I consider CoCo Ichibanya as fast food curry because that is what it is in Japan. Its not mind blowing curry but solid and consistent. We arrived as a party of 3 on a busy Friday evening and waited about 20 minutes to be seated. After our order it took about 15 more minutes for our food to arrive. I found the mango and peach lassi to be just okay. It tasted too artificial for me. We got 1 omelette beef curry and 2 omelette katsu curry. Got level 6 spice which had a good kick (I am a spice lover) Again overall very solid. Service not the most attentive but they had their hands full with the long wait and incoming take out orders.

I'm genuinely fond of this place. It's simple, unpretentious, and refreshingly without frills. OMLETTE PORK KATSU is like a comfort food of white rice, curry, and protein. We also ordered the CHEESE COVERED NAAN and another humble dish that practically cried, "I could make this at home." Neither was fancy, but both were satisfyingly filling. What this spot proves, though, is that even the most unassuming plate demands a hidden craft. The silky, blended omelet gently draped over the rice was a quiet triumph, and the katsu pork struck that perfect balance--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. I ordered the curry at medium spice, but honestly, I think I could easily bump it up a level or two next time. They also offer a rewards program for regulars, which is a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, the distance makes it hard for me to visit as often as I'd like.

CoCo Ichibanya is hands down my favorite Japanese curry spot, and honestly, no one does it better for me. The curry here is rich, comforting, and incredibly customizable, which is exactly what makes it so addictive. I love my curry a little on the spicy side, and the level 2 or 3 plus spiciness is absolutely perfect. It has a great kick without overpowering the flavor of the curry itself. I truly do not understand how anyone even attempts a level 10, but more power to them. The food is consistently amazing across the board. From the wide variety of protein choices to all the add ons you can customize your plate with, everything tastes fresh and satisfying. It feels like you can come back again and again and never get bored because there are so many combinations to try. If you love Japanese curry, this place is a must. Comfort food at its best, done exactly the way you want it. My only wish is for them to expand a store to Diamond bar or nearby there

We tried this place in Japan and so glad they opened some here in LA, though wish they expanded to SGV. Curry is on point every time. They do not mess around with the spice level. The highest I ever got was a 6 and it packs a good heat. The spice level goes higher than that for the adventurous folks. Menu is easy, a lot of customizable options. I usually get the chicken katsu or the omelette chicken katsu, and always add the potato croquette. Katsu is good, not very oily. Pretty good portion sizes, we always have leftover to take home. Service is good, there is a bell at each table you can ring to call the server.

I ordered their chicken cutlet plate and level 2 spice, where I could comfortably enjoy my plate, and still get a little kick of spice.

Pretty filling but a little more curry would have been appreciated. Reasonably priced.

Had my daughter pick up takeout from Coco tonight. Ordered the tonkatsu curry with omelette. Curry is a bit spicy but not overly so. Portion was very reasonable for the price. Cutlet was a little dry but acceptable overall. I felt they could provide a little more curry for the amount of rice that comes with this dinner. A good choice to pick up a quick dinner to bring home when you don't feel like going out for dinner.

Review #898 2025-071 Food Order: Thin Slice Beef Curry $13.39 Chicken Cutlet Curry $14.44 Dumplings Salad $7.05 Opened in 02/2011, CoCo Ichibanya, in Torrance Star Plaza on the southeast side, is the 1st U.S. location. The restaurant specializes in Japanese-style curry rice. Its closest competition was Curry House, which closed a few years ago. There's a 3 step ordering process: 1) select rice quantity; 2) select spice level (from 1 - 10); 3) select add-ons & toppings. There's a surcharge for extra rice, higher spice levels (20¢ - $1.00), add-ons & toppings ($1.00 - $7.75), & a 50¢ deduction for small bowl of rice. I started dining here (takeout) when my work offered 3xTs (Thursday Takeout Treats). I usually order Thin Slice Beef Curry with an 8 spice level & may add a side of Dumplings Salad to share with my manager; my other preferred order is the Chicken Cutlet Curry. There's a balanced serving of rice (medium) & curry, but the portion of beef is smaller than I would like; I get more with chicken cutlet. The beef is perfectly cooked & tender; the chicken cutlet is perfectly fried, crisp crust & tender chicken. The curry tastes umami, savory, & sweet, with a good kick of heat at spice level 8. It's just enough to almost break out a sweat. Hehehe... The Dumplings Salad consists of dumplings, romaine with some corn & shredded carrots. I would prefer some cucumbers & tomatoes for this "salad." I'm not a fan of the dumplings' skin; it's a bit thick & not always properly pan fried. I like that bottom crust & the softer skin contrast. Sometimes the salad isn't fresh or appears fresh; the lettuce is wilted &/or reddish brown (occurs from oxidation, which that happens when the leaves are bruised, cut, or exposed to air & moisture), unsightly but edible. There's a decent amount of parking available, but less spaces on the southeast side. The dining room has plenty of 2-/4-seat tables & moveable to combine them to a larger table with counter seating opposite of the entry. A map on the wall shows their locations, including their 01/2013 claim to fame in the Guinness World Records as the biggest curry chain in the world. They accept Visa & MC, but not AmEx. Their menu is surprisingly extensive for a curry restaurant, price points are fair for a decent portion, though sometimes the proteins are on the skimpier side. This can be made up by adding a side or two. If you're looking for delish & customizable curry, look no further than Coco Ichibanya.

Been wanting to try this place since it arrived in the US! Although there's not much to expect with Japanese curry (they all taste the same...) I did enjoy picking my level of spice and the amount of variety they carried. I got their og chicken cutlet curry (lvl3-sirarcha chilly spice level) and it was just as I expected. Nothing special but will get the cravings satisfied. Chicken was nicely crisp, and the curry was a lil more watery than how I would normally like it but the flavor was there. Boyfriend ended up getting a regular spice pork omelette cutlet and did enjoy the flavors as well. Regular spice is good for people who have a low tolerance while level 3-4 is more of a kick. Try 5 if you're into spice! Parking is located in a small plaza w/plenty of spaces available. Upon entering you seat yourself and the workers will tend to you afterwards. Food came out pretty quick and everything tasted as you would expect but all in all, I would come if it was convenient but wouldn't make my way to come here.

Love this curry place! I recommend it!!

I love coming here for their Chicken Cutlet curry! I love that we can choose how spicy we want the curry. The chicken is always hot and crispy. The curry is always hot and spicy to my liking. It's a bit loud with all the chatter. Today, our server, Zaius, was super friendly, patient and helpful. He was a very pleasant server

I recently visited CoCoICHIBANYA and had a great experience from start to finish. I ordered the pork katsu curry with cheese, along with a side of natto and a Calpico, and everything was delicious. The curry was rich and flavorful, the pork katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the melted cheese added an extra layer of comfort and indulgence. The natto was a nice addition for something a little different, and the Calpico was refreshing and balanced out the meal well. The atmosphere was bright and welcoming, making it a comfortable place to sit and enjoy your food. The service was fast and friendly, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Overall, it's a great spot for Japanese curry, and I will definitely be returning.

Even on a late Saturday night, it was pretty packed and bustling in here. Went for a chicken cutlet curry with added spinach. Upgraded to a large portion of rice (didn't finish) and went for a level 4 spice which definitely packed a punch. I am a fan of that huge range of spice levels (1-10) and the curry was very flavorful. Note: they don't take American Express here

3.5 stars. CoCo Ichibanya is one of the largest curry chains in Japan. I personally prefer Go Go Curry's more but here in CA, there are more CoCo Ichibanya locations. The curry is solid but not amazing. Good for a quick takeout meal but does not really impress.

After we placed our order, the owner seemed frustrated and a bit grouchy. I'm still not entirely sure what went wrong since our credit card went through and we even received a receipt. In the end, he had to cancel the entire order and redo it on the left iPad because, for some reason, the order never showed up on his system. After sorting everything out, we waited another 15 minutes for our food. We ended up taking our order to go since the restaurant is very small, with only one table outside. But tbh, It was absolutely delicious. I think this might be the best Japanese curry we've ever had, even better than the old Curry House days (RIP). You can customize your bowl by choosing the rice size, white or brown rice, and up to three toppings. We added an omelet egg, chicken karaage, and pork cutlet, and everything was fantastic. I ordered the mild curry, which was the perfect spice level for me, while my husband got medium and really enjoyed the extra heat. I like how they give you a big tub of curry sauce no matter which rice bowl size you choose. We'll definitely be back and remember to use the left iPad when ordering.

Today we decided to revisit the restaurant for old time's sake. Inside, the main wall was repainted with a new mural. The annual LA Marathon posters, pinned by the staff who participated in the events, were also gone. Nonetheless, it retained its traditional izakaya décor with its counter seating alongside some regular tables. The staff were all new but still very courteous and brought the menu and water right away. New items were added but the core dishes remained the same. For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. To complement the set, the gyozas with their delicate wraps had nicely burnt bottoms, and flavorful fillings. Champon Ramen: A complex ramen with an assortment of meat, veggies and seafood. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. The noodles had a very nice texture and were a tad al dente. We were amazed that after all these years, the restaurant retained its original taste and flavor. We found out the reason why while exiting the restaurant: The young cook from two decades ago is now running the open kitchen as head chef. Great food and still reasonable prices. It was totally worth revisiting.
