I had a group of 13 for my 40th bday celebration and we all had amazing help from Jasmine & Nancy at the bar, Kiana & Elliott at our table, as well as the other servers who helped bring out loads of food. We were really excited to finally try this spot out, but alas, it was a such a mediocre experience. In fact, we went twice just to see if maybe the first time was a fluke, but it was not. Service = 1/10 Yes, they greeted us when we entered the restaurant, but after guiding us to our table and taking our order, service was non-existent. The first time, our server rarely came by to check on us. Our waters were never refilled, and when we tried to get someone's attention, they just smiled and ignored us. The second time really cut the cake. The server forgot half of our orders, we had to remind them twice. Then when the server came with one of our orders of steamed rice, he walked back and forth unsure if he should put it down or not. THEN, when we tried to get their attention by waving them down (literally) they had the audacity to WAVE back and not come to the table. Who the heck does that??? I was not waving to say, "Hi"! It was just terrible, and they were clueless. To top it off, there were only 2 groups eating in the restaurant, us and another group of 4. Food = 7/10 As sad as service was, I did enjoy the food for the most part. Their Hamachi crudo was delish, as well as their chicken wings (but you only get 3??). Their wagyu meats were just okay. I expected better flavor profile. They give you a butter to eat with it, but it had zero flavor/seasoning. The garlic noodles were okay, just a bit on the dry side. For the amount you are paying, we expected so much more. To be honest, Gyu Kaku would have been a better choice, at least for the Japanese BBQ part. Unfortunately, I see why there aren't more people eating at this spot. I can't say we will be back, at least not until they get their service and menu up to par. read more

I dined here for dinner last Wednesday with some friends and was a little taken aback by the upscale ambiance of this restaurant. We had originally planned to eat here after checking out the online menu but upon arrival, we learned that it was incorrect and we had actually been looking at the menu for their Redlands location which is quite different. Since they recently opened, the menu update hadn't been made yet. A bit of a curveball but we ultimately rolled with it. After some deliberation, I opted for the Soso Guud Sushi Course Offering, which featured an assortment of incredibly fresh fish and reminded me of the concept at Sugarfish. The tuna sashimi was a clear favorite (I'm a big tuna fan) and the Toro hand roll was a real treat! The albacore, salmon, hamachi, and sea bream were all really fresh and top-tier. The course ended with a crab hand roll, which was good but I wish it had been a little moister, perhaps blue crab would have been better. Beyond the sushi, we also explored the Japanese BBQ side of the menu which could have been a fun and interactive experience although it looked like you needed to order two plates in order to do the bbq. The quality of the meats looked excellent as I spotted the chef cutting some of the meat as we were leaving. I bet the wagyu cuts were really tender!! It's pretty cool Sosogu is a spot where you can enjoy both high-quality sushi and grilled meats in one meal - definitely is a unique touch. Service-wise, Melany was decent and a yet phenomenal up-seller...Overall, I'd dine here again, but with new expectations now that I know what to expect from their actual menu. Located off Worsham Ave in Long Beach. It's located outside of the Hanger at the Long Beach Exchange in Long Beach. It's a nice restaurant good amount of seating. They have tables with the grill for the BBQ it's not an AYCE place. The server was awesome and service was pretty quick. I got the garlic noodles and a blue crab hand roll sushi both were good. They also have happy hour as well. Overall a nice spot for sushi and Japanese BBQ I'll have to come back again. read more

Came here for the first time on a Wednesday night for dinner to celebrate my little sister's birthday. Her husband made a 7pm reservation for 9 people and we were seated right away--no wait, since we were the first 3 to arrive before the rest of the party. The restaurant itself was cute and not too busy. Our server Annie was kind, but I noticed other servers seemed a bit more on top of things, which was really great they all worked together. We ordered the Soso Sumo Sushi Coursings, the Sashimi Set, and two orders of the Premium Wagyu Beef that fed 4 people. There were a lot of dishes brought to the table, and honestly, it got a little confusing. We weren't really sure which dish belonged to which course, and it felt a bit overwhelming, but that is just me. I wish everything had been brought out together like the sashimi plate. About the sashimi--it looked like most of it had been frozen, and the texture was off. The only standout for me was the salmon with caviar, which looked really fresh and melted in my mouth. I didn't even get to try any of the hand rolls or other sushi dishes but my husband liked the Toro nigiri and scallop nigiri. I also tried the Haku Espresso Martini and the Green Geisha--both drinks looked great, but tasted a little watered down with little to no kick. I love espresso martinis and this did not do it for me. It was kind of sad because I literally had 4 sips and it was all gone. I'm used to those martini glasses filled to the rim. Overall, it was a fun night with good company! I might come back and give it another try over the weekend vs. weekday- the vibe was not vibing for me. I've been wanting to try this place and finally got to try it over the weekend. It's located next to the LBX hangar so parking was a bit tricky. There was no wait when we came and we were able to get seated right away. We ordered the premier set for two and it was around $56 per person. We were pretty skeptical but the set came with a lot of food. Really enjoyed the sides it came with, especially the salad and tofu. Good portions of meat and it was all fresh. Overall, it wasn't bad but we prefer KBBQ instead since we like bonchon and marinated meats. Will come again to try their sushi and other things off the menu! read more

Wifey and I decided to check out Sosogu for dinner. We arrived on Friday night around 5:30pm and there wasn't much of a crowd and very little wait, good news for us! We did make reservations ahead of time but we wouldn't have needed it that night. The space is much bigger than I thought it was going to be with plenty of booths and long tables for larger groups. Many of the tables had grills embedded in them if you happen to choose to Japanese bbq. With a bit of a time crunch, we decided to stick with mostly sushi dishes. We did arrive in time for happy hour (M-F 3-6pm) so we ordered a few things off the HH and the regular menu: * Sosoguud roll * Blue crab cut roll * Hamachi crudo * Nagoya wings: Twice fried Jidori chicken wings with a light glaze * Pork belly bao (2pc) Our favorite was the Nagoya wings and we did overhear other tables also ordering it so it must be pretty popular. If they could make the pork belly pieces in the bao more tender, that would probably be my favorite. The sosoguud roll had a good amount and size of push pieces so not skimpy at all. I would probably opt for Japanese bbq on the next visit and stick with my local sushi joints if I'm feeling like sushi. With that said, it is nice to have the option of sushi alongside your bbq. read more

I didn't really know what to expect going in, but overall it was a cool experience. For the amount of food you get, it did feel a little on the pricey side, though the butters definitely helped elevate the flavors. This is a nice modern restaurant located just north of the Hangar food hall. If you have a party where some like sushi/sashimi and others prefer meat, then this is a good option. We stopped by a little later on a Saturday night (around 8:30 pm) and it wasn't too crowded and got seated right away. Ambience and service was good. As for the food, there was some good and not so good, thus the 3 stars. Japanese BBQ: Boneless Short Rib was really good. Tender and good flaor Beef Tongue. Disappointing. The slices were so thin and once you cook them, they stuck to the grill and definitely not worth it. Wagyu flat iron steak. Disappointing. I don't think this was very fresh that day. It was tough and definitely not wagyu grade. Beef Tataki: Disappointing. Can't really describe why....just not at par with other places. SOSO GUUD sushi coursing was okay. The sea bream had bones in it. When we mentioned it to the server, she brought back a second piece which also had bones in it. Sashimi set was good...not blow your mind away but not bad. Not sure if it's a place that I'd go out of my way to visit again but if I'm in the area, it's a decent option and maybe I'll give it another shot. read more

Firstly, i want to state that i emailed multiple different emails and got zero responses, so unfortunately im resorting to leaving a yelp review. Went in on a friday night, was told it would be a 45 minute wait, sure no problem, we went down the way, had a drink and came back, and waited an extra 5 minutes to be sat upon being sat, all the tables around continued to get service, and attention, no one even said hi to us, or even acknowledged that we had sat down. after waiting for 20-25 minutes and being completely ignored we finally decided it was time to leave, as we werent going to be served or even attended to. as much as we wanted to try this, this lack of attention, without anyone even saying as little of "hi we'll be with you guys shortly" or "hey we're a little short staffed but someone will be by soon" made our group walk out. i would probably try it again but id be afraid of wasting over an hour just to be ignored again. read more

This is such a great dog friendly spot! The patio had a super chill vibe and the service here was fantastic (s/o to our server, Zed)! To start, I ordered the white peach sake sangria. It was refreshing and sweet- perfect for hot weather! For food, we decided to mix things up and try both the sushi and bbq. We chose to order the So Lite sushi coursing so we could try a few things without "breaking the bank." We loved the Tuna Sashimi and Toro Handroll as the fish cuts were high quality! For bbq, we ordered the short rib, wagyu brisket, and wagyu hanger steak. My favorite BY FAR was the hanger steak as it was super tender and flavorful. Wonderful new restaurant in the Hangar. You can get sushi and bbq. And the drinks are really good too. Our server was great! I really like the layout of this restaurant. Outside it looks like containers and inside is a big bar and lots of seating. The BBQ sets are filling and delicious. We also got two sushi sets. The yuzu cheesecake was really good. I have gone here once before when I took my family for the Yelp event awhile back and we loved the ambiance and food in general. This time I had made a reservation online several weeks in advance for a party of 6 for my little sister's birthday. I also spoke to David over the phone closer to the date to check in on our reservation, so thank you David for accommodating us. We had the AYCE brunch option which was $48 per person. Keep in mind however that unfortunately they no longer do this special, which is a bummer because we actually enjoyed it! Food overall was yummy and certainly of great quality. We got to eat various meats such as beef short rib, wagyu, and filet mignon just to name a few of our favorites. There were also a variety of apps and sushi options to choose from. Bottomless mimosas and soft drinks were also included. To top it off, there was the yuzu cheesecake (so delicious and not overly sweet) plus green tea ice cream. Although there were times that it took awhile for things to get to us/order, it was understandable given that it was a weekend and there was only one main waitress and one other person helping run the food. Going to give them 5 because I want to see them make it! It's a really great looking menu that excites... and the fish was all super fresh. Everything tasty. Constructive feedback: - It's just not quite there in terms of execution. When you order black miso cod ($19) and the yellowtail sashimi with ponzu/serrano ($21 I believe), you're always going to compare these dishes to the Nobu's of the world, that helped make these iconic dishes famous. Nobu costs an absolute fortune, but the quality and execution is on another level to this. Attention to detail. Refinement. Our black miso cod was a tiny bit over. The serranos were sliced thick and inconsistently. They should be paper thin to not totally overpower the tuna. Little things that add up. Still tasty, just could use a little more refinement in execution. - They've got work to do to improve the consistency of their rice. Would recommend the chef goes and checks out how Sugarfish, KazuNori etc. are doing their rice. It's sooo good. - The lighting and vibe in there was a little weird for me. The booths could use softer ambient lights for example. Just my humble opinion, but some may disagree! - Service was really good. Jasmine was our server. - Yuzu cheesecake was DELICIOUS. We also ordered the miso black cod and the Hokkaido sushi set. The cod was delicious. The sushi set was fresh and good value. I stopped by Sosogu for lunch and had such a great experience! The atmosphere is clean, calm, and inviting--perfect for a midday sushi break. The sushi itself was super fresh and beautifully presented--every bite tasted like it was made with care. My server, Kayanna, was wonderful! She was friendly, attentive, and really on top of things without ever feeling intrusive. My tea never went empty, and she made sure everything came out just right. Lunch for 3 people: two orders or street corn, 3 avocado rolls, a side of edamame, and 3 soft drinks - $96 Location is nice looking and service was attentive. Came for an early birthday dinner with my husband and friend. Restaurant is clean and spacious, with a low sushi bar and a bar with high top chairs. There is also an outdoor patio. The service was great, Jeremy especially! Attentive, quick and friendly. He was bartending and serving at the same time but we never felt neglected as far as service. He also makes fantastic cocktails! This is the reason we will be back. I've eaten at a million Japanese barbecue restaurants, here and in Japan, and I had high hopes for this. It's unfortunate that the food quality just wasn't there in my opinion, because it's so close to my house and one of my favorite things to eat. Much of it was lacking either in freshness, flavor or salt. We ordered a ton of food, from both steak and sushi menus, bill was about $387 (we had two drinks each). I just don't feel the quality was there for the price. We've happily spent that much at our favorite Japanese BBQ spot, but with a higher volume of food and much higher quality and authenticity. My friend and I ordered the lychee pear martini. We thought the cocktail was strong and refreshing and my other friend ordered the cucumber mint martini and thought it was also tasty. For small bites, we ordered the crab cakes, hamachi crudo, and the Wagyu bao, all were delicious with good portions. We ordered the premier set for two which is $56 per person which is a great deal since there were 3 of us and the portions were also generous. For dessert, we ordered the brick toast. The rounds were not served promptly, and we placed immediate orders due to the timing it took to receive anything. Given that the restaurant was not particularly busy, the service was slow. This is noted by other reviews as well. Further, we had to ask for the same things a few times and things we ordered never arrived. We only showed our frustration after the manager's approach, despite the slow service. Regarding pricing, we had questions at the time and were simply seeking clarification then, not after the fact. Stopped by here for a Sunday lunch not realizing they offer "AYCE" for $48/person. They offer variety of items during this time and tbh, there's some good, some mid, and some don't recommend. The meats are decent quality. No complaints. The Japanese street corn, HIGHLY recommend. Albacore nigiri was the freshest. No on the "crispy tofu", it's slimey. The buns are probably just as bad. Its just... too vinegary with small piece of pork with no flavor(why so little meat? Idk.. they're ayce...). The waitress herself was great. She was nice. Although she seemed really new. This is where a 4 star (definitely not 5) goes from 4 to 3. Considering this is AYCE with 90 min time limit, our service stopped as soon as the restaurant started getting a little more folks. I repeat, NOT busy but just a little more people. There was a good 10 to 15 min break in the middle of our meal where we got no food. I mean thank God it was middle of our meal vs when we were hangry. Other than that. Restaurant is clean. Modern. It was Thursday night and we sat at the bar. We ordered the Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio (delicious) and the Soso Guud set (also delicious). To drink we had 2 drinks each and the sake flight. Drinks ordered: Yuzu Pineapple Express, Dragon Fruit Highball, Rising Sun, and for my 2nd drink I asked the bartender to surprise me with any mezcal drink. He understood his assignment. We went there a few weeks ago and I hate that I didn't get to leave this review sooner, but shout out to the bar manager (insert name) and also our bartender (I'm so sorry since I waited too long but I believe it was Jeremy? We went in for sushi, but noticed the selection is very limited, so we switched to J-BBQ instead.
