I would have to say it wasn't my cup of tea. I like curry and I dont mind it spicy but this curry was too spicy. So spicy I could barely taste the curry. I ate some but I didn't finish it all. The fries were probably the best thing. Service was fairly quick.

It's hard to find good curry in LB so I'm glad this spot moved over to this side! I think they'll get a lot of business from the daily work crowds :) The chicken katsu curry was flavorful and the chicken was moist with a good texture (no woody or dry chicken). I would've liked to see more veggies in the curry. The portions are a decent size which is nice since it's about $18, and I even had a bit leftover for the next day. Overall, a solid spot in the Hangar and I'm excited to try their other food offerings!

New location but same delicious food. The Katsu Chicken Curry with chicken thigh was delicious. The curry was extremely flavorful, the chicken was perfectly crispy, not dried out at all and the rice was perfectly cooked. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we went in after the lunch hour rush. Service was friendly.

Brand new addition to the Hangar! I've been craving menchi katsu Japanese curry since Curry House closed in 2020. I'm so glad they offer this since it really does scratch the itch! The curry was flavorful and had a nice building heat. The menchi was cooked perfectly with flakey batter. The service was fast and friendly! Looking forward to making this a regular spot!

Located inside the the hangar food hall in Long Beach, if you want to get your curry fix definitely check out Tanuki. Service was quick. Ambiance casual like a food court. Curry came out hot with good texture. I ordered the chicken katsu curry and the chicken was tender inside and crispy outside. Well made no regrets. Will come back.

The lightly torched skin gives each bite a nice, firm textural contrast against the delicate, tender meat. The yuzu garnish puts it over the top! My other favorites are Striped Jack and Hokkaido Scallop. My friend, who doesn't really like eating fish, loves their Double S Roll (tempura shrimp & fried scallops.) The service has been mostly wonderful. We did run into one hiccup when we found some hard, jagged black chunks in the Double S Roll that we couldn't eat. They looked and felt like metal or charred debris, but the staff insisted they were black sesame seeds. Otherwise, the staff has been upbeat and super friendly. If you're looking for your next unforgettable bite, do yourself a favor and order the Golden Eye Snapper!

The hand roll was elegant, fresh, and delicious. I loved the seaweed. The Spicy Scallop was my favorite because of the quality ingredients and value. It was definitely spicy. The TNT Roll was amazing, but I had to remove the Jalapeño due to it kicking my ass. I'll definitely return because I had an exciting experience.

Here you can actually taste the ingredients they describe and somehow work really well together. And it's not just one or two drinks that feel unique and interesting it's basically their whole menu. Most recent time we went was when they had a guest bartender (Polo Chang). Some of the best cocktails I've had recently. I'm a huge fan of tea in cocktail his menu was amazing. We got way more drinks than we usually do that night because each one was better than the last. Only thing tho I really wish they kept their old menu. The drawings were beautiful and it had so much character while very easily communicating how each drink will look and taste. It went so well with the overall vibe of the place. I honestly would come here wayyyy more often if it wasn't for the very limited parking. Even with reservation it feels like never a guarantee we will make it there because we may or may not be able to find parking. If you are lucky to be nearby highly recommend uber.

I was able to make a late dinner reservation for Saturday night about a week prior - reservations are definitely encouraged, as the bar was full the entire time we were there. Gaining access to the speakeasy was actually not that difficult, just ring the doorbell of the ornate floral door, beneath the lone lantern in the alley behind El Barrio Cantina. Parking though was a nightmare. I only realized when paying the bill that the two establishments are one and the same, and I could have very likely parked in the designated spots for El Barrio customers. The whole bar is a mood - lighting is dim and you don't get to see much beyond your table, which is good for those seeking privacy. One thing to note is that because the dining space is so small and intimate, it does get quite loud. The appetizers we tried were all good, with izakaya flare as promised. The charred edamame was extremely addicting, smothered in garlic soy and just the right amount of spicy from chili arbor. The Okonomi corn dog was a clever spin on okonomiyaki, bonito flakes and all. Finally, both the Yuzu and Wagyu rolls were fresh and perfect size bites of their respective fishes. I wish I could have sampled their entire cocktail menu! All the drinks sounded novel and unique, and featured their specially cut crystal clear ice. My Yuzu Strawberry blended the smokiness of the mezcal with the tangy sweetness from yuzu and strawberry perfectly. And the Peated Highball I ordered as my nightcap has to be my new favorite drink, adding a boldness to the Japanese cocktail staple. Only reason I took a star off my review was the abrupt service. Our waitress was not subtle about needing our table for the next reservation, asking to clear our plates when there was still food on it, and closing our check early to the point that the bartender had to come and charge us again for our last drink. Despite that, still stronly suggest checking out Tokyo Noir. Long Beach sadly doesn't have many speakeasies, but the ones that are here are at the top of their game.

My boyfriend's brother did the ordering since he's been here a lot. He ordered: Peruvian Cebiche: which was the catch of the day, tiger milk, ahi Amarillo, concha, and sweet potato. It was so delicious! I believe the catch of the day was either scallop or white fish which was in the tiger milk and ahi Amarillo sauce which was a sour like sauce which pairs well with the fish. It was also a great dipping sauce for the other sushi we got. If I could, I would have slurped the whole thing (the sauce) lol. Blue Fin Sashimi: with kizami wasabi and special soy sauce. If you have tried blue fin you are missing out. The sashimi just melts in your mouth and has such an easy chew to it. Sushi Nikkei Tasting (8 pc sushi): consists of 2 pcs of sweet salmon (parrillera sauce), tuna power (parrillera sauce, aji Amarillo, and chalaquita), Parmesan scallops, and Asian shiromi (white fish, Asian sauce, quinoa pop, and lemon). My boyfriend and I had 1 pc each. The salmon and Parmesan scallops were my favorite. My boyfriend's favorite was the Asian shiromi and tuna power. All the toppings complimented each other so well. Who knew?! Acebichado: which was a specialty roll with crispy shrimp, avocado topped with tuna, acebicado sauce, togarashi, and green onion Dusty roll: which was another specialty roll with crispy shrimp, avocado topped with octopus in ninja sauce, Parmesan, and tare OBA roll: which was another specialty roll that had crispy salmon, avocado topped with salmon , parrillera, jalapeno sauce, and chalaquita All the rolls were good and the different sauces complimented each other and the fish. We got there when it was lunch time so it wasn't too busy or too loud. The service was great as the servers always checked up on us. Definitely a must try and we'll be coming back to try the other menu items!

Was disappointed in the service at first since we have 5 people including my 1 1/2 year old son. Host said he only had a table for 4 which I figured was fine with a high chair When I asked the server for the high chair the host ran over saying we could not have it because it was in the way of the server. There was another table on the other end that wasn't in the "walkway" and host said it's reserved even though it was still only for 4. Wasn't extremely busy so got frustrated with this response as at first there was no solution provided. About 1-2 minutes later they offered to combine a third table to "reroute" the server path and we were able to eat with my child. Server and rest of staff were great and turned the experience around. Food was delicious including octopus fire, bluefin tuna tasting , Ginza Maki roll , Bixby Roll and the Acebichado. We were so hungry we didn't get to take a picture but that alone should tell you how good it was.

Unfortunately, we were placed at a small corner table where several mosquitoes were flying around, and both of us were bitten multiple times during our meal. We originally ordered the butter scallops and the hamachi kama (yellowtail collar), but were told they were sold out, so we had to order something else instead. The food quality was good, and the appetizers came out promptly. However, my chicken teriyaki never arrived while we were eating. After we had finished our meal, I flagged down another waitress to cancel the order and ask for the check. A few minutes later, I noticed my chicken teriyaki had been delivered to the wrong table before it was eventually brought to ours. The biggest issue was the service. Our original waitress never checked on us, asked how everything was, or offered drink refills. I had to flag down another waitress for drink refills, and she was the only one who was attentive. I still left a tip because of the other waitress who helped us, but overall the poor service overshadowed the good food. Sadly, I won't be coming back.
