salad and rice and a fountain soda. Hummus & pita Bread. Tsaziki sauce & pita chips. Two complimentary garlic sauce with a meal. $38.00 total price. The meal consists of a nicely roasted half breast and thigh with a small wing attached it was seasoned very well and tasty down to the bone juicy and delicious even when I ate it cold that chicken was soo good. 10/10 The cucumber salad was crunchy delicious and refreshing it paired perfectly with the chicken I loved it. 10/10 Rice was seasoned and tasted very good and it was delicious hot and when it was cold. 9/10 Falafel I ordered one to try it smelled good but I didn't like the taste the flavors are a bit too strong and herbaceous for me it's all good though I'm glad I tried it. 7/10 Hummus was flavorful and very good and came with two packs of (2 each) The pita bread tasted fresh and soft tomorrow I'll toast it and make pita sandwiches with the leftover chicken. 10/10 hummus & pita bread 10/10 Tsaziki sauce was delicious the toasted pita is very crunchy perfect for tsaziki sauce and hummus tomorrow I'll sprinkle on something spicy to kick up those chips. 10/10 Garlic sauce is very strong just like I love it - and slathered on the chicken when it's hot is divine it will also be used in pita wrap leftovers tomorrow. 10/10 The fountain soda area had many choices I mixed Lemonade & Cucumber mint lemonade together it was an interesting combination tasty and refreshing I loved it. 9/10 All in all my food experience at Zankou was pretty good I definitely will return for another order of roasted chicken and cucumber salad. I never had a bowl like this before with so many flavors. The chicken is carved straight off the big spinning spit, tender with little charred edges, sitting on top of buttery rice with creamy hummus, feta, kalamata olives, cucumber tomato salad, and a hit of cilantro. Let me tell you the amount of food is insane and so good. Everyone loved it. Now here's where I was thrown off. I was like oh cool it comes with a tray of falafel lemme try one.
