Billy and I ended up at Oho Sushi Studio almost by accident after bailing on another dinner plan in Cerritos, and honestly, I'm glad it happened because this place has officially entered our regular rotation. What's funny is that we've both lived around Long Beach forever and somehow never fully connected with Oho despite hearing good things about it for years. We had randomly stopped in one afternoon recently thinking we'd just split a roll and head home, but the food ended up being so good that we kept ordering "one more thing" until we accidentally skipped dinner entirely later that night. That experience was good enough that when we found ourselves trying to figure out dinner again yesterday, Oho immediately came back into the conversation. We got there early evening and the timing was perfect. Busy enough to feel lively and like you were out for the night, but not so packed that service slowed down or the room became chaotic. The pacing of the meal was honestly one of the best parts. Dishes came out steadily without crowding the table, and everything felt very natural and relaxed. The tuna crispy rice was fantastic and a little different from the usual presentation. Perfect crisp on the outside, almost caramelized, with really airy spicy tuna on top that reminded me more of a tartare texture than the heavier versions you sometimes get elsewhere. We also had bluefin tuna, toro, salmon sashimi, a spicy scallop roll, and the Extreme Crunch Roll with light eel sauce, which ended up being surprisingly balanced and not over-the-top despite the name. Even the iced green tea stood out. Bright green, almost cloudy, super refreshing, and honestly exactly what I wanted with sushi. Service was excellent both visits. It felt very team-oriented behind the sushi bar and on the floor, which kept everything moving smoothly without feeling rushed. A couple practical notes: parking is easy overall, but the lot is shared with the motel, so just be mindful where you park and try to stay closer toward the restaurant side of the lot. Also, this feels much better suited for couples or small groups than large parties. Four people would be ideal. Six is probably pushing it unless the restaurant is unusually quiet. Really happy we gave this place another shot because it ended up being one of the more satisfying sushi dinners we've had in a while. read more

Was in the mood so I went by one of my go to's and I'm sad to say that the fish was a bit off today. Got hamachi sushi and a Dbl Tuna roll and the hamachi was fishy( never for this fish) and the roll had very little Tuna in it( it's DBL Tuna!). Now I will say that the New guy made it (first day) but that should not have mattered on the fish quality. Such a hidden gem. This restaurant shared the same parking with the motel. Upon arriving, I didn't think much of it. We were greeted right away. We were told that it was their last call. However, when we sat down they allowed us to take our time and even let us ordered more than once. We really wanted their salmon skin salad, but they ran out. We got the fire cracker instead. This turned out to be one of my favs. The tuna was super fresh and yummy. It was so flavorful. The chip was crispy. Everything on that big crispy wonton chip blended so well. We also got the baked mushrooms. I was expecting it to be bigger, but it came with several pieces instead. It was super hot. It was also very good. The yellow jalapeño carpaccio was fresh as well. Each slice was not too thick nor too thin. The tangerine roll was surprisingly yummy. There was no seaweed. They used a very thin layer of something in the inside. Kind of look like soy paper but not sure. Service was amazing. The people there were nice and friendly. We mentioned that we liked the ginger. The male server brought out more for us. The man is consistent and that's a big part of why this place has become one of our go to spots in Long Beach. We kicked things off with quail egg shooters total umami bombs and a fun way to start the meal. From there we dove into salmon sashimi and salmon belly sashimi and both were exactly how you want them buttery, fresh, and melt in your mouth good. No fishy taste, just clean, rich flavor. For a hot bite we ordered the baked green mussels, which were a great appetizer savory, creamy, and perfect to share. Then it was roll time. We split a Double Tuna roll and the chef's special the "Sammy Delight" both were delicious as always. My friend invited my wife and I here to celebrate his wife's birthday. It's next to a motel and shares the parking lot. It was Monday and parking was full so can't imagine the weekend! Every wall covered in beautiful murals of Japanese images. Every staff member was so friendly and made our group feel so welcome. I can see why they picked this place for a birthday celebration. What was a nice surprise is they had a happy hour price for a large variety of the menu. Everything was full sized too so you really get a good value. I must have missed my friend tell us we're going to share everything since I didn't have a clue. I ordered one roll, the 911 roll, for my entrée. All of a sudden half of it was gone since everybody was taking it off my plate. I was confused but just went with the flow. haha. The pieces I did get were very good and had a nice heat level. Luckily I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll which was good. The rest of the table had rainbow roll, Philly roll, kaarage, edamame, fried rice and my friend's kid got a mango roll that he loved so much he devoured two rolls. I guess I should have grabbed off their plates but I didn't so I was pretty hungry when we left. After we were done eating the lights went off in the restaurant. Then some house techno music started playing and a disco ball turned on. All the staff started clapping in unison along with all the customers after awhile. After awhile the staff came out and brought a birthday ice cream to my friend's wife. Then for what felt like eternity everybody continued clapped to the techno music while she laughed nervously. It was hilarious because it never seemed to end. It's like they wanted you to eat it while everybody cheers you on. Great Happy Hour 12pm-6pm on weekdays and 3pm-6pm on weekends. This place does handrolls so well! I got 4 different handrolls - Spicy Salmon, Spicy Yellowtail, Salmon Skin, and Spicy Tuna. They were all wonderful. My favorites are the Spicy Salmon and Salmon Skin. The Spicy Salmon handroll has very large pieces of salmon and is actually spicy. The Salmon Skin handroll is sooo crispy and fresh, loaded with salmon skin and not too much rice. I also think that the quality of their fish is great value for happy hour. Nigiri is $4.50 for 2 pieces. I got the yellowtail, which was very decadent and fresh. I think the only gripe I have is that their rice is not seasoned well. It is quite bland compared to other places where you can taste the rice vinegar. It is also a little but mushy, which lets down the integrity of the nigiri. However, the quality of fish is so great that I think it is still worth the happy hour price. Not on the happy hour menu, I ordered the squid legs, Tangerine Roll, and Escolar sushi. Squid legs were crispy and tender, not too tough or chewy at all. The escolar sushi was fantastic! It was slightly seared and tender. The Tangerine Roll was also wonderful. It is a soy-paper wrapped roll. I was worried it would be too sweet with the tangerine sauce, but it was perfectly balanced by the lemon slices and jalapeno. read more
