You've katsu go to Te-Buru! I've been trying different spots in Bixby Knolls, and Te-Buru has to be one of my favorite so far. The menu had such a wide variety of Japanese cuisine, from sushi, to katsu, to donburi, there's something for everyone! Loved the modern clean vibes of the interior. They start you off with complimentary miso soup, which was full and rich (a bit salty for my liking but that's just me). We also ordered a plate of nigiri as our appetizer, and the fish quality was really fresh. I ordered the chicken katsu plate for myself, and my was it delicious. I've never tasted katsu so light even though it's typically fried, and love the sauce they paired the katsu with. It was almost like a mustard? But it wasn't too overpowering or anything. We finished the night with the tempura ice cream, and let me tell you, this is a MUST. I honestly just expected them to throw some panko on top of a scoop of ice cream, but Te-Buru's take is (somehow) baking a tempura crust right onto a giant scoop of ice cream and then cutting up the scoop into wedges. The ice cream surprisingly did not melt all that quickly either, and the matcha flavor was on point. Our servers were quick to meet our requests, nothing super outstanding but made the meal pretty seamless. Prices I think were pretty standard except for their sushi. Those are bit on the steeper side, but again, their fish quality is really good. For parking, they do have a small lot, but there's also street parking and parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. You'd be delulu not to try Te-Buru!
Finally tried this spot out last night, and it did not disappoint. Walked in and was surprised to see it almost empty. Entrance was a bit awkward as it was a tight squeeze between trying to get in as someone was paying for their to-go order. It was awkward because even though the staff saw us standing there, I felt like we weren't acknowledged until the lady walked out. No biggie. Small oversight. We were sat at a table and our server, same guy at the door who was handling the transaction, immediately brought us a water pitcher and two complimentary miso soups. I really appreciated that touch because not many places do that anymore, and it was perfect for the chilly evening. We asked for water cups, but he probably forgot. It wasn't very busy in there, but it looked like it was only him taking orders and serving. So my cousin took it upon himself to get them from another table. No biggie. The water was refreshing. The pitcher came infused with lemon and mint. A nice little touch. Onto the rolls, we split 3 rolls between the two of us: the Tuna Lover, The Crazy Roll and the Hawaiian. The tuna lover and crazy roll both come with spicy tuna inside, which I normally shy away from because I'm a baby. But our server said it was 5/10 spicy, so I figured I'd try them. They weren't too bad, but next time I'll stick to only one roll with spicy tuna. HAWAIIAN ROLL This was my and my cousin's favorite of the three. It comes with tempura asparagus & avocado inside and topped with tuna poke and avo. It was very fresh and the flavors melded together nicely. There was a chunk of tuna for every piece and plenty of avocado. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and did not overpower in flavor. TUNA LOVER This was our second favorite. It was a flavor bomb! From the spicy tuna inside, the smokiness of the seared tuna and sesame oil. We really enjoyed this one a lot, but the spicy tuna does pack a bit of heat... in a good way. CRAZY ROLL Ironically, we weren't crazy about this one. We were trying to decide between a regular crunch roll and this one (deep fried). We were recommended this one, and personally, not my cup of tea. It smelled and even tasted almost sweet. Not sure what they use to deep fry it, but my cousin said it almost reminded him of the taste of churros, so then I couldn't get that out of my mind haha. After 2-3 pieces I called it quits on that roll. I'll have to come back and try more of their fresh options, like their assorted sashimi or nigiri. It's a very cute vibe. Flowers on the table. Nice place for a date, too. The indie playlist they had playing was nice. Could be a tad bit louder... my Shazam couldn't quite pick up all the songs. Other than that, only thing left to note is that their restroom is out back, but it is nicely stocked and clean.
LOVE TE-BURU !! this is the best sushi in LBC and this place is filled with romantic vibes, perfect for a date night. i've been here with my hubby countless times before, and it just keeps getting better ! we were first greeted at the door and each got served a warm cup of miso soup. the rolls never disappoint and they are all good. our favorite is the jungle fever. the basil makes the roll aromatic and earthy. the lemon pepper roll is also good with the sear on top. this time we decided to try the sashimi salad. there is the perfect amount of fish and they are cut into chunks. the dressing on top tastes like mustard seed (?) nonetheless it pairs well with the salad. our forever go-to sushi spot in long beach !! :3
Came here 45 minutes before close and felt so so bad but the food quality and service was still so good! Everything was fresh and the whole restaurant was super clean. It had a cute open garage side and the lighting for all the dishes at night were so perfect. Got the uni pasta and the size was so generous and it was so creamy. The katsu was so crispy and thin it was soooo good. I loved the complimentary miso soup and im super picky about my miso soup! It was the perfect savory miso flavor i crave. Loved this place for sure coming back.
What a gem! I was in the area and yelped sushi restaurants--this one was nearby, so I rolled the dice and I'm so glad I did. It's a small restaurant with music playing and a great buzz--everyone was busy in the best way. The staff was incredibly attentive from start to finish. We asked the host for recommendations (nothing spicy), and we couldn't have been happier with what we ordered. You start with complimentary miso soup, which was a nice touch. Then we ordered the garlic albacore roll and the jungle fever roll--both were sooooo good. Truly unique and packed with flavor. The crunchy garlic adds just the right crunch without being overpowering....I couldn't get enough! I usually get bored when sushi is just a slight variation of a California roll, but these were anything but that. We also tried a Korean peach-flavored wine--on the sweeter side, but absolutely delicious. Our server was beyond sweet. She noticed my mom's purse on the floor, picked it up (no bad luck!), placed it on her chair, and even spent a few moments chatting with her. Such thoughtful service. Can't wait to come back--highly recommend!
So happy to have found such an amazing spot while visiting Long Beach! We showed up right when they opened and they immediately seated us, asked if there were any dietary restrictions, and gave us time to enjoy their miso soup! I ordered their pork tonkatsu while my partner ordered the crunch roll and the tempura udon. The tonkatsu had two pork filets perfectly fried with the crispiest breading I've had, super savory salad, and a bowl of rice! For its price, it comes with a lot of food and kept me full for the rest of the day! The crunch roll was also nicely prepared and tasted incredible! If you're ever in Long Beach, you need to try this spot!
Came here with two of my college friends to catch up over dinner since we were in the area and craving sushi. This spot had good ratings and wasn't too far, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded, and the overall vibe was casual and comfortable -- good for hanging out and chatting. I ordered the chicken katsu, which was pretty solid. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and came with a good portion of rice and sides. My friends ordered a few sushi rolls, and everything looked fresh and well-prepared. We also shared a bottle of soju, which made for a fun, relaxed meal overall. Service was straightforward -- our waiter was friendly, checked in a few times, and everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. Nothing particularly stood out, but no complaints either. Overall, a good experience with tasty food and fair pricing. Definitely a nice spot to grab sushi or Japanese comfort food with friends if you're in the Long Beach area.
I really enjoyed the ambiance of this sushi spot. We came in for dinner on Easter and the food and service did not disappoint! Servers were very attentive. Prices for food and drinks were very reasonable. We ordered baked salmon ( a dish i always order at all sushi spots). Okonomiyaki? Sp? And a few dishes togo for kids at home. I will definitely revisit. Cute spot for a date night or family dinner. Overall I was pleasantly surprised.
My second time to Te-Buru was just as wonderful as the first. Service was top-tier, lovely seating, and infused water. They have the best Miso Soup I've tried and it was not salty. I ordered Scallop Carpaccio, Hot Night Roll, and Mango Tango Roll. Everything was fresh, delicate, precise, refreshing, and delicious. The rolls were so fat and satisfying that I was unable to finish following the carpaccio.
The chicken katsu here is amazing!! The prices are very good for the portion size, chicken is crunchy but not overly breaded. Service was very good, waiters were very attentive. The restaurant has very nice decorations and is also very clean. Will be back :)
We love this neighborhood sushi restaurant. Fresh fish, beautiful presentation, huge portions and friendly staff! Indoor and outdoor seating. Always hits the spot! We are regulars.
Really glad we have a great Japanese/sushi restaurant that isn't just casual in this area of Long Beach. It's a big bummer that the Greek cafe that was a staple here is gone, but this is still a great restaurant to have in its place! Came on a Saturday night and there was no wait (although it got a lot busier by the time we left). Ambience inside is really nice, which you wouldn't really be able to tell just driving past this place--there's a big projector screen playing sports. Water is lemon and herb infused, and you get free miso soup right off the bat as an appetizer. There's also a limited amount of seats at the sushi bar right in front of where they're making it. Also love that there's plenty of outdoor seating with heat lamps! The sashimi tasted pretty fresh and high quality and fresh and honestly the price was pretty reasonable as well. The menu is quite big and has a good amount of non-sushi choices for someone who doesn't like raw fish, if needed. Definitely want to come back and try their Katsu dishes. Would definitely be back if I wanted some sushi or Japanese food and wanted something more upscale than just casual dining. Highly recommend!
Been wanting to try for a while and so glad I finally did! Bowls, salad, and gyoza were super yummy! Staff was super attentive and kind. Kitchen staff is ON IT, food came out perfectly spaced out. Yummy wine and beer too.
Tried out this place during first Fridays at Bixby Knolls. It's a smaller restaurant so it got packed very quick. They also have outdoor seating. Inside was cute and cozy. They have a big screen to watch games. The staff were all very nice and service was quick. I was actually surprised that the katsu came out before the roll. The Tokyo Hambagu was a massive portion (came with 2 thick patties). The katsu was so soft and perfectly crisped. The wow roll was also really good with the fried onions on top. It can get a bit pricey but I think it's worth the try! read more
went in to get take out but decided to dine in. lunch time is such a nice time to come in. very peaceful, nice music & great natural lighting. two days ago they started us off with miso soup as soon as we sat and we ordered some of our favorites from the place yellow tail cilantro w serrano for one roll and the crunchy roll for the other. along with some shishito peppers. finished it off with some desert - tempura ice cream. it's huge! had to take it home. it was soo good. (not pictured) today we went back for the yellowtail carpaccio, poke nachos, crunch roll & shishito peppers. all really good. (also, notable dish is the tokyo hambagu) i usually get that but ill get it again soon. service was excellent. thanks to the te-buru staff (two gentlemen) working lunch shift two days ago and for today the lady whom took our order. special thanks to the kitchen staff, always killing it back there read more

This sushi spot is top notch. It's on the pricier side, but if you're looking for quality sushi, planning a date night, or trying to introduce someone to really good sushi, this is the place. My partner and I live nearby, so we come pretty often. Our usual order is the assorted nigiri, seared salmon carpaccio, blue toro carpaccio (more of a special occasion splurge), two orders of edamame because we refuse to share, and the salmon collar. The miso soup always hits and even the water tastes fresh. The space is small, so there can be a wait if you come on a busy time, but there are shops nearby to walk around while you wait. There's also parking inside the plaza plus street parking nearby. read more

The chicken katsu here is amazing!! The prices are very good for the portion size, chicken is crunchy but not overly breaded. Service was very good, waiters were very attentive. The restaurant has very nice decorations and is also very clean. Will be back :) read more

Our server was very fast, nice and hospitable (didn't get her name but she was a lady wearing all black). She checked up on us frequently and even fixed up our table as we took pictures of our food. The restaurant itself was clean, well decorated and felt intimate. The food was great. The fish on the assorted nigiri tasted fresh and were good sizes. The soft shell crab tempura were nicely sized also, exceeded expectations. Oysters are always good. Fresh and seasoned well. Unagi bowl came with so many things, definitely gonna come back for it again. Great experience overall! read more

After an awful experience at Juicy Dumpling, we had to find something good. The A-hah! Service is on point and they were very tentative. Food was prepared and ready quickly without sacrificing flavor and quality! Katsu is a must have and the uni is amazing. The okay has to be the Bixby. Don't get me wrong, all of the fish is super fresh and amazing, but Bixby needs texture, maybe some crunch. The shut up has to be the cilantro in the Salmon lovers. Cilantro took away from how good the salmon was. I'm going to have to order this one without cilantro next time. read more
This is a cute little casual sushi place in Bixby Knolls. The staff is super welcoming as you walk in and are very attentive throughout your stay. A friend and I shared the 15 pc assorted sashimi board, edamame and a side salad that was big enough for two. We each also had a beer and I had a negitoro hand roll. All was under $90, which I think is pretty reasonable. Everything was super fresh and the beer was nice and cold. Pros: *You get miso soup and a jug of water for the table as soon as you are seated. *Convenient parking *Outside seating w heaters available Cons: *We felt like we were being rushed to order when we arrived. We were approached every 2 minutes to see if we were ready, when we were not. They ended up getting the point, but it was a bit frustrating at first. *Restrooms are outside of the restaurant. Overall, although, it did not become my new favorite sushi place in Long Beach, I would love to go back and try more of the sushi and rolls. read more

Te-Buru has some of the best sushi in Long Beach. Their scallop and toro nigiri were our favorite bites of the night; however, all of the rolls that we had were flavor bombs as well. Not only did they taste good, but they gave solid quantity for their price. I'm glad that we have a local option with very good quality sushi! read more
Some friends and I stopped in for a nightcap. It happens to be first Friday which I was told it's like a street event. People out and about and restaurants participating. Basically a regular night except more people out and about enjoying themselves and some restaurants with music. Assuming... Anyways, they're open late so we just wanted to pop in for a beer. It actually took a while for someone to actually come greet us. We wanted to be outside but we were told that they were short staff. Ended up seating inside which was basically outside with the open air feel. It's a sushi restaurant, which the menu did look great. Ended up just stopping in for a beer which our friend told us they had a matcha beer. I personally don't like matcha but did have a little taste and it was quite nice. Very odd to have matcha and beer together but it did work. It just resembles green beer like it's Saint paddy's Day. With our beer, ended up getting some oysters and the sushi nachos. Presentation was both really nice. Oyster already had all the dressing on it so it was easy just to enjoy it as it was. The sushi nachos, with spicy tuna was great. All seasoned and mixed well with everything and served with wonton chips. Food was actually really good nice. Service was great even with short staff. It's a nice cool spot with both inside and a nice patio. Also, matcha beer was quite good. read more

Since my first visit a year ago, it seems that Tebu-ru has elevated their menu. While the food was always good, the menu was small and didn't seem to be fully realized yet. Now the menu seems to have expanded and there are more choice offerings. In addition, the presentation is much nicer and portions bigger for a few items. This time around I ordered the Tokyo Hambagu and it was so good - that demi glace sauce though...yum. It's served with a small side of rice and a small salad. The hamachi carpaccio (not pictured) was also very good. I love the fresh red onion slivers with the sauce. Request jalapeños on top. The service there is always great. I've only ever ordered take out for this place bc they're the only sushi place open late at night but O M G every single time i order, its soooooooo good. We were greeted and got seated right away on a weekday night. I think their single table top for 2 ppl is quite small, so my boyfriend and I opted for the booth seating in the corner of the restaurant. They start you off with a warm bowl of miso soup and some lemon and herb infused water jugs. We loved this because we hate waiting for our water to be refilled. Already off on the right foot! We ordered 3 rolls: * Golden Tiger A roll of shrimp, imitation crab mix, avo, cream cheese, and spicy crab all battered in tempura and deep fried. Oh my god 10/10 * Philadelphia Roll At first, I was confused about why a humble philly roll would have such a hefty price tag... but then I saw that they put salmon inside AND outside of the roll. It was so beautiful! 10/10. Honestly, most anything with cream cheese is a 10/10 in my book :) * Yellowtail Cilantro This was so clean tasting and cirtrusy! It was a welcomed palate cleanser from all the heavier ingredients in the first 2 rolls. The little bite of Serrano pepper with sriracha was wonderful. 7/10 Overall, we were pleased with our visit to Te-buru. Would definitely visit again to try more items on their menu. read more
Updating with the great food! This place is a solid... 4.5 still if I could give half stars. Only reason being is that if I didn't have the time, service isn't incredible. It's always been extremely nice and welcoming. But they don't do the best with customer attentiveness and interaction. Still a great spot for sushi! read more
Our waitress was very attentive and even offered more ginger which I LOVE! Our favorites were garlic albacore roll which came with fried garlic on top that elevated the flavor, as well as jungle fever roll which had truffle in it. Came here for the first time for dinner, we got here at 7:30pm and waited for 30min. We over-ordered lol but we recommended the sushi nacho, crispy rice with spicy tuna and the premium sashimi and nigiri especially the salmon and scallop. The staff were nice and attentive. There is parking lot but it gets full, there is street parking but we parked in the neighborhood. Will definitely come back again. read more
