Pancakes
Jessica R.

I have been wanting to come here for years after I heard about their amazing weekend brunch and thankfully, I found myself in the area last Sunday! Sadly, they are only open two days a week for only 5 hours each day, which makes it a bit hard to visit! Nevertheless, it was well worth the drive from Los Angeles! I was able to find parking on the side street right by the restaurant and parking seemed plentiful in the area. There is a gorgeous patio on the street, but I opted to dine inside to stay out of the sun. I was greeted by the very friendly staff upon arrival and they were quick to take my order. I opted for the pancakes, as I was in the mood for something sweet. The pancakes were very delicious and very pillowy. I loved the fruit and coconut whipped cream, which added an extra decadence to the meal. The pancakes were pretty light and while they were filling, it didn't feel heavy in my stomach. The other food I saw being brought out looked equally delicious. The vibes inside were very fun and vibrant and I felt great eating there. The restaurant was spacious but at the same time still felt cozy. The seating was very comfortable and relaxing. The staff checked on me frequently and were very helpful and personable. Payment is by cash, Zelle and Venmo so be sure to have one of those handy! The restaurant is also steps away from the beach and a walkway, so a perfect way to burn off the food after you eat! I hope to return the next time I'm in Long Beach!

Zucchini bites

Loved the vibe of this vegan place! Went here with a couple friends when we were visiting the area on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn't too busy. I shared zucchini bites and pickle fries with friends, and my partner and I shared the crispy chicken sandwich. I also got a Jamaica agua fresca which was really refreshing. Service was great as well.

This is why people choose Starbucks over small buisnesses. This was $5 and the smallest cup I've ever seen.

This is why people choose Starbucks over small businesses. This was $5 for the smallest cup ever. And the gag is it's completely bitter.

Highly HIGHLY recommended - look no further if you're in Long Beach area or, tbh, southern California in general... it's truuuly THAT outstanding. Ambience: pretty much perfection, not too loud, gentle breezy (literally - it's near the bluffs overlooking the ocean in LB ), easy parking, never waited more than 10min at any time of day. The Staff: (( always.always )) on point, chef skills are otherworldly and I've enjoyed exactly EACH AND EVERY meal I've had here. So, g'head & stop whatever you're doing rn and *go.to.here* ASAP - you'// be so glad you did!

We used to get the vegan Monte Cristo and other delights when The Wild Chive (vegan) was a pop-up at the LB Farmers Market (years ago). This was our first time getting to visit their brick-and-mortar spot. Wow! Such a fun interior (disco balls are always a win!) and lots of seating inside as well as some shaded tables outside. The playlist was great! Before we left I went inside to ask about the playlist . They were so great to share it with me! The large kitchen window just adds to the cool interior. We were at Mangiafoglie (another vegan/plant-based restaurant) last night for dinner and saw a poster advertising Long Beach Food Scene Week. As soon as I saw that Wild Chive was advertising a Carne Asada Banh Mi (freshly-baked baguette, pickled carrots, sriracha, cilantro, Fresno chiles, crispy fried shallots, and house-made cilantro-lime aioli + a side salad) I knew that the MR. would want to go there for lunch. This was def the best Bahn Mi that he has ever had! I opted for something a with a little less spice! Oat Milk Berry Pancakes for me! Two fluffy oat milk, blueberry pancakes, topped with fresh strawberries, coco-whip, and dusted with powdered sugar. House-made vegan butter and maple syrup served on the side. Everyone working there was so friendly and had positive vibes!

Burrizo with fries

We went last weekend, and Kes gave us excellent service. I ordered a burrizo, which was spiced well. As a carnivore, I thoroughly enjoyed it, which was a gentle surprise. I loved the rainbow flags. Great way to start June. Beautiful ambiance.

Food was very delicious and I will come back again to try something different. The mushroom sandwich was very meaty tasting and seasoned great with some delicious homemade bread. The soju-Rita was also very delicious and a great price at $9. My negatives were the service. It was sooo slow!!! They asked if I wanted ketchup with my fries but then never brought it. Unless you flag someone down you won't be helped. The music was also so loud you can't carry a conversation even outside. The seating was also uncomfortable, the bench was straight up at a 90 degree angle and the boards were uneven to sit on.

Delicious burrizo!

I've had this spot bookmarked for a few years and I'm mad that I waited so long to try it. The brunch menu was simple and easy to choose from, which I appreciated. The country breakfast and the burizzo were both delicious. I expected them to taste similar, but they both had their own unique flavor profile. The texture on the burizzo tortilla was perfection. Areli gave us great recommendations and fast service. She and another lass helped us get rid of some frustrating hiccups. They tried scaring tactics, mental games and finally a shot of hot sauce, which did the trick. They went above and beyond and made The Wild Chive a new favorite Long Beach spot. The sidewalk seating was very relaxing and dog friendly , very appreciated as well. It's all street parking, but it wasn't that hard to find a spot even on a Saturday at noon. Clean restrooms too!

Inside!

I'm always on the lookout for a good brunch spot, and The Wild Chive totally delivered. The vibe is unmatched--great music, a friendly and diverse staff, and a menu full of affordable, flavorful vegan dishes. Their to-go cafe serves amazing coffee, and the space is super inclusive: dog-friendly, LGBTQ+ friendly, and proudly POC & women-owned. Street parking is available nearby, so getting there is a breeze. My only negative? I wish they were open more often because they're that good! I think they rotate their menu, too--last time I went, I tried their Monte Cristo sandwich, but it wasn't on the menu this time. Still, I'm already looking forward to going back! Food: don't know that vegan food can taste so good!! I love the grilled burizzo, crispy zucchini bites and the French toast!! My top 3. Service: was great!! Staff are very friendly and attentive!! Ambiance: very unique with its mural on the ways with a twist of modern, yet with political view.

Wild Chive remains my favorite restaurant since trying it for the first time a year ago. When I'm in town, I have to come once a week. Since going vegan a few years ago, it's been hard to find vegan restaurants that I enjoy, but not Wild Chive. Truly knocks it out of the park every time. Exceptional flavor, diverse menu, and stellar service.

I finally got to try this place that I've had booked marked for YEARS!!! The experience was absolutely amazing! The staff was very helpful and welcoming and our server gave great recs. The food was EXCELLENT! I had the patty melt and fried zucchini bites. There are so many options and I can't wait to go back and try more of them. This is vegan comfort food at its finest!

**this is going to be a more collective review as i've gone here a couple times when i've travelled to LB. (biscuit is most recent Dec 2024, while the rest is July 2024). every time i go here, the menu changes a little bit so bit if a bummer when i can't try the same dishes i've had previously. but on the plus side there is more room for variety and new things to try. the chick'n and biscuit is great, bacon a bit tough and hard to chew through but if you soak it with a bit of gravy it'll suffice. montecristo is my absolute fave to order here though, comes with jam and a generous dusting of sugar. it's definitely big enough to share as a small brunch. the space is cute, and the service is even better. great place to get veg comfort meals!

Is the Monte Cristo coming back? I drive from Marina del Rey to get it, though keep seeing it off the menu. Please keep it permanently 🙏🏽

Will the gluten free waffle that can replace things and make more than one dish be gluten free ever come back?

Hi Jade, It will be making a come back this fall/winter. Thank you!

They have changed their reservation policy multiple times since the brick and mortar opened. And now their phone number doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know if we need a reservation or if they accept walk ins?

Yes, there were a couple diners with [well behaved] dogs in the restaurant when I was there.

Is there outdoor dining available?

They have some outdoor tables but it's limited.

Yes! They a lot! My favorite is the wafflelito, the waffles are made out of corn! So good!!!

Since they don't have dine-in is there anywhere nearby to sit and eat?

It's a short walk to both Bixby Park and the Bluff.

Where can I get their food?????? ive been trying for a year

They used to be at the Long Beach Marina farmers market. They're opening up a brick and mortar in Feb. sometime. Check their IG to keep updated.

Does the restaurant use nuts at all for dishes ? If so, are they careful to accommodate someone who has nut allergies (including dairy and egg)? Thanks!?

Now they do!

Are there any gluten free options?

Yes! The Chili Waffleito on their breakfast menu, as well as the Bahn Mi Bowl and We Heart Palm Tacos on their dinner menu are fully gluten free.

Hi I know this is a pop up, but is there a certain date when it's no longer there?

They are there every Sunday morning from 9am-2pm and Thursday evenings after 5pm. Follow them on IG for their current hours and specials!

Visually, the burger was impressive and looked exactly like something you'd want to dig into. However, the salt level was overwhelming to the point where I genuinely could not finish it. What made matters worse was that our server was not attentive with refilling our waters, and when you're working through an extremely salty dish, hydration isn't optional. I left the meal feeling dehydrated and honestly a little frustrated. The bright spot of the visit was the Brussels sprouts, which were genuinely well done and showed some real kitchen care. If I were to return, I'd probably stick to the vegetable sides. For a restaurant with a 4 PM lull and minimal table traffic, there's no excuse for that level of inattentiveness. A simple water refill and a quick check in would have saved the experience. As it stands, the combination of an over salted entrée and absent service made for a tough sell on the value. If you're in the area craving a burger, you might want to save your money and head down the street to Louis Burger instead. Ellie's may shine in other areas; I've heard good things about the pasta, but this particular visit missed the mark.

This is probably why most people came in with online/phone orders for pickup and got the heck out of there in a hurry. Fries are okay at best but the onion rings are fantastic! I don't recommend the smash style burger because it's smaller and doesn't come with the fixings, but if that's your thing than by all means enjoy. I got the backyard bbq burger and it was very tasty. Not the best I've ever had but it definitely hits the spot and prices are not bad at all here. If I happen to be in the area again I would definitely be down to phone in my order and pickup for takeout to enjoy the tastiness somewhere I feel a little more comfortable. Staff was also very friendly - when they could be seen at least, but it was one cashier/server with two guys in the kitchen and although it's a small hole in the wall place there is still plenty to do if you're understaffed so I'm not even mad about it. I got a little taste of the spicy fried rice, which was really good. Some of us ordered Thai tea and didn't expect what we received, which was the tea with a Thai tea popsicle. What a treat! There was already a good amount of people waiting when we arrived. They actually were able to seat us right away on the side where the street was at one of the high top counter. Don't think people wanted those seats. One section was empty which we asked if they could moved the umbrella a little to shade us and the other section. We couldn't sit there as we were told that it was for a group of three that was waiting already and they requested it shaded. Ok, so we can't share the umbrella.... Anyway, we sat down and did move the umbrella a little where it would shade everyone but the hostess came back minutes later and moved it back. And of course, the group didn't even sit there which they ended up putting two other people who didn't even care if the umbrella was there... Enough of that. Service was on the slow side. It did take a while till someone came over to take our order as well as brought over some water. Menu did look similar but I'm not sure if they added new items on the menu. After we ordered which did take a while a drink did come out. I had to walk over to the bar section to ask for a straw. Appetizer did come out pretty fast which was the onion blossom. It looked amazing, a little salty but good. The waiter that brought it out for us, I asked for an extra side of dipping but that never came out. As for the main, the honey chicken sandwich and the breakfast croissant. Well, when the dish came out, one of the order was wrong. Instead of croissant sandwich, it was a breakfast sandwich instead. Server was a little taken back and asked the waiter which they looked somewhat confused. Don't know if it was an honest mistake or they just put in the wrong order. Anyways, had to wait for that to come out. Again, still didn't get any extra sauce which I ended up walking to a table to grab some ketchup instead. One of the server did notice but was like whatever. Rarely did we get checked on until I asked for a refill which was once the whole time. When the bill came, I had to ask again. Not once did water get refilled the whole time till the end. Service was just not the same as prior visit. I don't know if it's new management or just a change in name but it wasn't a nice experience. The food was good I give that but service this time, major fail. Hopefully it's not alway like that. Hopefully, next time will be different.

It's right in Belmont and one neighborhood away from the water. Great date place and bar too. 2026 update: This breaks my heart. The menu has changed, the chef has definitely changed and service has unfortunately gone down. First off they cut a good portion of the menu and the physical design is not the easiest to read. (that's not really a problem tbh but it's something to note) What is the problem are the following: Ordering food for 3 took 20 minutes for servers to come, get food, and water + drinks we ordered. food took almost 45 minutes to arrive at the table. I get the kitchen makes a lot of stuff but this is crazy. at this point we were here for over an hour without eating. Not only were the orders wrong but also food portions were noticeably smaller. Credit due here, they fixed that (ofc which takes an extra time). Final straw here: To get someone's attention, get the bill, then for them to come get the bill, pay, and give us our cards back took: TWENTY MINUTES. Just to pay. tldr: food prices went up, staff not attentive, food still decent but different chef. Food is noticeably saltier. This place is still cute and servers as a great bar but oh my gosh has it gone down hill. Full context half the restaurant was empty. we are so disappointed. this place used to be great :(

TLDR; It's expensive, and not worth the routine visit, but worth the one-time stop in to experience the festivities. The Miracle pop-up at The Ordinarie is somehow even more decorated and extravagant than you'd expect from a seasonal pop-up. The line looks long outside, as there are no reservations, but it moves quickly since they hold everybody to a pretty strict 2-hour time limit. ***UPDATE FOLLOWING DIANA M'S *EDITED* RESPONSE***…read more After deleting her prior response to this review, she is now just focusing on the complaint about the online service fee. I never suggested that it was a "hidden fee", I just pointed out that it is a very high fee for ordering online. As pointed out before, ordering online directly from a restaurant does not usually incur a fee, let alone a $6 fee. If Diana feels that ordering online is so onerous, then maybe she should deactivate that feature and encourage her customers to phone in their orders. Diana should also consider not badgering customers that did not have a good experience with her restaurant and consider taking some classes in Customer Service 101. It's not a good way to run a business and the fastest way to lose customers. ***UPDATE FOLLOWING DIANA M's RESPONSE*** It's unfortunate that the owner responded with excuses and condescension. A simple "Hey, sorry for the mishap, we will make sure it won't happen again" would have sufficed. At least that way, she likely would have had a returning customer since the food is good. But now, no way Jose. And the $5.00 online service fee is egregious. I order quite a bit online and always try to order directly through the restaurants website to avoid fees. I don't know if any other restaurants that charge fees to order online unless there is a delivery involved. --------------------------- Well, not sure what to say. We put in an online order last night, which went through with a $4.95 service fee. (We ordered through their direct site rather than a third party sight to save on fees) If that wasn't bad enough, I showed up at the designated pick up time, and the place was closed. WTF? About an hour later, we were refunded our money, but why is the website taking orders and collecting payments when you're not even open? Talk about inconvenience.
