This place is amazing. It's a very small restaurant, so I recommend a reservation or at least joining the waitlist. We got misos (great price!), salmon collar (was a hit with the whole table including the kids), baked lobster roll (incredible, must get! Comes out on fire), and the TNT roll (spicy). The kids got California roll and California roll and the California roll especially was better than most sushi places. Everything was very fresh. We live far but next time we pass by the area we will definitely come back again.
We stopped by here to grab some sushi for late night. They were so nice we walked in and they sat us down and provided us with menu and waters. We had some sake and some sushi and some hand rolls. We were probably one of their last customers for the day and i honestly couldn't even tell that they were closing they didn't kick us out or anything matter a fact i lost track of time could have been the sake but the sushi was delicious i really appreciate them. I would definitely come back.
Delicious & perfect. This is exactly what I wanted. I don't remember the names of the items in the picture but it was all amazing. I will order again soon!
My friend and I were craving dressed up oysters and this place looked promising. We were mostly there for the oysters, but the sushi totally blew us away, too! It was a pretty traditional looking restaurant with tables and a sushi bar. We opted with the sushi bar and it was super nice that the sushi chef just presented his food directly to us. He was so nice and it was fun to see how proud he was of his work. I got some nigiri a la carte: hamachi toro, chu-toro, sea bream, and jumbo scallops. They were all huge and super fresh! The chu-toro practically melted in my mouth so I can't even imagine how amazing their o-toro would be. The scallops were apparently directly from Japan and were also incredible. We also got a dozen oysters and they were so good we ended up ordering another dozen. They were fat and juicy and a bit creamy with the perfect ratio of brine and sauce. Overall it was a great experience and is a great place for a high end meal!
This place is great for a variety of special rolls and good service. We had the spicy edamame and it was quite spicy rather than the mild kick! The lollipop roll was meh and hard to maintain its integrity. The sunshine roll was really good along with the rainbow roll. The sensual pleasure roll with scallop was decent. The service was great and the staff was very attentive. The shop was very lively and had good dinner vibes of loud but enjoyable. The parking is a bit tough if you can't find any on their lot.
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Solid value in downtown Long Beach. The hubby and I tried this place for lunch on a Saturday a few months ago. It seemed like it'd be better than the previous sushi place that used be there (which I don't think I ever tried), and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked it. We ordered; - Spicy edamame - freshly fried with good garlic--great flavors - sushi and sashimi combo (pretty presentation, came with soup and salad--a good value) - pan fried veggie noodles with tofu (very good, with generous portions--appreciated this veggie option) It's not super-fancy, but the food was good to great and reasonably priced. Service was good also. Would definitely check out again.
Wonderful date vibe! We came here as a party of two on a Friday night and were seated with menus right away. The menu is easy to follow and has a lot of the classic appetizers, hand rolls, nigiri options, and special rolls! Here, the prices are fair! We ordered the fatty tuna nigiri, Long Beach roll, sunshine roll, and spicy tuna crunch roll. The food all came out quickly and beautifully presented. The Long Beach roll had a great crunch from the asparagus and the yuzu really added to the flavor. The fatty tuna nigiri had fresh wasabi on top, which is a must!! I also appreciate that this restaurant has its own parking lot. It's easy to get to and you don't have to worry about your car while you eat.

I don't know if it was because of the weekend of the Grand Prix or whatever the situation may be we had to find parking on the street two blocks down. We sat at the bar and the sushi, chefs and server were nice. We ordered their spicy edamame which was loaded with flavor by far the best spicy edamame. I love the garlic and chili combos with a little citrus flavor. Also ordered the stinky roll, which is spicy tuna on the inside and salmon on the outside which I liked very much couldn't decide on a second roll so I asked the server to surprise us and kind of regret doing that because he had brought us a roll that I was already cringing at reading the description on the menu which was their long beach roll however, the crunch it had on the inside was very nice and not too heavy. I don't feel that asparagus should be anywhere near a sushi roll, but that was my bad. Also ordered their Yuzu cheesecake, which was a no for me. It was too strong and screaming Yuzu simialr to lemon zest and super tiny. The quality of the ingredients they use here are pretty good. I would come back to try other items, but I do not suggest getting their dessert or their long beach roll.
Visited: 11/8/25 Baked Lobster Roll: 9/10 ($16.95) Baked Scallop Roll: 10/10 ($16.95) Deep Fried Matcha Cake: 9/10 ($5.95) The interior is definitely on the smaller side, and because it's such a popular spot, we had to wait a bit before finding seats. Parking is also very limited! Make sure you're in the correct designated spaces since the lot is shared with another restaurant - Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. (I got a warning as I had made this mistake.) That said, the food absolutely made everything worth it. The décor is cozy with dim lighting, and the presentation was such a fun surprise. Our rolls were brought out on fire, which made for an incredible photo moment. The flame went out quickly, so it didn't feel unsafe at all, just super cool. Flavor-wise, everything was amazing. The rolls were warm, creamy, and so satisfying. The deep-fried matcha cake was the perfect sweet finish (lightly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and a great way to end the meal after all the savory dishes.)
Hubby & I were craving sushi & randomly found this place on Yelp. We came here for lunch couple of weekends ago. I was surprised how slow the business was for a Saturday. Ambiance was on the smaller side & isn't anything fancy but it was clean & cozy. There was only 1 server. She wasn't the friendliest but did her job well. She was attentive & did come by to check on us. As for the food, the menu is extensive with many different variety of nigiri, sushi rolls, sashimi plates, appetizers, À la carte, etc to choose from. We had the yellowtail carpaccio to start with & 9 pieces of nigiri each. Their fish was super fresh & the rice to fish ratio was perfect. Price point was fair to good. We don't live nearby but would come back again for sure if we're in the area. Would love to try their other items on the menu.
Wow, what an incredible disappointment This is the McDonald's of Long Beach sushi If you like loud sports TVs If you like loud rap, music blaring in the background with a sushi chef's singing along to the rap, If you like rolls that are very heavy on the fake crab and very heavy on the Americanized sweet drizzle You'll love this place . I grew up in Anchorage, where the Japanese restaurants are owned and run by the Japanese and their wives and children who created and served. Complex ingredient forward bites. My spider roll had virtually of no spider crab in it whatsoever. It was 80% fake crab. I'm used to a spider rill having a whole crab in there. Not a skinny leg hidden behind a scoop of fake crab. In my experience, a five star sushi restaurant makes this name by the artistic creation of balanced flavors that create an explosion of complexity in your mouth There's nothing complex whatsoever and any mouthful that I had. All the rolls were served in front of my face so I had a Service waitstaff armpit in my face every five minutes while I ate. How distasteful. Seriously. Classless. The house salad lacked the earthy flavors of most sushi restaurants. Once again, if you're an American, who loves sports TVs loud rap music rolls whose flavors are hidden in sweet syrup that are fake ingredient Forward, you'll love this place. Personally, I shall never return . Yelp steered me wrong. Sushi tempers here in Long Beach haven't had a real master spoil them. This is the McDonald's of Long Beach sushi
If craving sushi in Long Beach, stop here. The sushi bar was so cool. They styled it like a street side restaurant in Japan, complete with a roof overhang. Loved that vibe! April, our hostess and server hustled and was the sweetest. She was very attentive, friendly and fast! The sushi was great. ClassicLA style with that distinct flavor and great fish. We loved this meal and would no doubt eat here again if in the area.

Cozy spot for incredible sushi! I tried Golden Eye Snapper for the first time ever, and it might be one of my new favorites! The lightly torched skin gives each bite a nice, firm textural contrast against the delicate, tender meat. The yuzu garnish puts it over the top! My other favorites are Striped Jack and Hokkaido Scallop. My friend, who doesn't really like eating fish, loves their Double S Roll (tempura shrimp & fried scallops.) The service has been mostly wonderful. We did run into one hiccup when we found some hard, jagged black chunks in the Double S Roll that we couldn't eat. They looked and felt like metal or charred debris, but the staff insisted they were black sesame seeds. Otherwise, the staff has been upbeat and super friendly. If you're looking for your next unforgettable bite, do yourself a favor and order the Golden Eye Snapper! read more
While there's a cornucopia of sushi restaurants to visit in LB, I may have found the best one. I've been to several over the years, some multiple times, and Kimu's taste & presentation really stood out. They have a parking lot, which is a plus for this area because street parking is challenging. I ordered the Negi Toro Hand roll, Spicy Scallop Roll, and TNT Roll. The hand roll was elegant, fresh, and delicious. I loved the seaweed. The Spicy Scallop was my favorite because of the quality ingredients and value. It was definitely spicy. The TNT Roll was amazing, but I had to remove the Jalapeño due to it kicking my ass. I'll definitely return because I had an exciting experience. read more

I have never been to a restaurant so many times without getting tired of it. I've been eating at Kimu for years and I can confirm this is the best sushi restaurant in town by a landslide. The sashimi pieces are big, cold, and always fresh. I always order spicy edamame, gyoza, salmon sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, and miso soup. It's so delicious I crave it on a weekly basis. Come here! You won't regret it. The owner is often behind the sushi bar completing orders and is very kind and caring. The food is mouthwatering, the presentation is impeccable, and the price keeps me coming back! read more

Great sushi!! we had dinner with one of my good friends who now lives in LB and recommended this place. It was great! I prefer my Handrolls on a regular plate tho... but very pretty display. Rolls were great. I'd be back! Dining in is also really cute, the place is quaint and intimate. The staff is also so sweet and attentive! read more
The food is incredible here. And you know how I know that. I did not even need soy sauce. The fish is so fresh and deliciously flavored. The amberjack and uni were my favorite by far. The rolls are also so delicious. The salmon was on point and the service was great. Definitely coming back! read more

Woah. This place is amazing! Unassuming and far from pretentious in spite of having every reason to be. This food is original. The flavors are off the charts and menu is unique. I stumbled in for a late lunch on a trip to Long Beach and I was so glad I did. The server was cool, gracious and confident. He seated me at the bar with a good view of the sushi chef at work. The chef is crazy talented but humble and kind. If I lived in the area, I'd be eating here once a week -- minimum! read more

I was worried it was going to be stuffy because of the "must have reservations" rule but no, the staff here is so kind. Ambience: C. Very loud, we don't like the reservation rule. It should be first come first serve. We have been trying since valentines day to come here without a Rezzie and we finally gave in 6 months later and made one. read more

The sushi took a lil longer than expected but we were prob just hungry BUTTTTT the fish was super freshhhhh lurveee We also got the spicy edemame which was honestly probably one of the best i've had. I feel like i dined at a completely different sushi spot than my first visit here. We made reservations for noon, right when they opened to avoid the wait. During our previous visit, it was packed. However, it totally wasn't necessary on this visit. The restaurant never filled up. Service started out bad with the initial greeting, which was lacking. We ordered off the lunch special menu, which is a pretty good deal. I got the 9 pc Chef's Choice Sashimi which comes with 1 side, miso soup, and a salad. I chose the Vegetable Tempura as my side. From the lunch menu we all chose a specialty roll (Soft Shell Crab) and for the side we chose Spicy Tuna Roll. From the regular menu, we ordered the Lobster Bake Roll, and the Dragon Roll. The server brought out a Scallop Roll instead of the Lobster Roll that we ordered and admitted she had entered it incorrectly. She asked if we wanted that instead and of course we didn't. So, she took it away and waited for the correct roll to be made. Sadly the salads with the lunch menu specials arrived when we were pretty much done eating. The roll were just ok. The Dragon roll lacked eel and everyone was pretty much over every roll containing imitation crab. The atmosphere and lively energy was totally lacking. The Yelp sign on the table offering a dessert for what looked like a 5 star review was irritating. read more

No reason for Kimu Sushi to not always be packed with a queue. This has been our go to sushi spot in downtown since its opening last year. Food is fresh, comes quick. They take care to make every dish look and taste spectacular. Even the side salad is better than you'd get at 99% of other sushi restaurants. We always choose to sit at the bar. The chefs will hand the food strait to you so you don't even need to wait for the server. Pro tip - there is parking designated for the restaurant immediately behind. read more

had a wonderful dinner at Kimu Sushi in Long Beach! I ordered the Lobster Roll and the Stinky Roll, and both were absolutely delicious. The Lobster Roll was rich, buttery, and packed with real lobster flavor--definitely a standout. The Stinky Roll (don't let the name fool you!) was incredible--loaded with garlic and spicy tuna for the perfect savory kick. It had bold flavor without being overwhelming, and the textures were spot on. The service was friendly and attentive, and the vibe of the restaurant was casual but polished--great for a relaxed dinner. Everything tasted fresh, came out quickly, and was beautifully plated. I'll definitely be back to try more rolls. Highly recommend this spot if you're craving sushi in Long Beach! read more
This place has a great cozy dinner vibe! The service was great and we were greeted right when we entered the restaurant with smiles. We ordered the Sushi + Sashimi bowl which was around $45. It came with a refreshing salad and a comforting miso soup. The sashimi was super fresh and the cuts were generous. The sushi was well thought out and pairings of the flavors worked well. The spicy tuna hand roll was a good start to the meal, it was quite filled and left me wanting more. Must try: the yuzu cheesecake!! Huge fan of yuzu and it was bright and not too sweet. The restaurant has a really nice ambience, it gives a dark modern Japanese vibe and there's cherry blossoms decorating the dining area amongst the walls. Service was good, the waiter was friendly. The soft shell hand roll is served in a glass cup which was good at the beginning but it became quite salty at the end of the handroll because the sauce accumulated at the bottom. The dinner sashimi and sushi combo had great pieces of yellowtail. Some of the pieces of the sushi combo were misses (it's chef's choice) but I think getting the combo is still worth the bang for your buck because it was shared it between two people. You get a complementary dessert when you write a Yelp review. My table and I got the yuzu and matcha cheesecake which was phenomenal. I recommend coming here for a nicer dining experience for an affordable price. read more

This place is really delicious. My salmon avocado was so good. One thing I would change is less dressing in the house salad because it was covered and ended up having so much of the bottom of the bowl. The service was amazing and the place was packed. Will be packed. read more
Came back to try again and had such a good food experience. Everything tasted phenomenal. I got a little forgotten at the bar once but no biggie it happens. Staff was very nice. I ordered the cucumber salad, salmon belly nigiri, and Kimu Roll. Also had to get a hot sake. Delicious. Bathroom location is a little awkward because it's outside and behind the building. But on a brighter note, they have a small lot behind the holding as well for parking. read more

When you walk into the restaurant, you walk into the sushi bar into the left of the seating area. Lovely atmosphere. K-pop playing in the background and on the TV as well as sports on the other. The staff was very helpful and the service was excellent. The fish was fresh, and they have a lot of interesting rolls. My favorite was the crunchy spicy tuna roll. And they have very reasonably priced pitchers of beer. They have their own parking lot... get the extra star for that! read more

Cute place. It's quite busy, close to the terrace theatre in downtown LB. The prices are quite up there maybe because of cost in rents. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible. Fish ratio was on the slim side, but the rice to fish ratio was good since I hate heavy rice on fish. It was an overall delicious meal but nothing special or extravagantly amazing. read more
