You've katsu go to Te-Buru! I've been trying different spots in Bixby Knolls, and Te-Buru has to be one of my favorite so far. The menu had such a wide variety of Japanese cuisine, from sushi, to katsu, to donburi, there's something for everyone! Loved the modern clean vibes of the interior. They start you off with complimentary miso soup, which was full and rich (a bit salty for my liking but that's just me). We also ordered a plate of nigiri as our appetizer, and the fish quality was really fresh. I ordered the chicken katsu plate for myself, and my was it delicious. I've never tasted katsu so light even though it's typically fried, and love the sauce they paired the katsu with. It was almost like a mustard? But it wasn't too overpowering or anything. We finished the night with the tempura ice cream, and let me tell you, this is a MUST. I honestly just expected them to throw some panko on top of a scoop of ice cream, but Te-Buru's take is (somehow) baking a tempura crust right onto a giant scoop of ice cream and then cutting up the scoop into wedges. The ice cream surprisingly did not melt all that quickly either, and the matcha flavor was on point. Our servers were quick to meet our requests, nothing super outstanding but made the meal pretty seamless. Prices I think were pretty standard except for their sushi. Those are bit on the steeper side, but again, their fish quality is really good. For parking, they do have a small lot, but there's also street parking and parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. You'd be delulu not to try Te-Buru! read more

Finally tried this spot out last night, and it did not disappoint. Walked in and was surprised to see it almost empty. Entrance was a bit awkward as it was a tight squeeze between trying to get in as someone was paying for their to-go order. It was awkward because even though the staff saw us standing there, I felt like we weren't acknowledged until the lady walked out. No biggie. Small oversight. We were sat at a table and our server, same guy at the door who was handling the transaction, immediately brought us a water pitcher and two complimentary miso soups. I really appreciated that touch because not many places do that anymore, and it was perfect for the chilly evening. We asked for water cups, but he probably forgot. It wasn't very busy in there, but it looked like it was only him taking orders and serving. So my cousin took it upon himself to get them from another table. No biggie. The water was refreshing. The pitcher came infused with lemon and mint. A nice little touch. Onto the rolls, we split 3 rolls between the two of us: the Tuna Lover, The Crazy Roll and the Hawaiian. The tuna lover and crazy roll both come with spicy tuna inside, which I normally shy away from because I'm a baby. But our server said it was 5/10 spicy, so I figured I'd try them. They weren't too bad, but next time I'll stick to only one roll with spicy tuna. HAWAIIAN ROLL This was my and my cousin's favorite of the three. It comes with tempura asparagus & avocado inside and topped with tuna poke and avo. It was very fresh and the flavors melded together nicely. There was a chunk of tuna for every piece and plenty of avocado. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and did not overpower in flavor. TUNA LOVER This was our second favorite. It was a flavor bomb! From the spicy tuna inside, the smokiness of the seared tuna and sesame oil. We really enjoyed this one a lot, but the spicy tuna does pack a bit of heat... in a good way. CRAZY ROLL Ironically, we weren't crazy about this one. We were trying to decide between a regular crunch roll and this one (deep fried). We were recommended this one, and personally, not my cup of tea. It smelled and even tasted almost sweet. Not sure what they use to deep fry it, but my cousin said it almost reminded him of the taste of churros, so then I couldn't get that out of my mind haha. After 2-3 pieces I called it quits on that roll. I'll have to come back and try more of their fresh options, like their assorted sashimi or nigiri. It's a very cute vibe. Flowers on the table. Nice place for a date, too. The indie playlist they had playing was nice. Could be a tad bit louder... my Shazam couldn't quite pick up all the songs. This sushi spot is top notch. It's on the pricier side, but if you're looking for quality sushi, planning a date night, or trying to introduce someone to really good sushi, this is the place. My partner and I live nearby, so we come pretty often. Our usual order is the assorted nigiri, seared salmon carpaccio, blue toro carpaccio (more of a special occasion splurge), two orders of edamame because we refuse to share, and the salmon collar. The miso soup always hits and even the water tastes fresh. The space is small, so there can be a wait if you come on a busy time, but there are shops nearby to walk around while you wait. What a gem! I was in the area and yelped sushi restaurants--this one was nearby, so I rolled the dice and I'm so glad I did. It's a small restaurant with music playing and a great buzz--everyone was busy in the best way. The staff was incredibly attentive from start to finish. We asked the host for recommendations (nothing spicy), and we couldn't have been happier with what we ordered. You start with complimentary miso soup, which was a nice touch. Then we ordered the garlic albacore roll and the jungle fever roll--both were sooooo good. Truly unique and packed with flavor. The crunchy garlic adds just the right crunch without being overpowering....I couldn't get enough! I usually get bored when sushi is just a slight variation of a California roll, but these were anything but that. Really glad we have a great Japanese/sushi restaurant that isn't just casual in this area of Long Beach. It's a big bummer that the Greek cafe that was a staple here is gone, but this is still a great restaurant to have in its place! Came on a Saturday night and there was no wait (although it got a lot busier by the time we left). Ambience inside is really nice, which you wouldn't really be able to tell just driving past this place--there's a big projector screen playing sports. Water is lemon and herb infused, and you get free miso soup right off the bat as an appetizer. There's also a limited amount of seats at the sushi bar right in front of where they're making it. Also love that there's plenty of outdoor seating with heat lamps! The sashimi tasted pretty fresh and high quality and fresh and honestly the price was pretty reasonable as well. The menu is quite big and has a good amount of non-sushi choices for someone who doesn't like raw fish, if needed. Definitely want to come back and try their Katsu dishes. Food was prepared and ready quickly without sacrificing flavor and quality! Katsu is a must have and the uni is amazing. The okay has to be the Bixby. This is a cute little casual sushi place in Bixby Knolls. The staff is super welcoming as you walk in and are very attentive throughout your stay. A friend and I shared the 15 pc assorted sashimi board, edamame and a side salad that was big enough for two. We each also had a beer and I had a negitoro hand roll. Some friends and I stopped in for a nightcap. It happens to be first Friday which I was told it's like a street event. People out and about and restaurants participating. Basically a regular night except more people out and about enjoying themselves and some restaurants with music. Assuming... Anyways, they're open late so we just wanted to pop in for a beer. It actually took a while for someone to actually come greet us. We wanted to be outside but we were told that they were short staff. Ended up seating inside which was basically outside with the open air feel. It's a sushi restaurant, which the menu did look great. Ended up just stopping in for a beer which our friend told us they had a matcha beer. I personally don't like matcha but did have a little taste and it was quite nice. Very odd to have matcha and beer together but it did work. It just resembles green beer like it's Saint paddy's Day. With our beer, ended up getting some oysters and the sushi nachos. Presentation was both really nice. Oyster already had all the dressing on it so it was easy just to enjoy it as it was. The sushi nachos, with spicy tuna was great. All seasoned and mixed well with everything and served with wonton chips. Food was actually really good nice. Service was great even with short staff. Now the menu seems to have expanded and there are more choice offerings. In addition, the presentation is much nicer and portions bigger for a few items. This time around I ordered the Tokyo Hambagu and it was so good - that demi glace sauce though...yum. It's served with a small side of rice and a small salad. Always looking for a good sushi spot, we decided to try Te-Bura. It's located in Bixby Knolls, right next to Philz Coffee. They opened at noon on a Sunday and it appeared that we were the first to arrive. The host guided us to a small two top table, and when we asked for the booth in the corner, she pointed to another small two top. My face said it all, and she gave in and sat us in the booth. She brought a small pitcher of lemon flavored water and complimentary miso soup, which was appreciated. We ordered the baked scallop roll, soft shell crab roll, and the bixby no rice roll. I enjoyed the no rice roll with freshly prepared blue crab, salmon, and tuna, wrapped in soy paper. The baked scallop roll was my husband's favorite, and he found it to be super flavorful. I didn't care for the crispy rice edges and thought it should have had a more baked texture on top of the roll. Finally, the soft shell crab roll might have been better as an appetizer.
