ONE star minuses due to an extra charge that I just saw. I only ordered 1 tempura mix and a tempura shrimp. They charged an extra $15 plus $20. It should have been either or Brenda M was terrific. She was patient with us. This was our first time at this establishment. The food was good. The drinks were delicious. We sat outside. Glad we did because it felt a bit smoky when we went inside to the restrooms. The outside is clean and restrooms and restaurant is clean. We were celebrating my dad's happy heavenly 70th (rest his soul) birthday. The restaurant was so awesome. They celebrated with us with a soju shot. Such a nice touch. What we ordered 5 Sunomono Margarita 1 Tempura Mix $15 3 Lychee Pear Martini 1 Rising Sun 6 Toki-0 Old Fashioned 1 Tempura Mix $15 1 order of Just Shrimp Tempura $20 1 Yuzu Pineapple Express 1 Green Geisha 1 King Salmon Cut Roll $11

I'm sure many ppl made the same pun already but... omg this place was SOSOGUUUUD!!!! First time there and I can't wait to go back and try other things! Here are the cocktails we ordered: - Rising Sun 5/5 I like sweet cocktails in general, but also not too sweet either. That one had the perfect balance for me - Chai Tea Old Fashioned 4/5 you can't really taste the chai tea but overall, a solid cocktail. It's strong, I'd recommend it to Old Fashioned lovers - Martini 3/5 nothing against it, just personal preference. I'm not too much into Martinis myself As for food: - Spicy edamame 5/5 oh that one has a little kick but so worth it - Toro crispy rice 5/5 tasty but it only came with 4 small pieces - Premier set for 2 with yuzu butter shrimp, filet mignon medallions, short ribs, spicy pork, pork belly, everything was yummy! Also loved the sides: cabbage salad, crispy tofu, spicy cucumbers (that one in particular was delicious!!!), garlic noodles and shoyu clear soup (my friends thought it was too mushroomy but I liked it). - Yuzu Cheesecake 4/5 I love Yuzu so I really wanted to try that cheesecake. It was good but nothing out of the ordinary, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it Service was impeccable, loved their vibey playlist (we tried Shazaming some of the soundtracks lol) and we came here on a Saturday at 530-6pm without a reservation. We got sat right away! Parking was also easy to find at that time.

Parking is in a shared lot, located near the Hangar. Often times there is a mini market just outside so the parking spots are full in the front. This restaurant is clean and very spacious. They have an outdoor patio and interior is very modern. You have a choice to choose to eat sushi, grilled bbq, or both. If you choose to eat only sushi, there is a specific table to dine on. Our server was very friendly and gave us a breakdown of how the menu works. We got the wagyu platter. They also allowed us to swap a protein for something similar. For about $40, it came with a bowl of rice, cabbage salad, soup, and about 3 slices of each protein. They have fire suppression on each of the grilling tables which i thought was great because in case of an emergency, it can put it out quickly. The grill isnt used with flames, rather a heating bulb. It grilled our meat fast and very limited smoke. It also cooked the meat more evenly. This is definitely a place that can be eaten, enjoyed, and finished within a Lunch break for work. Im so glad I dont work nearby because id go broke! We will be back.

3.5 stars rounded up. Great deals especially as they seem to be trying to encourage diners to come in. The sushi selection isn't really traditional but what I had was tasty. I'd want to come try their bbq options as well.

From the ambiance to the service, drinks and tasty food -- this restaurant makes for a great, romantic date spot that will impress! Even on a rainy day, this restaurant was packed. Everyone was so nice and really made our experience so fun and enjoyable! The quality of the dishes really stood out from the signature rolls to the Japanese bbq cuts. We tried the Filet Mignon Tataki, Tempura Lobster roll, Japanese bbq cuts- Beef Tongue, Waygu Hanger Steak and the Wagyu Ribeye Cap! The Japanese bbq cuts were grilled on a flame that gave it its signature char. All were delicious. The Tempura Lobster roll had large chunks of lobster over deep fried in tempura over crab rolls (not imitation crab) which I loved! All of our choices were delicious. The standout was definitely the Filet Mignon Tataki which was cooked perfectly and paired with a fried onion topping and ponzu sauce. My husband loved the ribeye cap and I loved the hangar steak, but the tongue also hit the spot, too. I definitely can't wait to come back to try some of their other sushi and appetizers like the garlic noodles, chicken wings and their scallops carpaccio and mandarin appetizer. The cocktails were unique! I loved the Green Geisha tasted great and for a strong kick, the Chai Tea Manhattan was a fun pick. It had a cayenne kick which I didn't expect but enjoyed. I talked to the manager and the concept of this cocktail was meant to embrace the fall vibes and transport you to sitting around a camp fire with friends and family. Thank you to the manager on site, David, our hostess Katie, and our servers Kayanna and Brenda whose energy were so vibrant! They had great recommendations and honestly had such good vibes which makes a huge difference in your dining experience. Their vibes really set the tone for our experience. Located in the Long Beach Exchange, Sosogu has a beautiful indoor and outdoor area. Parking was easy as there is a large parking lot. Definitely check this restaurant out!!

Went for early dinner for our anniversary. Parking was busy and we went to the lot by the old OSH. It's busy in their lot from the three fitness studios around Sosogu. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes before we were sat. Restaurant was not busy, about 40% occupied. This restaurant has teppanyaki service so they had seating with barbecue grills on it. The host chose to seat us at a table. To note, if you are sat against the wall, there is hardly any leg space as the table is attached to the floor. Our server was super nice and as she took our ordered, she offered to start us off with the house sake for our anniversary. We started with the Nagoya Wings and the Scallop carpaccio and my husband had a beer and myself the Yuzu Pineapple express. My cocktail was on the sweet side and tasted like candy. The chicken came perfectly fried and juicy and the Jidori sauce was delicious. The carpaccio -mandarin slices decorating thenplate looked sad and the amount of scallop slices hardly amounted to even half a scallop. Also maybe it was a bad season for scallops because if not for the mandarins and the vinaigrette, the carpaccio was flavourless. As I am posting these and looking at our photos, we also ordered the Spicy Cucumber. I did not remember we ordered it which speaks to the flavour or lack thereof of this appetizer. We went ahead and ordered the Premier Sashimi Set. We were craving for proper sushi and we were hoping we got it. The carpaccio should've indicated what was coming but decided that maybe it was just that one dish that didn't make the cut. The Sashimi Set was delivered to a the table by another person (not our server) and couldn't even remember and get the fish straight. The Hokkaido scallop on this set was SO fishy tasting I made my husband eat the rest. The rest of the fish were only delicious when dipped in their "yummu ponzu" sauce. The sauce added flavour and masked the old fish taste. Toro and Hamachi which are usually rich (toro) and sweet (hamachi) were just ok. I noticed most people ordered cooked food st this place so maybe they are known for that versus the sushi. I was put off from sushi for awhile after this and for what we paid for, I'll stick to proper Japanese in Costa Mesa and Torrance.

Nice vibes overall -- great ambiance, chill music, and comfy chairs. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was on the slower side, but there was only one bartender, so it's understandable. It also feels like they're still working out some of the operational kinks. I ordered the Toki-O Old Fashioned during happy hour and highly recommend it -- really well made. We also tried the chicken sandwich, which was very filling and definitely big enough to split if you're ordering multiple items to share. Next was the spicy albacore cut roll, which comes with three different sauces in the side (regular soy sauce, garlic, and a spicy ponzu) -- a nice touch and fun to try. We ended with the garlic noodles; the flavor was good, but they could've used another minute or so of cooking as they were a bit chewy. Solid potential here, just needs smoother service and a little more consistency.

Toro hand roll

My coworker and I came here for lunch since the Hangar was packed and we decided to try this new spot because we both love sushi. We both ordered the Soso Guud since we were pretty hungry. Here's what it came with: Edamame - simple, steamed and lightly salted. Bluefin tuna sashimi - tasty, especially with the ponzu sauce. Albacore & Salmon nigiri - not great. The fish was tough and grisly, the rice fell apart as soon as I picked it up and the albacore had a slight fishy smell that made me question its freshness. Hamachi & Seabream nigiri - definitely better than the albacore and salmon but the rice consistency was still an issue. Toro hand roll & Blue crab hand roll - loved both of these. They were flavorful and delicious. Service from the kitchen was extremely slow, which was surprising since we only ordered sushi and there were just two other tables with customers at the time. That said, our server was wonderful and apologetic about the long wait. Overall, this place is a 2-star spot for me. I wouldn't come back for sushi but I'd consider returning just for the hand rolls.

Great spot! Ordered the crispy rice, Hokkaido scallops, soso guud, sake flight, shiso fine, and a couple beers. Soso guud and the Hokkaido came out at a good pace, rice is well seasoned and the fish is fresh and went very well with the sake flight. With my beers the crispy rice was great, I got it with the caviar per the waitress's recommendation and it was spot on. Lastly I finished off my dinner with the shiso fine and it was a great way to end the work day. Service was great, Simone was attentive but not overwhelming, I was able to take a couple work calls and get work done while still feeling like she was checking on me and made she I was okay--whole reason I kept ordering more. If you want a nice modern spot for date night, dinner with clients (which I seen a lot of), or do what I did and have a solo dinner, this is a great spot.

Spicy Tuna Crunch

If I had to sum up Sosogu, I would say it would be a place I would love to have near me. It was a lot going for it like plenty of tables, not too loud or crowded, great service and solid food. We started with the shishito peppers, edamame and spicy tuna crunch. All three were executed perfectly. I could've eaten the entire plate of spicy tuna crunch. Also the spicy edamame was fantastic and addicting. We couldn't get enough of it. On to the rest of the meal. We ordered a BBQ set for two that we split amongst three people. Honestly, it was really affordable for the amount of food. Soup, noodles, salad, cucumbers, kimchi and a healthy amount of beef, pork and shrimp. The quality of the items we grilled were good, but possibly could've been a tad better but overall an enjoyable meal. I will certainly be back to try more next time.

If you can't decide between BBQ and sushi, then this is the place for you! Sosogu is serving up fresh sushi and tender plates of Japanese BBQ. We started off with their Nagoya style wings which were crispy and sweet, along with some edamame. Then we got their beef tongue and ribeye, along with their sosogud sushi set. The meat plates were a bit small, so I recommended getting 3-4 plates to share between two people, or get one of their sets. Their cocktail, beer, and drink list have great variety to pair with your meal, and overall it was a delicious time!

Came by on a Friday night. The restaurant is right next to Ra Yoga by the hangar at LBX and had both indoor and outdoor seatings. We got seated pretty quickly without reservation at around 8:30pm. Service was overall pretty good. For food, the two of us ordered the SASHIMI SET (Bluefintuna, Salmon, Albacore, and Hamachi) and wagyu set (with Yuzu Butter Shrimp, Japanese A5 Wagyu NY Strip Loin, Japanese A5 Wagyu Rib Cap American Wagyu Brisket, Beef Tongue, American Wagyu Hanger Steak, and American Wagyu Flat Iron Steak). I also tried their rising sun, which was tasty. Overall the food was fresh and descent but not sure if it was worth the price. Like, it was good but I've definitely had better lol. Anyways, I think it's a good spot to hangout and get Japanese bbq, as the place is quite spacious with nice decors.

The Wicked Wolf is a kind of place that offers the opportunity for whimsical mischief. For…read moreinstance, they have a rooftop area. And this one time I was there alone with another, no other patrons just staff members walking around from time to time. We stole the moment to dance under the Long Beach sky, just the two of us as a famous Christina Perrio song gently wafted in the night breeze. At another separate time, I was at the Los Angeles County Fair with another. We rode the ferris wheel at such a time where our gondola stopped at the top just as the sun set. The moment was nothing but beautiful and life affirming because the sinking of the sun's light was like a real life video of nature happening in front of us, unburdened by static or data stall. We witnessed nature resting, and I feel, that it was a kin to a beauty falling into a gentle sleep. These two instances have a common factor: momentary bliss arrived to bless an experience because the environment supported discovery of unplanned joy. That is what I associate with the Wicked Wolf, and this time the joy arrived eventually because when my Mom and I arrived to their high tea on Mother's Day the experienced seem like it would land nowhere good. Truth be told, my mom and I arrived 15 minutes early and there was no host in the stand and the place was empty except for a foursome. The energy felt lacked luster. One or two minutes after, the bartender informed us that we were early and the host would come soon. We sat in an available sofa for two, a loveseat persay. This gave us an opportunity to admire the decor that transported us to a storybook forest where good fairies reside, not like swamp creatures and trolls with malevolent fangs and dragon green eyes. I especially loved the large roses in the ceiling. To set the stage, the black ceiling had vines hanging from it, and the few roses were pops of crimson red displayed above. These were wonderful accents to the central mural of the joint that invited the viewer within deeper into the fairy forest where a light shone on an unseen meadow. The place had the decorations and general environment to be a lavender fairy's lounge, but, it did not fully work as a team room. For instance, my mom and I were sat in another lover's couch. Initially, I did not want to sit here because we were given circular tray sets. So imagine being told to sit in a couch, and each of us would get a tv tray. So I was left to wonder if we were going to be served tea in Belle's living room or if were going to watch a flick as we ate pollo loco bowl? But then as I settled into the tranquility of the moment, saw more people come and find their seat or couch, and as the serviced picked-up I realized that this was high tea in a place that had taken disjointed beauty and tackied it together for a patched tea experience that worked well. It was like the experienced was blessed and allowed by the same spirit that brought forth Raggedy Ann. For instance, the pictures show these pretty violet petaled tea cups and matching plates. This pairing was dainty and perfect for a tea party happening under pink veils. But then the sugar cubes came in a hedgehog shaped holder which was just as precious as seeing a piglet in a carriage built for one. Then the cream carrier was in the shape of a milk carton. I wondered where the missing child portrait was? The pastry plate was in the shape of a tropical flower like the ones scattered all over Hawaii. It belonged in a beautiful lei. Each of these elements was cute in its own delicate and whimsical way but together they made an eclectic hodgepodge, not a coherent tea set. And in this asymmetry laid the glitter of their error. The host also brought these clip on dainty hats that were perfect touches for make believe tea party. He carried them around in their original packing, including the box they came in. Not exactly the tailor of the queen, offering hats to the villagers as a gift from her to them, but still the effort magnified the moment. The tea food was the worst stumble that Red took as she was being chased by the Wicked Wolf. To begin with the end analysis, the tea offerings in general were standard, and not bites fit for a princess and her wedding court. For instance, the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich was just that---- a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. I detected no effort to make it more than that. The blueberry scone was solid, nothing to skip through a meadow about. But once you added the jam of the table to the scone it was much easier to enjoy. I also had a madeline that was fluffy in the center but could have been purchased maybe at Costco. I had a Macaron and same thing, delicious but I have had something similar before and I suspected that it did not come from a place afloat with Parisian affairs. The best part of the tiers was this puff like thing that had like a Concha texture and design at the top. It was a sweet filled bite that was fit for a man made of muffin.

I was really excited to visit this bar--I've always been a huge fan of fairy tales and thought the…read moretheme was such a fun concept for a bar. When we got there, I felt that the decorations and drinks felt a bit gimmicky, with random fairy tale-esque elements like a throne and massive red roses. I thought it would have been very cool to see Easter eggs and more intentionality bringing the atmosphere together. Since it was an hour before closing, we didn't plan to stay very long. The two people working at the bar were both unwelcoming and seemed upset that we were there (there were other people at the bar, including people who arrived later in the night than us). We paid for our drinks, which cost over $40 for 2 drinks with tip. My cocktail was $17 and came in a glass barely bigger than a shot glass. We left around the time they were calling for last call. I can understand not wanting stragglers who prevent the bartenders from closing late, but I would have much preferred being turned away at the door rather than paying and tipping for an overall unpleasant experience.

Attentive, sharp memory, and smooth service all the way through. Zero notes. FOOD The menu is small, so if you show up ravenous, pace yourself or plan to Uber home after a cocktail‑heavy evening. Alter Ego gets a double thumbs‑up from me and a strong recommendation for your next Silver Singles date. False Advertising and Total Failure of a "Speakeasy"…read more This place should not call itself a speakeasy. According to their website, they are strict about dress code, reservations, and no large parties. None of that was enforced. People arrived wearing sports clothes, tennis shoes, and flip-flops, and a group of more than 10 people was allowed in. That group was loud, drunk, and screaming, completely destroying any speakeasy ambiance. We had a reservation booked one week in advance for 2 tables of six, yet by 8:30 pm, we were told no food was available, despite the bar being almost empty. The water was already on the table when we arrived and tasted strongly of chlorine, with no ice. The waitress was clearly new, untrained, and unprepared. She did not know the menu, didn't know how to take an order properly, and provided no guidance whatsoever. There was one bartender Ricardo, who took over an hour to prepare cocktails and showed no sense of urgency or care. The dramatic cocktail descriptions sounded impressive, but the drinks did not match the descriptions at all. Because of the delays, we were never even able to properly toast or celebrate our friend. The charcuterie board took forever and arrived with an absurd amount of cheese and only six pieces of bread. To make things worse, part of the food we ordered never arrived at all. The live jazz band advertised and promised never showed up. When asked, the staff responded with: "I don't know, they were supposed to be here. I don't have their phone number." That level of disorganization is unacceptable. At the end of the night, we were shocked to receive a check close to $600 for two tables, despite each person only having one cocktail and shared food. The bartender, Ricardo, approached us and said: "Well, sorry, we really tried tonight! It wasn't the best, but we tried." Honestly, that comment made the experience even more frustrating. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if they hadn't "tried."That statement perfectly summarizes the problem -- trying is not enough when everything fails. I would not recommend this place for a speakeasy experience. This is not a speakeasy. It's a poorly run bar hiding behind a concept it does not deliver. Do not recommend.

I realize Kinobi can be hard to find at times but If there's a substitution like that, the server should say something when you order the drink or if it's a recipe change, the menu should be updated. Speaking of service, that's what really brought me to write this re view. Before we even ordered we were told that we would only have 90 minutes. That honestly killed the vibe and made us feel rushed. Like the OpenTable confirmation even said we'd have two hours. And for tge rest of our time there our server pretty much ignored us. I think they need to hire another person to be a server or maybe get an extra bartender and have them wait on the people at the bar. At a bar like this service is everything. Being a Japanese themed bar you'd think they would try to copy the level of service you'd have in Japan. I just moved to the neighborhood and probably won't return after our experience.

Definitely worth it! The vibes are unmatched. It's a unique blend of "top notch cocktail crafting" and "beer and a hot pretzel after work." You can dress up, you can dress down, it's very 'just be yourself' which I love. I've literally had caviar AND hot dogs there in the same night at an event. They know how to blend high/low. Incredible knowledge and ingredients but not snooty patootie. Super inclusive and fun, with cool popups and events happening all the time. It's a full bar so you can get any cocktail you would normally order if you're keeping it simple, or beer, wine, boilermakers, etc. There's a span of offerings and price points, so something for everyone. (Also really good N/A cocktails!) The menu is super inventive and creative! And the cocktail menu changes out every so often so there are new things to try. This area is vintage vibes and Baby Gee speaks it fluently. Really cool decor, curated by the owners who design everything from the playlist to the cocktails to the invention of never-before-seen flavors and shapes of jello shots. Try the Baby Gee appletini while you're there. Mezcal, tequila, sake appletini you ask?? Yes. Trust. And get a hot dog. Do it.

He was kind, polite, and carried himself with such warmth -- and yes, those curls were beautiful. He set the tone for the entire experience. Demetrius seated us, and our server Joe took great care of us. For starters, we ordered the wedge salad and the meatballs. Both were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. For our entrées, we had the grilled salmon with bok choy and mashed potatoes, and the steak sandwich with French fries. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The ambience was wonderful. They have a full bar, and you can watch the chefs prepare dishes right from your table, which adds to the experience. I also appreciated seeing the general manager actively running food and engaging with guests -- leadership like that shows. Another thing that stood out was how clean and organized the restaurant stayed. The moment a table was vacated, it was cleared and reset within minutes. Everything looked spotless. There's so much on the menu that I want to come back and try. I highly recommend this place. And last but definitely not least -- thank you, Demetrius, for noticing my parking time had expired and getting me that extra 15 minutes. You saved me a ticket. You're a true gem. I'll be back to Saint & Second very soon.

The Bake Mac & Cheese is a must-order--the crunchy topping is easily the best part and gives it such a great texture. We also tried the Grilled Provoleta. It's a seared provolone with portobello mushrooms and pickled peppers; it doesn't have a typical "cheese pull," but the flavors are incredible and it feels surprisingly light for a cheese dish. The 1st-floor outdoor patio is super comfortable and dog-friendly, making it the perfect spot to relax. Highly recommend if you're in Long Beach with your pup! One visit we waited over 40 minutes without being acknowledged, another time our order came out wrong, and another time the food arrived cold like it had been sitting for quite a while. Because of that, I honestly did not want to come back tonight. But I was craving a good steak, and after my husband suggested giving 908 another try, I reluctantly agreed. I noticed the filet mignon on the menu paired with broccolini and decided to go for it. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt completely different. The hostess was warm and welcoming and seated us immediately. A young man came over right away with waters and took our drink order, which already surprised us in the best way. Then Alex S came to our table, and he truly made the night exceptional. He was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful in making sure my order was exactly how I wanted it. I mentioned that I didn't want a large piece of butter melting over the steak, and he happily accommodated that request. He even checked on the exact ounce size of the filet for me, which I appreciated. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, and honestly, they were the best Brussels sprouts we've ever had. Perfectly cooked, not drowning in sauce, and absolutely packed with flavor. My 8 oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The broccolini was crisp, fresh, and not overly oily. Everything tasted thoughtful, balanced, and worth every dollar. Most importantly, Alex S delivered spectacular service from start to finish. We were genuinely shocked to learn this was his first night shift because he handled the dining room with professionalism, warmth, and confidence far beyond what we expected. Thank you, Alex S, for completely changing our impression of 908. Tonight's experience was excellent, and for the first time, we are actually excited to come back. Thanks again, Jed Dornoff

1 Star - Worst Experience I've Ever Had at a Bar…read more I've been to The Blind Donkey in downtown Long Beach before but what happened last night deserves to be shared. I came here with a friend last night and ordered a blonde beer that tasted completely off -- it genuinely tasted like blue cheese. My friend encouraged me to ask for a replacement since something was clearly wrong with it. When she brought it to the bar, the bartender told her he'd replace it and that it was on the house, but then made her pay for the second drink anyway. If I had known she'd still be charged, I would've just not asked for another drink. When I came up to the bar to clarify why she paid for something he said was comped, the bartender backtracked and said he "didn't mean" that. I asked if they could void the second charge, since this was supposed to be a simple replacement. He kept explaining that he is charging us for this second one because it was not a blonde, it was a white ale. I told him that's fine, but why did he say it was "on the house" and now charging us anyway? He ended up bringing over the manager. The manager was a short, Latino man with a hat on. He was incredibly rude from the moment he arrived explaining the beer was a blonde- which I know what I ordered, but tasted whack. He didn't look at us, didn't listen to anything we were saying, and without asking a single question he grabbed both drinks we paid for and dumped them down the drain. We were stunned -- we paid for both of them and now had nothing. When he came back, I calmly told him we paid for both drinks he just threw out. His response? "Don't expect to come here and get free drinks." Which is wild considering we never asked for anything free -- we were just trying to get the mistaken charge fixed. When I told him he needed to void the drink he dumped, he called security on us. We weren't loud, drunk, or confrontational. Security refused to give us the manager's name, and only one finally whispered "Ken," though at that point it felt like they were just saying anything to get us out the door. I've worked in customer-facing roles before. I understand dive bars aren't known for luxury service, but this wasn't about service -- it was about basic respect, integrity, and not charging customers for drinks you throw away yourself. I'm leaving this review as a Long Beach local, it's saddening to see how a popular bar like The Blind Donkey treats their customers. This was the worst experience I've ever had.
