This place is a classic and you can never really go wrong with it! While the curry isn't necessarily the best you'll try, it is really solid! The curry sauce is the perfect consistency; not too watery, and not too thick. They have so many different types of curry, you'll just have to keep coming back to try them all! You can also customize pretty much everything, so you add or subtract items to your dish if you have certain preferences. I got seated pretty quick, but the food did take like 15 minutes to come out. But, I did order the large size. And boy, was it LARGE! I'm a big back eater so it was the perfect size for me. The staff is also pretty attentive, but you can always call someone over using the button. The place was nice and busy, but not too crowded. I did come on a Wednesday afternoon though. We arrived as a party of 3 on a busy Friday evening and waited about 20 minutes to be seated. After our order it took about 15 more minutes for our food to arrive. This was a 3 overall but for the food itself, I'd give it a 4. We came as a group of 3 including myself, waited about 20-30 min which wasn't too bad considering the timeline. This place was a 3 overall because the service was honestly nonexistent for us. My friends always had empty water cups. Trying to get their attention doesn't work so I had to stand and go to them. The bell button did absolutely nothing for us. I had to stand and get up to ask for more water, our appetizer was missing, and then the check, which was at some point getting inconvenient. Ambiance is just ok. For the food itself, we all got the chicken curry katsu but different spices levels. I got the same but with cheese and it tasted the same if I had gotten it without cheese; it was not worth the extra pay for the cheese lol. The chicken katsu tasted very fresh and delicious with the rice and curry. But it was a bit disappointing because compared to most places I've been to, the chicken katsu here felt small compared to the portion of the rice and curry given. I love my curry a little on the spicy side, and the level 2 or 3 plus spiciness is absolutely perfect. It has a great kick without overpowering the flavor of the curry itself. I truly do not understand how anyone even attempts a level 10, but more power to them. The food is consistently amazing across the board. We tried this place in Japan and so glad they opened some here in LA, though wish they expanded to SGV. Curry is on point every time. They do not mess around with the spice level. The highest I ever got was a 6 and it packs a good heat. The spice level goes higher than that for the adventurous folks. Menu is easy, a lot of customizable options. My wish has come true! Coco Ichibanya is FINALLY offering any of the Omelet dishes for take out! Story time: During the pandemic, Coco Ichibanya was only doing take out. I was so bummed that I couldn't order the Omelet because they only offered it as a dine-in item. Then on May 14, 2021 (I have this story saved on my IG! Lol), I was finally able to dine in and order the chicken cutlet omelet! It was a beautiful sight! Lol. At least now I have peace of mind that if Coco Ichibanya ever goes back to take out again, I'll be able to order and enjoy the omelet still. But my other go to is the chicken cutlet curry udon and it's also really delicious. There's a 3 step ordering process: 1) select rice quantity; 2) select spice level (from 1 - 10); 3) select add-ons & toppings. There's a surcharge for extra rice, higher spice levels (20¢ - $1.00), add-ons & toppings ($1.00 - $7.75), & a 50¢ deduction for small bowl of rice. I started dining here (takeout) when my work offered 3xTs (Thursday Takeout Treats). I usually order Thin Slice Beef Curry with an 8 spice level & may add a side of Dumplings Salad to share with my manager; my other preferred order is the Chicken Cutlet Curry. Since the closing of Curry House in 2020, this has become our local go-to restaurant for curry. It has grown on us over the years. We eat here pretty nearly every month. Hubby likes the Keema Curry. You can get the Keema Curry Plate which includes rice and buy a side of Nan or the Nan Keema Curry which has no rice but includes the Nan. He also like the Keema Omelet Curry. I get the Beef & Vegetables Curry. We really like their salad. It is a green salad with corn & egg. Their sesame salad dressing is so tasty, too! They bring a squirt bottle of it and you can add the amount that suits you. If you're thirsty, they sell a Jumbo Thai Tea for just $4.49! We usually get one and share it. Service is hit and miss. We've learned to order our food in stages here. When we order everything at once, the main entrée usually arrives seconds after the salad and sometimes before! That's not cool! What a pleasant surprise! Years ago I used to have curry at their competitor that suddenly closed all their locations during the pandemic. Curry has not been on the radar for so many years as I have to be careful with certain spice allergies. Met up here with a group of friends. The dining area is small but, there were eight seats all next to each other facing the kitchen. Just enough for all eight of us! Service was excellent from start to finish. Was greeted by one of the servers and was asked to check in for our party via their QR code. I was able to be seated early as half of our party was present. Most of our party chose a protein or vegetables with curry and rice. I did get to taste the fries with curry and beef that my friend next to me got. Amazing! My chicken cutlets with veggies and mild spice curry was super tasty. Did not have any allergic reaction. Yay! Although I ordered the small size I still had leftovers to take home which the hubby enjoyed the next day. The parking is shared in a strip mall with other businesses and I was able to find a spot. Somebody recommended this place and it looked like a clear winner on a Sunday morning. We were among the first in and seated promptly. The interior is very modern and neat so that was good too. A server came up to us quickly and we ordered - might have been a bit slow to order since first time. Mine was katsu curry and partner's was a bit more complex. Our food was pretty low to arrive with mine being first. My partner's dish came about 20 minutes after mine. The food is good and we weren't being singled out as the table next to us had to wait longer than we did. Their food was so late somebody felt the need to say their next stop was LAX and they were concerned. It seemed a kitchen thing - other tables filled and left before food for the other table arrived. Their menu is quite extensive and has many varieties of curry with various toppings done every which way. All the hallmarks of a Japanese restaurant. You can customize the spice level you want from 1-10. I usually get 5, but I've tried the 10 before and it was seriously and extremely spicy.
