THIS REVIEW IS FOR HTUNS POP-UP INSIDE BLUE BIRD SUSHI TUESDAY MORNINGS THROUGHOUT OCTOBER! TLDR: GO WHILE YOU CAN! I am not a tea person, generally. I came to Blue Bird expecting to find Juu coffee, and happened upon HTUNS (the "H" is silent). After looking down at the menu taped to the counter and seeing only Matcha and Tea, I asked, "but you still have regular coffee, right?" They did not, in fact, have regular coffee. And it's a good thing, because otherwise I never would have discovered this delicious treat. I got a BBL for breakfast. What I found out immediately was Burmese Brewed Latte, I ordered the BBL with a salted vanilla cream top. When I asked what it was exactly they told me it was a brewed black tea sweetened with cream and sweetened condensed milk. So I immediately was like ooooh, kinda like vietnamese coffee meets milk tea? And they were like sorta. The best way I can describe it is kind of like an iced tea with a cream foam topper?? I don't drink a lot of boba, but it's not as sweet, which I prefer. You can really still taste the tea which is so, so good. The foam itself is very light, and not overly vanilla-flavored. Just enough to make it creamy, but truly let the tea stand out. I didn't taste the salt at first, and then I got a piece in a sip and it was like a delightful little pop of flavor. That only happened a couple of times, but was so yum, otherwise the salt was just there to mellow out the sweetness, like melty vanilla ice cream. I feel like I'm going to be thinking about this tea all week until they come back next Tuesday. HTUNS will be popping up inside Blue Bird Sushi every Tuesday morning the rest of this month. They also plan to bring in breakfast as soon as next month. She said it wouldn't be traditional American breakfast, and I said good, that's the point! I'm not sure I've ever truly had Burmese food, so this has me extremely excited. I googled what a traditional Burmese breakfast might look like, and wow I can't wait to see what menu they pull together for this. My mouth is watering already! I haven't traveled that far east, so I was curious about where Burma was exactly. The closest other countries surrounding it are China, India, and Thailand. Vietnam is not far away either. This is like all my favorite regions for food, so I'm so excited to have a new breakfast experience in the coming months. read more

Bluebird is another place that had been weighing heavily on my mind. I came shortly after opening and was the only customer. It has a small interior and more quaint for an intimate meal. Service from Hkawn was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Hokkaido Scallops, Yellowtail Carpaccio, and Sumo Roll. I highly recommend the scallops and carpaccio. The scallops were large and tasty and the carpaccio came with 8 thick pieces of delicious Yellowtail. The Sumo Roll was good, but not sure I'd order it again. I also enjoyed the Alicia Keys jams they were playing during the meal. read more

Food They import their fish from Japan from the same supplier as Nobu. I can absolutely tell. Miso soup - This was delicious. One of the best I've had along with Red Rock in Torrance. 4.7/5 Unagi don - An excellent and balanced dish. I would suggest adding some Sriracha or ask for some of their spicy sesame paste goma to dip it in to push it over the top. 4.7/5 Sumo roll - A spicy sushi that was very fresh and had the best tuna I've ever had. A bit one note but still a stellar roll. I will probably just get Tuna nigiri next time. 4.6/5 Yellowtail nigiri - Amazing dish. It doesn't get much better than this for the price. 4.9/5 Service Friendly staff and caring. Easy 5/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 This is a top tier sushi restaurant with reasonable prices. Open a bit later than other places, I was able to pop in for take out right before they closed. The space was inviting and had nice decor which I could at least admire as it took about 10 mins to prepare my order. Parking is tough. This place is great for those who can walk there, but honestly, I got extremely lucky finding a place to park in the evening. Something I will have to keep in mind next time. As I dived into my meal, I was impressed that another sushi spots holds their own with the best of LB. A bit different in combinations, but all worked nicely. When ordering, I noticed that had an entire side of the menu dedicated to vegan offerings. Good to know for friends with dietary restrictions and preferences. read more

Very poor service. Would not recommend. There's very little parking available in the area. We spent an hour looking for parking and the restaurant stopped taking orders. This was such a very negative experience. I tried to call ahead to confirm they could take us and they have a full voice mail. read more

This sushi spot is such a hidden gem in Long Beach. Our server was absolutely incredible. She was taking orders, cleaning tables, running food, and dealing with nonstop DoorDash and Grubhub drivers shoving their phones in her face. Despite handling everything on her own, she never missed a beat. She noticed when we were out of ginger, kept our water glasses full, and was so attentive the entire time. I regret not getting her name, but I'll definitely update this review once I do. The entire restaurant was such a vibe and honestly reminded me of my trip to Japan. The fish was incredibly fresh and practically melted in my mouth. They also have a great drink selection at really reasonable prices. Happened to be in Long Beach for family vacation. It's a small place and kind of easy to miss because it says café coffee, etc. on the front window and we weren't sure if you were in the right spot. So I have to figuring it out we are created by a friendly server and the food was absolutely amazing. My son had a spicy tuna fried roll. I did a carry out order but you can sit inside or outside they where pretty empty I had a little hard time finding the place but I also didn't use gps parking is a bit difficult as it's surrounded by apartments and the parking spots are pushed out into the street, the place is a quiet mind kind of vibe there's music videos playing on a tv screen behind the cashier I ordered a few things out of my comfort zone over all everything was good for an appetizer I ordered the dragon balls the cashier said that was one of their popular choices and I could see why it had spicy crab wrapped with masago green onion and a lemon slice on the bottom the masago gave it a great texture addition and a pop of flavor , then I had the tiger roll it's one of my basic favs it was good the spicy mayo on the side gave it a little creamy texture and taste , the Atlantic roll the cashier said was one of their popular choices for me it just alright I wish the salmon had a little salt and pepper on with a hint of lemon and garlic as the salmon tasted a bit dried out finally a spicy baked California roll with spicy mayo it was good a hint of cream cheese would've sent it over all I say go check it out the pricing was worth it read more

Where to even begin!! This place had been on my list to try since they have lots of vegan options and we finally made it out. There are 4 partners in the restaurant and one of them was also our server for the night. He greeted us warmly and quickly brought water and menus. We ordered the crispy rice with avocado, popcorn roll and tofu crunchy roll. When we were ordering he told us about an item they're trying which was a vegan roll with yellow curry sauce and mock shrimp so we said we'll give it a try. Each item was SO good. If you like wasabi flavor the crispy rice with avocado has a wasabi vinaigrette. The tofu crunchy roll was fresh and presentation was so nice. The popcorn roll has tempura cauliflower on top with a spicy mayo drizzle which was almost like 2 dishes in one. And finally the trial item of yellow curry roll with mock shrimp was my favorite. It was SO good and i loved the Thai and sushi fusion. Turns out some of the restaurant partners are Thai so they put a unique spin on this roll to try something new. We got to chat with the partner and he told us about his story in the restaurant business and how they like to experiment with different items to change up the menu. Highly highly recommend checking this place out. The restaurant is super clean and friendly ambiance. The staff are so so kind and the food was awesome. Stopped by Bluebird Haus Sushi in Long Beach the other day. It's a neighborhood spot with a relaxed vibe. We got the Mixed Tempura, Broadway Roll, Sashimi Assortment, and Unagi Don. The Unagi Don was probably my favorite overall, but the sashimi really stood out -- super fresh and the chunks were generous, some of the best I've had recently. Tempura and the Broadway Roll were solid too, well-prepared and satisfying. Service was friendly and the pace was easy, so it felt comfortable the whole time. Found a place with tons of vegan options for someone in our group. Service was excellent. I had the tuna stacked on seaweed salad with spicy mayo and wonton chips. Loved it. Came here on a Tuesday at 6:30pm. No line to order we sat down enough seating and clean. QR code for the menu and service was quick. They had a sign but one get other roll 50% off which was awesome. We ordered the Baked Salmon & Avocado Roll it was bomb definitely recommend! The Philadelphia Roll which was good a bit too much cream cheese but that my preference.
